This patch implements a weak function to return the default I/O or memory
window alignment for a P2P bridge. By default, I/O windows are aligned to
4KiB or 1KiB and memory windows are aligned to 4MiB. Some platforms, e.g.,
powernv, have special alignment requirements and can override
pcibios_window_alignment().

Some bridges support I/O windows with 1K alignment, not just the 4K
alignment defined by the PCI spec. For example, see the IOBL_ADR register
and the EN1K bit in the CNF register in the Intel 82870P2 (P64H2).
This patch adds support for sizing the window in 1K increments based
on the requirements of downstream devices.

9d265124d0 and 15a260d53f added quirks for P2P bridges that support
I/O windows that start/end at 1K boundaries, not just the 4K boundaries
defined by the PCI spec. For details, see the IOBL_ADR register and the
EN1K bit in the CNF register in the Intel 82870P2 (P64H2).
These quirks complicate the code that reads P2P bridge windows
(pci_read_bridge_io() and pci_cfg_fake_ranges()) because the bridge
I/O resource is updated in the HEADER quirk, in pci_read_bridge_io(),
in pci_setup_bridge(), and again in the FINAL quirk. This is confusing
and makes it impossible to reassign the bridge windows after FINAL
quirks are run.
This patch adds support for 1K windows in the generic paths, so the
HEADER quirk only has to enable this support. The FINAL quirk, which
used to undo damage done by pci_setup_bridge(), is no longer needed.
This removes "if (!res->start) res->start = ..." from pci_read_bridge_io();
that was part of 9d265124d0 to avoid overwriting the resource filled in
by the quirk. Since pci_read_bridge_io() itself now knows about
granularity, the quirk no longer updates the resource and this test is no
longer needed.

If we move resource assignment functions into the core, we'll still
need a way for architectures to prevent reassignment, e.g., the
"pci_probe_only" functionality, and we'll need a generic, always
available way the core can test for that. The "pci_flags"
arrangement used by several architectures seems like a convenient
way to do this.

| | \-03.0-[b3]--+-00.0 Oracle Corporation Device 207a
When the BIOS does not assign resources for SRIOV BARs, kernel pci
reallocation only goes up one bridge and then gives up, failing to to
get resources for all sSRIOV BARs, even though the range is large enough
in the peer root bus.
Specifically, only the bridge at the a1:02.0 level has its resources
cleared and reallocated. The kernel does not go up to clear the bridge
at the 80:02.0 level.
To make it go to upper levels, during retry, we need to treat "good to have"
resources as "must have".
Only on the last try will we treat good to have resources as optional.
At that time, parent bridge resources will already have been released so
we'll have a chance to get everything assigned with must_have plus

if (old_size == 1 )
old_size = 0;
if (size < old_size)
size = old_size;
size = ALIGN(size + size1, align);
return size;
}
We should not pass add_size with min_size in calculate_memsize since
that will make add_size not contribute final add_size.
So just pass add_size with size1 to calculate_memsize().

Currently pci-bridges are allocated enough resources to satisfy their immediate
requirements. Any additional resource-requests fail if additional free space,
contiguous to the one already allocated, is not available. This behavior is not
reasonable since sufficient contiguous resources, that can satisfy the request,
are available at a different location.
This patch provides the ability to expand and relocate a allocated resource.

"PCI: pre-allocate additional resources to devices only after
successful allocation of essential resources."
fails to take into consideration the optional-resources needed by children
devices while calculating the optional-resource needed by the bridge.
This can be a problem on some setup. For example, if a hotplug bridge has 8
children hotplug bridges, the bridge should have enough resources to accomodate
the hotplug requirements for each of its children hotplug bridges. Currently
this is not the case.

Fix up trivial conflicts in include/linux/pci_ids.h: commit a6e5e2be44
moved the intel SMBUS ID definitons to the i2c-i801.c driver.
With Ram's fixes, this should be safe to do again. So let's give it
another try.
BIOS separates IO ranges between several IOHs, and on some slots, BIOS
assigns resources to a bridge, but stops assigning resources to the
device under that bridge, because the device needs a big resource.
So:
1. allocate resources and record the failed device resources
2. clear the BIOS assigned resources of the parent bridge of failing device
3. go back and call pci assign unassigned
4. if it still fails, go up the tree, clear more bridges. and try again
Now Ram's allocate requested resource already got into mainline. could
put this one again.

This bug was caused by commit c8adf9a3e8 ("PCI: pre-allocate
additional resources to devices only after successful allocation of
essential resources.")
After that commit, pci_hotplug_io_size is changed to additional_io_size
from minium size. So it will not go through resource_size(res) != 0
path, and will not be reset.
The root cause is: pci_bridge_check_ranges will set RESOURCE_IO flag for
pci bridge, and later if children do not need IO resource. those bridge
resources will not need to be allocated. but flags is still there.
that will confuse the the pci_enable_bridges later.
related code:
static void assign_requested_resources_sorted(struct resource_list *head,
struct resource_list_x *fail_head)
{
struct resource *res;
struct resource_list *list;
int idx;
for (list = head->next; list; list = list->next) {
res = list->res;
idx = res - &list->dev->resource[0];
if (resource_size(res) && pci_assign_resource(list->dev, idx)) {
...
reset_resource(res);
}
}
}
At last, We have to clear the flags in pbus_size_mem/io when requested
size == 0 and !add_head. becasue this case it will not go through
adjust_resources_sorted().
Just make size1 = size0 when !add_head. it will make flags get cleared.
At the same time when requested size == 0, add_size != 0, will still
have in head and add_list. because we do not clear the flags for it.
After this, we will get right result:

had a thinko in the refactorization of the code: the end result used the
variable 'align' for the bus alignment, but the original code used

Since then, another use of that 'align' variable got introduced by
commit c8adf9a3e8 ("PCI: pre-allocate additional resources to devices

Linux tries to pre-allocate minimal resources to hotplug bridges. This
works fine as long as there are enough resources to satisfy all other
genuine resource requirements. However if enough resources are not
available to satisfy any of these nice-to-have pre-allocations, the
resource-allocator reports errors and returns failure.
This patch distinguishes between must-have resource from nice-to-have
resource. Any failure to allocate nice-to-have resources are ignored.
This behavior can be particularly useful to trigger automatic
reallocation when the OS discovers genuine allocation-conflicts or
genuine unallocated-requests caused by buggy allocation behavior of the
native BIOS/uEFI.
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15960 captures the
movitation behind the patch. This patch is verified to resolve the above

Found one PCIe Module with several bridges built-in where a "cold"
hotadd doesn't work.
If we end up reassigning bridge windows at hotadd time, and have to loop
through assigning new ranges, we won't end up enabling the child bridges
because the first assignment pass already tried to enable them, which
prevents __pci_bridge_assign_resource from updating the windows.
So try to move enabling of child bridges to the end, and only do it
once.

An SR-IOV capable device includes an SR-IOV PCIe capability which
describes the Virtual Function (VF) BAR requirements. A typical SR-IOV
device can support multiple VFs whose BARs must be in a contiguous region,
effectively an array of VF BARs. The BAR reports the size requirement
for a single VF. We calculate the full range needed by simply multiplying
the VF BAR size with the number of possible VFs and create a resource
spanning the full range.
This all seems sane enough except it artificially inflates the alignment
requirement for the VF BAR. The VF BAR need only be aligned to the size
of a single BAR not the contiguous range of VF BARs. This can cause us
to fail to allocate resources for the BAR despite the fact that we
actually have enough space.
This patch adds a thin PCI specific layer over the generic
resource_alignment() function which is aware of the special nature of
VF BARs and does sorting and allocation based on the smaller alignment
requirement.
I recognize that while resource_alignment is generic, it's basically a
PCI helper. An alternative to this patch is to add PCI VF BAR specific
information to struct resource. I opted for the extra layer rather than
adding such PCI specific information to struct resource. This does
have the slight downside that we don't cache the BAR size and re-read
for each alignment query (happens a small handful of times during boot
for each VF BAR).

This patch sets up disabled bridges even if buses have already been
added.
pci_assign_unassigned_resources is called after buses are added.
pci_assign_unassigned_resources calls pci_bus_assign_resources.
pci_bus_assign_resources calls pci_setup_bridge to configure BARs of
bridges.
Currently pci_setup_bridge returns immediately if the bus have already
been added. So pci_assign_unassigned_resources can't configure BARs of
bridges that were added in a disabled state; this patch fixes the issue.
On logical hot-add, we need to prevent the kernel from re-initializing
bridges that have already been initialized. To achieve this,
pci_setup_bridge returns immediately if the bridge have already been
enabled.
We don't need to check whether the specified bus is a root bus or not.
pci_setup_bridge is not called on a root bus, because a root bus does
not have a bridge.
The patch adds a new helper function, pci_is_enabled. I made the
function name similar to pci_is_managed. The codes which use
enable_cnt directly are changed to use pci_is_enabled.

other variants.

There's no good reason why a resource_size_t shouldn't just be a
physical address, so simply redefine it in terms of phys_addr_t.

Again, the cleaned up code introduced some resource warnings:
drivers/pci/setup-bus.c: In function 'pci_bus_dump_res':
drivers/pci/setup-bus.c:542: warning: format '%llx' expects type 'long long unsigned int', but argument 5 has type 'resource_size_t'
drivers/pci/setup-bus.c:542: warning: format '%llx' expects type 'long long unsigned int', but argument 6 has type 'resource_size_t'
Fix those up too.

Commit 884525655d ("PCI: clean up resource
alignment management") changed the resource handling to mark how a
resource was aligned on a per-resource basis.
Thus, instead of looking at the resource number to determine whether it
was a bridge resource or a regular resource (they have different
alignment rules), we should just ask the resource for its alignment
directly.
The reason this broke only cardbus resources was that for the other
types of resources, the old way of deciding alignment actually still
happened to work. But CardBus bridge resources had been changed by
commit 934b7024f0 ("Fix cardbus resource
allocation") to look more like regular resources than PCI bridge
resources from an alignment handling standpoint.

Convert printks to use dev_printk().
I converted pr_debug() to dev_dbg(). Both use KERN_DEBUG and are enabled
only when DEBUG is defined.
I converted printk(KERN_DEBUG) to dev_printk(KERN_DEBUG), not to dev_dbg(),
because dev_dbg() is only enabled when DEBUG is defined.
I converted DBG(KERN_INFO) (only in setup-bus.c) to dev_info(). The DBG()
name makes it sound like debug, but it's been enabled forever, so dev_info()
preserves the previous behavior.
I tried to make the resource assignment formats more consistent, e.g.,
"BAR %d: got res [%#llx-%#llx] bus [%#llx-%#llx] flags %#lx\n"
instead of sometimes using "start-end" and sometimes using "size@start".
I'm not attached to one or the other; I'd just like them consistent.

Commit 884525655d ("PCI: clean up resource
alignment management") didn't set the alignment information for the
cardbus window resources, causing their subsequent allocations to fail
miserably with a message like
yenta_cardbus 0000:15:00.0: device not available because of BAR 7 [100:1ff] collisions
yenta_cardbus: probe of 0000:15:00.0 failed with error -16
or similar.
This fixes it and clarifies the code a bit too (we used to have to use
the insane PCI bridge alignment logic that put the alignment in the
"start" field, this makes it use the slightly easier-to-understand
size-based alignment, and allows us to set the resource start to zero
until it gets allocated).

Besides, I removed IORESOURCE_BUS_HAS_VGA flag which was unused for ages.

This reverts commit 8fa5913d54, which
caused various interesting problems for people, including wrong resource
allocations. See for example bugzilla entry "2.6.25-rc2: ohci1394
problem (MMIO broken)" at
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10080
And Gary Hade says:
"The same change had also exposed an issue reported by Paul Martin that
has been causing an Oops while hotplugging ThinkPads to a ThinkPad
Dock II. See
http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/2/19/405http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9961
I have a fix for the ThinkPad docking Oops but if the issue being
discussed here is caused by the transparent bridge sizing removal
change I totally agree that it should be reverted."
The transparent bridge sizing removal change was motivated by
insufficient PCI memory resource for a transparent bridge window that
was being created as a result of expansion ROM(s) being included in
the transparent bridge sizing calculations.
A later "PCI: Remove default PCI expansion ROM memory allocation"
change ( re: http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/12/11/361 ) removes the
expansion ROM(s) from the transparent bridge sizing calculations which
actually resolves the original issue in a different manner. So, even
if the "PCI: remove transparent bridge sizing" is not problematic it
is no longer needed anyway."

The following warnings were issued during build of

Investigating each case closer it looked like all
referred functions are only used in the init phase
or during hotplug.
So to avoid wasting too much memory in the non-hotplug
case the simpler fix was to allow the fuctions to
use code/data from the __devinit sections.
This was done in all four case by adding the __ref
annotation.

The current pci_assign_unassigned_resources() code doesn't work properly
on 32 bits platforms with 64 bits resources. The main reason is the use
of unsigned long in various places instead of resource_size_t.
This is a pre-requisite for making powerpc use the generic code instead of
its own half-useful implementation.

Remove transparent bridge sizing.
Due to code in pci_read_bridge_bases() [drivers/pci/probe.c] the child
bus of a transparent bridge already has access to the parent bus
resources so transparent bridge sizing appears unnecessary. The bridge
sizing includes alignment and granularity adjustments that can cause
significantly more memory to be reserved from the parant bus than
required by devices on the child bus and allotted by _CRS.
