Christian Lamparter 94585b090b p54: put broadcast frames into the right queues
stlc45xx's specs finally brought some light what all the 4 extra queues for.
now CAB data and managment frames have their own queue.

Christian Lamparter 9e7f3f8e4a p54: more definitions form lmac_longbow.h and pda.h
This patch ports more useful features to p54
  - PDR definitions for the synth chips & regulatory domain.
  - honour IEEE80211_TX_CTL_ASSIGN_SEQ flag, if it's set.
  - adds some lost mutex_lock & mutex_unlock.
  - replace two more "magic values" that sneaked past.

Christian Lamparter 9a8675d712 p54: introduce new names for device firmwares
Johannes thought it would have been a good idea to change the firmware names.

Note: we still have fallbacks in case our users don't want to "break their running system",
but we won't advertise them with MODULE_FIRMWARE.

Wang Chen 4ceb7b6ae2 netdevice libertas: Fix directly reference of netdev->priv
We have some reasons to kill netdev->priv:
1. netdev->priv is equal to netdev_priv().
2. netdev_priv() wraps the calculation of netdev->priv's offset, obviously
   netdev_priv() is more flexible than netdev->priv.
But we cann't kill netdev->priv, because so many drivers reference to it
directly.

OK, becasue Dave S. Miller said, "every direct netdev->priv usage is a bug",
and I want to kill netdev->priv later, I decided to convert all the direct
reference of netdev->priv first.

Different to readonly reference of netdev->priv, in this driver, netdev->priv
was changed. I use netdev->ml_priv to replace netdev->priv.

Bob Copeland c793033945 ath5k: correct handling of rx status fields
ath5k_rx_status fields rs_antenna and rs_more are u8s, but we
were setting them with bitwise ANDs of 32-bit values.

As a consequence, jumbo frames would not be discarded as intended.
Then, because the hw rate value of such frames is zero, and, since
"ath5k: rates cleanup", we do not fall back to the basic rate, such

Ooops!

Avoid the sleep by changing iwl_scan_cancel_timeout with

The generic packet receive code takes care of setting

Drivers need not do it any more.

Nick Kossifidis 4c674c60bd ath5k: Update interrupt masking code
*Properly get/set all available ISR/IMR values and review common/uncommon bits
*Better handling of per-txq interrupts (we can now resolve what q is generating
 each interrupt -this will help in debuging wme later)
*Some minor updates from legacy-hal
*Properly handle RXNOFRM and TXNOFRM interrupt masking (even when we don't set
 them on IMR they keep showing up, so we disable them by zeroing AR5K_RXNOFRM
 and AR5K_TXNOFRM registers). This doesn't exist on legacy-hal but i've tested
 it on various cards and it works fine.

The problem fixed here is that iwl3945_mac_get_tsf() returns 0, as the

the mac layer in mlme.c:1605. The consequence is that the STA in ad-hoc

Wang Chen faf3994a9f airo: Kill directly reference of netdev->priv
We have some reasons to kill netdev->priv:
1. netdev->priv is equal to netdev_priv().
2. netdev_priv() wraps the calculation of netdev->priv's offset, obviously
   netdev_priv() is more flexible than netdev->priv.
But we cann't kill netdev->priv, because so many drivers reference to it
directly.

OK, becasue Dave S. Miller said, "every direct netdev->priv usage is a bug",
and I want to kill netdev->priv later, I decided to convert all the direct
reference of netdev->priv first.

In this driver, I don't simply use netdev_priv() to replace netdev->priv.

The reason is:
Pointer netdev->priv was changed in this driver, but it shouldn't.
Because the memory was allocated when alloc_netdev() and netdev->priv
should always point to that memory.

So I use netdev->ml_priv to replace netdev->priv.
After replacing, both ai and ai->wifidev->ml_priv point to the same memory.

Herton Ronaldo Krzesinski f8288317b5 rtl8187: add short slot handling for 8187B
This change adds short slot handling for 8187B variant of rtl8187 chips.
Some things to note about changes done:
* Values used are chosen to met 802.11-2007 spec. This raised a question
  about SIFS value used with 8187L: 0x22 (34) doesn't match any spec
  value. For now just don't change 8187L, but is something to be
  looked at.
* On 8187B, the location of EIFS register is at the same place as BRSR+1
  of struct rtl818x_csr. Unfortunately there is no clean way to
  accomodate 8187B differences currently, just use address of BRSR+1 and
  comment about it. The same thing happens for Ack timeout register,
  that is on CARRIER_SENSE_COUNTER location of 8187L. The eifs and ack
  timeout values are in units of 4us. All these registers information
  was gathered from references being the vendor gpl driver and 8180
  datasheet, unfortunately there is no information about this on 8187B
  datasheet. Also the ack timeout value was inspired by the same
  calculation as done on rt2x00.

Johannes Berg ae5eb02641 mac80211: rewrite HT handling
The HT handling has the following deficiencies, which I've
(partially) fixed:
 * it always uses the AP info even if there is no AP,
   hence has no chance of working as an AP
 * it pretends to be HW config, but really is per-BSS
 * channel sanity checking is left to the drivers
 * it generally lets the driver control too much

HT enabling is still wrong with this patch if you have more than
one virtual STA mode interface, but that never happens currently.
Once WDS, IBSS or AP/VLAN gets HT capabilities, it will also be
wrong, see the comment in ieee80211_enable_ht().

Additionally, this fixes a number of bugs:
 * mac80211: ieee80211_set_disassoc doesn't notify the driver any
             more since the refactoring
 * iwl-agn-rs: always uses the HT capabilities from the wrong stuff
               mac80211 gives it rather than the actual peer STA
 * ath9k: a number of bugs resulting from the broken HT API

I'm not entirely happy with putting the HT capabilities into
struct ieee80211_sta as restricted to our own HT TX capabilities,
but I see no cleaner solution for now.

Take care to handle register 0xa228 exactly as in the HAL released by

Johannes Berg 4233df6b74 ath9k/mac80211: disallow fragmentation in ath9k, report to userspace
As I've reported, ath9k currently fails utterly when fragmentation
is enabled. This makes ath9k "support" hardware fragmentation by
not supporting fragmentation at all to avoid the double-free issue.
The patch also changes mac80211 to report errors from the driver
operation to userspace.

That hack in ath9k should be removed once the rate control algorithm
it has is fixed, and we can at that time consider removing the hw
fragmentation support entirely since it's not used by any driver.

This enables Adaptive Noise Immunity (ANI) on ath9k.
ANI is as algorithm designed to minimize the detrimental
effects of time-varying interferences. This should
help with throughput in noisy environments. To use
ANI we re-enable the MIB interrupt. Since ANI works
on a timer and updates the noise floor we take
advantage of this and also report a non-static noise
floor now to mac80211.

Johannes Berg 4b7679a561 mac80211: clean up rate control API
Long awaited, hard work. This patch totally cleans up the rate control
API to remove the requirement to include internal headers outside of
net/mac80211/.

There's one internal use in the PID algorithm left for mesh networking,
we'll have to figure out a way to clean that one up and decide how to
do the peer link evaluation, possibly independent of the rate control
algorithm or via new API.

Additionally, ath9k is left using the cross-inclusion hack for now, we
will add new API where necessary to make this work properly, but right
now I'm not expert enough to do it. It's still off better than before.

On 64 bit architectures the pointer in the iw_point structure means the
flag parameter is at different offsets in these structures.

Johannes Berg 25d834e162 mac80211: fix virtual interfaces vs. injection
Currently, virtual interface pointers passed to drivers might be
from monitor interfaces and as such completely uninitialised
because we do not tell the driver about monitor interfaces when
those are created. Instead of passing them, we should therefore
indicate to the driver that there is no information; do that by
passing a NULL value and adjust drivers to cope with it.

As a result, some mac80211 API functions also need to cope with
a NULL vif pointer so drivers can still call them unconditionally.

Also, when injecting frames we really don't want to pass NULL all
the time, if we know we are the source address of a frame and have
a local interface for that address, we can to use that interface.
This also helps with processing the frame correctly for that
interface which will help the 802.11w implementation. It's not
entirely correct for VLANs or WDS interfaces because there the MAC
address isn't unique, but it's already a lot better than what we
do now.

Finally, when injecting without a matching local interface, don't
assign sequence numbers at all.

Javier Cardona 9c31fd635d libertas: Reduce the WPA key installation time.
WPA requires that the PTK is installed immediately after the 4-way handshake
in order to properly decrypt the subsequent incoming EAPOL-GTK frame. If the
PTK is not enabled by the time the EAPOL-GTK frame arrives, the frame is
dropped and the supplicant does not receive the group key.

This will happen with fast Access Points that send the EAPOL-GTK frame before
the suplicant has successfully installed and enabled the PTK. To mitigate
this situation, this patch simplifies and accelerates the SIOCSIWENCODEEXT
execution.

as one can see on the huge jump, it's very plausible that firmware does not report the

Therefore if we want a useful timestamp we have to emulate the high bits.

Grumbach, Emmanuel 04816448d8 iwlwifi: use the results from disconnected antenna algorithm
This patch makes usage of the results from disconnected antenna alg to
know how many antennas are connected.

It also synchronizes between the chain noise alg and the W/A that
disables power management during association. All the antennas must be
enables during the chain noise algorithm. Hence, power management is
restored only after the completion of the algorithm.

In the future, we will need to update the AP that we don't support MIMO
if there is only one antenna connected. We also need to update the rate
scaling algorithm.

Use TX control flag IEEE80211_TX_CTL_ASSIGN_SEQ as a request to update

Nick Kossifidis c6e387a214 ath5k: HW code cleanup
* No code changes...

 * Split hw.c to multiple files for better maintenance and add some documentation on each file
   code is going to grow soon (eeprom.c for example is going to get much stuff currently developed
   on ath_info) so it's better this way.

 * Rename following functions to maintain naming scheme:

     ah_setup_xtx_desc -> ah_setup_mrr_tx_desc
     (Because xtx doesn't say much, it's actually
     a multi-rate-retry tx descriptor)

     ath5k_hw_put_tx/rx_buf - > ath5k_hw_set_tx/rxdp
     ath5k_hw_get_tx/rx_buf -> ath5k_hw_get_tx/rxdp
     (We don't put any "buf" we set descriptor pointers on hw)

     ath5k_hw_tx_start -> ath5k_hw_start_tx_dma
     ath5k_hw_start_rx -> ath5k_hw_start_rx_dma
     ath5k_hw_stop_pcu_recv -> ath5k_hw_stop_rx_pcu
     (It's easier this way to identify them, we also
     have ath5k_hw_start_rx_pcu which completes the
     set)

     ath5k_hw_set_intr -> ath5k_hw_set_imr
     (As in get_isr we set imr here, not "intr")

  * Move ath5k_hw_setup_rx_desc on ah->ah_setup_rx_desc so we can
    include support for different rx descriptors in the future

  * Further cleanups so that checkpatch doesn't complain
    (only some > 80 col warnings for eeprom.h and reg.h as usual
    due to comments)

  Tested on 5211 and 5213 cards and works ok.

Tomas Winkler 73b7d74251 iwlwifi: fix Tx cmd memory allocation failure handling
This patch "iwlwifi: do not use GFP_DMA in iwl_tx_queue_init" removes
GFP_DMA from allocation tx command buffers. GFP_DMA allows allocation
only for memory under 16M which causes allocation problems
suspend/resume flows.

Using kmalloc is temporal solution and some consistent/coherent
allocation schema will be more correct. Since iwlwifi hardware
supports 64bit address this solution should work on x86 (32 and
64bit) for now.

This patch fixes memory freeing problem in the previous patch.

This patch fixes rx_chain computation. The code that adjusts number of
rx chains to number supported by HW was missing. Miss configuration

Assaf Krauss b94d8eea44 iwlwifi: W/A for the TSF correction in IBSS
This patch is a W/A for the TSF sync issue in IBSS merging. HW is not
capable to sync TSF (it's constantly little behind). This creates
constant IBSS merging upon reception of each beacon, adding and removing
station which in turn creates above 50% packet loss and thus dramatically
degrade the throughput. The W/A simply stops the driver from declaring it
has a reliable TSF value and thus eliminates IBSS merging.

Senthil Balasubramanian 773b4e02be ath9: Fix ath_rx_flush_tid() for IRQs disabled kernel warning message.
This patch addresses an issue with the locking order. ath_rx_flush_tid()
uses spin_lock/unlock_bh when IRQs are disabled in sta_notify by mac80211.

As node clean up is still pending with ath9k and this problematic portion
of the code is expected to change anyway, thinking of a proper fix may not
be worthwhile. So having this interim fix helps the users to get rid of the
kernel warning message.

Pasted the kernel warning message for reference.

David Kilroy 667d41008e orinoco: Multicast to the specified addresses
When multicasting the driver sets the number of group addresses using
the count from the previous set multicast command. In general this means
you have to set the multicast addresses twice to get the behaviour you
want.

If we were multicasting, and reduce the number of addresses we are
multicasting to, then the driver would write uninitialised data from the
stack into the group addresses to multicast to.

Only write the multicast addresses we have specifically set.

Michael Buesch 18c8adeb02 b43: Rewrite TX power adjustment
This patch rewrites the TX power recalculation algorithms to scale better
with changed enviromnent. If there's low
TX traffic, the power will be checked against the desired values
every 60 seconds.
If there is high TX traffic, the check is redone every 2 seconds. This improves
the reaction times a lot and confuses the rate control less.
It will also reduce the time it initially takes to tune to a new TX power
value. With the old algorithm it could take about 30 to 45 seconds to settle to
a new power value. This will happen in about two to four seconds now.

hardware when the radio is enabled. Configuration changes that are made while
the radio is off are postponed until the radio is switched back on. We also
leave the radio turned off during initialization and only enable it when
