unconditionally", but now that we dropped __CHECK_ENDIAN__
__bitwise is exactly the same.

'ath10k_htt_tx_free_cont_txbuf' and 'ath10k_htt_tx_free_cont_frag_desc'
have NULL pointer checks to avoid crash if they are called twice
but this is as of now not sufficient as these pointers are not assigned
to NULL once the contiguous DMA memory allocation is freed, fix this.
Though this may not be hit with the explicity check of state variable
'tx_mem_allocated' check, good to have this addressed as well.

This reworks the ath9k driver to schedule transmissions to connected
stations in a way that enforces airtime fairness between them. It
accomplishes this by measuring the time spent transmitting to or
receiving from a station at TX and RX completion, and accounting this to
a per-station, per-QoS level airtime deficit. Then, an FQ-CoDel based
deficit scheduler is employed at packet dequeue time, to control which
station gets the next transmission opportunity.
Airtime fairness can significantly improve the efficiency of the network
when station rates vary. The following throughput values are from a
simple three-station test scenario, where two stations operate at the
highest HT20 rate, and one station at the lowest, and the scheduler is
employed at the access point:

The benefit of airtime fairness goes up the more stations are present.
In a 30-station test with one station artificially limited to 1 Mbps,
we have seen aggregate throughput go from 2.14 to 17.76 Mbps.

The ar9300_eeprom logic is already using only 8-bit (endian neutral),
__le16 and __le32 fields to state explicitly how the values should be
interpreted.
All other EEPROM implementations (4k, 9287 and def) were using u16 and
u32 fields with additional logic to swap the values (read from the
original EEPROM) so they match the current CPUs endianness.
The EEPROM format defaults to "all values are Little Endian", indicated
by the absence of the AR5416_EEPMISC_BIG_ENDIAN in the u8 EEPMISC
register. If we detect that the EEPROM indicates Big Endian mode
(AR5416_EEPMISC_BIG_ENDIAN is set in the EEPMISC register) then we'll
swap the values to convert them into Little Endian. This is done by
activating the EEPMISC based logic in ath9k_hw_nvram_swap_data even if
AH_NO_EEP_SWAP is set (this makes ath9k behave like the FreeBSD driver,
which also does not have a flag to enable swapping based on the
AR5416_EEPMISC_BIG_ENDIAN bit). Before this logic was only used to
enable swapping when "current CPU endianness != EEPROM endianness".
After changing all relevant fields to __le16 and __le32 sparse was used
to check that all code which reads any of these fields uses
le{16,32}_to_cpu.

There are two ways of swapping the EEPROM data in the ath9k driver:
1) swab16 based on the first two EEPROM "magic" bytes (same for all
EEPROM formats)
2) field and EEPROM format specific swab16/swab32 (different for
eeprom_def, eeprom_4k and eeprom_9287)
The result of the first check was used to also enable the second swap.
This behavior seems incorrect, since the data may only be byte-swapped
(afterwards the data could be in the correct endianness).
Thus we introduce a separate check based on the "eepmisc" register
(which is part of the EEPROM data). When bit 0 is set, then the EEPROM
format specific values are in "big endian". This is also done by the
FreeBSD kernel, see [0] for example.
This allows us to parse EEPROMs with the "correct" magic bytes but
swapped EEPROM format specific values. These EEPROMs (mostly found in
lantiq and broadcom based big endian MIPS based devices) only worked
due to platform specific "hacks" which swapped the EEPROM so the
magic was inverted, which also enabled the format specific swapping.
With this patch the old behavior is still supported, but neither
recommended nor needed anymore.

The AR5416_VER_MASK macro does the same as get_eeprom_rev, except that
one has to know the actual EEPROM type (and providing a reference to
that in a variable named "eep"). Additionally the eeprom_*.c
implementations used the same shifting logic multiple times to get the
eeprom revision which was also unnecessary duplication of
get_eeprom_rev.
Also use the AR5416_EEP_VER_MINOR_MASK macro where needed and introduce
a similar macro (AR5416_EEP_VER_MAJOR_MASK) for the major version.
Finally drop AR9287_EEP_VER_MINOR_MASK since it simply duplicates the
already defined AR5416_EEP_VER_MINOR_MASK.

get_eeprom(ah, EEP_MINOR_REV) and get_eeprom_rev(ah) are both doing the
same thing: returning the EEPROM revision (12 lowest bits). Make the
code consistent by using get_eeprom_rev(ah) everywhere.

The eepMisc field was not set explicitly. The default value of 0 means
that the values in the EEPROM (template) should be interpreted as little
endian. However, this is not clear until comparing the AR9003 code with
the other EEPROM formats.
To make the code easier to understand we explicitly state that the values
are little endian - there are no functional changes with this patch.

Couple conflicts resolved here:
1) In the MACB driver, a bug fix to properly initialize the
RX tail pointer properly overlapped with some changes
to support variable sized rings.
2) In XGBE we had a "CONFIG_PM" --> "CONFIG_PM_SLEEP" fix
overlapping with a reorganization of the driver to support
ACPI, OF, as well as PCI variants of the chip.
3) In 'net' we had several probe error path bug fixes to the
stmmac driver, meanwhile a lot of this code was cleaned up
and reorganized in 'net-next'.
4) The cls_flower classifier obtained a helper function in
'net-next' called __fl_delete() and this overlapped with
Daniel Borkamann's bug fix to use RCU for object destruction
in 'net'. It also overlapped with Jiri's change to guard
the rhashtable_remove_fast() call with a check against
tc_skip_sw().
5) In mlx4, a revert bug fix in 'net' overlapped with some
unrelated changes in 'net-next'.
6) In geneve, a stale header pointer after pskb_expand_head()
bug fix in 'net' overlapped with a large reorganization of
the same code in 'net-next'. Since the 'net-next' code no
longer had the bug in question, there was nothing to do
other than to simply take the 'net-next' hunks.

Added new areas to fw_mappings area for UCODE code
and data areas.
The new areas are only exposed through debugfs blobs,
and mainly needed to access UCODE logs.
The change does not affect crash dumps because the
newly added areas overlap with the "upper" area which
is already dumped.

Currently it was possible to call remain_on_channel(ROC)
while scan was active and this caused a crash in the FW.
In order to fix this problem and make the behavior
consistent with other drivers, queue the ROC in case
a scan is active and try it again when scan is done.
As part of the fix, clean up some locking issues and
return error if scan is called while ROC is active.

The usb_*_msg() functions expect a timeout in msecs but are given HZ,
which is ticks per second. If HZ=100, firmware download often times out
when there is modest USB utilization and the device fails to initialize.
Replaces HZ in usb_*_msg timeouts with 1000 msec since HZ is one second
for timeouts in jiffies.

These memory chunks are often used as 'swap' by the NIC,
so it will be both reading and writing to these areas.

With maximum number of vap's configured in a two radio supported
systems of ~256 Mb RAM, doing a continuous wifi down/up and
intermittent traffic streaming from the connected stations results
in failure to allocate contiguous memory for tx buffers. This results
in the disappearance of all VAP's and a manual reboot is needed as
this is not a crash (or) OOM(for OOM killer to be invoked). To address
this allocate contiguous memory for tx buffers one time and re-use them
until the modules are unloaded but this results in a slight increase in
memory footprint of ath10k when the wifi is down, but the modules are
still loaded. Also as of now we use a separate bool 'tx_mem_allocated'
to keep track of the one time memory allocation, as we cannot come up
with something like 'ath10k_tx_{register,unregister}' before
'ath10k_probe_fw' is called as 'ath10k_htt_tx_alloc_cont_frag_desc'

During firmware crash (or) user requested manual restart
the system gets into a soft lock up state because of the
below root cause.
During user requested hardware restart / firmware crash
the system goes into a soft lockup state as 'napi_synchronize'
is called after 'napi_disable' (which sets 'NAPI_STATE_SCHED'
bit) and it sleeps into infinite loop as it waits for
'NAPI_STATE_SCHED' to be cleared. This condition is hit because
'ath10k_hif_stop' is called twice as below (resulting in calling
'napi_synchronize' after 'napi_disable')
'ath10k_core_restart' -> 'ath10k_hif_stop' (ATH10K_STATE_ON) ->
-> 'ieee80211_restart_hw' -> 'ath10k_start' -> 'ath10k_halt' ->
'ath10k_core_stop' -> 'ath10k_hif_stop' (ATH10K_STATE_RESTARTING)
Fix this by calling 'ath10k_halt' in ath10k_core_restart itself
as it makes more sense before informing mac80211 to restart h/w
Also remove 'ath10k_halt' in ath10k_start for the state of 'restarting'

There is a typo bug in the current implementation of
ath10k_wmi_tlv_op_gen_pdev_set_rd.
The conformance test limits are not set up properly.
The two arguments ctl2g and ctl5g were not used at all.
Instead, the regdomain arguments rd2g and rd5g were used
for the ctl settings as well.

Radar pulse and spectral scan reports are provided by the HW
with the ATH9K_RXERR_PHY flag set. Those are forwarded to
the dfs-detector and spectral module for further processing.
For some older chips, the pre-conditions checked in those
modules are ambiguous, since ATH9K_PHYERR_RADAR is used to
tag both types. As a result, spectral frames are fed into
the dfs-detector and vice versa.
This could lead to a false radar detection on a non-DFS
channel (which is uncritical), but more relevant it causes
useless CPU load for processing invalid frames.
This commit ensures that the dfs-detector and spectral
collector are only fed when they are active.

In commit a5ffbe0a19 ("rtlwifi: Fix scheduling while atomic bug") and
commit a269913c52 ("rtlwifi: Rework rtl_lps_leave() and rtl_lps_enter()
to use work queue"), an error was introduced in the power-save routines
due to the fact that leaving PS was delayed by the use of a work queue.
This problem is fixed by detecting if the enter or leave routines are
in interrupt mode. If so, the workqueue is used to place the request.
If in normal mode, the enter or leave routines are called directly.

mt7601u_mac_stop_hw should stop polling the rxq once it remains empty
but instead continues polling after the rxq status stays clear; bringing
down the interface takes about six seconds from this alone.
Speed up path by exiting rxq loop once status repeatedly polls empty.

The scan results for scheduled scan as retrieved from the device
have changed. A field has been added which is not needed. However,
the appended info is. Luckily they are versioned so check that to
find out the location of the appended data.

User-space can specify the interval for the scheduled scan. This
interval is found in scheduled scan plan. The driver supports only
one plan, which is legacy behaviour.

In the .sched_scan_start() callback a condition was checked whether a
normal scan was ongoing. However, there is no need for this check as
it is ok to start the scheduled scan irrespective whether or not a
normal scan is ongoing.

User-space can provide list of channels in the schedule scan request.
This was ignored so all channels supported and allowed by the device
were used. This patch configures the device to use the channels as
listed in the request.

For scheduled scan we initiate an escan in firmware to obtain more
info missing from the scheduled scan notification we get from firmware.
For upcoming functionality this is also required so make it a bit
more generic.

The ssids list in the scheduled scan request were not properly taken
into account when configuring in firmware. The hidden bit was set for
any ssid resulting in active scanning for all. Only set it for ssids
that are in the ssids list.

Marvell Wifi PCIe modules don't always behave nicely for PCIe power
management when their firmware hasn't been loaded, particularly after
suspending the PCIe link one or more times. When this happens, we might
end up spinning forever in this status-polling tight loop. Let's make
this less tight by adding a timeout and by sleeping a bit in between
reads, as we do with the other similar loops.
This prevents us from hogging a CPU even in such pathological cases, and
allows the FW initialization to just fail gracefully instead.
I chose the same polling parameters as the earlier loop in this
function, and empirically, I found that this loop never makes it more
than about 12 cycles in a sane FW init sequence. I had no official
information on the actual intended latency for this portion of the
download.

The report is valid: doing the math in this function, with an input value
N=63 the variable s16tableIndex gets a value of 31. This value is used as
an index in the array log_table with 32 entries. But the next line is:

With s16tableIndex + 1 we are trying an out-of-bounds access to the array.
The log_table array provides log2 values in q.15 format and the above

In order to obtain retry count for a given rate we need to pass the
full struct ieee80211_tx_info to the function setting the rate in he
TX descriptor.
This uncovered a huge bug where the old code would use struct
ieee80211_rate.flags to test for rate parameters, which is always
zero, instead of the flags value from struct ieee80211_tx_rate.
Time to find a brown paper bag :(

The 8192eu suffered from two issues when reloading the driver.
The same problems as with the 8723bu where REG_RX_WAIT_CCA bits 22 and
23 didn't get set in rtl8192e_enable_rf().
In addition it also seems prone to issues when setting REG_RF_CTRL to
0 intead of just disabling the RF_ENABLE bit. Similar to what was
causing issues with the 8188eu.
With this patch I can successfully reload the driver and reassociate
to an APi with an 8192eu dongle.

The generic disable_rf() function clears bits 22 and 23 in
REG_RX_WAIT_CCA, however we did not re-enable them again in
rtl8723b_enable_rf()
This resolves the problem for me with 8723bu devices not working again
after reloading the driver.

A device running without RX package aggregation could return more data
in the USB packet than the actual network packet. In this case the
could would clone the skb but then determine that that there was no
packet to handle and exit without freeing the cloned skb first.
This has so far only been observed with 8188eu devices, but could
affect others.

We have a race where the wakeup IRQ might be in flight while we're
calling mwifiex_disable_wake() from resume(). This can leave us
disabling the IRQ twice.
Let's disable the IRQ and enable it in case if we have double-disabled
it.

Transmit power level in a channel is determined based on the dfs region.
To support regulatory rules dfs region should be configured to device during
set channel request. Also antenna gain values are taken from the mac80211
channel parameters instead of fixed values.

TX power can be configured from iwconfig, iw or from mac80211 when
regulatory changes are done. Hence support for configuring tx power
to device is added using the RADIO_PARAMS_UPDATE command frame.

Filtering rx frames after connection in station mode avoids the
overhead of processing un-necessary frames. Hence rx filter frame
is added which can be configured to device at suitable times.

In order to receive other BSS entries in mesh mode, Monitor vdev
is created whenever filter flag is set with OTHER_BSS. Recently
it is root caused that setting promisc filter for Mesh interface
is causing performance and stability issues. To fix this issue,
firmware will configure appropriate rxfilters by default for mesh
vdev during vdev creation. This change fixes monitor vdev creation
based on firmware IE

Per peer tx stats are part of 'HTT_10_4_T2H_MSG_TYPE_PEER_STATS'
event, Firmware sends one HTT event for every four PPDUs.
HTT payload has success pkts/bytes, failed pkts/bytes, retry
pkts/bytes and rate info per ppdu.
Peer stats are enabled through 'WMI_SERVICE_PEER_STATS',
which are nowadays enabled by default.
Parse peer stats and update the tx rate information per STA.
tx rate, Peer stats are tested on QCA4019 with Firmware version
10.4-3.2.1-00028.

Change default to RTS/CTS protection. This has a cost of transmitting
one more control frame (RTS) however protect us from traffic from
hidden node.
On station mode will use CTS-to-self if AP will configure that
for the network.

We already initlized WPDMA_GLO_CFG_WP_DMA_BURST_SIZE to 3 on
rt2800_init_registers() for USB devices. For PCI devices we will use
HW default setting, which is 2, so patch does not change behaviour
on PCI devices.

We should not reset USB_DMA_CFG on rt2800usb_init_registers() as this
function is called indirectly from rt2800_enable_radio(). If we
do so, we wipe out USB_DMA_CFG settings from rt2800usb_enable_radio().

Firmware doesn't update beacon/Probe Response vendor IEs correctly when
bss is down, so we move brcmf_config_ap_mgmt_ie after BSS up. And host
driver should clear IEs when AP stopped so that the IEs in host side will
be synced with in firmware side.

In device removal routine, usage of "#ifdef CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_USB"
will not cover the case when it is configured as module. This will
omit the entire if-block which does cleanup of URBs and cancellation
of pending work. Changing the #ifdef to #if IS_ENABLED() to fix it.

When FW crashes with no_fw_recovery option, driver
waits for manual recovery with wil->mutex held, this
can easily create deadlocks.
Fix the problem by moving the wait outside the lock.

Driver calls to netif_tx_stop_all_queues/netif_tx_wake_all_queues are
inconsistent. In several cases, driver can get to a situation where net
queues are stopped forever and data cannot be sent.
The fix is to stop net queues if there is at least one vring which is
"full" and to wake net queues if all vrings are not "full".

Commit b2d70d4944 ("ath9k: make GPIO API to support both of WMAC and
SOC") refactored ath9k_hw_gpio_get() to support both WMAC and SOC GPIOs,
changing the return on success from 1 to BIT(gpio). This broke some callers
like ath_is_rfkill_set(). This doesn't fix any known bug in mainline at the
moment, but should be fixed anyway.
Instead of fixing all callers, change ath9k_hw_gpio_get() back to only
return 0 or 1.

Command structure and event flow doesn't seem to

Neither of these did the right thing:
- get_tsf just returned 0
- set_tsf assumed a simple offset was applied against
get_tsf(), which works, except in the case of
calculating TSF from rx_mactime (actual TSF).
Just remove them for now. We can reimplement set_tsf in
terms of TSF increment/decrement in the future if get_tsf
is ever supported by FW.

Current set_tsf is implemented in terms of TSF_INCREMENT
only. Instead support new WMI command TSF_DECREMENT and
export these through offset_tsf. Advantage is we get
more accurate TSF adjustments, and don't calculate wrong
offset in case absolute TSF was calculated from rx_mactime
(actual TSF).
The new WMI command is available in firmware
10.4-3.2.1-00033 for QCA4019 chips. Old drivers on new
firmware or vice versa shouldn't be a problem since
get/set tsf logic was already broken.

Indicate hardware (or firmware) supports that CQM packet-loss report
will be generated based on station kickout algorithm. As of now mac80211
tracks connection loss by missing msdu counts (50) whereas ath10k
firmware tracks them by missing ppdus (+ BAR tries). While firmware is
trying to adapt its rate table, mac80211 might send out low_ack event to
hostapd. This is causing frequent connect and disconnect iteration under
noisy environment or when station is roaming around.

ath.git patches for 4.10. Major changes:
ath9k
* add device tree bindings
* switch to use mac80211 intermediate software queues to reduce
latency and fix bufferbloat
All conflicts were simple overlapping changes except perhaps
for the Thunder driver.
That driver has a change_mtu method explicitly for sending
a message to the hardware. If that fails it returns an
error.
Normally a driver doesn't need an ndo_change_mtu method becuase those
are usually just range changes, which are now handled generically.
But since this extra operation is needed in the Thunder driver, it has
to stay.
However, if the message send fails we have to restore the original
MTU before the change because the entire call chain expects that if
an error is thrown by ndo_change_mtu then the MTU did not change.
Therefore code is added to nicvf_change_mtu to remember the original
MTU, and to restore it upon nicvf_update_hw_max_frs() failue.

card->adapter gets initialized in mwifiex_register_dev(). As it's not
cleared in mwifiex_unregister_dev(), we may end up accessing the memory
which is already free in below scenario.
Scenario: Driver initialization is failed due to incorrect firmware or
some other reason. Meanwhile device reboot/unload occurs.
This is safe, now that we've properly synchronized suspend() and
remove() with the FW initialization thread; now that code can simply
check for 'card->adapter == NULL' and exit safely.

It's possible for the FW init sequence to fail, which will trigger a
device cleanup sequence in mwifiex_fw_dpc(). This sequence can race with
device suspend() or remove() (e.g., reboot or unbind), and can trigger
use-after-free issues. Currently, this driver attempts (poorly) to
synchronize remove() using a semaphore, but it doesn't protect some of
the critical sections properly. Particularly, we grab a pointer to the
adapter struct (card->adapter) without checking if it's being freed or
not. We later do a NULL check on the adapter, but that doesn't work if
the adapter was freed.
Also note that the PCIe interface driver doesn't ever set card->adapter
to NULL, so even if we get the synchronization right, we still might try
to redo the cleanup in ->remove(), even if the FW init failure sequence
already did it.
This patch replaces the static semaphore with a per-device completion
struct, and uses that completion to synchronize the remove() thread with
the mwifiex_fw_dpc(). A future patch will utilize this completion to
synchronize the suspend() thread as well.

We may get SLEEP event from firmware even if TXDone interrupt
for last Tx packet is still pending. In this case, we may
end up accessing PCIe memory for handling TXDone after power
save handshake is completed. This causes kernel crash with
external abort.
This patch will only allow downloading sleep confirm
when no tx done interrupt is pending in the hardware.

Commit ce4f6f0c35 ("mwifiex: add platform specific wakeup interrupt
support") added WoWLAN feature only for sdio. This patch moves that
code to the common module so that all the interface drivers can use
it for free. It enables pcie and sdio for its use currently.

Introduce function mwifiex_probe_of() to parse common properties.
Interface drivers get to decide whether or not the device tree node
was a valid one (depending on the compatible property),
Lets fill "adapter->dt_node" in mwifiex_add_card().
The function mwifiex_probe_of() is currently only a place holder with
the next patch adding content to it.

Today all the interface drivers (usb/pcie/sdio) assign the
adapter->dev in the register_dev() callback, although they
have this piece of info well before hand.
This patch makes the device structure available for mwifiex
right at the beginning, so that it can be used for early
initialization if needed.
This is needed for subsequent patches in this patchset that
intend to unify and consolidate some of the code that would
otherwise have to be duplicated among the interface drivers
(sdio, pcie, usb).

Make struct pernet_operations::id unsigned.
There are 2 reasons to do so:
1)
This field is really an index into an zero based array and
thus is unsigned entity. Using negative value is out-of-bound
access by definition.
2)
On x86_64 unsigned 32-bit data which are mixed with pointers
via array indexing or offsets added or subtracted to pointers
are preffered to signed 32-bit data.
"int" being used as an array index needs to be sign-extended
to 64-bit before being used.

This is a semmingly random artefact of code generation with register
allocator being used differently. gcc decides that some variable
needs to live in new r8+ registers and every access now requires REX
prefix. Or it is shifted into r12, so [r12+0] addressing mode has to be

The cleanup_if() callback is the inverse of init_if(). We allocate our
'card' interface structure in the probe() function, but we free it in
cleanup_if(). That gives a few problems:
(a) we leak this memory if probe() fails before we reach init_if()
(b) we can't safely utilize 'card' after cleanup_if() -- namely, in
remove() or suspend(), both of which might race with the cleanup
paths in our asynchronous FW initialization path
Solution: just use devm_kzalloc(), which will free this structure
properly when the device is removed -- and drop the set_drvdata(...,
NULL), since the driver core does this for us. This also removes the
temptation to use drvdata == NULL as a hack for checking if the device
has been "cleaned up."
I *do* leave the set_drvdata(..., NULL) for the hacky SDIO
mwifiex_recreate_adapter(), since the device core won't be able to clear
that one for us.

It is not allowed to call kfree_skb() from hardware interrupt
context or with interrupts being disabled, spin_lock_irqsave()
make sure always in irq disable context. So the kfree_skb()
should be replaced with dev_kfree_skb_irq().

On x86, the cw1200 driver produces a rather silly warning about the
possible use of the 'ret' variable without an initialization
presumably after being confused by the architecture specific definition
of WARN_ON:

The hostap_80211_rx() function is supposed to set up the mac addresses
for four possible cases, based on two bits of input data. For
some reason, gcc decides that it's possible that none of the these
four cases apply and the addresses remain uninitialized:

This warning is clearly nonsense, but changing the last case into
'default' makes it obvious to the compiler too, which avoids the
warning and probably leads to better object code too.
The same code is duplicated several times in the kernel, so this
patch uses the same workaround for all copies. The exact configuration
was hit only very rarely in randconfig builds and I only saw it
in three drivers, but I assume that all of them are potentially
affected, and it's better to keep the code consistent.

* Command frame vap_capabilites is modified to use for vap add, vap delete
and vap update in firmware, hence new filed vap status is added.
* When interface is down this frame needs to be send with vap status delete.
Otherwise it is considered as wrong frame for the same interface in firmware.
* vap_update status is reserved for future.

Register the WLAN device as a wakeup source since it can
wake the system via wake-on-wireless-lan. In an actual wowlan
event, notify the PM core that we are the current wakeup source.
This allows the PM core to update the wakeup attributes in /sys.
This was causing wakeup issues on chromeos as the system was
apparently confused about the wakeup source.

This event is used by the Firmware to limit the RX BA win size
for a specific link.
The event handler updates the new size in the mac's sta->sta struct.
BA sessions opened for that link will use the new restricted
win_size. This limitation remains until a new update is received or
until the link is closed.

When starting a new BA session, we must pass the win_size to the FW.
To do this we take max_rx_aggregation_subframes (BA RX win size)
which is stored in ieee80211_sta structure (e.g per link and not per HW)
We will use the value stored per link when passing the win_size to
firmware through the ACX_BA_SESSION_RX_SETUP command.

This switches ath9k over to using the mac80211 intermediate software
queueing mechanism for data packets. It removes the queueing inside the
driver, except for the retry queue, and instead pulls from mac80211 when
a packet is needed. The retry queue is used to store a packet that was
pulled but can't be sent immediately.
The old code path in ath_tx_start that would queue packets has been
removed completely, as has the qlen limit tunables (since there's no
longer a queue in the driver to limit).
The mac80211 intermediate software queues offer significant latency
reductions, and this patch allows ath9k to realise them. The exact gains
from this varies with the test scenario, but in an access point scenario
we have seen latency reductions ranging from 1/3 to as much as an order
of magnitude. We also achieve slightly better aggregation.
Median latency (ping) figures with this patch applied at the access point,
with two high-rate stations and one low-rate station (HT20 5Ghz), running
a Flent rtt_fair_var_up test with one TCP flow and one ping flow going to
each station:

Default pfifo_fast qdisc: 430.4 ms 638.7 ms
fq_codel qdisc on iface: 35.5 ms 211.8 ms

This allows setting the MAC address and specifying that the firmware
will be requested from userspace (because there might not be a hardware
EEPROM connected to the chip) for ath9k based PCI devices using
the device tree.
There is some out-of-tree code to "convert devicetree to
ath9k_platform_data" (for example in OpenWrt and LEDE) which becomes
obsolete with this patch.

The active_high LED of my Wistron DNMA-92 is still being recognized as
active_low on 4.7.6 mainline. When I was preparing my former commit
0f9edcdd88 ("ath9k: Fix LED polarity for some Mini PCI AR9220 MB92
cards.") to fix that I must have somehow messed up with testing, because
I tested the final version of that patch before sending it, and it was
apparently working; but now it is not working on 4.7.6 mainline.
I initially added the PCI_DEVICE_SUB section for 0x0029/0x2096 above the
PCI_VDEVICE section for 0x0029; but then I moved the former below the
latter after seeing how 0x002A sections were sorted in the file.
This turned out to be wrong: if a generic PCI_VDEVICE entry (that has
both subvendor and subdevice IDs set to PCI_ANY_ID) is put before a more
specific one (PCI_DEVICE_SUB), then the generic PCI_VDEVICE entry will
match first and will be used.
With this patch, 0x0029/0x2096 has finally got active_high LED on 4.7.6.
While I'm at it, let's fix 0x002A too by also moving its generic definition
below its specific ones.

Due to the cast from uint32_t to int64_t, a wrong next beacon timing is
calculated and effectively the beacon timer stops working. This is
especially bad for 802.11s mesh networks, because discovery breaks
without beacons.

The call to krealloc() in wsm_buf_reserve() directly assigns the newly
returned memory to buf->begin. This is all fine except when krealloc()
failes we loose the ability to free the old memory pointed to by
buf->begin. If we just create a temporary variable to assign memory to
and assign the memory to it we can mitigate the memory leak.

Marvell p2p device disappears from the list of p2p peers on the other
p2p device after disconnection.
It happens due to a bug in driver. When interface is changed from p2p
to station, certain variables(bss_type, bss_role etc.) aren't correctly
updated. This patch corrects them to fix the issue.

It is observed that if single tid 6 packet comes among with massive tid 0
packets, tid 6 packet may stay in it's queue and will never be
transmited. This is because wmm.highest_queued_prio will be set to 2
during transmission of tid 0 packets As a result, main work thread
keeps on looping without serving that packet. In this case, if command
has downloaded to firmware, driver doesn't process it's response causing
command timeout.
This patch will reset highest_queued_prio if packets exist in data
queue, and try to find a ra_list for current private.

At couple of places in cleanup path, we are just going through the
skb queue and freeing them without unlinking. This leads to a crash
when other thread tries to do skb_dequeue() and use already freed node.
The problem is freed by unlinking skb before freeing it.

Following is mwifiex driver-firmware host sleep handshake.
It involves three threads. suspend handler, interrupt handler, interrupt
processing in main work queue.
1) Enter suspend handler
2) Download HS_CFG command
3) Response from firmware for HS_CFG
4) Suspend thread waits until handshake completes(i.e hs_activate becomes
true)
5) SLEEP from firmware
6) SLEEP confirm downloaded to firmware.
7) SLEEP confirm response from firmware
8) Driver processes SLEEP confirm response and set hs_activate to wake up
suspend thread
9) Exit suspend handler
10) Read sleep cookie in loop and wait until it indicates firmware is
sleep.
11) After processing SLEEP confirm response, we are at the end of interrupt
processing routine. Recheck if there are interrupts received while we were
processing them.
During suspend-resume stress test, it's been observed that we may end up
acessing PCIe hardware(in 10 and 11) when PCIe bus is closed which leads
to a kernel crash.
This patch solves the problem with below changes.
a) action 10 above can be done before 8
b) Skip 11 if hs_activated is true. SLEEP confirm response
is the last interrupt from firmware. No need to recheck for
pending interrupts.
c) Add flush_workqueue() in suspend handler.

So far our core code was calling brcmf_fws_process_skb which wasn't
a proper thing to do. If case of devices using msgbuf protocol fwsignal
shouldn't be used. It was an unnecessary extra layer simply calling
a protocol specifix txdata function.
Please note we already have txdata callback, but it's used for calls
between bcdc and fwsignal so it couldn't be simply used there.
This makes core code more generic (instead of bcdc/fwsignal specific).

On some devices the EEPROMs of Ralink Wi-Fi chips have a default Ralink
MAC address set (RT3062F: 00:0C:43:30:62:00, RT3060F:
00:0C:43:30:60:00). Using multiple of these devices in the same network
can cause nasty issues.
Allow to override the MAC in the EEPROM with (a known good) one set in
the device tree to bypass the issue.

Now genl_register_family() is the only thing (other than the
users themselves, perhaps, but I didn't find any doing that)
writing to the family struct.
In all families that I found, genl_register_family() is only
called from __init functions (some indirectly, in which case
I've add __init annotations to clarifly things), so all can
actually be marked __ro_after_init.
This protects the data structure from accidental corruption.

Instead of providing macros/inline functions to initialize
the families, make all users initialize them statically and
get rid of the macros.
This reduces the kernel code size by about 1.6k on x86-64
(with allyesconfig).

Static family IDs have never really been used, the only
use case was the workaround I introduced for those users
that assumed their family ID was also their multicast
group ID.
Additionally, because static family IDs would never be
reserved by the generic netlink code, using a relatively
low ID would only work for built-in families that can be
registered immediately after generic netlink is started,
which is basically only the control family (apart from
the workaround code, which I also had to add code for so
it would reserve those IDs)
Thus, anything other than GENL_ID_GENERATE is flawed and
luckily not used except in the cases I mentioned. Move
those workarounds into a few lines of code, and then get
rid of GENL_ID_GENERATE entirely, making it more robust.

The old WDS 4-addr frame support is very limited, e.g.
* no encryption is possible on such links
* it cannot support rate/HT/VHT negotiation
* management APIs are very restricted
These make the WDS legacy mode useless in practice.
All of these are resolved by the 4-addr AP/client support,
so there's also no reason to improve WDS in the future.
Therefore, add a Kconfig option to disable legacy WDS.
This gives people an "emergency valve" while they migrate
to the better-supported 4-addr AP/client option; we plan
to remove it (and the associated cfg80211/mac80211 code,
which is the ultimate goal) in the future.

iwlmvm currently uses dev_coredumpm() to collect multiple
buffers, but this has the downside of pinning the module
until the coredump expires, if the data isn't read by any
userspace.
Avoid this by using the new dev_coredumpsg() method. We
still copy the data from the old way of generating it, but
neither hold on to vmalloc'ed data for a long time, nor do
we pin the module now.

New firmwares support dynamic queue allocation (DQA), which enables
on-demand allocation of queues per RA/TID, instead of allocating them
statically per vif. This allows an AP to send, for instance, BE
traffic to STA2 even if it also needs to send traffic to a sleeping
STA1, without being blocked by the sleeping station.
The implementation in the driver is now ready, so we can enable this
feature by default when running firmwares that support it.

Currently mac80211 determines whether HW does fragmentation
by checking whether the set_frag_threshold callback is set
or not.
However, some drivers may want to set the HW fragmentation
capability depending on HW generation.
Allow this by checking a HW flag instead of checking the
callback.

Currently when configuring the cab queue the scheduler is configured
without station id - which results in station id 0.
In DQA mode this causes firmware to assert later on when the actual
station 0 is added with an empty tfd_queue_mask.
Fix that by configuring the queue to the broadcast station.
This is a bit trickier since the queue should not be included in the
tfd_queue_mask of the ADD_STA since it is a multicast queue, and the
tfd_queue_mask is only unicast queue. As a result the queue should be
enabled only after the broadcast station is added.

When a peer associates, the firmware will soon want to know
its AID to be able to compute the TIM IE by itself.
In DQA, the firmware has all the information it needs to
update the TIM internally. The only missing part is the
AID.

When using RSS on 9000 series devices, we can't rely on processing the
received frames for station powersave handling, since they could be
processed on different CPUs and out of order.
In order to still manage the powersave of stations, the firmware sends
a notification on sleep->wake, wake->sleep and - for U-APSD - frames
received with PM while already sleeping (with the TID.)
With this, the driver can set AP_LINK_PS, which is required for real
parallel RX. In addition, this requires checking for PS-Poll frames
and calling ieee80211_sta_pspoll() appropriately.

When a STA has deferred traffic to TX, an appropriate bit
is turned on in %deferred_tx_frames to indicate deferred
traffic. This marking is never turned off, resulting in
iterating over TIDs with no deferred traffic.
Although this didn't cause any failures/errors/bugs, there
is still no point of iterating over these TIDs when not
needed.

With unified images, we need to make sure the net-detect scan is
stopped after resuming, since we don't restart the FW. Also, we need
to make sure we check if there are enough scan slots available to run
it, as we do with other scans.

The SPLC data parsing is too restrictive and was not trying find the
correct element for WiFi. This causes problems with some BIOSes where
the SPLC method exists, but doesn't have a WiFi entry on the first
element of the list. The domain type values are also incorrect
according to the specification.
Fix this by complying with the actual specification.
Additionally, replace all occurrences of SPLX to SPLC, since SPLX is
only a structure internal to the ACPI tables, and may not even exist.

When we sync the RX queues the driver waits to receive echo
notification on all the RX queues.
The wait queue is set with timeout until all queues have received
the notification.
However, iwl_mvm_rx_queue_notif() never woke up the wait queue,
with the result of the counter value being checked only when the
timeout expired.
This may cause a latency of up to 1 second.

If the suspend flow fails, we restart the hardware to go back to
the D0 image (with non-unified images), but we don't comply with
the fw_restart module parameter. If something goes wrong when
starting the D3 image, we may want to debug it, so we should
comply with the fw_restart flag to avoid clearing everything up
and losing the firmware state when the error occurred.

In iwl_dbgfs_mem_read(), the len variable may become negative and is
compared to < 0 (an error case). Comparing size_t (which is unsigned)
to < 0 causes a warning on certain platforms (like i386):

Emmanuel reports that when CMD_WANT_ASYNC_CALLBACK is used by mvm,
the callback will be called with the command queue lock held, and
mvm will try to stop all (other) TX queues, which acquires their
locks - this caused a false lockdep recursive locking report.
Suppress this report by marking the command queue lock with a new,
separate, lock class so lockdep can tell the difference between
the two types of queues.

arvifs list is traversed within data_lock spin_lock in tasklet
context to fill channel information from the corresponding vif.
This means any access to arvifs list for add/del operations
should also be protected with the same spin_lock to avoid the
race. Fix this by performing list add/del on arvfis within the

'ath10k_htt_rx_h_unchain' needs to be called only if the return
value from 'ath10k_htt_rx_amsdu_pop' is 1('chained msdu's'), this
change makes it more explicit and avoids doing a skb_peek, fetching
rx descriptor pointer, checking rx msdu decap format for the case of
ret = 0 (unchained msdus). Found this change during code walk through,
not sure if this addresses any issue.

With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by
eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as
deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been
audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means
they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu
prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of
out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it.
Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using
eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you
couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. It's now getting dev->max_mtu also set
to 4096 to remedy that.

Commit 0b8e3c4ca2 ("ath10k: move cal data len to hw_params") broke retrieving
the calibration data from cal_data debugfs file. The length of file was always
zero. The reason is:

This is obviously bogus, private_data cannot contain both struct ath10k and the
buffer. Fix it by caching calibration data to ar->debug.cal_data. This also
allows it to be accessed when the device is not active (interface is down).
The cal_data buffer is fixed size because during the first firmware probe we
don't yet know what will be the lenght of the calibration data. It was simplest
just to use a fixed length. There's a WARN_ON() in
ath10k_debug_cal_data_fetch() if the buffer is too small.
Tested with qca988x and firmware 10.2.4.70.56.

In commit d86e647688 ("rtlwifi: rtl818x: constify local structures"),
the configuration struct for most of the drivers was changed to be
constant. The problem is that five of the modified drivers need to be
able to update the firmware name based on the exact model of the card.
As the file names were stored in one of the members of that struct,
these drivers would fail with a kernel BUG splat when they tried to
update the firmware name.
Rather than reverting the previous commit, I used a suggestion by
Johannes Berg and made the firmware file name pointers be local to
the routines that update the software variables.
The configuration struct of rtl8192cu, which was not touched in the
previous patch, is now constantfied.

Instead of building the multi-channel ops at runtime, declare
the common ops with a macro and build both that way, so that
the multi-channel ops can also be const.
As a side effect, due to the removed code, this decreases the
size of the module (while shifting data from .bss to .text
due to the newly added const).

We should not accept arbitrary DA/SA inside A-MSDUs, it could be used
to circumvent protections, like allowing a station to send frames and
make them seem to come from somewhere else.
Add the necessary infrastructure in cfg80211 to allow such checks, in
further patches we'll start using them.

which is in mac80211. Given that there's only simple code that needs

The 8192eu suffered from two issues when reloading the driver.
The same problems as with the 8723bu where REG_RX_WAIT_CCA bits 22 and
23 didn't get set in rtl8192e_enable_rf().
In addition it also seems prone to issues when setting REG_RF_CTRL to
0 intead of just disabling the RF_ENABLE bit. Similar to what was
causing issues with the 8188eu.
With this patch I can successfully reload the driver and reassociate
to an APi with an 8192eu dongle.

The generic disable_rf() function clears bits 22 and 23 in
REG_RX_WAIT_CCA, however we did not re-enable them again in
rtl8723b_enable_rf()
This resolves the problem for me with 8723bu devices not working again
after reloading the driver.

A device running without RX package aggregation could return more data
in the USB packet than the actual network packet. In this case we
could would clone the skb but then determine that that there was no
packet to handle and exit without freeing the cloned skb first.
This has so far only been observed with 8188eu devices, but could
affect others.

To reuse the busreqs in case of hardware restart, they must be
properly reinitialized. If the scat_req pointer isn't reset to
0, __ath6kl_sdio_write_async() will assume there is sg work to be
done (causing a kernel OOPS).

Unfortunately ath10k does not generally allow modifying the coverage class
with the stock firmware and Qualcomm has so far refused to implement this
feature so that it can be properly supported in ath10k. If we however know
the registers that need to be modified for proper operation with a higher
coverage class, then we can do these modifications from the driver.
This is a hack and might cause subtle problems but as it's not enabled by
default (only when user space changes the coverage class explicitly) it should
not cause new problems for existing setups. But still this should be considered
as an experimental feature and used with caution.
This patch implements the support for first generation cards (QCA9880, QCA9887
and so on) which are based on a core that is similar to ath9k. The registers
are modified in place and need to be re-written every time the firmware sets
them. To achieve this the register status is verified after certain WMI events
from the firmware.
The coverage class may not be modified temporarily right after the card
re-initializes the registers. This is for example the case during scanning.

This overrides whatever regulatory the device
EEPROM contains and uses what the platform says
instead - in this implementation the ACPI driver.
In case the hint is not programmed or corrupted (0xffff)
the device falls back to the eeprom programmed settings.

When building with W=1, we got one warning as belows:

ath9k RNG will dominates all the noise sources from the real HW
RNG, disable it by default. But we strongly recommand to enable
it if the system without HW RNG, especially on embedded systems.

Firmware is running watchdog timer for tracking copy engine ring index
and write index. Whenever both indices are stuck at same location for
given duration, watchdog will be trigger to assert target. While
updating copy engine destination ring write index, driver ensures that
write index will not be same as read index by finding delta between these
two indices (CE_RING_DELTA).
HTT target to host copy engine (CE5) is special case where ring buffers
will be reused and delta check is not applied while updating write index.
In rare scenario, whenever CE5 ring is full, both indices will be referring
same location and this is causing CE ring stuck issue as explained
above. This issue is originally reported on IPQ4019 during long hour stress
testing and during veriwave max clients testsuites. The same issue is
also observed in other chips as well. Fix this by ensuring that write
index is one less than read index which means that full ring is
available for receiving data.

Ignore processing further in SWBA event scheduled for a vif, if mac80211
has marked the particular vif for stop beaconing and brought the vdev
down in 'ath10k_control_beaconing'. This should potentially avoid ath10k
warning/error messages while running continuous wifi down/up with max
number of vaps configured. Found this change during code walk through
and going through other beacon configuration related functions in ath10k

Flowrings contain skbs waiting for transmission that were passed to us
by netif. It means we checked every one of them looking for 802.1x
Ethernet type. When deleting flowring we have to use freeing function
that will check for 802.1x type as well.
Freeing skbs without a proper check was leading to counter not being
properly decreased. This was triggering a WARNING every time
brcmf_netdev_wait_pend8021x was called.

Even with timeout increased to 950 ms we get WARNINGs from time to time.
It mostly happens on A-MPDU stalls (e.g. when station goes out of
range). It may take up to 5-10 secods for the firmware to recover and
for that time it doesn't process packets.
It's still useful to have a message on time out as it may indicate some
firmware problem and incorrect key update. Raising a WARNING however
wasn't really that necessary, it doesn't point to any driver bug anymore
and backtrace wasn't much useful.

Only rtl8821ae implements WOWLAN; however, the other drivers may receive
a call requesting information about this mode. The other drivers need to
ignore the request rather than logging that the default branch of the
switch statement has been reached.

Chipset from QCA99X0 onwards (QCA99X0, QCA9984, QCA4019 & future)
rx_hdr_status is not padded to align in 4-byte boundary. Define a
new hw_params field to handle different alignment behaviour between
different hw. This patch fixes improper retrieval of rfc1042 header
with QCA4019. This patch along with "ath10k: Properly remove padding
from the start of rx payload" will fix traffic failure in ethernet
decap mode for QCA4019.
