Linus Torvalds 818e607b57 A number of improvements for the /dev/random driver; the most
important is the use of a ChaCha20-based CRNG for /dev/urandom, which
 is faster, more efficient, and easier to make scalable for
 silly/abusive userspace programs that want to read from /dev/urandom
 in a tight loop on NUMA systems.
 
 This set of patches also improves entropy gathering on VM's running on
 Microsoft Azure, and will take advantage of a hw random number
 generator (if present) to initialize the /dev/urandom pool.

Tony Camuso b07b58a3e4 ipmi: remove trydefaults parameter and default init
Parameter trydefaults=1 causes the ipmi_init to initialize ipmi through
the legacy port io space that was designated for ipmi. Architectures
that do not map legacy port io can panic when trydefaults=1.

Rather than implement build-time conditional exceptions for each
architecture that does not map legacy port io, we have removed legacy
port io from the driver.

Parameter 'trydefaults' has been removed. Attempts to use it hereafter
will evoke the "Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter" message.

The patch was built against a number of architectures and tested for
regressions and functionality on x86_64 and ARM64.

Hugh Dickins c01d5b3007 shmem: get_unmapped_area align huge page
Provide a shmem_get_unmapped_area method in file_operations, called at
mmap time to decide the mapping address.  It could be conditional on
CONFIG_TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE, but save #ifdefs in other places by making
it unconditional.

shmem_get_unmapped_area() first calls the usual mm->get_unmapped_area
(which we treat as a black box, highly dependent on architecture and
config and executable layout).  Lots of conditions, and in most cases it
just goes with the address that chose; but when our huge stars are
rightly aligned, yet that did not provide a suitable address, go back to
ask for a larger arena, within which to align the mapping suitably.

There have to be some direct calls to shmem_get_unmapped_area(), not via
the file_operations: because of the way shmem_zero_setup() is called to
create a shmem object late in the mmap sequence, when MAP_SHARED is
requested with MAP_ANONYMOUS or /dev/zero.  Though this only matters
when /proc/sys/vm/shmem_huge has been set.

Dan Carpenter 2419036411 dsp56k: prevent a harmless underflow
There is a mistake here where we don't allow "len" to be zero but we
allow negative lengths.  It's basically harmless in this case, but the
underflow makes my static checker complain.

Jiri Kosina 39380b80d7 x86/mm/pat, /dev/mem: Remove superfluous error message
Currently it's possible for broken (or malicious) userspace to flood a
kernel log indefinitely with messages a-la

	Program dmidecode tried to access /dev/mem between f0000->100000

because range_is_allowed() is case of CONFIG_STRICT_DEVMEM being turned on
dumps this information each and every time devmem_is_allowed() fails.

Reportedly userspace that is able to trigger contignuous flow of these
messages exists.

It would be possible to rate limit this message, but that'd have a
questionable value; the administrator wouldn't get information about all
the failing accessess, so then the information would be both superfluous
and incomplete at the same time :)

Returning EPERM (which is what is actually happening) is enough indication
for userspace what has happened; no need to log this particular error as
some sort of special condition.

It's harmless in that (a) only root can trigger it, and (b) after
complaining the code never does let the entropy count go negative, but
it's better to simply not allow this userspace from passing in a

Theodore Ts'o 1e7f583af6 random: make /dev/urandom scalable for silly userspace programs
On a system with a 4 socket (NUMA) system where a large number of
application threads were all trying to read from /dev/urandom, this
can result in the system spending 80% of its time contending on the
global urandom spinlock.  The application should have used its own
PRNG, but let's try to help it from running, lemming-like, straight
over the locking cliff.

Benjamin Tissoires b4f210541f i2c: add a protocol parameter to the alert callback
.alert() is meant to be generic, but there is currently no way
for the device driver to know which protocol generated the alert.
Add a parameter in .alert() to help the device driver to understand
what is given in data.

This patch is required to have the support of SMBus Host Notify protocol
through .alert().

Stephan Mueller 4b44f2d18a random: add interrupt callback to VMBus IRQ handler
The Hyper-V Linux Integration Services use the VMBus implementation for
communication with the Hypervisor. VMBus registers its own interrupt
handler that completely bypasses the common Linux interrupt handling.
This implies that the interrupt entropy collector is not triggered.

This patch adds the interrupt entropy collection callback into the VMBus
interrupt handler function.

Since systemd is consistently using /dev/urandom before it is
initialized, we can't see the other potentially dangerous users of
/dev/urandom immediately after boot.  So print the first ten such
complaints instead.

If we have a hardware RNG and are using the in-kernel rngd, we should
use this to initialize the non-blocking pool so that getrandom(2)
doesn't block unnecessarily.

Junichi Nomura ae4ea9a246 ipmi: Remove smi_msg from waiting_rcv_msgs list before handle_one_recv_msg()
Commit 7ea0ed2b5b ("ipmi: Make the message handler easier to use for
SMI interfaces") changed handle_new_recv_msgs() to call handle_one_recv_msg()
for a smi_msg while the smi_msg is still connected to waiting_rcv_msgs list.
That could lead to following list corruption problems:

1) low-level function treats smi_msg as not connected to list

  handle_one_recv_msg() could end up calling smi_send(), which
  assumes the msg is not connected to list.

  For example, the following sequence could corrupt list by
  doing list_add_tail() for the entry still connected to other list.

    handle_new_recv_msgs()
      msg = list_entry(waiting_rcv_msgs)
      handle_one_recv_msg(msg)
        handle_ipmb_get_msg_cmd(msg)
          smi_send(msg)
            spin_lock(xmit_msgs_lock)
            list_add_tail(msg)
            spin_unlock(xmit_msgs_lock)

2) race between multiple handle_new_recv_msgs() instances

  handle_new_recv_msgs() once releases waiting_rcv_msgs_lock before calling
  handle_one_recv_msg() then retakes the lock and list_del() it.

  If others call handle_new_recv_msgs() during the window shown below
  list_del() will be done twice for the same smi_msg.

Corey Minyard 70f95b76f1 ipmi: Fix the I2C address extraction from SPMI tables
Unlike everywhere else in the IPMI specification, the I2C address
specified in the SPMI table is not shifted to the left one bit with
the LSB zero.  Instead it is not shifted with the MSB zero.

Corey Minyard 57a38f1340 IPMI: reserve memio regions separately
Commit d61a3ead26 ("[PATCH] IPMI: reserve I/O ports separately")
changed the way I/O ports were reserved and includes this comment in
log:

 Some BIOSes reserve disjoint I/O regions in their ACPI tables for the IPMI
 controller.  This causes problems when trying to register the entire I/O
 region.  Therefore we must register each I/O port separately.

There is a similar problem with memio regions on an arm64 platform
(AMD Seattle). Where I see:

Geert Uytterhoeven 309124e264 char: Drop bogus dependency of DEVPORT on !M68K
According to full-history-linux commit d3794f4fa7c3edc3 ("[PATCH] M68k
update (part 25)"), port operations are allowed on m68k if CONFIG_ISA is
defined.

However, commit 153dcc54df ("[PATCH] mem driver: fix conditional
on isa i/o support") accidentally changed an "||" into an "&&",
disabling it completely on m68k. This logic was retained when
introducing the DEVPORT symbol in commit 4f911d64e0 ("Make
/dev/port conditional on config symbol").

Drop the bogus dependency on !M68K to fix this.

Arnd Bergmann 2fad622483 char/rtc: replace blacklist with whitelist
Every new architecture has to add itself to the growing list of those
that do not support the legacy PC RTC driver.

This replaces the long list of architectures that don't support it
with a shorter list of those that do.

The list is taken from those architectures that have a non-empty
asm/mc146818rtc.h header file and were not explicitly blacklisted
or select RTC_LIB.

Alpha and Loongson64 can already choose between this driver and
an rtc-class based one. mn10300 is actually the only architecture
now that still requires this driver, and that should be fairly
easy to change to use rtc-cmos if we want to kill off rtc.ko
for good.

Sudip Mukherjee bd83a4ab56 char: xillybus: use devm_add_action_or_reset
If devm_add_action() fails we are explicitly calling dma_unmap_single(),
pci_unmap_single() and kfree(). Lets use the helper
devm_add_action_or_reset() and return directly in case of error, as we
know that the cleanup function has been already called by the helper if
there was any error. At that same time remove the variable rc which
becomes unused now.

Peter Hurley d41861ca19 tty: Replace ASYNC_INITIALIZED bit and update atomically
Replace ASYNC_INITIALIZED bit in the tty_port::flags field with
TTY_PORT_INITIALIZED bit in the tty_port::iflags field. Introduce helpers
tty_port_set_initialized() and tty_port_initialized() to abstract
atomic bit ops.

Note: the transforms for test_and_set_bit() and test_and_clear_bit()
are unnecessary as the state transitions are already mutually exclusive;
the tty lock prevents concurrent open/close/hangup.

Peter Hurley 2d68655d15 tty: Replace ASYNC_CHECK_CD and update atomically
Replace ASYNC_CHECK_CD bit in the tty_port::flags field with
TTY_PORT_CHECK_CD bit in the tty_port::iflags field. Introduce helpers
tty_port_set_check_carrier() and tty_port_check_carrier() to abstract
the atomic bit ops.

Christian Lamparter 5343e674f3 crypto4xx: integrate ppc4xx-rng into crypto4xx
