Laurent Pinchart 8a20974f03 fbdev: sh_mobile_meram: Remove unneeded sh_mobile_meram.h
The drivers/video/sh_mobile_meram.h header contains unused definitions
and declarations. Move the only used macro to sh_mobile_meram.c, and
remove the header.

Laurent Pinchart d86d29df57 fbdev: sh_mobile_meram: Fix MExxCTL register save on runtime PM suspend
To reset the ICB on resume the MExxCTL register needs to be OR'ed with
MExxCTL_WBF | MExxCTL_WF | MExxCTL_RF, no set to that value. Fix this.

This fixes corruption at the bottom of the display when resuming from
runtime PM.

Laurent Pinchart 2427bb241b fbdev: sh_mobile_lcdc: Restart LCDC in runtime PM resume handler
Instead of restoring registers blindly, restart the LCDC by going
through the startup sequence when resuming from runtime PM suspend. All
registers are now correctly initialized in the right order.

As a side effect, this also gets rid fo a possible panning restore issue
caused by always saving the frame buffer base address registers from set
A instead of the currently active set.

Laurent Pinchart 505c7de51f fbdev: sh_mobile_lcdc: Compute clock pattern using divider denominator
The clock divider pattern is computed based on the dot clock register
value which stores the divider denumerator. However, when using a 1:1
divider ratio, the register is programmed with a value that must not be
interpreted as a denominator. This results in a shift left operation
with a value of 32, which produces undefined behaviour.

Compute the clock pattern using the divider denominator, not the dot
clock register value.

Florian Tobias Schandinat 5dd72f12df viafb: get rid of the remaining modetable structure assumptions
This patch removes the remaining places where assumptions about the
structure of the modetable were made. Aside from some places where
assumptions are made that certain modes are in the modetable the
only code dealing with the modetable and not just a single mode is
in viamode. This will allow chaniging the modetable and use other
sources for videomodes like the subsystem or EDID.

Florian Tobias Schandinat bfe7d5f939 viafb: eliminate modetable dependancy of LCD modesetting
This patch removes the need for knowing the modetable structure
within the LCD modesetting function. The magic 60Hz refresh rate was
already there as always the first entry for a resolution was choosen
based on the ascending refresh rate ordering in the modetable.
For all but one this is at least 60Hz, if only higher frequencies
available we choose those like the code before did. The exception is
OLPC but that resolution has only one frequency so we get the same
behaviour there as well.

Florian Tobias Schandinat 4fbf4bfe6f viafb: seperate hardware initialization
This patch splits the hardware initialization out of the modesetting
function which will make it easier to make it conditional and not
require starting from scratch for every mode change, which is
especially annoying in dual framebuffer mode.
This required some minor reordering but it should not influence its
functionality.

Florian Tobias Schandinat ebb29fb47e viafb: use information in var for modesetting
This patch starts to use the information in var for modesetting for
CRT and DVI devices. This is the right thing as it allows us to use
more generic modes than the ones predefined by VIA. We do not yet
allow more generic modes as check_var still limits them to the
predefined ones but with this patch applied it would be really easy
to do so. A problem was VIAs SAMM mode as it has 2 different modes
but just one frame buffer device. This is solved by creating a
pseudo var which contains enough information to use it for
modesetting. Hopefully one day we can use information in var for all
modes that do not involve hardware scaling.
Well I'd like to say that the chance of regressions is low but it is
quite likely that the behaviour in some cases changed especially
when SAMM is involved. I hope we made it better than before in
particular the DVI frequency check was probably broken before and
hopefully works better now.

Florian Tobias Schandinat 94715ba975 viafb: add new funcions to select a single mode
This patch introduces 2 new functions for selecting a single mode
based on hres, vres and refresh rate and changes some uses to use
those. The advantage is that it is less error prone than doing the
selection based on refresh rate everywhere and allows replacing the
modetable structure. This includes a little change that users may
notice: If a refresh rate was given as module parameters but does
not exist in the modetable prior to this patch a refresh rate of 60
was assumed and after this patch the closest supported refresh rate
to the one provided by the user is used.

Florian Tobias Schandinat 0492262281 viafb: remove 640x480-60 CRT special case
The timing for 640x480-60 was handled different than all others.
This patch changes this by changing the blanking start and end.
The reason for this is that I can't find any reason for the old
behaviour and it was not consistent anyway as the special case for
LCD did not always trigger as the LCD code does not use this
function and it did trigger regardless of whether the display set is
CRT or LCD but only based whether any DVI/LCD device exists.
There are no negative effects observed for CRT or DVI devices.

dispc.c enables and disables clocks in almost every function to make

Tomi Valkeinen 5ed8cf5b8e OMAP: DSS2: Fix FIFO threshold and burst size for OMAP4
The DMA FIFO threshold registers and burst size registers have changed
for OMAP4. The current code only handles OMAP2/3 case, and so the
values are a bit off for OMAP4. A summary of the differences between
OMAP2/3 and OMAP4:

Burst size:
OMAP2/3: 4 x 32 bits / 8 x 32 bits / 16 x 32 bits
OMAP4: 2 x 128 bits / 4 x 128 bits / 8 x 128 bits

Threshold size:
OMAP2/3: in bytes (8 bit units)
OMAP4: in 128bit units

This patch fixes the issue by creating two new helper functions in
dss_features: dss_feat_get_buffer_size_unit() and
dss_feat_get_burst_size_unit(). These return (in bytes) the unit size
for threshold registers and unit size for burst size register,
respectively, and are used to calculate correct values.

For the threshold size the usage is straightforward. However, the burst
size register has different multipliers for OMAP2/3 and OMAP4. This
patch solves the problem by defining the multipliers for the burst size
as 2x, 4x and 8x, which fit fine for the OMAP4 burst size definition
(i.e. burst size unit for OMAP4 is 128bits), but requires a slight twist
on OMAP2/3 by defining the burst size unit as 64bit.

As the driver in practice always uses the maximum burst size, and no use
case currently exists where we would want to use a smaller burst size,
this patch changes the driver to hardcode the burst size when
initializing DISPC. This makes the threshold configuration code somewhat
simpler.

Timur Tabi 39785eb1d3 fsl-diu-fb: remove check for pixel clock ranges
The Freescale DIU framebuffer driver defines two constants, MIN_PIX_CLK and
MAX_PIX_CLK, that are supposed to represent the lower and upper limits of
the pixel clock. These values, however, are true only for one platform
clock rate (533MHz) and only for the MPC8610. So the actual range for
the pixel clock is chip-specific, which means the current values are almost
always wrong. The chance of an out-of-range pixel clock being used are also
remote.

Rather than try to detect an out-of-range clock in the DIU driver, we depend
on the board-specific pixel clock function (e.g. p1022ds_set_pixel_clock)
to clamp the pixel clock to a supported value.

William Katsak 9377c51752 udlfb: Correct sub-optimal resolution selection.
The situation in which the problem occurred was with a Plugable UGA-2K-A
connected to a Samsung EX2220X display. The driver indicates that
1920x1080 is a valid mode (the first mode available, in fact), but
proceeds to set the framebuffer size to 1600x1200.

The patch corrects what seems to be a logic error, regarding unsetting
the FB_MISC_1ST_DETAIL flag, if the first (top/best) mode is invalid.
The existing code unset the flag if ANY mode was invalid.

have deleted my email address from C files rather than change it. This
was suggested by several people, since the commit from my new email

have not added the .mailmap entry as suggested by Joe because I think
it is no longer necessary if I touch all the files which had my name

Guennadi Liakhovetski d521dd944e fbdev: sh_mobile_hdmi: fix regression: statically enable RTPM
A recent modification to the runtime PM code on mach-shmobile made a wrong
RTPM implementation in the sh_mobile_hdmi driver apparent, which broke
HDMI hotplug detection support on ap4evb. This patch does not implement a
proper dynamic RTPM support for sh_mobile_hdmi, instead it restores the
previous working state by statically enabling it. A more power-efficient
solution should be implemented for the next kernel version.

Jingoo Han 13e6af8886 video: s3c-fb: fix virtual resolution checking
This patch fixes mishandling in virtual resolution checking.
Previously, virtual resolution is changed to virtual_x and virtual_y
which mean the size for buffer allocation, when s3c_fb_check_var is
called by fb_check_var. However, it is meaningless, since virtual_x
and virtual_y are fixed and user cannot change virtual resolution.
Therefore, virtual resolution should be more than resolution
such as xres and yres.

Amber Jain 0d66cbb53e OMAP: DSS2: Add support for NV12 format
Add the support for NV12 color format.
Configure base address for UV component of NV12 color format.
Change the way chroma scaling is handled for YUV formats on OMAP4 by enabling
chroma-resampling for video pipeline and hence using FIR2 register set for
scaling UV.
Changes to _dispc_set_scaling(), because of the reason above, are:
- call _dispc_set_scaling_common() to handle scaling for all color formats
except for OMAP4 where it only handles scaling for RGB or Y-component
- call _dispc_set_scaling_uv() for special handling required for UV
  component on OMAP4.
- dispc_set_scaling_uv() also resets chroma-resampling bit for RGB color modes.

Amber Jain ab5ca071e2 OMAP: DSS2: Add new registers for NV12 support
Add new registers specific to UV color component that are introduced in OMAP4.
Add simple helper functions to configure the newly added registers.
These new registers are mainly:
- UV base address registers used specifically for NV12 color-format
- FIR registers used for UV-color-component scaling on OMAP4
- Accumulator registers used for UV-color-component scaling
Add these new registers to save/restore and DUMPREG functions.
Also add two new features for OMAP4:
- FEAT_HANDLE_UV_SEPARATE - this is used on OMAP4 as UV color-component requires
  separate handling.
- FEAT_ATTR2 - this is used on OMAP4 to configure new ATTRIBUTES2 register.

FIR values can never be zero as per TRM, and the current code writes zero
when scaling is not used. It was not causing any problem as scaling was
disabled when zero was written. Its still safer to not write zero to

Now we configure correct FIR values even when scaling is not used (i.e. set FIR

Linus Torvalds 268bb0ce3e sanitize <linux/prefetch.h> usage
Commit e66eed651f ("list: remove prefetching from regular list
iterators") removed the include of prefetch.h from list.h, which
uncovered several cases that had apparently relied on that rather
obscure header file dependency.

So this fixes things up a bit, using

   grep -L linux/prefetch.h $(git grep -l '[^a-z_]prefetchw*(' -- '*.[ch]')
   grep -L 'prefetchw*(' $(git grep -l 'linux/prefetch.h' -- '*.[ch]')

to guide us in finding files that either need <linux/prefetch.h>
inclusion, or have it despite not needing it.

There are more of them around (mostly network drivers), but this gets
many core ones.

In the previous DSI driver design, a private workqueue was needed to prevent a
deadlock as explained in the commit : 0f16aa0ae6

the case where we don't get a FRAMEDONE interrupt for 250 milliseconds. It is
safe to remove the private workqueue amd use the system workqueue instead to
schedule the delayed work with the new design where the deadlock can't occur.

Bruno Prémont c590cece75 Further fbcon sanity checking
This moves the

    if (num_registered_fb == FB_MAX)
            return -ENXIO;

check _AFTER_ the call to do_remove_conflicting_framebuffers() as this
would (now in a safe way) allow a native driver to replace the
conflicting one even if all slots in registered_fb[] are taken.

This also prevents unregistering a framebuffer that is no longer
registered (vga16f will unregister at module unload time even if the
frame buffer had been unregistered earlier due to being found
conflicting).

Linus Torvalds 712f3147ae fbmem: fix remove_conflicting_framebuffers races
When a register_framebuffer() call results in us removing old
conflicting framebuffers, the new registration_lock doesn't protect that
situation. And we can't just add the same locking to the function,
because these functions call each other: register_framebuffer() calls
remove_conflicting_framebuffers, which in turn calls
unregister_framebuffer for any conflicting entry.

In order to fix it, this just creates wrapper functions around all three
functions and makes the versions that actually do the work be called
"do_xxx()", leaving just the wrapper that gets the lock and calls the
worker function.

So the rule becomes simply that "do_xxxx()" has to be called with the
lock held, and now do_register_framebuffer() can just call
do_remove_conflicting_framebuffers(), and that in turn can call
_do_unregister_framebuffer(), and there is no deadlock, and we can hold
the registration lock over the whole sequence, fixing the races.

It also makes error cases simpler, and fixes one situation where we
would return from unregister_framebuffer() without releasing the lock,
pointed out by Bruno Prémont.

Archit Taneja a72b64b999 OMAP: DSS2: Pass platform_device as an argument in dsi functions
The DSI interface is represented as a platform device, using the DSI platform
driver(dsi.c). The current DSI driver design is capable of running only one
instance of a DSI device. On OMAP4, there are 2 very similar DSI modules which
can be represented as instances of "omapdss_dsi" platform device.

Add member "module" in "dssdev.phy.dsi" that tells us which DSI module's lanes
the panel is connected to. Modify dsi.c functions to take the device's
platform_device struct pointer, provide functions dsi_get_dsidev_from_dssdev()
and dsi_get_dsidev_from_id() take the panel's omap_dss_device and module number
respectively, and return the platform_device pointer. Currently, the dsi struct
is declared globally and is accessed when dsi data is needed. The new pdev
argument will be used later to provide the platform device's dsi related data.

Linus Torvalds c47747fde9 fbmem: make read/write/ioctl use the frame buffer at open time
read/write/ioctl on a fbcon file descriptor has traditionally used the
fbcon not when it was opened, but as it was at the time of the call.
That makes no sense, but the lack of sense is much more obvious now that
we properly ref-count the usage - it means that the ref-counting doesn't
actually protect operations we do on the frame buffer.

This changes it to look at the fb_info that we got at open time, but in
order to avoid using a frame buffer long after it has been unregistered,
we do verify that it is still current, and return -ENODEV if not.

Linus Torvalds 698b368275 fbcon: add lifetime refcount to opened frame buffers
This just adds the refcount and the new registration lock logic. It
does not (for example) actually change the read/write/ioctl routines to
actually use the frame buffer that was opened: those function still end
up alway susing whatever the current frame buffer is at the time of the
call.

Without this, if something holds the frame buffer open over a
framebuffer switch, the close() operation after the switch will access a
fb_info that has been free'd by the unregistering of the old frame
buffer.

(The read/write/ioctl operations will normally not cause problems,
because they will - illogically - pick up the new fbcon instead. But a
switch that happens just as one of those is going on might see problems
too, the window is just much smaller: one individual op rather than the
whole open-close sequence.)

This use-after-free is apparently fairly easily triggered by the Ubuntu
11.04 boot sequence.
