Study of Apple's binary driver revealed that the GMUX_READ_PORT should
be written between calls to gmux_index_wait_ready and
gmux_index_wait_complete (i.e., the new index protocol must be
followed). If this is not done correctly, the indexed
gmux device only partially accepts writes which lead to problems
concerning GPU switching. Special thanks to Seth Forshee who helped
greatly with identifying unnecessary changes.

In the latest V-series bios DMI_PRODUCT_VERSION does not contain
the string Lenovo or Thinkpad, but is set to the model number, this
causes the thinkpad_acpi module to fail to load. Recognize laptop
as Lenovo using DMI_BIOS_VENDOR instead, which is set to Lenovo.

If the user bit is set, that mean BIOS can't set and record the wlan
status, it will report the value read from id ASUS_WMI_DEVID_WLAN_LED
(0x00010012) while we query the wlan status by id ASUS_WMI_DEVID_WLAN
(0x00010011) through WMI.
So, we have to record wlan status in id ASUS_WMI_DEVID_WLAN_LED
(0x00010012) while setting the wlan status through WMI.
This is also the behavior that windows app will do.

Convert delayed_work users doing cancel_delayed_work() followed by
queue_delayed_work() to mod_delayed_work().
Most conversions are straight-forward. Ones worth mentioning are,
* drivers/edac/edac_mc.c: edac_mc_workq_setup() converted to always
use mod_delayed_work() and cancel loop in
edac_mc_reset_delay_period() is dropped.
* drivers/platform/x86/thinkpad_acpi.c: No need to remember whether
watchdog is active or not. @fan_watchdog_active and related code
dropped.
* drivers/power/charger-manager.c: Seemingly a lot of
delayed_work_pending() abuse going on here.
[delayed_]work_pending() are unsynchronized and racy when used like
this. I converted one instance in fullbatt_handler(). Please
conver the rest so that it invokes workqueue APIs for the intended
target state rather than trying to game work item pending state
transitions. e.g. if timer should be modified - call
mod_delayed_work(), canceled - call cancel_delayed_work[_sync]().
* drivers/thermal/thermal_sys.c: thermal_zone_device_set_polling()
simplified. Note that round_jiffies() calls in this function are
meaningless. round_jiffies() work on absolute jiffies not delta
delay used by delayed_work.
v2: Tomi pointed out that __cancel_delayed_work() users can't be
safely converted to mod_delayed_work(). They could be calling it
from irq context and if that happens while delayed_work_timer_fn()
is running, it could deadlock. __cancel_delayed_work() users are
dropped.

According to compiler warnings, quite some suspend/resume functions
in platform x86 drivers are not used for CONFIG_PM_SLEEP unset, so
add #ifdefs to prevent them from being built in that case.

There's nothing about the debugfs interface for the EC driver that is
architecture-specific, so move it into the arch-independent driver.
The code is mostly unchanged with the exception of renamed variables, coding
style changes, and API updates.

This uses the new EC driver framework in drivers/platform/olpc. The
XO-1 and XO-1.5-specific code is still in arch/x86, but the generic stuff
(including a new workqueue; no more running EC commands with IRQs disabled!)
can be shared with other architectures.

A problem we've noticed on XO-1.75 is when we suspend in the middle of
an EC command. Don't allow that.
In the process, create a private object for the generic EC driver to use;
we have a framework for passing around a struct, use that rather than a
proliferation of global variables.

The 1.75-based OLPC EC driver already does this; let's do it for all EC
drivers. This gives us nice suspend/resume hooks, amongst other things.
We want to run the EC's suspend hooks later than other drivers (which may
be setting wakeup masks or be running EC commands). We also want to run
the EC's resume hooks earlier than other drivers (which may want to run EC
commands).

This provides a new API allows different OLPC architectures to override the
EC driver. x86 and ARM OLPC machines use completely different EC backends.
The olpc_ec_cmd is synchronous, and waits for the workqueue to send the
command to the EC. Multiple callers can run olpc_ec_cmd() at once, and
they will by serialized and sleep while only one executes on the EC at a time.
We don't provide an unregister function, as that doesn't make sense within
the context of OLPC machines - there's only ever 1 EC, it's critical to
functionality, and it certainly not hotpluggable.

The OLPC EC driver has outgrown arch/x86/platform/. It's time to both
share common code amongst different architectures, as well as move it out
of arch/x86/. The XO-1.75 is ARM-based, and the EC driver shares a lot of
code with the x86 code.

There are some new video switch keys that used by newer machines.
0xA0 - SDSP HDMI only
0xA1 - SDSP LCD + HDMI
0xA2 - SDSP CRT + HDMI
0xA3 - SDSP TV + HDMI
But in Linux, there is no suitable userspace application to handle this,
so, mapping them all to KEY_SWITCHVIDEOMODE.

The BIOS of these machines will try to enable/disable wifi/bt in
their own sqeuence. It won't read the enable/disable parameter
in WMI command, but just iterates the wifi/bt's status described below
1st. enable wifi, enable bt
2nd. disable wifi, enable bt
3rd. enable wifi, disable bt
4th. disable wifi, disable bt
That will totally mess up the rfkill status, since we will try to read
wifi and bt's status and reset it again while booting up.
To avoid this, these machines should set the wapf value to 4,
that will let software totally control the wifi/bt's status and
BIOS will do nothing instead of sending out the 0x88(KEY_RFKILL) event
instead of 0x5e(wifi enable), 0x5f(wifi diable), 0x7d(bt enable), and
0x7e(bt disable) through WMI.
With this patch[1], it will handle the KEY_RFKILL event correctly and
will block/unblock wifi and bt together.

Since ACPI devices ids were changed to use always upper-case letters, the ACPI
id of the extra keys (FNBT0000) was not maching the one defined in the driver
(FnBT0000), causing the extra keys not to work.
The patch replaces the driver id with the one reported by ACPI, fixing the
problem.

According to the ASUS WMI spec., to enable resume on lid open should
use the device ID(0x00120032), but it doesn't work indeed.
After discussing with ASUS' BIOS engineer, they say wake on lid open
doesn't have a uniq device ID(0x00120032) in the BIOS. It shares the same
device ID with deep S3(0x00120031), and the deep S3(resume on lid open)
is disable by default.
Adding this option in asus wmi sysfs
/sys/devices/platform/<platform>/lid_resume
so that userspace apps can enable/disable this feature by themselves.

According to responses from the BIOS team, ASUS_WMI_METHODID_DSTS2
(0x53545344) will be used as future DSTS ID. In addition, calling
asus_wmi_evaluate_method(ASUS_WMI_METHODID_DSTS2, 0, 0, NULL) returns
ASUS_WMI_UNSUPPORTED_METHOD in new ASUS laptop PCs. This patch fixes
no DSTS ID will be assigned in this case.

Some of the thermal drivers using the Generic Thermal Framework
require (all/some) trip points to be writeable. This patch makes
the trip point temperatures writeable on a per-trip point basis,
and modifies the required function call in thermal.c. This patch

None of the drivers implementing the ACPI device suspend callback
uses the pm_message_t argument of it, so this argument may be dropped
entirely from that callback. This will simplify switching the ACPI
bus type to PM handling based on struct dev_pm_ops.

intel_ips driver spews the warning message
"ME failed to update for more than 1s, likely hung"
at each second endlessly on HP ProBook laptops with IronLake.
As this has never worked, better to blacklist the driver for now.

We made this an unsigned long and it causes a bug on 64 bit big endian
systems when we try to pass the value to sony_nc_int_call().
Also value has to be signed because validate() returns negative error
codes.

I incorporated the wrong version of the suspend/resume patch for gmux,
and so lost David Woodhouse's fix to leave the backlight level unchanged
over suspend/resume. This fixes it up to v2.

The interface just doesn't work on some machines, and Dell haven't been
able to tell us either which machines those are or what we should be
doing instead. This would be fine, except it results in userspace ending
up confused and general sadness. So let's just rip it out for now.

Acer Extensa 5235, TravelMate 5760 and Aspire 5750 laptop have broken _BCM
implemenation, the AML code wrote value to EC register but firmware didn't
change brighenss.
Fortunately, the brightness control works on those machines with vendor mode.
So, add this machine to video backlight vendor mode quirk table.

Loop through the list of SNC handles and run the proper initialization
function for each of the known handles. Also return void in function
where we are not checking the return value anyway.
For notifications we also know which handle is linked to the event and
the code becomes simpler to read with a switch rather than using
convoluted ifs.

All calls into the SNC device methods have zero or one arguments and
return an integer or a buffer (some functions go as far as returning an
integer _or_ a buffer depending on the input parameter...).
This allows simplifying a couple of code paths and prepares the field
for other users of functions returning buffers.

leaves it available after reboot. Use it and always set the last soft

Some Toshiba laptops have the transflective LCD and toshset
can control its backlight state. I brought this feature to the
mainline. To support transflective LCD, it's implemented by
adding an extra level to the backlight and having 0 change to
transflective mode. It was tested on a Toshiba Portege R500.

Currently the backlight device is registered unconditionally, but many
(probably most) Toshibas either don't support HCI_LCD_BRIGHTNESS or only
support reading from it. This patch adds a test of HCI_LCD_BRIGHTNESS
during initialization and only registers the backlight device if this
interface supports both reads and writes.

The tp_features.bright_acpimode will not be set correctly for brightness
control because ACPI_VIDEO_HID will not be located in ACPI. As a result,
a duplicated key event will always be sent. acpi_video_backlight_support()
is sufficient to detect standard ACPI brightness control.

The XO-1 rfkill driver should only send EC commands when changing
between blocked/unblocked state.
The rfkill switch is asked to be unblocked on every resume (even when
the card was never blocked before) and sending a EC_WLAN_LEAVE_RESET
command here upsets the resume sequence of the libertas driver. Adding
the check to avoid the spurious EC_WLAN_LEAVE_RESET fixes the wifi resume
behaviour.
The rfkill state is maintained by the hardware over suspend/resume
so no extra consideration is needed here.

This patch adds a quirk to fix the dock detection for Fujitsu Stylistic
devices and fixes an bug in which tablet mode state was not correctly

As long as there is no other non-const variable marked __initdata in the
same compilation unit it doesn't hurt. If there were one however
compilation would fail with
error: $variablename causes a section type conflict
because a section containing const variables is marked read only and so
cannot contain non-const variables.

Due to new supported hardware, of which the actual temperature limits of
processor, harddisk and other components are unknown, it feels safer with
lower fanon / fanoff settings.
It won't change much for most people, already using acerhdf, as they use
their own fanon/fanoff variable settings when loading the module.
Furthermore seems like kernel and userspace tools have been improved to
work more efficient and netbooks don't get so hot anymore.

On a system on the thermal limit these are quite noisy and flood the logs.
Better would be a counter anyways. But given that we don't even have

There have some acer laptop have broken _BCM implemenation, the AML
code wrote value to EC register but firmware didn't change brighenss.
Fortunately, the brightness control works on those machines with
vendor mode. So, add quirk table for video backlight vendor mode
and unregister acpi video interface on those machines.

In drivers/platform/x86/amilo-rfkill.c::amilo_rfkill_probe() the call
to dmi_first_match() may fail and return NULL. If it does return NULL,
then we'll be dereferencing a NULL pointer in the rfkill_alloc() call
where we do 'system_id->driver_data' --> KABOOM!
Avoid that problem by testing for a NULL return value from
dmi_first_match() and bailing out if it fails.
I was a bit uncertain about what to return in the failure case. In the
end I settled for -ENXIO as the most logical error to return.

On these laptops, the ACPI video is not functional, and very unlikely
to be fixed by the vendor. Note that intel_backlight works for some
of these laptops, and the backlight from samsung-laptop always work.
The good news is that newer laptops have functional ACPI video device
and won't end up growing this list.

Due to some implementation reasons, ASUS ET2012 All-in-One machines
can't report the correct backlight power status, it will always return
1. To track the backlight power status correctly, we have to store the
status by ourselves.
BTW, by the BIOS design, the backlight power will be turn on/off
sequently, no matter what the value of the parameter will be.
More over, the brightness adjustment command will turn on the backlight
power. Those behaviors will make us fail to track the backlight power
status.
For example, While we are trying to turn on the backlight power,
we will send out the brightness adjustment command and then trying to
figure out if we have to turn on the backlight power, then send out
the command. But, the real case is that, the backlight power turns on
while sending the brightness adjustment command, and then we send out
the command to turn on the backlight power, it actually will turn off
the backlight power and the backlight power status we recorded becomes
wrong. So, we have to seperate these two commands by a if statement.

Some ASUS ET2012E/I All-in-One machines that use a scalar board
to control the brightness, and they only accept brightness up and down
command. So, I introduced a get_scalar_command() function to pass the
command to the scalar board through WMI.
Besides, we have to store the brightness value locally, for we need the
old value to know the brightness value is increasing or decreasing.
BTW, since there is no way to retrieve the actual brightness(it would be
a fixed value), and the max brightness value would be fixed to 1, so we
have to keep passing the brightness up/down command when we reached the
max brightness value or 0.

The input parameter of set device status is different with get device
status. There have volume value element for set status but don't need
for get action.
On Acer TravelMate 4750 creates field on volume value element even
doesn't use it in DSDT. So, add this patch for separate input paramter
between set device status with get status.

Currently we set a fixed hot key number to 0x01 for communction button,
but, actually, the key number is different on each acer laptop and it was
reported by SMBIOS.
So, add this patch to get the communication hot key number from Acer
OEM-specific SMBIOS Type AA.

Apple laptops with hybrid graphics have a device named gmux that
controls the muxing of the LVDS panel between the GPUs as well as screen
brightness. This driver adds support for the gmux device. Only backlight
control is supported initially.

There are two types of problems that prevent hotkeys from working
on many of the machines supported by toshiba_acpi. The first of
these is the lack of a functioning SCI for hotkey events. For these
machines it is possible to filter the Fn keypresses from the
keyboard and generate a notification by executing the ACPI NTFY
method.
The second problem is a lack of support for HCI_SYSTEM_EVENT, which
is used for reading the hotkey scancodes. On these machines the
scancodes can be read by executing the ACPI NTFY method.
This patch fixes both problems by installing an i8042 filter when
the NTFY method is present to generate notifications and by
detecting which of INFO or HCI_SYSTEM_EVENT is supported for
reading scancodes. If neither method of reading scancodes is
supported, the hotkey input device is not registered.

In the 2.6.36 kernel we did not have the MSIC driver. Changed
all ipc_scu_reads/writes to use the MSIC driver and defines.
Added a fix from the 2.6.36 kernel where the SCU FW could send
a power button interrupt to the IA32 FW and the kernel was not
running yet. This resulted in the interrupt not getting cleared
and the power button was ignored. this fix just clears the
interrupt on start-up.

Touchpad LED will not turn on after S3, it will make the touchpad status
doesn't consist with the LED.

Instead of complaining that the voltage is on, we can just ask the MSIC to
turn the voltage off. This should save some power.
Voltage for thermistors is turned on when ADC conversion is initiated.

asus_acpi only support old models, it has been deprecated since
2009 in favor of asus-laptop, it's not built by any (sane) distro,
so it is time to say good bye.
Thanks to Julien Lerouge and Karol Kozimor for the work they have
done on it, I would never have wrote asus-laptop and other asus
related drivers without asus_acpi.

Let the user tells if BLED and WLED should be exposed as led or
rfkill (the old sysfs are still here, but this adds a standard
interface to control the device).
For example on my A6JC, with WAPF=1, I would do:
$ modprobe asus-laptop wled_type=led bluetooth_type=rfkill
There is still no known way to automatically guess what BLED
and WLED methods will control, it's why user information is needed.
A userspace database could do that automatically, and maybe some DMI
matching in the driver.

This enable the driver for everything that look like
a laptop and is from vendor "SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.".
Note that laptop supported by samsung-q10 seem to have a different
vendor strict.
Also remove every log output until we know that we have a SABI interface
(except if the driver is forced to load, or debug is enabled).
Keeping a whitelist of laptop with a model granularity is something that can't
work without close vendor cooperation (and we don't have that).

The wireless status get and get commands seems to use one
byte per device. First byte is for wlan and third is for bluetooh,
we will have to find what the other are for.

modifying the driver at all. For example, setting
the keyboard backlight brightness to 5 using debugfs
interface can be done like that:

samsung-laptop is not at all related to ACPI, but since this interface
is not documented at all, and the driver has to use it at load to
understand how it works on the laptop, I think it's a good idea to
disable it if a better solution is available.

Fix scancodes returned by driver to match scancodes used to remap keys.
(Before the patch FN/E returned scancode 0x1B, but to remap scancode
0x14 had to be used).
The scancodes returned by the sony-laptop driver for function keys did not
match the scancodes used to remap keys. Also, since the scancode was sent
to the input subsystem after the mapped keysym the /lib/udev/keymap
utility was confused about which scancode to report for which keysym.
This patch fixes the driver so the correct scancode is shown for each
key. It also adds to the documentation a description of where to find
the scancodes.

When the keyboard backlight support was originally added, the commit said
to default it to on with a 10 second timeout. That actually wasn't the
case, as the default value is commented out for the kbd_backlight parameter.
Because it is a static variable, it gets set to 0 by default without some
other form of initialization.
However, it seems the function to set the value wasn't actually called
immediately, so whatever state the keyboard was in initially would remain.
Then commit df410d5224 was introduced during the 2.6.39 timeframe to
immediately set whatever value was present (as well as attempt to
restore/reset the state on module removal or resume). That seems to have
now forced the light off immediately when the module is loaded unless
the option kbd_backlight=1 is specified.
Let's enable it by default again (for the first time). This should solve
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=728478

num_sifr could go negative since acpi_pcc_get_sqty() returns -EINVAL
on error. Then it could bypass the sanity check (num_sifr > 255).
The subsequent call to kzalloc() would allocate a small buffer, leading
to a memory corruption.

We have several reports which says acer-wmi is loaded on ideapads
and register rfkill for wifi which can not be unblocked.
Since ideapad-laptop also register rfkill for wifi and it works
reliably, it will be fine acer-wmi is not going to register rfkill
for wifi once VPC2004 is found.
Also put IBM0068/LEN0068 in the list. Though thinkpad_acpi has no
wifi rfkill capability, there are reports which says acer-wmi also
block wireless on Thinkpad E520/E420.

This patch adds support for some of the devices within a wide variety
of Fujitsu Tablet Computers, both convertibles and slates. Primarily
it allows for the automatic detection of the tablet/notebook mode for
convertible tablet pc's, and orientation for docked slates. It also
adds support for the application panel buttons usually found next to
the tablet screen, and docking station detection for slates.

An rfkill driver based on the fsaa1655g and fsam7440 drivers for
Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A1655 and M7440 models found at:

This provides unified readq()/writeq() helper functions for 32-bit
drivers.
For some cases, readq/writeq without atomicity is harmful, and order of
io access has to be specified explicitly. So in this patch, new two
header files which contain non-atomic readq/writeq are added.
- <asm-generic/io-64-nonatomic-lo-hi.h> provides non-atomic readq/
writeq with the order of lower address -> higher address
- <asm-generic/io-64-nonatomic-hi-lo.h> provides non-atomic readq/
writeq with reversed order
This allows us to remove some readq()s that were added drivers when the
default non-atomic ones were removed in commit dbee8a0aff ("x86:
remove 32-bit versions of readq()/writeq()")
The drivers which need readq/writeq but can do with the non-atomic ones
must add the line:
#include <asm-generic/io-64-nonatomic-lo-hi.h> /* or hi-lo.h */
But this will be nop in 64-bit environments, and no other #ifdefs are
required. So I believe that this patch can solve the problem of
1. driver-specific readq/writeq
2. atomicity and order of io access
This patch is tested with building allyesconfig and allmodconfig as
ARCH=x86 and ARCH=i386 on top of tip/master.

module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In
fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy
trick.
It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. For this version
it'll simply give a warning, but it'll break next kernel version.

This resolves the conflict in the arch/arm/mach-s3c64xx/s3c6400.c file,
and it fixes the build error in the arch/x86/kernel/microcode_core.c
file, that the merge did not catch.
The microcode_core.c patch was provided by Stephen Rothwell
<sfr@canb.auug.org.au> who was invaluable in the merge issues involved
with the large sysdev removal process in the driver-core tree.

The sysdev.h file should not be needed by any in-kernel code, so remove
the .h file from these random files that seem to still want to include
it.
The sysdev code will be going away soon, so this include needs to be
removed no matter what.

The Satellite C670-10V generates notifications for hotkeys but does
not support HCI_SYSTEM_EVENT. As a result when a hotkey is pressed
it gets stuck in an infinite loop in toshiba_acpi_notify. To fix
this, detect whether or not HCI_SYSTEM_EVENT is supported up-front
and don't try to read system events if it isn't supported. In
addition, limit the number of retries when reading HCI_SYSTEM_EVENT
fails so that this loop cannot run unbounded.

Writeback and thinkpad_acpi have been using thaw_process() to prevent
deadlock between the freezer and kthread_stop(); unfortunately, this
is inherently racy - nothing prevents freezing from happening between
thaw_process() and kthread_stop().
This patch implements kthread_freezable_should_stop() which enters
refrigerator if necessary but is guaranteed to return if
kthread_stop() is invoked. Both thaw_process() users are converted to
use the new function.
Note that this deadlock condition exists for many of freezable
kthreads. They need to be converted to use the new should_stop or
freezable workqueue.
Tested with synthetic test case.

>From my POV, it looks like the hardware is not working as expected
and returns a bogus data rate. The driver doesn't check the result
and directly uses it as some sort of divisor in some places:
msleep(lis3->pwron_delay / lis3lv02d_get_odr());
Under this circumstances, this could very well cause the
"divide by zero" exception from above.
For now, I fixed it the easiest and most obvious way:
Check if the result is sane and if it isn't use a sane default
instead. I went for "100" in the latter case, simply because
/sys/devices/platform/lis3lv02d/rate returns it on a successful
boot.

Before set communication devices state, we need query out all devices state to set
the states bitmap. That will be better use the devices bitmap in SMBIOS type Aah
instead of hardcode in driver.

That will be better to check the existence of internal wireless device
when we set wireless capability and generate killswitch for it. It can
avoid userland access wireless rfkill but the machine doesn't have internal
wireless device.

There have new acer notebooks' BIOS provide new WMID_GUID3 and
ACERWMID_EVENT_GUID methods.
Some of machines still keep the old WMID_GUID1 method but more and
more machines were already removed old wmi methods from DSDT.
So, this patch add a new ACER_WMID_v2 interface flag to represent
new acer notebooks, the following is definition:
+ ACER_WMID:
It means this machine only provides WMID_GUID1/2 methods.
+ ACER_WMID_v2:
It means this machine provide new WMID_GUID3 and WMID_EVENT_GUID
methods.
Some ACER_WMID_v2 machines also provide old WMID_GUID1/2 methods,
but we still query/set communication device's state by new
WMID_GUID3 method.

Since commit [e58aa3d2: genirq: Run irq handlers with interrupts disabled],
We run all interrupt handlers with interrupts disabled
and we even check and yell when an interrupt handler
returns with interrupts enabled (see commit [b738a50a:
genirq: Warn when handler enables interrupts]).
So now this flag is a NOOP and can be removed.

Add three new rfkill switches in this driver that are specific to
Pegatron Lucid tablet.
Please note that you might not need all three switches. For example if
you don't have a 3G module inside your tablet.
Also, on my device, the gpio for the wifi/bt module is connected to the
bluetooth line. Therefore to activate your wireless lan interface, you
need to use the "pega-bt" rfkill switch.
Finally, the rfkill switch only works before the wireless module is
loaded the first time. Unloading ath9k doesn't help, a reboot is
necessary.

Novo key is the Lenovo define key on every ideapads, which has two
definition. Long press and short click. Driver will report
KEY_PROG1 on short click and KEY_PROG2 when long press.
On pre-install OS for ideapads there are application waiting for
the event and there is no such application for Linux yet, so I
think to report KEY_PROG is fine in anyway.
Also change the scancode from hex to decimal because they are
related to vpc bit in notify function which is in decimal.

There will be better to check the wireless capability flag
(ACER_CAP_WIRELESS) before register wireless rfkill because maybe
the machine doesn't have wifi module or the module removed by user.

This patch depends on the "Platform: Brightness quirk for samsung
laptop driver" patch from Jason Stubbs. This patch adds a check for an
initial brightness level of 0; if the level is 0, this patch changes
the brightness level to 1 before the driver attempts to detect the
brightness quirk.
The Samsung N150 netbook experiences the brightness quirk. Without
Jason's patch, the only brightness levels available on the N150 are 0,
1, and 8. This patch ensures that, when the initial brightness level
is 0, the samsang-laptop driver detects the brightness quirk on the
N150, thereby making brightness levels 0 through 8 available.

This patch supports Dell laptop with Synaptics and Alps touchpad chip
that with LED to indicate the functionality of touchpad is disabled or
enabled.
The command for touchpad LED is 0x97, and the data 1 means turn on the
touchpad LED, 2 means turn it off.
BTW, I add dell_quirks to white list those machines that supports this
behavior, so that the code won't affect those who don't have a touchpad LED
machine.
We can easily to turn it on/off by
echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/dell-laptop::touchpad/brightness
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/dell-laptop::touchpad/brightness

Event 0x82 is emitted whenever a backlight event happens (brightness
change, backlight on/off). For instance, when display is switched
off after a timeout, event 0x82 is emitted, and along with it a keypress
which switches the display back on again.
This patch adds 0x82 to the event ignore list so that the display stays
off when it is automatically switched off.

Some Toshiba models, notably those with the TOS1900 device, use
the SPFC method for HCI calls instead of GHCI. Test for this method
if GHCI isn't found, and if it exists use it for all HCI calls.

On some Samsung laptops the brightness regulation works slightly different.
All SABI commands except for set_brightness work as expected. The behaviour
of set_brightness is as follows:
- Setting a new brightness will only step one level toward the new brightness
level. For example, setting a level of 5 when the current level is 2 will
result in a brightness level of 3.
- A spurious KEY_BRIGHTNESS_UP or KEY_BRIGHTNESS_DOWN event is also generated
along with the change in brightness.
- Neither of the above two issues occur when changing from/to brightness
level 0.
This patch adds detection and a non-intrusive workaround for the above issues.

The min_brightness value of the sabi_config is incorrectly used in brightness
calculations. For the config where min_brightness = 1 and max_brightness = 8,
the user visible range should be 0 to 7 with hardware being set in the range
of 1 to 8. What is actually happening is that the user visible range is 0 to
8 with hardware being set in the range of -1 to 7.
This patch fixes the above issue as well as a miscalculation that would occur
in the case of min_brightness > 1.

The AMW0 function in acer-wmi works on Lenovo ideapad S205 for control
the wifi hardware state. We also found there have a 0x78 EC register
exposes the state of wifi hardware switch on the machine.
So, add this patch to support Lenovo ideapad S205 wifi hardware switch
in acer-wmi driver.

only the TDC one actually matters, but fix it up anyway since the

Some samsung latop of the N150/N2{10,20,30} serie are badly detected by the samsung-laptop platform driver, see bug # 36082.
It appears that N230 identifies itself as N150/N210/N220/N230 whereas the other identify themselves as N150/N210/220.
This patch attemtp fix#36082 allowing correct identification for all the said netbook model.

The T101MT Home/Express Gate key autorepeats in hardware, but
sparse-keymap does not support hardware autorepeat. Enable the
input core's software autorepeat to emulate the hardware behavior.
Normal hotkeys are autoreleased, so the behavior of these keys
will not be affected.

This key is different than other hotkeys, having seperate scan
codes for press, release, and hold, so it requires some special
filtering. Press and release events are passed on, and hold events
are ignored since sparse-keymap does not support hardware
autorepeat.
Note that "Home" in the context of this button doesn't mean the
same thing as the usual Home key, and it really isn't clear at
all what is meant by "Home". The manufacurer's description of the
button indicates that it should launch some sort of touch screen
settings interface on short press and apply a desktop rotation on
long press.

we can now autodetect internal 3G device and already have the threeg
rfkill device. So, we plan to remove threeg sysfs support for it's no
longer necessary.
We also plan to remove interface sysfs file that exposed which ACPI-WMI
interface that was used by acer-wmi driver. It will replaced by information
log when acer-wmi initial.
We keep it around for userspace compatibility reasons, schedule removal
in 2012.

Handle events 0x4010 and 0x4011 so that we do not pester users about them.
These events report when the thinkpad is docked/undocked to a native
hotplug dock (i.e. one that does not need ACPI handling, nor is represented
in the ACPI device tree). Such docks are based on USB 2.0/3.0, and also
work as port replicators.
We really want a proper dock class to report these, or at least new input
EV_SW events. Since it is not clear which one to use yet, keep reporting
them as vendor-specific ThinkPad events.
WARNING: As defined by the thinkpad-acpi sysfs ABI rules of engagement, the
vendor-specific events will be REMOVED as soon as generic events are made
available (duplicate events are a big problem), with an appropriate update
to the thinkpad-acpi sysfs/event ABI versioning. Userspace is already
prepared to provide easy backwards compatibility for such changes when
convenient to the distro (see acpi-fakekey).

Typical usecase would be to trigger display reconfiguration.
Reports mention T410, T510, and series 3 docks/port replicators. Special

Handle some user interface events from the newer Lenovo models. We are likely
to do something smart with these events in the future, for now, hide the ones
we are already certain about from the user and userspace both.
* Events 0x6000 and 0x6005 are key-related. 0x6005 is not properly identified
yet. Ignore these events, and do not report them.
* Event 0x6040 has not been properly identified yet, and we don't know if it
is important (looks like it isn't, but still...). Keep reporting it.
* Change the message the driver outputs on unknown 0x6xxx events, as all
recent events are not related to thermal alarms. Degrade log level from
ALERT to WARNING.
Thanks to all users who reported these events or asked about them in a number
of mailing lists. Your help is highly appreciated, even if I did took a lot of
time to act on them. For that I apologise.
I will list those that identified the reasons for the events as "reported-by",
and I apologise in advance if I leave anyone out: it was not done on purpose, I
made the mistake of not properly tagging all event report emails separately,
and might have missed some.

acer-wmi is indiscriminately using the device state from hotkey
events to update the various rfkill states. On the Aspire 1830 this
can result in a soft block on the wlan when the touchpad hotkey is
pressed, as it is reporting a non-zero device state that does not
reflect the wireless status. To fix this, only update rfkill states
when a wlan or bluetooth hotkey is pressed.

There have section mismatch warning message shows up when building
the kernel with make CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y.
The problem is the load_scm_model_init() calls msi_laptop_input_setup()
which is an __init function, but load_scm_model_init() lacks a __init
annotation.
This patch add __init on load_scm_model_init() to avoid warning message.

Have many Acer notebooks' BIOS already support new WMID_GUID3 method.

Acer WMID_GUID1/2 method's return buffer was declared to 64-bits
on some Acer notebook, but WMI method only use 32-bits in return
buffer.
So, add this patch for allow 64-bits return buffer.

That will be better to check the existence of internal 3G device when
we set threeg capability and generate killswitch for threeg. It can
avoid userland access 3G rfkill but the machine doesn't have internal
3G device.

On an Acer Travelmate 5735Z-452G32Mnss the WLAN-enable/disable key
doesn't send 0x1 as acpi event key code, but 0x3. This patch also
makes the module ignore hotkey acpi events for functions that are
already handled without. This avoids warning message "keyboard:
can't emulate rawmode for keycode 240".

* The acerhdf driver isn't an ACPI driver, so it needs not include
<acpi/acpi_drivers.h>. All it uses is ec_read() and ec_write(), for
which <linux/acpi.h> is sufficient.
* I couldn't find any reason why <linux/fs.h> and <linux/sched.h> were
included.
This should avoid unneeded rebuilds of the acerhdf driver.

The THERMAL_HWMON config option simply exposes the thermal zone
temperature values and limits to user-space. It makes no sense for a
kernel driver to depend on this.

The driver set module parameter value: mailled, threeg and brightness
to BIOS by evaluate wmi method when driver was initialed. The default
values for those parameters are -1, so, that will be better don't set
negative value to BIOS.

The presense of a writeq() implementation on 32-bit x86 that splits the
64-bit write into two 32-bit writes turns out to break the mpt2sas driver
(and in general is risky for drivers as was discussed in
<http://lkml.kernel.org/r/adaab6c1h7c.fsf@cisco.com>). To fix this,
revert 2c5643b1c5 ("x86: provide readq()/writeq() on 32-bit too") and
follow-on cleanups.
This unfortunately leads to pushing non-atomic definitions of readq() and
write() to various x86-only drivers that in the meantime started using the
definitions in the x86 version of <asm/io.h>. However as discussed
exhaustively, this is actually the right thing to do, because the right
way to split a 64-bit transaction is hardware dependent and therefore
belongs in the hardware driver (eg mpt2sas needs a spinlock to make sure
no other accesses occur in between the two halves of the access).
Build tested on 32- and 64-bit x86 allmodconfig.

The ACPI notification we get from rfkill events on these machines gives
us all the information we need to identify the port that's changed. Do
so rather than assuming that it's always bus 1.

The new style brightness control provides an operating range of 9 values
(seems consistent over a large number of models sharing the same
brightness control methods).
Read and use the minimum and maximum values to limit the backlight
interface between those boundaries.

The newer Lenovo ThinkPads have HKEY HID of LEN0068 instead
of IBM0068. Added new HID so that thinkpad_acpi module will
auto load on these newer Lenovo ThinkPads.

MXM is a laptop graphics card form-factor + interface specification,
this adds an initial stub driver to talk to the MXM WMI interface.
The only method used is the MUX switching method needed to do switchable
graphics on the nvidia chipsets.

Subject: [PATCH] thinkpad-acpi: Some BIOS versions don't end in WW, remove check
My X201s BIOS version string is 6QET46V1 (1.16 ). The
EC version string is 6QHT28WW-1.09. The driver was requiring that both
of these have 'WW' in positions 6 and 7. I don't know what the
significance of having 'V1' there instead is, but removing the test
makes the driver load on my machine.

Restore the original state on module removal, set the latest values on
resume.
When setting the keyboard backlight mode try to turn on/off backlight
immediately.

When I added the buslock/unlock mechanism to the pmic code in order to
get rid of the horrible work queue stuff, stupid me missed to add the
new callbacks to the irq_chip.
In consequence Andrew removed the unused functions, but I missed that.
Add them back and hook them up proper.

The SNC acpi driver could get early notifications before it fully
initializes and that could lead to dereferencing the sony_nc_handles
structure pointer that is still NULL at that stage.
Make sure we return early from the handle lookup function in these
cases.

The msi-laptop driver uses input_*() and sparse_keymap_*() interfaces.
It should depend on the INPUT subsystem being present and select
INPUT_SPARSEKMAP so that those interfaces are present.

Acer WMI hotkey event's result include current device status, just
need sync the status to killswitch after acer-wmi driver receive
hotkey event but not always poll device status. This is good for
performance.
But, if use EC raw mode, Acer BIOS will not emit wmi event and
leave EC to control device status. So, still startup polling job
when doesn't detect WMI event GUID or user choice to use ec_raw_mode.
Tested on Acer TravelMate 8572 notebook.

Acer BIOS keeps devices state when system reboot, but reset to default
device states (Wlan on, Bluetooth off, wwan on) if system cold boot.
That means BIOS's initial state is not always real persistence.
So, removed rfkill_init_sw_state because it sets initial state to
persistence then replicate to other new killswitch when rfkill-input
enabled.
After removed it, acer-wmi set initial soft-block state after rfkill
register, and doesn't allow set_block until rfkill initial finished.

dmi_check_system() walks the table running matching functions until
someone returns non zero or we hit the end.
This patch makes dmi_check_cb to return 1 so dmi_check_system() return
immediately when a match is found.

has wrong patch merge.
The original patch change the return value for dmi_check_cb():

MSI BIOS's raw behavior is send out KEY_TOUCHPAD_TOGGLE key when user
pressed touchpad hotkey.
Actually, we can capture the real touchpad status by read 0xE4 EC address
on MSI netbook/notebook. So, add msi-laptop input device for send out
KEY_TOUCHPAD_ON or KEY_TOUCHPAD_OFF key when user pressed Fn+F3 touchpad
hotkey. It leave userland applications to know the real touchpad status.
Tested on MSI netbook U-100, U-115, U160(N051), U160DX, N014, N034

Set the touchpad toggle key code from F22 to KEY_TOUCHPAD_TOGGLE,
and userspace should use udev's key re-mapping facilities while X
is unable to process keycodes above 255 to adjust to the keycode.

On ideapad Y530, the brightness key notify will be blocked if the last notify
is not responsed by getting the brightness value. Read value when we get the
notify shall fix the problem and will not have any difference on other ideapads.

Introduce a new driver for Asus Notebooks shipped with
a WMI device instead of the old ACPI device. The WMI
device is almost the same as the one present in Eee PC,
but the event guid and the keymap are different.
The keymap comes from asus-laptop module.
On Asus notebooks, when you call the WMI device, you always
need a 64bit buffer, even if you only want to get the state
of a device (tested on a G73).

This is tricky, new WMI aware notebooks seems to use
0x53545344 while Eee PCs are using 0x53544344. But there
is no way to know if there is an Eee PC in that wild that is
using 0x53545344 or a notebook using 0x53544344. So the
driver try to guess the available DSTS method ... But most Eee PCs
never return 0xFFFFFFFE when a method is not available, they return
0 instead (and that's useless).
So, first, try 0x53544344 then 0x53545344. We will find
a better way when we got more data.

This patch create a single function to call the
WMI methods. This function handle inexistent methods (when
implemented by the WMI devices, and this is not the case on
Eee PCs), ACPI errors, etc..
Also pack struct bios_arg, and make sure that we always send
a 64bit buffer when calling a WMI method, because this is
needed on Asus notebooks.

New Asus notebooks are using a WMI device similar to
the one used in Eee PCs. Since we don't want to load
eeepc-wmi module on Asus notebooks, and we want to
keep the eeepc-wmi module for backward compatibility,
this patch introduce a new module, named asus-wmi, that
will be used by eeepc-wmi and the new Asus Notebook WMI
Driver.
eeepc-wmi's input device strings (device name and phys)
are kept, but rfkill and led names are changed (s/eeepc/asus/).
This should not break anything since rfkill are used by type or
index, not by name, and the eeepc::touchpad led wasn't working
correctly before 2.6.39 anyway.
