Artem Bityutskiy 7e1f0dc055 mtd: introduce mtd_erase interface
This patch is part of a patch-set which changes the MTD interface
from 'mtd->func()' form to 'mtd_func()' form. We need this because
we want to add common code to to all drivers in the mtd core level,
which is impossible with the current interface when MTD clients
call driver functions like 'read()' or 'write()' directly.

At this point we just introduce a new inline wrapper function, but
later some of them are expected to gain more code. E.g., the input
parameters check should be moved to the wrappers rather than be
duplicated at many drivers.

This particular patch introduced the 'mtd_erase()' interface. The
following patches add all the other interfaces one by one.

Aaron Sierra 8e987465a1 mtd: cfi: Allow per-mapping CFI device endianness
This patch allows each CFI device map to use its own endianness. The
globally defined CFI endianness (CONFIG_MTD_CFI_NOSWAP,
CONFIG_MTD_CFI_BE_BYTE_SWAP or CONFIG_MTD_CFI_LE_BYTE_SWAP) becomes the
default value which can be overridden by a driver for a particular device.

Paul Gortmaker de47725421 include: replace linux/module.h with "struct module" wherever possible
The <linux/module.h> pretty much brings in the kitchen sink along
with it, so it should be avoided wherever reasonably possible in
terms of being included from other commonly used <linux/something.h>
files, as it results in a measureable increase on compile times.

The worst culprit was probably device.h since it is used everywhere.
This file also had an implicit dependency/usage of mutex.h which was
masked by module.h, and is also fixed here at the same time.

There are over a dozen other headers that simply declare the
struct instead of pulling in the whole file, so follow their lead
and simply make it a few more.

Most of the implicit dependencies on module.h being present by
these headers pulling it in have been now weeded out, so we can
finally make this change with hopefully minimal breakage.

The nand_chip.ops field is a struct that is passed around globally with
no particular reason. Every time it is used, it could just as easily be
replaced with a local struct that is updated on each operation. So make
it local.

These modes are not necessarily for OOB only. Particularly, MTD_OOB_RAW
affected operations on in-band page data as well. To clarify these
options and to emphasize that their effect is applied per-operation, we
change the primary prefix to MTD_OPS_.

Brian Norris c46f6483d2 mtd: support reading OOB without ECC
This fixes issues with `nanddump -n' and the MEMREADOOB[64] ioctls on
hardware that performs error correction when reading only OOB data. A
driver for such hardware needs to know when we're doing a RAW vs. a
normal write, but mtd_do_read_oob does not pass such information to the
lower layers (e.g., NAND). We should pass MTD_OOB_RAW or MTD_OOB_PLACE
based on the MTD file mode.

For now, most drivers can get away with just setting:

  chip->ecc.read_oob_raw = chip->ecc.read_oob

This is done by default; but for systems that behave as described above,
you must supply your own replacement function.

This was tested with nandsim as well as on actual SLC NAND.

Brian Norris 9ce244b3fb mtd: support writing OOB without ECC
This fixes issues with `nandwrite -n -o' and the MEMWRITEOOB[64] ioctls
on hardware that writes ECC when writing OOB. The problem arises as
follows: `nandwrite -n' can write page data to flash without applying
ECC, but when used with the `-o' option, ECC is applied (incorrectly),
contrary to the `--noecc' option.

I found that this is the case because my hardware computes and writes
ECC data to flash upon either OOB write or page write. Thus, to support
a proper "no ECC" write, my driver must know when we're performing a raw
OOB write vs. a normal ECC OOB write. However, MTD does not pass any raw
mode information to the write_oob functions.  This patch addresses the
problems by:

1) Passing MTD_OOB_RAW down to lower layers, instead of just defaulting
   to MTD_OOB_PLACE
2) Handling MTD_OOB_RAW within the NAND layer's `nand_do_write_oob'
3) Adding a new (replaceable) function pointer in struct ecc_ctrl; this
   function should support writing OOB without ECC data. Current
   hardware often can use the same OOB write function when writing
   either with or without ECC

This was tested with nandsim as well as on actual SLC NAND.

There are two different 4KiB pagesize chips
KFM4G16Q4M series have NOP 4 with version ID 0x0131
But KFM4G16Q5M has NOP 1 with versoin ID 0x013e

Lots (nearly all) mtd drivers contain nearly the similar code that
calls parse_mtd_partitions, provides some platform-default values, if
parsing fails, and registers  mtd device.

This is an aim to provide single implementation of this scenario:
mtd_device_parse_register() which will handle all this parsing and
defaults.

Brian Norris a40f73419f mtd: nand: consolidate redundant flash-based BBT flags
This patch works with the following three flags from two headers (nand.h
and bbm.h):
  (1) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (nand.h)
  (2) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (nand.h)
  (3) NAND_BBT_NO_OOB (bbm.h)

These flags are all related and interdependent, yet they were in
different headers. Flag (2) is simply the combination of (1) and (3) and
can be eliminated.

This patch accomplishes the following:
  * eliminate NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (i.e., flag (2))
  * move NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (i.e., flag (1)) to bbm.h

It's important to note that because (1) and (3) are now both found in
bbm.h, they should NOT be used in the "nand_chip.options" field.

I removed a small section from the mtdnand DocBook because it referes to
NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT in nand.h, which has been moved to bbm.h.

Brian Norris 5fb1549dfc mtd: nand: separate chip options / bbt_options
This patch handles the problems we've been having with using conflicting
flags from nand.h and bbm.h in the same nand_chip.options field. We
should try to separate these two spaces a little more clearly, and so I
have added a bbt_options field to nand_chip.

Important notes about nand_chip fields:
* bbt_options field should contain ONLY flags from bbm.h. They should be
  able to pass safely to a nand_bbt_descr data structure.
    - BBT option flags start with the "NAND_BBT_" prefix.
* options field should contian ONLY flags from nand.h. Ideally, they
  should not be involved in any BBT related options.
    - NAND chip option flags start with the "NAND_" prefix.
* Every flag should have a nice comment explaining what the flag is. While
  this is not yet the case on all existing flags, please be sure to write
  one for new flags. Even better, you can help document the code better
  yourself!

Please try to follow these conventions to make everyone's lives easier.

Among the flags that are being moved to the new bbt_options field
throughout various drivers, etc. are:
 * NAND_BBT_SCANLASTPAGE
 * NAND_BBT_SCAN2NDPAGE
and there will be more to come.

the NAND_BBT_SCANBYTE1AND6 flag, although technically valid, can break
some existing ECC layouts that use the 6th byte in the OOB for ECC data.
Furthermore, we apparently do not need to scan both bytes 1 and 6 in
the OOB region of the devices under consideration; instead, we only need
to scan one or the other.

Thus, the NAND_BBT_SCANBYTE1AND6 flag is at best unnecessary and at
worst a regression.

Grant Erickson 33b53716bc mtd: create function to perform large allocations
Introduce a common function to handle large, contiguous kmalloc buffer
allocations by exponentially backing off on the size of the requested
kernel transfer buffer until it succeeds or until the requested
transfer buffer size falls below the page size.

This helps ensure the operation can succeed under low-memory, highly-
fragmented situations albeit somewhat more slowly.

Artem: so this patch solves the problem that the kernel tries to kmalloc too
large buffers, which (a) may fail and does fail - people complain about this,
and (b) slows down the system in case of high memory fragmentation, because
the kernel starts dropping caches, writing back, swapping, etc. But we do not
really have to allocate a lot of memory to do the I/O, we may do this even with
as little as one min. I/O unit (NAND page) of RAM. So the idea of this patch is
that if the user asks to read or write a lot, we try to kmalloc a lot, with GFP
flags which make the kernel _not_ drop caches, etc. If we can allocate it - good,
if not - we try to allocate twice as less, and so on, until we reach the min.
I/O unit size, which is our last resort allocation and use the normal
GFP_KERNEL flag.

Artem: re-write the allocation function so that it makes sure the allocated
buffer is aligned to the min. I/O size of the flash.

Marc Zyngier 667f390bee ARM: 6910/1: MTD: physmap: let set_vpp() pass a platform_device instead of a map_info
The set_vpp() method provided by physmap passes a map_info back to
the platform code, which has little relevance as far as the platform
is concerned (this parameter is completely unused).

Instead, pass the platform_device, which can be used in the pismo
driver to retrieve some important information in a nicer way, instead
of the hack that was in place.

The empty set_vpp function in board-at572d940hf_ek.c is left untouched,
as the board/SoC is scheduled for removal.

NOTE!

This merge commit was created to fix compilation error. The block
tree was merged upstream and removed the 'elv_queue_empty()'
function which the new 'mtdswap' driver is using. So a simple
merge of the mtd tree with upstream does not compile. And the
mtd tree has already be published, so re-basing it is not an option.

To fix this unfortunate situation, I had to merge upstream into the
mtd-2.6.git tree without committing, put the fixup patch on top of
this, and then commit this. The result is that we do not have commits
which do not compile.

In other words, this merge commit "merges" 3 things: the MTD tree, the
upstream tree, and the fixup patch.

Ivan Djelic 193bd40026 mtd: nand: add software BCH ECC support
This patch adds software BCH ECC support to mtd, in order to handle recent
NAND device ecc requirements (4 bits or more).

It does so by adding a new ecc mode (NAND_ECC_SOFT_BCH) for use by board
drivers, and a new Kconfig option to enable BCH support. It relies on the
generic BCH library introduced in a previous patch.

When a board driver uses mode NAND_ECC_SOFT_BCH, it should also set fields
chip->ecc.size and chip->ecc.bytes to select BCH ecc data size and required
error correction capability. See nand_bch_init() documentation for details.

It has been tested on the following platforms using mtd-utils, UBI and
UBIFS: x86 (with nandsim), arm926ejs.

David Griego dcfb81d61d mtd: NOR flash driver for OMAP-L137/AM17x
OMAP-L137/AM17x has limited number of dedicated EMIFA
address pins, enough to interface directly to an SDRAM.
If a device such as an asynchronous flash needs to be
attached to the EMIFA, then either GPIO pins or a chip
select may be used to control the flash device's upper
address lines.

This patch adds support for the NOR flash on the OMAP-L137/
AM17x user interface daughter board using the latch-addr-flash
MTD mapping driver which allows flashes to be partially
physically addressed. The upper address lines are set by
a board specific code which is a separate patch.

Add a new background method into mtd_blktrans_ops, add background support
into mtd_blktrans_thread(), and add mtd_blktrans_cease_background().

If the mtd blktrans dev has the background support, the thread will
call background function when the request queue becomes empty. The background
operation may run as long as needs to until
mtd_blktrans_cease_background() tells to stop.

Provide the LEB offset information in the UBI device information data
structure. This piece of information is required by UBIFS to find out
what are the LEB offsets which are aligned to the max. write size.

If LEB offset not aligned to max. write size, then UBIFS has to take

Anatolij Gustschin 0e4ca7e510 mtd: add writebufsize field to mtd_info struct
This field will be used to indicate the write buffer size
of the MTD device. UBI will set it's minimal I/O unit size
(min_io_size) to the indicated write buffer size. By this
change we intend to fix failed recovery of UBIFS partitions
we currently observe on NOR flash when mounting the partition
after unclean unmount.

Currently the min_io_size is set to mtd->writesize (which is 1
byte for NOR flash). But flash programming is often done from
prepared write buffer containing multiple bytes and is performed
in one programming operation which could be interrupted by a power
cut or a system reset causing corrupted (partially written) areas
in a flash sector. Knowing the size of potentially corrupted areas
UBIFS scanning and recovery algorithms are able to perform
successful recovery.

In case of NOR flash minimal I/O size must be equal to the
maximal size of the write buffer used by embedded flash
programming algorithm. In case of NAND flash mtd->writebufsize
should be equivalent to mtd->writesize.

The subsequent patches will add mtd->writebufsize initialization
where needed.

The patch fixes the problem of checking the right mtd device for partition creation.
To delete partition checking is not needed here so as it is done in mtd_del_partition.
By master we consider the mtd device which does not belong to any partition.

Sebastian Andrzej Siewior 7cba7b14fe mtd: nand: add support for BBT without OOB
The first (sixt) byte in the OOB area contains vendor's bad block
information. During identification of the NAND chip this information is
collected by scanning the complete chip.
The option NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT is used to store this information in a sector so
we don't have to scan the complete flash. Unfortunately the code stores
a marker in order to recognize the BBT in the OOB area. This will fail
if the OOB area is completely used for ECC.
This patch introduces the option NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB which has to be
used with NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT. It will then store BBT on flash without
touching the OOB area. The BBT format on flash remains same except the
first page starts with the recognition pattern followed by the version byte.
This change was tested in nandsim and it looks good so far :)

Huang Shijie 12a40a57f7 mtd: add init_size hook for NAND driver
Not all the NAND devices have all the information in additional
id bytes.

So add a hook in the nand_chip{} is a good method to calculate the
right value of oobsize, erasesize and so on.

Without the hook,you will get the wrong value, and you have to hack
in the ->scan_bbt() to change the wrong value which make the code
mess.

Florian Fainelli d1e1f4e42b mtd: nand: add support for reading ONFI parameters from NAND device
This patch adds support for reading NAND device ONFI parameters and use
the ONFI informations to define its geometry. In case the device supports
ONFI, the onfi_version field in struct nand_chip contains the version (BCD)
and the onfi_params structure can be used by drivers to set up timings and
such. We currently only support ONFI 1.0 parameters.

Brian Norris 0ceacf36e9 mtd: edit comments on deprecation of ioctl ECCGETLAYOUT
There were some improvements and additions necessary in the
comments explaining of the expansion of nand_ecclayout, the
introduction of nand_ecclayout_user, and the deprecation of the
ioctl ECCGETLAYOUT.

Also, I found a better placement for the macro MTD_MAX_ECCPOS_ENTRIES;
next to the definition of MTD_MAX_OOBFREE_ENTRIES in mtd-abi.h. The macro
is really only important for the ioctl code (found in drivers/mtd/mtdchar.c)
but since there are small edits being made to the user-space header, I
figured this is a better location.

Brian Norris cc26c3cd3d mtd: nand: expand nand_ecc_layout, deprecate ioctl ECCGETLAYOUT
struct nand_ecclayout is too small for many new chips; OOB regions can be as
large as 448 bytes and may increase more in the future. Thus, copying that
struct to user-space with the ECCGETLAYOUT ioctl is not a good idea; the ioctl
would have to be updated every time there's a change to the current largest
size.

Instead, the old nand_ecclayout is renamed to nand_ecclayout_user and a
new struct nand_ecclayout is created that can accomodate larger sizes and
expand without affecting the user-space. struct nand_ecclayout can still
be used in board drivers without modification -- at least for now.

A new function is provided to convert from the new to the old in order to
allow the deprecated ioctl to continue to work with truncated data. Perhaps
the ioctl, the conversion process, and the struct nand_ecclayout_user can be
removed altogether in the future.

Note: There are comments in nand/davinci_nand.c::nand_davinci_probe()
regarding this issue; this driver (and maybe others) can be updated to
account for extra space. All kernel drivers can use the expanded
nand_ecclayout as a drop-in replacement and ignore its benefits.

Barry Song 78ef7fab0e mtd-physmap: add support users can assign the probe type in board files
There are three reasons to add this support:
1. users probably know the interface type of their flashs, then probe
can be faster if they give the right type in platform data since wrong
types will not be detected.
2. sometimes, detecting can cause destory to system. For example, for
kernel XIP, detecting can cause NOR enter a mode instructions can not
be fetched right, which will make kernel crash.
3. For a new probe which is not listed in the rom_probe_types, if users
assign it in board files, physmap can still probe it.

Brian Norris 58373ff0af mtd: nand: more BB Detection refactoring and dynamic scan options
This is a revision to PATCH 2/2 that I sent. Link:

Added new flag for scanning of both bytes 1 and 6 of the OOB for
a BB marker (instead of simply one or the other).

The "check_pattern" and "check_short_pattern" functions were updated
to include support for scanning the two different locations in the OOB.

In order to handle increases in variety of necessary scanning patterns,
I implemented dynamic memory allocation of nand_bbt_descr structs
in new function 'nand_create_default_bbt_descr()'. This replaces
some increasingly-unwieldy, statically-declared descriptors. It can
replace several more (e.g. "flashbased" structs). However, I do not
test the flashbased options personally.

How this was tested:

I referenced 30+ data sheets (covering 100+ parts), and I tested a
selection of 10 different chips to varying degrees. Particularly, I
tested the creation of bad-block descriptors and basic BB scanning on
three parts:

ST NAND04GW3B2D, 2K page
ST NAND128W3A, 512B page
Samsung K9F1G08U0A, 2K page

To test these, I wrote some fake bad block markers to the flash (in OOB
bytes 1, 6, and elsewhere) to see if the scanning routine would detect
them properly. However, this method was somewhat limited because the
driver I am using has some bugs in its OOB write functionality.

so I changed its value to 0x00008000. All uses of the name were modified to
provide consistency with other "NAND_BBT_*" flags.

Kevin Cernekee b60b08b02c mtd: nand: support alternate BB marker locations on MLC
This is a slightly modified version of a patch submitted last year by
Reuben Dowle <reuben.dowle@navico.com>.  His original comments follow:

This patch adds support for some MLC NAND flashes that place the BB
marker in the LAST page of the bad block rather than the FIRST page used
for SLC NAND and other types of MLC nand.

Lifted from Samsung datasheet for K9LG8G08U0A (1Gbyte MLC NAND):
"
Identifying Initial Invalid Block(s)
All device locations are erased(FFh) except locations where the initial
invalid block(s) information is written prior to shipping. The initial
invalid block(s) status is defined by the 1st byte in the spare area.
Samsung makes sure that the last page of every initial invalid block has
non-FFh data at the column address of 2,048.
...
"

As far as I can tell, this is the same for all Samsung MLC nand, and in
fact the samsung bsp for the processor used in our project (s3c6410)
actually contained a hack similar to this patch but less portable to
enable use of their NAND parts. I discovered this problem when trying to
use a Micron NAND which does not used this layout - I wish samsung would
put their stuff in main-line to avoid this type of problem.

Currently this patch causes all MLC nand with manufacturer codes from
Samsung and ST(Numonyx) to use this alternative location, since these
are the manufactures that I know of that use this layout.

Some of the newer MLC devices have a 6-byte ID sequence in which
several field definitions differ from older chips in a manner that is
not backward compatible.  For instance:

Samsung K9GAG08U0M (5-byte sequence): ec d5 14 b6 74
4th byte, bits 1:0 encode the page size: 0=1KiB, 1=2KiB, 2=4KiB, 3=8KiB
4th byte, bits 5:4 encode the block size: 0=64KiB, 1=128KiB, ...
4th byte, bit 6 encodes the OOB size: 0=8B/512B, 1=16B/512B

Samsung K9GAG08U0D (6-byte sequence): ec d5 94 29 34 41
4th byte, bits 1:0 encode the page size: 0=2KiB, 1=4KiB, 3=8KiB, 4=rsvd
4th byte, bits 7;5:4 encode the block size: 0=128KiB, 1=256KiB, ...
4th byte, bits 6;3:2 encode the OOB size: 1=128B/page, 2=218B/page

This patch uses the new 6-byte scheme if the following conditions are
all true:

1) The ID code wraps around after exactly 6 bytes

2) Manufacturer is Samsung

3) 6th byte is zero

The patch also extends the maximum OOB size from 128B to 256B.

Stefani Seibold c4e773764c mtd: fix a huge latency problem in the MTD CFI and LPDDR flash drivers.
The use of a memcpy() during a spinlock operation will cause very long
thread context switch delays if the flash chip bandwidth is low and the
data to be copied large, because a spinlock will disable preemption.

For example: A flash with 6,5 MB/s bandwidth will cause under ubifs,
which request sometimes 128 KiB (the flash erase size), a preemption delay of
20 milliseconds. High priority threads will not be served during this
time, regardless whether this threads access the flash or not. This behavior
breaks real time.

The patch changes all the use of spin_lock operations for xxxx->mutex
into mutex operations, which is exact what the name says and means.

I have checked the code of the drivers and there is no use of atomic
pathes like interrupt or timers. The mtdoops facility will also not be used
by this drivers. So it is dave to replace the spin_lock against mutex.

There is no performance regression since the mutex is normally not
acquired.

This changes the behavier of MTD_OOB_RAW. It used to read both OOB and 
data to the data buffer, however you would still need to specify the 
dummy oob buffer.

This is only used in one place, but makes it hard to read data+oob 
without ECC test, thus I removed that behavier, and fixed the user.

Now MTD_OOB_RAW behaves just like MTD_OOB_PLACE, but doesn't do ECC 
validation

* Track users, and call tr->release in del_mtd_blktrans_dev
  Due to that ->open and release aren't called more that once.

Now it is safe to call del_mtd_blktrans_dev while the device is still in use.

intended to add this, but seems only to have patched the Makefile without
touching Kconfig or providing any code...)

The following patch adds support for PISMO modules found on ARM Ltd
development platforms.  These are MTD modules, and can have a
selection of SRAM, flash or DOC devices as described by an on-board
I2C EEPROM.

We support SRAM and NOR flash devices only by registering appropriate
conventional MTD platform devices as children of the 'pismo' device.

Add NAND_SCAN_SILENT_NODEV to chip->options to the user-worrying messages
'No NAND device found!!!'. This message often worries users (was three
exclamation marks really necessary?) and especially in systems such as the
Simtec Osiris where there may be optional NAND devices which are not
known until probe time.

Revised version of the original NAND_PROBE_SPECULATIVE patch after comments

Mika Korhonen 72073027ee mtd: OneNAND: multiblock erase support
Add support for multiblock erase command. OneNANDs (excluding Flex-OneNAND)
are capable of simultaneous erase of up to 64 eraseblocks which is much faster.

Amul Kumar Saha 3cf602532c mtd: OneNAND OTP support rework
What is OTP in OneNAND?
The device includes,
1. one block-sized OTP (One Time Programmable) area and
2. user-controlled 1st block OTP(Block 0)
that can be used to increase system security or to provide
identification capabilities.

What is done?
In OneNAND, one block of the NAND Array is set aside as an OTP
memory area, and 1st Block (Block 0) can be used as OTP area.
This area, available to the user, can be configured and locked
with secured user information. The OTP block can be read,
programmed and locked using the same operations as any other NAND
Flash Array memory block. After issuing an OTP-Lock, OTP block
cannot be erased. OTP block is fully-guaranteed to be a good
block.

Why it is done?
Locking the 1st Block OTP has the effect of a 'Write-protect' to
guard against accidental re-programming of data stored in the 1st
block and OTP Block.

Which problem it solves?
OTP support is provided in the existing implementation of
OneNAND/Flex-OneNAND driver, but it is not working with OneNAND
devices. Have observed the following in current OTP OneNAND Implmentation,
1. DataSheet specific sequence to lock the OTP Area is not followed.
2. Certain functions are quiet generic to cope with OTP specific activity.
This patch re-implements OTP support for OneNAND device.

How it is done?
For all blocks, 8th word is available to the user.
However, in case of OTP Block, 8th word of sector 0, page 0 is reserved as
OTP Locking Bit area. Therefore, in case of OTP Block, user usage on this
area is prohibited. Condition specific values are entered in the 8th word,
sector0, page 0 of the OTP block during the process of issuing an OTP-Lock.
The possible conditions are:
1. Only 1st Block Lock
2. Only OTP Block Lock
3. Lock both the 1st Block and the OTP Block

What Other feature additions have been done in this patch?
This patch adds feature for:
1. Only 1st Block Lock
2. Lock both the 1st Block and the OTP Blocks

Re-implemented OTP support for OneNAND
Added following features to OneNAND
	1. Lock only 1st Block in OneNAND

Corentin Chary b571028418 UBI: Add ubi_open_volume_path
Add an 'ubi_open_volume_path(path, mode)' function which works like
'open_bdev_exclusive(path, mode, ...)' where path is the special file
representing the UBI volume, typically /dev/ubi0_0.

This is needed to teach UBIFS being able to mount UBI character devices.

Alessandro Rubini 30631cb82d mtd: unify status enum from three headers
nand.h, onenand.h and flashchip.h defined enumeration types
for chip status using the same symbolic names. This prevented
a board file to include more than one of them. In particular,
no nand and onenand platform devices could live in the same file.
This patch augments flashchip.h with a few status values in order
to cover all cases, so nand.h and onenand.h can use flstate_t
without declaring their own status enum.

Sneha Narnakaje 6e0cb135b3 mtd: nand: add new ECC mode - ECC_HW_OOB_FIRST
This patch adds the new mode NAND_ECC_HW_OOB_FIRST in the nand code to
support 4-bit ECC on TI DaVinci devices with large page (up to 2KiB) NAND
chips.  This ECC mode is similar to NAND_ECC_HW, with the exception of
read_page API that first reads the OOB area, reads the data in chunks,
feeds the ECC from OOB area to the ECC hw engine and perform any
correction on the data as per the ECC status reported by the engine.

"ECC_HW_OOB_FIRST" name suggested by Thomas Gleixner

Magnus Damm 778dbcc1eb mtd: onenand: make onenand/generic.c more generic
Remove the ARM dependency from the generic "onenand" platform device
driver.  This change makes the driver useful for other architectures as
well.  Needed for the SuperH kfr2r09 board.

Apart from the obvious Kconfig bits, the most important change is the move
away from ARM specific includes and platform data.  Together with this
change the only in-tree board code gets an update, and the driver name is
also changed gracefully break potential out of tree drivers.

The driver is also updated to allow NULL as platform data together with a
few changes to make use of resource_size() and dev_name().

Add optional callback to allow platform to initialize partitions.

Static partitions on a nand device could vary depending on the size of the
device.  This patch allows an optional platform callback to be used to
setup this partition information at runtime.

Scan order is:
	1) chip.part_probe_types
	2) chip.set_parts
	3) chip.partitions
	4) full mtd device (fallback for no partitions)

Some of the existing nand drivers could possibly be replaced by the
plat_nand driver by using this patch.  These include autcpu12.c and
ts7250.c drivers.

Alexander Clouter d6fed9e9fc mtd: extend plat_nand for (read|write)_buf
This patch adds (write|read)_buf callbacks to plat_nand.

The NAND on the TS-7800 provisioned by the FPGA allows readw() and
readl() to be used which gives a 2.5x speed up.  To be able to use this
from the plat_nand driver a hook for read_buf (and also write_buf whilst
we are in there) need to be made available.  This patch adds the hook.

Dmitry Pervushin 0e0ee1cc33 UBI: add notification API
UBI volume notifications are intended to create the API to get clients
notified about volume creation/deletion, renaming and re-sizing. A
client can subscribe to these notifications using 'ubi_volume_register()'
and cancel the subscription using 'ubi_volume_unregister()'. When UBI
volumes change, a blocking notifier is called. Clients also can request
"added" events on all volumes that existed before client subscribed
to the notifications.

If we use notifications instead of calling functions like 'ubi_gluebi_xxx()',
we can make the MTD emulation layer to be more flexible: build it as a
separate module and load/unload it on demand.

David Brownell 1f24b5a8ec [MTD] driver model updates
Update driver model support in the MTD framework, so it fits
better into the current udev-based hotplug framework:

 - Each mtd_info now has a device node.  MTD drivers should set
   the dev.parent field to point to the physical device, before
   setting up partitions or otherwise declaring MTDs.

 - Those device nodes always map to /sys/class/mtdX device nodes,
   which no longer depend on MTD_CHARDEV.

 - Those mtdX sysfs nodes have a "starter set" of attributes;
   it's not yet sufficient to replace /proc/mtd.

 - Enabling MTD_CHARDEV provides /sys/class/mtdXro/ nodes and the
   /sys/class/mtd*/dev attributes (for udev, mdev, etc).

 - Include a MODULE_ALIAS_CHARDEV_MAJOR macro.  It'll work with
   udev creating the /dev/mtd* nodes, not just a static rootfs.

So the sysfs structure is pretty much what you'd expect, except
that readonly chardev nodes are a bit quirky.

Move mtd_has_partitions() and mtd_has_cmdlinepart() inlines from a
DaVinci-specific driver to the <linux/mtd/partitions.h> header.

Use those to eliminate #ifdefs in two drivers which had their own
definitions of mtd_has_partitions().

Quite a lot of other MTD drivers could benefit from using use one or both
of these to remove #ifdeffery.  Maybe some Janitors would like to help.

Adrian Hunter 69423d99fc [MTD] update internal API to support 64-bit device size
MTD internal API presently uses 32-bit values to represent
device size.  This patch updates them to 64-bits but leaves
the external API unchanged.  Extending the external API
is a separate issue for several reasons.  First, no one
needs it at the moment.  Secondly, whether the implementation
is done with IOCTLs, sysfs or both is still debated.  Thirdly
external API changes require the internal API to be accepted
first.

Note that although the MTD API will be able to support 64-bit
device sizes, existing drivers do not and are not required
to do so, although NAND base has been updated.

In general, changing from 32-bit to 64-bit values cause little
or no changes to the majority of the code with the following
exceptions:
    	- printk message formats
    	- division and modulus of 64-bit values
    	- NAND base support
	- 32-bit local variables used by mtdpart and mtdconcat
	- naughtily assuming one structure maps to another
	in MEMERASE ioctl

Eric W. Biederman 467622ef2a [MTD] [NOR] Fix cfi_send_gen_cmd handling of x16 devices in x8 mode (v4)
For "unlock" cycles to 16bit devices in 8bit compatibility mode we need
to use the byte addresses 0xaaa and 0x555. These effectively match
the word address 0x555 and 0x2aa, except the latter has its low bit set.

Most chips don't care about the value of the 'A-1' pin in x8 mode,
but some -- like the ST M29W320D -- do. So we need to be careful to
set it where appropriate.

cfi_send_gen_cmd is only ever passed addresses where the low byte
is 0x00, 0x55 or 0xaa. Of those, only addresses ending 0xaa are
affected by this patch, by masking in the extra low bit when the device
is known to be in compatibility mode.

[dwmw2: Do it only when (cmd_ofs & 0xff) == 0xaa]
v4: Fix  stupid typo in cfi_build_cmd_addr that failed to compile
    I'm writing this patch way to late at night.
v3: Bring all of the work back into cfi_build_cmd_addr
    including calling of map_bankwidth(map) and cfi_interleave(cfi)
    So every caller doesn't need to.
v2: Only modified the address if we our device_type is larger than our
    bus width.

Anders Grafström e93cafe45f [MTD] [NOR] cfi_cmdset_0001: Timeouts for erase, write and unlock operations
Timeouts are currently given by the typical operation time times 8.
It works in the general well-behaved case but not when an erase block is
failing. For erase operations, it seems that a failing erase block will
keep the device state machine in erasing state until the vendor
specified maximum timeout period has passed. By this time the driver
would have long since timed out, left erasing state and attempted
further operations which all fail. This patch implements timeouts using
values from the CFI Query structure when available.
The patch also sets a longer timeout for locking operations. The current
value used for locking/unlocking given by 1000000/HZ microseconds is too
short for devices like J3 and J5 Strataflash which have a typical clear
lock-bits time of 0.5 seconds.

Alexey Korolev 2e489e077a [MTD] [NOR] Add qry_mode_on()/qry_omde_off() to deal with odd chips
There are some CFI chips which require non standard procedures to get 
into QRY mode. The possible way to support them would be trying 
different modes till QRY will be read. This patch introduce two new 
functions qry_mode_on qry_mode_off. qry_mode_on tries different commands 
in order switch chip into QRY mode.

So if we have one more "odd" chip - we just could add several lines to 
qry_mode_on. Also using these functions remove unnecessary code 
duplicaton in porbe procedure.

Currently there are two "odd" cases
1. Some old intel chips which require 0xFF before 0x98
2. ST M29DW chip which requires 0x98 to be sent at 0x555 (according to
CFI should be 0x55)

This patch is partialy based on the patch from Uwe
(see "[PATCH 2/4] [RFC][MTD] cfi_probe: remove Intel chip workaround"

David Brownell 95b1bc2053 [MTD] MTD_DEBUG always does compile-time typechecks
The current style for debug messages is to ensure they're always
parsed by the compiler and then subjected to dead code removal.
That way builds won't break only when debug options get enabled,
which is common when they are stripped out early by CPP.

This patch makes CONFIG_MTD_DEBUG adopt that convention.

Alexey Korolev 96d8b647cf [MTD] [NAND] fix subpage read for small page NAND
Current implementation of subpage read feature for NAND has issues with
small page devices. Small page NAND do not support RNDOUT command.
So subpage feature is not applicable for them.

This patch disables support of subpage for small page NAND.
The code is verified on nandsim(SP NAND simulation) and on LP NAND
devices.

Alexey Korolev 3d45955962 [MTD] [NAND] subpage read feature as a way to increase performance.
This patch enables NAND subpage read functionality.
If upper layer drivers are requesting to read non page aligned data NAND
subpage-read functionality reads the only whose ECC regions which include
requested data when original code reads whole page.
This significantly improves performance in many cases.

Here are some digits :

UBI volume mount time
No subpage reads: 5.75 seconds
Subpage read patch: 2.42 seconds

Open/stat time for files on JFFS2 volume:
No subpage read  0m 5.36s
Subpage read     0m 2.88s

Richard Purdie 388bbb09b9 [MTD] Add mtd panic_write function pointer
MTDs are well suited for logging critical data and the mtdoops driver
allows kernel panics/oops to be written to flash in a blackbox flight
recorder fashion allowing better debugging and analysis of crashes.

Any kernel oops in user context can be easily handled since the kernel
continues as normal and any queued mtd writes are scheduled. Any kernel
oops in interrupt context results in a panic and the delayed writes will
not be scheduled however. The existing mtd->write function cannot be
called in interrupt context so these messages can never be written to
flash.

This patch adds a panic_write function pointer that drivers can
optionally implement which can be called in interrupt context. It is
only intended to be called when its known the kernel is about to panic
and we need to write to succeed. Since the kernel is not going to be
running for much longer, this function can break locks and delay to
ensure the write succeeds (but not sleep).

Artem Bityutskiy 393852ecfe UBI: add ubi_leb_map interface
The idea of this interface belongs to Adrian Hunter. The
interface is extremely useful when one has to have a guarantee
that an LEB will contain all 0xFFs even in case of an unclean
reboot. UBI does have an 'ubi_leb_erase()' call which may do
this, but it is stupid and ineffecient, because it flushes whole
queue. I should be re-worked to just be a pair of unmap,
map calls.

The user of the interfaci is UBIFS at the moment.

Kevin Hao c4a9f88daf [MTD] [NOR] fix ctrl-alt-del can't reboot for intel flash bug
When we press ctrl-alt-del,kernel_restart_prepare will invoke 
cfi_intelext_reboot which will set flash to read array mode, but later 
when device_shutdown is invoked which may put current work queue to 
sleep and other process may be scheduled to running and programming 
flash in not FL_READY mode again. So we can't boot up if this flash is 
used for bootloader.

David Woodhouse 241651d04d [MTD] Fix CFI build error when no map width or interleave supported
When building NOR flash support, you have compile-time options for the
bus width and the number of individual chips which are interleaved
together onto that bus. The code to deal with arbitrary geometry is a
bit convoluted, and people want to just configure it for the specific
hardware they have, to avoid the runtime overhead.

Selecting _none_ of the available options doesn't make any sense. You
should have at least one. This makes it build though, since people
persist in trying.

Kyungmin Park ee9745fcf2 [MTD] [OneNAND] 2X program support
The 2X Program is an extension of Program Operation.

Since the device is equipped with two DataRAMs, and two-plane NAND Flash 
memory array, these two component enables simultaneous program of 4KiB.
Plane1 has only even blocks such as block0, block2, block4 while Plane2 
has only odd blocks such as block1, block3, block5.
So MTD regards it as 4KiB page size and 256KiB block size

Now the following chips support it. (KFXXX16Q2M)

Artem B. Bityutskiy 801c135ce7 UBI: Unsorted Block Images
UBI (Latin: "where?") manages multiple logical volumes on a single
flash device, specifically supporting NAND flash devices. UBI provides
a flexible partitioning concept which still allows for wear-levelling
across the whole flash device.

In a sense, UBI may be compared to the Logical Volume Manager
(LVM). Whereas LVM maps logical sector numbers to physical HDD sector
numbers, UBI maps logical eraseblocks to physical eraseblocks.

Partitioning/Re-partitioning

  An UBI volume occupies a certain number of erase blocks. This is
  limited by a configured maximum volume size, which could also be
  viewed as the partition size. Each individual UBI volume's size can
  be changed independently of the other UBI volumes, provided that the
  sum of all volume sizes doesn't exceed a certain limit.

  UBI supports dynamic volumes and static volumes. Static volumes are
  read-only and their contents are protected by CRC check sums.

Bad eraseblocks handling

  UBI transparently handles bad eraseblocks. When a physical
  eraseblock becomes bad, it is substituted by a good physical
  eraseblock, and the user does not even notice this.

Scrubbing

  On a NAND flash bit flips can occur on any write operation,
  sometimes also on read. If bit flips persist on the device, at first
  they can still be corrected by ECC, but once they accumulate,
  correction will become impossible. Thus it is best to actively scrub
  the affected eraseblock, by first copying it to a free eraseblock
  and then erasing the original. The UBI layer performs this type of
  scrubbing under the covers, transparently to the UBI volume users.

Erase Counts

  UBI maintains an erase count header per eraseblock. This frees
  higher-level layers (like file systems) from doing this and allows
  for centralized erase count management instead. The erase counts are
  used by the wear-levelling algorithm in the UBI layer. The algorithm
  itself is exchangeable.

Booting from NAND

  For booting directly from NAND flash the hardware must at least be
  capable of fetching and executing a small portion of the NAND
  flash. Some NAND flash controllers have this kind of support. They
  usually limit the window to a few kilobytes in erase block 0. This
  "initial program loader" (IPL) must then contain sufficient logic to
  load and execute the next boot phase.

  Due to bad eraseblocks, which may be randomly scattered over the
  flash device, it is problematic to store the "secondary program
  loader" (SPL) statically. Also, due to bit-flips it may become
  corrupted over time. UBI allows to solve this problem gracefully by
  storing the SPL in a small static UBI volume.

UBI volumes vs. static partitions

  UBI volumes are still very similar to static MTD partitions:

    * both consist of eraseblocks (logical eraseblocks in case of UBI
      volumes, and physical eraseblocks in case of static partitions;
    * both support three basic operations - read, write, erase.

  But UBI volumes have the following advantages over traditional
  static MTD partitions:

    * there are no eraseblock wear-leveling constraints in case of UBI
      volumes, so the user should not care about this;
    * there are no bit-flips and bad eraseblocks in case of UBI volumes.

  So, UBI volumes may be considered as flash devices with relaxed
  restrictions.

Where can it be found?

  Documentation, kernel code and applications can be found in the MTD
  gits.

What are the applications for?

  The applications help to create binary flash images for two purposes: pfi
  files (partial flash images) for in-system update of UBI volumes, and plain
  binary images, with or without OOB data in case of NAND, for a manufacturing
  step. Furthermore some tools are/and will be created that allow flash content
  analysis after a system has crashed..

Who did UBI?

  The original ideas, where UBI is based on, were developed by Andreas
  Arnez, Frank Haverkamp and Thomas Gleixner. Josh W. Boyer and some others
  were involved too. The implementation of the kernel layer was done by Artem
  B. Bityutskiy. The user-space applications and tools were written by Oliver
  Lohmann with contributions from Frank Haverkamp, Andreas Arnez, and Artem.
  Joern Engel contributed a patch which modifies JFFS2 so that it can be run on
  a UBI volume. Thomas Gleixner did modifications to the NAND layer. Alexander
  Schmidt made some testing work as well as core functionality improvements.
