Only accept dynids whose driver_data value matches one of the driver's
pci_driver_id entries. This prevents the user from accidentally passing
values the drivers do not expect.

The driver flag dynids.use_driver_data is almost consistently not set,
and causes more problems than it solves. It was initially intended as a
flag to indicate whether a driver's usage of driver_data had been
carefully inspected and was ready for values from userspace. That audit
was never done, so most drivers just get a 0 for driver_data when new
IDs are added from userspace via sysfs. So remove the flag, allowing
drivers to see the data directly (a followon patch validates the passed
driver_data value against what the drivers expect).

Tejun's commit 7b595756ec made sysfs
attribute->owner unnecessary. But the field was left in the structure to
ease the merge. It's been over a year since that change and it is now
time to start killing attribute->owner along with its users - one arch at
a time!
This patch is attempt #1 to get rid of attribute->owner only for
CONFIG_X86_64 or CONFIG_X86_32 . We will deal with other arches later on
as and when possible - avr32 will be the next since that is something I
can test. Compile (make allyesconfig / make allmodconfig / custom config)
and boot tested.
akpm: the idea is that we put the declaration of sttribute.owner inside
`#ifndef CONFIG_X86'. But that proved to be too ambitious for now because
new usages kept on turning up in subsystem trees.

The cell_edac driver is setting the edac_mode field of the csrow's to an
incorrect value, causing the sysfs show routine for that field to go out
of an array bound and Oopsing the kernel when used.

It's OK to request the value of *any* GPIO; most GPIOs are bidirectional,
so configuring them as outputs just enables an output driver and doesn't
disable the input logic.
So the problem is that gpio_get_value_cansleep() isn't making the same
sanity check that gpio_get_value() does: making sure this GPIO isn't one
of the atypical "no input logic" cases.

gpiolib can export GPIOs to userspace via sysfs. This patch modifies the
gpio_value_show() so that any non-zero value is explicitly printed as "1",
rather than whatever numerical value the lower-level driver returns.

Teach rtc-cmos about the second bank of registers found on most modern x86
systems, giving access to 128 bytes more NVRAM.
This version only sees that extra NVRAM when both register banks are
provided as part of *one* PNP resource. Since BIOS on some systems
presents them using two IO resources, and nothing merges them, this can't
always show all the NVRAM. (We're supposed to be able to use PNP id
PNP0b01 too, but BIOS tables doesn't often seem to use that particular
option.)

The read fail ratio is sensitive to the delay between the first byte
written and the first byte read; apparently the sensors cannot be rushed.
Increasing the minimum wait time, without changing the total wait time,
improves the fail ratio from a 8% chance that any of the sensors fails in
one read, down to 0.4%, on a Macbook Air. On a Macbook Pro 3,1, the
effect is even more apparent. By reducing the number of status polls, the
ratio is further improved to below 0.1%. Finally, increasing the total
wait time brings the fail ratio down to virtually zero.

The time to wait for a status change while reading or writing to the SMC
ports is a balance between read reliability and system performance. The
current setting yields rougly three errors in a thousand when
simultaneously reading three different temperature values on a Macbook
Air. This patch increases the setting to a value yielding roughly one
error in ten thousand, with no noticable system performance degradation.

On many Macbooks since mid 2007, the Pro, C2D and Air models, applesmc
fails to read some or all SMC ports. This problem has various effects,
such as flooded logfiles, malfunctioning temperature sensors,
accelerometers failing to initialize, and difficulties getting backlight
functionality to work properly.
The root of the problem seems to be the command protocol. The current
code sends out a command byte, then repeatedly polls for an ack before
continuing to send or recieve data. From experiments leading to this
patch, it seems the command protocol never quite worked or changed so that
one now sends a command byte, waits a little bit, polls for an ack, and if
it fails, repeats the whole thing by sending the command byte again.
This patch implements a send_command function according to the new
interpretation of the protocol, and should work also for earlier models.

The thermistors use voltage channels to measure; so they don't have a
fault-alarm, but unlike the other voltages, they do have an overtemp,
which we call crit (by convention).

temp and vin status register values may be set by chip specifications, set
again by bios, or by this previously loaded driver. Debug output nicely
displays modprobe init=\d actions.

Bring hwmon/pc87360 into agreement with
Documentation/hwmon/sysfs-interface.
Patchset adds separate limit alarms for voltages and temps, it also adds
temp[123]_fault files. On my Soekris, temps 1,2 are unused/unconnected,
so temp[123]_fault = 1,1,0 respectively. This agrees with
/usr/bin/sensors, which has always shown them as OPEN. Temps 4,5,6 are
thermistor based, and dont have a fault bit in their status register.
This patch:
2 different kinds of constants added:
- CHAN_ALM_* constants for (later) vin, temp alarm callbacks.
- CHAN_* conversion constants, used in _init_device, partly for RW1C bits

On my HP 2510, pressing the (i) button generates an unknown keycode:
0x213b. So here is a patch adding support for it. However, as it seems
there is already support for a similar button connected to 0x231b as
keycode, I wonder if it could be a typo in the driver?

This patch adds a function to scan individual or all zones' unevictable
lists and move any pages that have become evictable onto the respective
zone's inactive list, where shrink_inactive_list() will deal with them.
Adds sysctl to scan all nodes, and per node attributes to individual
nodes' zones.
Kosaki: If evictable page found in unevictable lru when write
/proc/sys/vm/scan_unevictable_pages, print filename and file offset of
these pages.

Add NR_MLOCK zone page state, which provides a (conservative) count of
mlocked pages (actually, the number of mlocked pages moved off the LRU).

Split the LRU lists in two, one set for pages that are backed by real file
systems ("file") and one for pages that are backed by memory and swap
("anon"). The latter includes tmpfs.
The advantage of doing this is that the VM will not have to scan over lots
of anonymous pages (which we generally do not want to swap out), just to
find the page cache pages that it should evict.
This patch has the infrastructure and a basic policy to balance how much
we scan the anon lists and how much we scan the file lists. The big
policy changes are in separate patches.

SH7723 has two types of SCIF (SCIF and SCIFA).

Simplify twl4030 IRQ handling by removing a needless custom flow
handler. The top level IRQs, from the PIH, are well suited for
handle_simple_irq() ... they can't be acked or masked.
Switching resolves some issues with how IRQs were dispatched.
Notably, abuse of desc->status, IRQ accounting, and handling
of various faults.
In short, use standard genirq code.
Drivers that request_irq() to the PIH will need to pay more
attention to things like setting IRQF_DISABLED (since it's
no longer ignored), and making I2C calls from handlers (you'll
need a lockdep workaround).

DA9030 (a.k.a ARAVA) and DA9034 (a.k.a MICCO) are PMICs designed by
Dialog Semiconductor, usually found on PXA-based platforms. These
PMICs are I2C-based, multi-function devices, usually with LEDs, PWMs
for backlight, BUCKs and LDOs, ADCs and touchscreen controller (on
DA9034).
This is the base support for the I2C operations, event registration
and handling, sub-devices management.

This patch adds the core of the TWL4030 driver, which supports
chips including the TPS65950. These chips are multi-function; see
http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tps65950.html
Public specs are in the works. For now, the block diagram on
the second page of the datasheet is fairly informative.
There are some known issues with this core code. Most notably,
the IRQ dispatching needs simplification (to use more of genirq),
generalization (integrating support for secondary IRQ dispatch
as well as primary, and removing the build dependency on OMAP),
and then probably updating to leverage threaded IRQ support
(expected to arrive in mainline "soon").
Once the core is in mainline, drivers for other parts of this
chip can follow its lead and start swimming upstream too.

As requested by Ian make state restore only if it's requested
by platform data: some platforms do correctly save the state of
the chip during suspend/resume, but some (like tosa) incorrectly
power off the chip at suspend, so the driver supports restoring
some bits of the tc6393xb state (not full, merely enough to support
resume on tosa). With this patch this code is disabled by default.

The CFI information read from AT49BV6416 lists the erase regions in the
wrong order, causing problems when trying to erase or update the first
or last 64KiB block.
Work around this by inverting the "top boot" flag, which will
effectively reverse the order of the erase regions.
This chip is obsolete, but it's used in some existing designs.

This patch adds TopBottom detection for most Macronix chips with CFI V1.0.
The main purpose of this patch is to add detection of the MX29LV400C B
used on the LaCie Ethernet Disk mini V2 NAS.
It detects the following parts correctly:-
MX28F640C3B T
MX29LV002C B
MX29LV002NC B
MX29LV004C T
MX29LV400C T/B
MX29LV800C T/B
MX29LV160C T/B
MX29SL800C T/B
MX29SL802C T/B
It detects the following uniform part as bottom but it should work
correctly:-
MX29LV040C
For T parts it causes the erase block table to be reversed correctly.
For other parts it avoids the bogus "Assuming top" message.
It does not detect the following correctly:-

MX29LV002NC T
MX29LV004C B
MX29SL400C T/B
MX29SL402C T/B
If desired I could supply a more complicated patch to handle these as
well.
Only the MX29LV400C B has been physically tested; others were checked

Add a magic number to logged kernel oops messages so that they

The original code didn't respond correctly to get status request on
device and endpoint. Although normal operations can work without the
fix. It is not compliant with USB spec chapter9 and fails USBCV ch9
tests. The patch fix this and a few style/typo problems.

In some circumstances when fsl_udc_probe fails udc_controller is freed but
the pointer remains non-NULL. fsl_udc_remove will then try and teardown
the partly initialized and freed controller structure resulting in an oops.
This patch ensures udc_controller is either NULL or fully initialized after
fsl_udc_probe.

Add range check on buffer sizes passed in from user space
(max is 8*PAGE_SIZE) which will work for the most common
spectrometers even at pages as small as 1K.
Add kref to vst device structure to preserve reference to the
usb object until we truly are done with it.

This patch (as1149) fixes an obscure problem in OHCI polling. In the
current code, if the RHSC interrupt status flag turns on at a time
when RHSC interrupts are disabled, it will remain on forever:
The interrupt handler is the only place where RHSC status
gets turned back off;
The interrupt handler won't turn RHSC status off because it
doesn't turn off status flags if the corresponding interrupt
isn't enabled;
RHSC interrupts will never get enabled because
ohci_root_hub_state_changes() doesn't reenable RHSC if RHSC
status is on!
As a result we will continue polling indefinitely instead of reverting
to interrupt-driven operation, and the root hub will not autosuspend.
This particular sequence of events is not at all unusual; in fact
plugging a USB device into an OHCI controller will usually cause it to
occur.
Of course, this is a bug. The proper thing to do is to turn off RHSC
status just before reading the actual port status values. That way
either a port status change will be detected (if it occurs before the
status read) or it will turn RHSC back on. Possibly both, but that
won't hurt anything.
We can still check for systems in which RHSC is totally broken, by
re-reading RHSC after clearing it and before reading the port
statuses. (This re-read has to be done anyway, to post the earlier
write.) If RHSC is on but no port-change statuses are set, then we
know that RHSC is broken and we can avoid re-enabling it.

This patch adds initial_descriptor_timeout module parameter for usbcore.ko
to allow modify initial 64-byte USB_REQ_GET_DESCRIPTOR timeout for
non-standard devices.
For example, the SATA8000 device from DATAST0R Technology Corp
requires about 10 seconds to send reply (probably it waits until
inserted disk is ready for operation).
Also, this patch adds missing usbcore parameters to
Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt.

Create a new sysfs file per interface named supports_autosuspend. This
file returns true if an interface driver's .supports_autosuspend flag is
set. It also returns true if the interface is unclaimed (since the USB
core will autosuspend a device if an interface is not claimed).
This new sysfs file will be useful for user space scripts to test whether
a USB device correctly auto-suspends.

This patch (as1147) fixes the remote-wakeup support for EHCI
controllers using the ARC/TDI "embedded-TT" core. These controllers
turn off the RESUME bit by themselves when a port resume is complete;
hence we need to keep separate track of which ports are suspended or
in the process of resuming.
The patch also makes a couple of small improvements in ehci_irq(),
replacing reads of the command register with the value already stored
in a local variable.

This patch (as1139) adds a warning to the system log whenever ehci-hcd
is loaded after ohci-hcd or uhci-hcd. Nowadays most distributions are
pretty good about not doing this; maybe the warning will help convince
anyone still doing it wrong.

The kernel doc for usb_bulk_msg() says the timeout for a bulk message should be
specified in milliseconds. The ftdi-elan driver converts milliseconds to
jiffies before passing the timeout to usb_bulk_msg(). This is mostly harmless,
since it will just lead to very long timeouts, but was obviously not the intent
of the original author.

In case of error, the function isp1760_register returns an ERR
pointer, but never returns a NULL pointer. So after a call to this
function, a NULL test should be replaced by an IS_ERR test. Moreover,
we have noticed that:
(1) the result of isp1760_register is assigned through the function
pci_set_drvdata without an error test,
(2) if the call to isp1760_register fails, the current function
(isp1761_pci_probe) returns 0, and if it succeeds, it returns -ENOMEM,
which seems odd.
Thus, we suggest to move the test before the call to pci_set_drvdata
to correct (1), and to turn it into a non IS_ERR test to correct (2).

ehci_watchdog will wake up CPU very frequently so that CPU
stays at C3 very short, average residence time is about 50
ms on Aspire One, but we expect it should be about 1 second
or more, so this kind of periodic timer is very bad for power
saving.
We can't remove this timer because of some bad USB controller
chipset, but at least we should reduce its side effect to as
possible as low.
This patch can make CPU stay at C3 longer, average residence time
is about twice as long as original.

This patch (as1140) adds a little intelligence to the interrupt-URB
scheduler in uhci-hcd. Right now the scheduler is stupid; every URB
having the same period is assigned to the same slot. Thus a large
group of period-N URBs can fill their slot and cause -ENOSPC errors
even when all the lower-period slots are empty.
With the patch, if an URB doesn't fit in its assigned slot then the
scheduler will try using lower-period slots. This will provide
greater flexibility. As an example, the driver will be able to handle
more than just three or four mice, which the current driver cannot.

This patch adds the vstusb driver to the drivers/usb/misc directory.
This driver provides support for Vernier Software & Technology
spectrometers, all made by Ocean Optics. The driver provides both IOCTL
and read()/write() methods for sending raw data to spectrometers across
the bulk channel. Each method allows for a configured timeout.

Bugfix for the new CDC Ethernet code: as part of activating the
network interface's USB link, make sure its link management code
knows whether the interface is open or not.
Without this fix, the link won't work right when it's brought up
before the link is active ... because the initial notification it
sends will have the wrong link state (down, not up). Makes it
hard to bridge these links (on the host side), among other things.

This patch addresses some OMAP2 differences ... there's another, with
respect to the double-buffering issue with PIO-IN in omap_ep_setup()
(which is now out of sync with the comments), but it's not clear right
now how to address that.

* rely on gpiolib framework conversion for the I2C GPIOs
* the <asm/arch/hdrc_cnf.h> mechanism has been removed
- catch comments up to the recent removal of the per-SOC header
with the silicon configuration data;
- and remove two inappropriate "inline" declarations which
just bloat host side code.
There are still some more <asm/arch/XYZ.h> ==> <mach/XYZ.h>
changes needed in this driver, catching up to the relocation
of most of the include/asm-arm/arch-* contents.
