Viresh Kumar 052c6f1914 PM / OPP: Move away from RCU locking
The RCU locking isn't well suited for the OPP core. The RCU locking fits
better for reader heavy stuff, while the OPP core have at max one or two
readers only at a time.

Over that, it was getting very confusing the way RCU locking was used
with the OPP core. The individual OPPs are mostly well handled, i.e. for
an update a new structure was created and then that replaced the older
one. But the OPP tables were updated directly all the time from various
parts of the core. Though they were mostly used from within RCU locked
region, they didn't had much to do with RCU and were governed by the
mutex instead.

And that mixed with the 'opp_table_lock' has made the core even more
confusing.

Now that we are already managing the OPPs and the OPP tables with kernel
reference infrastructure, we can get rid of RCU locking completely and
simplify the code a lot.

Remove all RCU references from code and comments.

Acquire opp_table->lock while parsing the list of OPPs though.

Viresh Kumar 5b650b3888 PM / OPP: Take kref from _find_opp_table()
Take reference of the OPP table from within _find_opp_table(). Also
update the callers of _find_opp_table() to call
dev_pm_opp_put_opp_table() after they have used the OPP table.

Note that _find_opp_table() increments the reference under the
opp_table_lock.

Now that the OPP table wouldn't get freed until the callers of

Viresh Kumar 8a31d9d942 PM / OPP: Update OPP users to put reference
This patch updates dev_pm_opp_find_freq_*() routines to get a reference
to the OPPs returned by them.

Also updates the users of dev_pm_opp_find_freq_*() routines to call
dev_pm_opp_put() after they are done using the OPPs.

As it is guaranteed the that OPPs wouldn't get freed while being used,
the RCU read side locking present with the users isn't required anymore.
Drop it as well.

This patch also updates all users of devfreq_recommended_opp() which was
returning an OPP received from the OPP core.

Note that some of the OPP core routines have gained
rcu_read_{lock|unlock}() calls, as those still use RCU specific APIs
within them.

Viresh Kumar b83c1899a0 PM / OPP: Use dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table() instead of _add_opp_table()
Migrate all users of _add_opp_table() to use dev_pm_opp_get_opp_table()

Viresh Kumar fa30184d19 PM / OPP: Return opp_table from dev_pm_opp_set_*() routines
Now that we have proper kernel reference infrastructure in place for OPP
tables, use it to guarantee that the OPP table isn't freed while being
used by the callers of dev_pm_opp_set_*() APIs.

Make them all return the pointer to the OPP table after taking its

Viresh Kumar f067a982ce PM / OPP: Add 'struct kref' to OPP table
Add kref to struct opp_table for easier accounting of the OPP table.

Two separate release mechanisms are added: locked and unlocked. In
unlocked version the routines aren't required to take/drop

to avoid breaking git bisect, otherwise we may get lockdeps between

Viresh Kumar 8cd2f6e8f3 PM / OPP: Don't allocate OPP table from _opp_allocate()
There is no point in trying to find/allocate the table for every OPP

Locking is removed from _opp_add_static_v2() and _opp_add_v1() now as
the callers call them with that lock already held.

Call to _remove_opp_table() routine is also removed from _opp_free()
now, as opp_table isn't allocated from within _opp_allocate(). This is

Viresh Kumar 969fceb3c7 PM / OPP: Add light weight _opp_free() routine
The OPPs which are never successfully added using _opp_add() are not
required to be freed with the _opp_remove() routine, as a simple kfree()
is enough for them.

Introduce a new light weight routine _opp_free(), which will do that.

That also helps us removing the 'notify' parameter to _opp_remove(),
which isn't required anymore.

Note that _opp_free() contains a call to _remove_opp_table() as the OPP
table might have been added for this very OPP only. The
_remove_opp_table() routine returns quickly if there are more OPPs in
the table. This will be simplified in later patches though.

Viresh Kumar 7f8538ebae PM / OPP: Fix memory leak while adding duplicate OPPs
There are two types of duplicate OPPs that get different behavior from
the core:
A) An earlier OPP is marked 'available' and has same freq/voltages as
   the new one.
B) An earlier OPP with same frequency, but is marked 'unavailable' OR
doesn't have same voltages as the new one.

The OPP core returns 0 for the first one, but -EEXIST for the second.

While the OPP core returns 0 for the first case, its callers don't free
the newly allocated OPP structure which isn't used anymore. Fix that by
returning -EBUSY instead of 0, but make the callers return 0 eventually.

As this isn't a critical fix, its not getting marked for stable kernel.

Luis R. Rodriguez 191e885a2e firmware: fix NULL pointer dereference in __fw_load_abort()
Since commit 5d47ec02c3 ("firmware: Correct handling of
fw_state_wait() return value") fw_load_abort() could be called twice and
lead us to a kernel crash. This happens only when the firmware fallback
mechanism (regular or custom) is used. The fallback mechanism exposes a
sysfs interface for userspace to upload a file and notify the kernel
when the file is loaded and ready, or to cancel an upload by echo'ing -1
into on the loading file:

echo -n "-1" > /sys/$DEVPATH/loading

This will call fw_load_abort(). Some distributions actually have a udev
rule in place to *always* immediately cancel all firmware fallback
mechanism requests (Debian), they have:

  $ cat /lib/udev/rules.d/50-firmware.rules
  # stub for immediately telling the kernel that userspace firmware loading
  # failed; necessary to avoid long timeouts with CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER=y
  SUBSYSTEM=="firmware", ACTION=="add", ATTR{loading}="-1

Distributions with this udev rule would run into this crash only if the
fallback mechanism is used. Since most distributions disable by default
using the fallback mechanism (CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_FALLBACK),
this would typicaly mean only 2 drivers which *require* the fallback
mechanism could typically incur a crash: drivers/firmware/dell_rbu.c and
the drivers/leds/leds-lp55xx-common.c driver. Distributions enabling
CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_FALLBACK by default are obviously more
exposed to this crash.

The crash happens because after commit 5b02962494 ("firmware: do not
use fw_lock for fw_state protection") and subsequent fix commit
5d47ec02c3 ("firmware: Correct handling of fw_state_wait() return
value") a race can happen between this cancelation and the firmware
fw_state_wait_timeout() being woken up after a state change with which
fw_load_abort() as that calls swake_up(). Upon error
fw_state_wait_timeout() will also again call fw_load_abort() and trigger
a null reference.

At first glance we could just fix this with a !buf check on
fw_load_abort() before accessing buf->fw_st, however there is a logical
issue in having a state machine used for the fallback mechanism and
preventing access from it once we abort as its inside the buf
(buf->fw_st).

The firmware_class.c code is setting the buf to NULL to annotate an
abort has occurred. Replace this mechanism by simply using the state
check instead. All the other code in place already uses similar checks
for aborting as well so no further changes are needed.

An oops can be reproduced with the new fw_fallback.sh fallback mechanism
cancellation test. Either cancelling the fallback mechanism or the
custom fallback mechanism triggers a crash.

mcgrof@piggy ~/linux-next/tools/testing/selftests/firmware
(git::20170111-fw-fixes)$ sudo ./fw_fallback.sh

./fw_fallback.sh: timeout works
./fw_fallback.sh: firmware comparison works
./fw_fallback.sh: fallback mechanism works

[ this then sits here when it is trying the cancellation test ]

Yasuaki Ishimatsu 8a1f780e7f memory_hotplug: make zone_can_shift() return a boolean value
online_{kernel|movable} is used to change the memory zone to
ZONE_{NORMAL|MOVABLE} and online the memory.

To check that memory zone can be changed, zone_can_shift() is used.
Currently the function returns minus integer value, plus integer
value and 0. When the function returns minus or plus integer value,
it means that the memory zone can be changed to ZONE_{NORNAL|MOVABLE}.

But when the function returns 0, there are two meanings.

One of the meanings is that the memory zone does not need to be changed.
For example, when memory is in ZONE_NORMAL and onlined by online_kernel
the memory zone does not need to be changed.

Another meaning is that the memory zone cannot be changed. When memory
is in ZONE_NORMAL and onlined by online_movable, the memory zone may
not be changed to ZONE_MOVALBE due to memory online limitation(see
Documentation/memory-hotplug.txt). In this case, memory must not be
onlined.

The patch changes the return type of zone_can_shift() so that memory
online operation fails when memory zone cannot be changed as follows:

Before applying patch:
   # grep -A 35 "Node 2" /proc/zoneinfo
   Node 2, zone Normal
   <snip>
      node_scanned 0
           spanned 8388608
           present 7864320
           managed 7864320
   # echo online_movable > memory4097/state
   # grep -A 35 "Node 2" /proc/zoneinfo
   Node 2, zone Normal
   <snip>
      node_scanned 0
           spanned 8388608
           present 8388608
           managed 8388608

online_movable operation succeeded. But memory is onlined as
   ZONE_NORMAL, not ZONE_MOVABLE.

After applying patch:
   # grep -A 35 "Node 2" /proc/zoneinfo
   Node 2, zone Normal
   <snip>
      node_scanned 0
           spanned 8388608
           present 7864320

Charles Keepax 2cf8e2dfdf regmap: Fixup the kernel-doc comments on functions/structures
Most of the kernel-doc comments in regmap don't actually generate
correctly. This patch fixes up a few common issues, corrects some typos
and adds some missing argument descriptions.

The most common issues being using a : after the function name which
causes the short description to not render correctly and not separating
the long and short descriptions of the function. There are quite a few
instances of arguments not being described or given the wrong name as
well.

This patch doesn't fixup functions/structures that are currently missing
descriptions.

Augusto Mecking Caringi ab51e6ba00 PM / domains: Fix 'may be used uninitialized' build warning
This patch fixes the following gcc warning:

drivers/base/power/domain.c: In function ‘genpd_runtime_resume’:
drivers/base/power/domain.c:642:14: warning: ‘time_start’ may be used
uninitialized in this function [-Wmaybe-uninitialized]
   elapsed_ns = ktime_to_ns(ktime_sub(ktime_get(), time_start)

Linus Torvalds d33d5a6c88 avoid spurious "may be used uninitialized" warning
The timer type simplifications caused a new gcc warning:

  drivers/base/power/domain.c: In function ‘genpd_runtime_suspend’:
drivers/base/power/domain.c:562:14: warning: ‘time_start’ may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wmaybe-uninitialized]
     elapsed_ns = ktime_to_ns(ktime_sub(ktime_get(), time_start));

despite the actual use of "time_start" not having changed in any way.
It appears that simply changing the type of ktime_t from a union to a
plain scalar type made gcc check the use.

The variable wasn't actually used uninitialized, but gcc apparently
failed to notice that the conditional around the use was exactly the
same as the conditional around the initialization of that variable.

Add an unnecessary initialization just to shut up the compiler.

Thomas Gleixner 8b0e195314 ktime: Cleanup ktime_set() usage
ktime_set(S,N) was required for the timespec storage type and is still
useful for situations where a Seconds and Nanoseconds part of a time value
needs to be converted. For anything where the Seconds argument is 0, this
is pointless and can be replaced with a simple assignment.

Thomas Gleixner 2456e85535 ktime: Get rid of the union
ktime is a union because the initial implementation stored the time in
scalar nanoseconds on 64 bit machine and in a endianess optimized timespec
variant for 32bit machines. The Y2038 cleanup removed the timespec variant
and switched everything to scalar nanoseconds. The union remained, but
become completely pointless.

Get rid of the union and just keep ktime_t as simple typedef of type s64.

Linus Torvalds eb254f323b Merge branch 'x86-cache-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull x86 cache allocation interface from Thomas Gleixner:
"This provides support for Intel's Cache Allocation Technology, a cache
  partitioning mechanism.

The interface is odd, but the hardware interface of that CAT stuff is
  odd as well.

We tried hard to come up with an abstraction, but that only allows
rather simple partitioning, but no way of sharing and dealing with the
per package nature of this mechanism.

In the end we decided to expose the allocation bitmaps directly so all
combinations of the hardware can be utilized.

There are two ways of associating a cache partition:

   - Task

A task can be added to a resource group. It uses the cache
     partition associated to the group.

   - CPU

All tasks which are not member of a resource group use the group to
which the CPU they are running on is associated with.

That allows for simple CPU based partitioning schemes.

  The main expected user sare:

   - Virtualization so a VM can only trash only the associated part of
     the cash w/o disturbing others

   - Real-Time systems to seperate RT and general workloads.

   - Latency sensitive enterprise workloads

   - In theory this also can be used to protect against cache side
     channel attacks"

[ Intel RDT is "Resource Director Technology". The interface really is
rather odd and very specific, which delayed this pull request while I
was thinking about it. The pull request itself came in early during
the merge window, I just delayed it until things had calmed down and I
  had more time.

But people tell me they'll use this, and the good news is that it is
_so_ specific that it's rather independent of anything else, and no
user is going to depend on the interface since it's pretty rare. So if
push comes to shove, we can just remove the interface and nothing will
  break ]

Linus Torvalds 098c30557a Driver core patches for 4.10-rc1
Here's the new driver core patches for 4.10-rc1.

Big thing here is the nice addition of "functional dependencies" to the
driver core. The idea has been talked about for a very long time, great
job to Rafael for stepping up and implementing it. It's been tested for
longer than the 4.9-rc1 date, we held off on merging it earlier in order
to feel more comfortable about it.

Other than that, it's just a handful of small other patches, some good
cleanups to the mess that is the firmware class code, and we have a test
driver for the deferred probe logic.

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 issues.

"This is the final round of converting the notifier mess to the state

The whole exercise removed about 2000 lines of code in total and in
course of the conversion several dozen bugs got fixed. The new

Bjorn Andersson 5d47ec02c3 firmware: Correct handling of fw_state_wait() return value
When request_firmware() finds an already open firmware object it will
wait for that object to become fully loaded and then check the status.
As __fw_state_wait_common() succeeds the timeout value returned will be
truncated in _request_firmware_prepare() and interpreted as -EPERM.

Prior to "firmware: do not use fw_lock for fw_state protection" the code
did test if we where in the "done" state before sleeping, causing this
particular code path to succeed, in some cases.

As the callers are interested in the result of the wait and not the
remaining timeout the return value of __fw_state_wait_common() is
changed to signal "done" or "error", which simplifies the logic in
_request_firmware_load() as well.

Sahitya Tummala 05a9262277 PM / core: Fix bug in the error handling of async suspend
If async_suspend is enabled for parent and child devices, then
PM framework has to ensure that parent's async suspend gets called
only after child's async suspend is done. In case if child's async
suspend fails with error, then parent's async suspend must not be
invoked. The current code uses async_error to ensure this but there
is a problem with it in __device_suspend(). This function notifies
the completion of child's async suspend before updating its error
via async_error variable. As a result, parent's async suspend gets
invoked even though it's child suspend has failed. Fix this bug by
updating the async_error before notifying the child's completion.

Tony Lindgren bed570307e PM / wakeirq: Fix dedicated wakeirq for drivers not using autosuspend
I noticed some wakeirq flakeyness with consumer drivers not using
autosuspend. For drivers not using autosuspend, the wakeirq may never
get unmasked in rpm_suspend() because of irq desc->depth.

We are configuring dedicated wakeirqs to start with IRQ_NOAUTOEN as we
naturally don't want them running until rpm_suspend() is called.

However, when a consumer driver initially calls pm_runtime_get(), we
now wrongly start with disable_irq_nosync() call on the dedicated
wakeirq that is disabled to start with.

This causes desc->depth to toggle between 1 and 2 instead of the usual
0 and 1. This can prevent enable_irq() from unmasking the wakeirq as
that only happens at desc->depth 1.

This does not necessarily show up with drivers using autosuspend as
there is time for disable_irq_nosync() before rpm_suspend() gets called
after the autosuspend timeout.

Let's fix the issue by adding wirq->status that lazily gets set on
the first rpm_suspend(). We also need PM runtime core private functions
for dev_pm_enable_wake_irq_check() and dev_pm_disable_wake_irq_check()
so we can enable the dedicated wakeirq on the first rpm_suspend().

While at it, let's also fix the comments for dev_pm_enable_wake_irq()
and dev_pm_disable_wake_irq(). Those can still be used by the consumer
drivers as needed because the IRQ core manages the interrupt usecount
for us.

Stephen Boyd 91291d9ad9 PM / OPP: Pass opp_table to dev_pm_opp_put_regulator()
Joonyoung Shim reported an interesting problem on his ARM octa-core
Odoroid-XU3 platform. During system suspend, dev_pm_opp_put_regulator()
was failing for a struct device for which dev_pm_opp_set_regulator() is
called earlier.

This happened because an earlier call to
dev_pm_opp_of_cpumask_remove_table() function (from cpufreq-dt.c file)
removed all the entries from opp_table->dev_list apart from the last CPU
device in the cpumask of CPUs sharing the OPP.

But both dev_pm_opp_set_regulator() and dev_pm_opp_put_regulator()
routines get CPU device for the first CPU in the cpumask. And so the OPP
core failed to find the OPP table for the struct device.

This patch attempts to fix this problem by returning a pointer to the
opp_table from dev_pm_opp_set_regulator() and using that as the
parameter to dev_pm_opp_put_regulator(). This ensures that the
dev_pm_opp_put_regulator() doesn't fail to find the opp table.

Note that similar design problem also exists with other
dev_pm_opp_put_*() APIs, but those aren't used currently by anyone and
so we don't need to update them for now.

Daniel Wagner 5b02962494 firmware: do not use fw_lock for fw_state protection
fw_lock is to use to protect 'corner cases' inside firmware_class. It
is not exactly clear what those corner cases are nor what it exactly
protects. fw_state can be used without needing the fw_lock to protect
its state transition and wake ups.

fw_state is holds the state in status and the completion is used to
wake up all waiters (in this case that is the user land helper so only
one). This operation has to be 'atomic' to avoid races. We can do this
by using swait which takes care we don't miss any wake up.

We use also swait instead of wait because don't need all the additional
features wait provides.

Note there some more cleanups possible after with this change. For
example for !CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER we don't check for the state
anymore. Let's to this in the next patch instead mingling to many
changes into this one. And yes you get a gcc warning "‘__fw_state_check’

Yves-Alexis Perez 2e700f8d85 firmware: fix usermode helper fallback loading
When you use the firmware usermode helper fallback with a timeout value set to a
value greater than INT_MAX (2147483647) a cast overflow issue causes the
timeout value to go negative and breaks all usermode helper loading. This
regression was introduced through commit 68ff2a00db ("firmware_loader:
handle timeout via wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout()") on kernel
v4.0.

The firmware_class drivers relies on the firmware usermode helper
fallback as a mechanism to look for firmware if the direct filesystem
search failed only if:

  a) You've enabled CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_FALLBACK (not many distros):

Then all of these callers will rely on the fallback mechanism in case
the firmware is not found through an initial direct filesystem lookup:

  o request_firmware()
  o request_firmware_into_buf()
  o request_firmware_nowait()

  b) If you've only enabled CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER (most distros):

Then only callers using request_firmware_nowait() with the second
argument set to false, this explicitly is requesting the UMH firmware
fallback to be relied on in case the first filesystem lookup fails.

Using Coccinelle SmPL grammar we have identified only two drivers
explicitly requesting the UMH firmware fallback mechanism:

  - drivers/firmware/dell_rbu.c
  - drivers/leds/leds-lp55xx-common.c

Since most distributions only enable CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER the
biggest impact of this regression are users of the dell_rbu and
leds-lp55xx-common device driver which required the UMH to find their
respective needed firmwares.

The default timeout for the UMH is set to 60 seconds always, as of
commit 68ff2a00db ("firmware_loader: handle timeout via
wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout()") the timeout was bumped
to MAX_JIFFY_OFFSET ((LONG_MAX >> 1)-1). Additionally the MAX_JIFFY_OFFSET
value was also used if the timeout was configured by a user to 0.

The following works:

echo 2147483647 > /sys/class/firmware/timeout

But both of the following set the timeout to MAX_JIFFY_OFFSET even if
we display 0 back to userspace:

echo 2147483648 > /sys/class/firmware/timeout
cat /sys/class/firmware/timeout
0

echo 0> /sys/class/firmware/timeout
cat /sys/class/firmware/timeout
0

A max value of INT_MAX (2147483647) seconds is therefore implicit due to the
another cast with simple_strtol().

This fixes the secondary cast (the first one is simple_strtol() but its an
issue only by forcing an implicit limit) by re-using the timeout variable and
only setting retval in appropriate cases.

Lastly worth noting systemd had ripped out the UMH firmware fallback
mechanism from udev since udev 2014 via commit be2ea723b1d023b3d
("udev: remove userspace firmware loading support"), so as of systemd v217.

Kirtika Ruchandani e22defeb98 drivers/base/memory.c: Remove unused 'first_page' variable
Commit 71fbd556ad ("memory-hotplug: remove redundant call of page_to_pfn")

useless in memory_block_action(). Compiling with W=1 gives the
following warning, fix it.

Chen Yu ba58d1020a timekeeping: Ignore the bogus sleep time if pm_trace is enabled
Power management suspend/resume tracing (ab)uses the RTC to store
suspend/resume information persistently. As a consequence the RTC value is
clobbered when timekeeping is resumed and tries to inject the sleep time.

Commit a4f8f6667f ("timekeeping: Cap array access in timekeeping_debug")
plugged a out of bounds array access in the timekeeping debug code which
was caused by the clobbered RTC value, but we still use the clobbered RTC
value for sleep time injection into kernel timekeeping, which will result
in random adjustments depending on the stored "hash" value.

To prevent this keep track of the RTC clobbering and ignore the invalid RTC
timestamp at resume. If the system resumed successfully clear the flag,
which marks the RTC as unusable, warn the user about the RTC clobber and
recommend to adjust the RTC with 'ntpdate' or 'rdate'.

Ulf Hansson 1d9174fbc5 PM / Runtime: Defer resuming of the device in pm_runtime_force_resume()
When the pm_runtime_force_suspend|resume() helpers were invented, we still
had CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME and CONFIG_PM_SLEEP as separate Kconfig options.

To make sure these helpers worked for all combinations and without
introducing too much of complexity, the device was always resumed in
pm_runtime_force_resume().

More precisely, when CONFIG_PM_SLEEP was set and CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME was
unset, we needed to resume the device as the subsystem/driver couldn't
rely on using runtime PM to do it.

As the CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME option was merged into CONFIG_PM a while ago, it
removed this combination, of using CONFIG_PM_SLEEP without the earlier
CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME.

For this reason we can now rely on the subsystem/driver to use runtime PM
to resume the device, instead of forcing that to be done in all cases. In
other words, let's defer the runtime resume to a later point when it's
actually needed.

Brian Norris 6f75c3fd56 PM / sleep: don't suspend parent when async child suspend_{noirq, late} fails
Consider two devices, A and B, where B is a child of A, and B utilizes
asynchronous suspend (it does not matter whether A is sync or async). If
B fails to suspend_noirq() or suspend_late(), or is interrupted by a
wakeup (pm_wakeup_pending()), then it aborts and sets the async_error
variable. However, device A does not (immediately) check the async_error
variable; it may continue to run its own suspend_noirq()/suspend_late()
callback. This is bad.

We can resolve this problem by doing our error and wakeup checking
(particularly, for the async_error flag) after waiting for children to
suspend, instead of before. This also helps align the logic for the noirq and
late suspend cases with the logic in __device_suspend().

It's easy to observe this erroneous behavior by, for example, forcing a
device to sleep a bit in its suspend_noirq() (to ensure the parent is
waiting for the child to complete), then return an error, and watch the
parent suspend_noirq() still get called. (Or similarly, fake a wakeup
event at the right (or is it wrong?) time.)

Sudeep Holla dfea747d2a drivers: base: cacheinfo: support DT overrides for cache properties
Few architectures like x86, ia64 and s390 derive the cache topology and
all the properties using a specific architected mechanism while some
other architectures like powerpc all those information id derived from
the device tree.

On ARM, both the mechanism is used. While all the cache properties can
be derived in a architected way, it needs to rely on device tree to get
the cache topology information.

However there are few platforms where this architected mechanism is
broken and the device tree properties can be used to override these
incorrect values.

This patch adds support for overriding the cache properties values to
the values specified in the device tree.

Sudeep Holla 55877ef45f drivers: base: cacheinfo: fix boot error message when acpi is enabled
ARM64 enables both CONFIG_OF and CONFIG_ACPI and the firmware can pass
both ACPI tables and the device tree. Based on the kernel parameter, one
of the two will be chosen. If acpi is enabled, then device tree is not
unflattened.

Currently ARM64 platforms report:
"
Failed to find cpu0 device node
Unable to detect cache hierarchy from DT for CPU 0
"
which is incorrect when booting with ACPI. Also latest ACPI v6.1 has no
support for cache properties/hierarchy.

This patch adds check for unflattened device tree and also returns as
"not supported" if ACPI is runtime enabled.

It also removes the reference to DT from the error message as the cache
hierarchy can be detected from the firmware(OF/DT/ACPI)

With CONFIG_OF enabled on x86, we get the following error on boot:
"
Failed to find cpu0 device node
Unable to detect cache hierarchy from DT for CPU 0

and the cacheinfo fails to get populated in the corresponding sysfs
entries. This is because cache_setup_of_node looks for of_node for
setting up the shared cpu_map without checking that it's already
populated in the architecture specific callback.

In order to indicate that the shared cpu_map is already populated, this
patch introduces a boolean `cpu_map_populated` in struct cpu_cacheinfo
that can be used by the generic code to skip cache_shared_cpu_map_setup.

This patch also sets that boolean for x86.

Dmitry Torokhov 79543cf2b1 driver-core: add test module for asynchronous probing
This test module tries to test asynchronous driver probing by having a
driver that sleeps for an extended period of time (5 secs) in its
probe() method. It measures the time needed to register this driver
(with device already registered) and a new device (with driver already
registered). The module will fail to load if the time spent in register
call is more than half the probing sleep time.

As a sanity check the driver will then try to synchronously register
driver and device and fail if registration takes less than half of the
probing sleep time.

Arnd Bergmann c97db7cc77 base: soc: Introduce soc_device_match() interface
We keep running into cases where device drivers want to know the exact
version of the a SoC they are currently running on. In the past, this has
usually been done through a vendor specific API that can be called by a
driver, or by directly accessing some kind of version register that is
not part of the device itself but that belongs to a global register area
of the chip.

Common reasons for doing this include:

- A machine is not using devicetree or similar for passing data about
on-chip devices, but just announces their presence using boot-time
platform devices, and the machine code itself does not care about the
  revision.

- There is existing firmware or boot loaders with existing DT binaries
with generic compatible strings that do not identify the particular
revision of each device, but the driver knows which SoC revisions
  include which part.

- A prerelease version of a chip has some quirks and we are using the same
version of the bootloader and the DT blob on both the prerelease and the
final version. An update of the DT binding seems inappropriate because
that would involve maintaining multiple copies of the dts and/or
  bootloader.

This patch introduces the soc_device_match() interface that is meant to
work like of_match_node() but instead of identifying the version of a
device, it identifies the SoC itself using a vendor-agnostic interface.

Unlike of_match_node(), we do not do an exact string compare but instead
use glob_match() to allow wildcards in strings.
