Alex Deucher 454d2e2a32 drm/radeon: add a asic callback to get the xclk
This is required to get the reference clock used
by the gfx engine for things like timestamps. Fixes
support for GL extensions the use timestamps on
certain boards.

Dave Airlie 3314fdf8b4 Merge branch 'drm-fb-helper' of git://people.freedesktop.org/~danvet/drm into drm-next
This is the drm fb helper cleanup, mostly motivated by strange things I've
seen in my locking rework and the i915 modeset revamp. Compared to the
original submission I've reinstated the setup flexibility you'd like to
retain, kerneldoc has been reviewed by Laurent Pinchart and Rob Clark
reviewed the code changes.

Quick overview of the changes:
- Cleaned-up library interface for drivers using the fb helper, also
simplified the fb allocation callback since no driver supported
reallocating the fb on-the-fly. And the fbdev/fbcon code keeps pointers
to the old mapping around anyway, so reallocating backing storage will
  be much more work.
- No longer call the crtc helper "disable everything" function at init
time, but allow drivers to do so. Motivated by i915's fastboot effort
and allows us to drop a bunch of noop dummy functions just to avoid
calling NULL function pointers from i915.ko.
- Properly clear old state when doing modeset calls, the fb helper left
some old modes in there and unconditionally set an fb (even when
disabling a crtc). The crtc helpers didn't care, but i915 modeset code
can now drop a few special cases.
- Full kerneldoc for the fb helper. Yay!
- My version of the "don't sleep in panic ->unblank calls". The patch is
already in -mm, I guess Andrew can drop it as soon as this pull lands in
  drm-next.

Daniel Vetter 76a39dbfb2 drm/fb-helper: don't disable everything in initial_config
This should be done in the drivers for two reasons:
- it gets in the way of fastboot efforts
- it links the fb helpers with the crtc helpers instead of going
through the real interface vfuncs, forcing i915 to fake all the
->disable callbacks used by the crtc helper to avoid ugly Oopsen

Dave Airlie 73ccd6962f Merge branch 'drm-next-3.9' of git://people.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/linux into drm-next
Alex writes:
- CS ioctl cleanup and unification. Unification of a lot of functionality
that was duplicated across multiple generates of hardware.
- Add support for Oland GPUs
- Deprecate UMS support. Mesa and the ddx dropped support for UMS and
apparently very few people still use it since the UMS CS ioctl was broken
for several kernels and no one reported it. It was fixed in 3.8/stable.
- Rework GPU reset. Use the status registers to determine what blocks
to reset. This better matches the recommended reset programming model.
This also allows us to properly reset blocks besides GFX and DMA.
- Switch the VM set page code to use an IB rather than the ring. This
fixes overflow issues when doing large page table updates using a small
ring like DMA.
- Several small cleanups and bug fixes.

Matt Fleming 83e6818974 efi: Make 'efi_enabled' a function to query EFI facilities
Originally 'efi_enabled' indicated whether a kernel was booted from
EFI firmware. Over time its semantics have changed, and it now
indicates whether or not we are booted on an EFI machine with
bit-native firmware, e.g. 64-bit kernel with 64-bit firmware.

The immediate motivation for this patch is the bug report at,

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1040557

which details how running a platform driver on an EFI machine that is
designed to run under BIOS can cause the machine to become
bricked. Also, the following report,

    https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47121

details how running said driver can also cause Machine Check
Exceptions. Drivers need a new means of detecting whether they're
running on an EFI machine, as sadly the expression,

    if (!efi_enabled)

hasn't been a sufficient condition for quite some time.

Users actually want to query 'efi_enabled' for different reasons -
what they really want access to is the list of available EFI
facilities.

For instance, the x86 reboot code needs to know whether it can invoke
the ResetSystem() function provided by the EFI runtime services, while
the ACPI OSL code wants to know whether the EFI config tables were
mapped successfully. There are also checks in some of the platform
driver code to simply see if they're running on an EFI machine (which
would make it a bad idea to do BIOS-y things).

This patch is a prereq for the samsung-laptop fix patch.

Ilija Hadzic 1da80cfa87 drm/radeon: fix a rare case of double kfree
If one (but not both) allocations of p->chunks[].kpage[]
in radeon_cs_parser_init fail, the error path will free
the successfully allocated page, but leave a stale pointer
value in the kpage[] field. This will later cause a
double-free when radeon_cs_parser_fini is called.
This patch fixes the issue by forcing both pointers to NULL
after kfree in the error path.

The circumstances under which the problem happens are very
rare. The card must be AGP and the system must run out of
kmalloc area just at the right time so that one allocation
succeeds, while the other fails.

Daniel Vetter 362063619c drm: revamp framebuffer cleanup interfaces
We have two classes of framebuffer
- Created by the driver (atm only for fbdev), and the driver holds
onto the last reference count until destruction.
- Created by userspace and associated with a given fd. These
framebuffers will be reaped when their assoiciated fb is closed.

Now these two cases are set up differently, the framebuffers are on
different lists and hence destruction needs to clean up different
things. Also, for userspace framebuffers we remove them from any
current usage, whereas for internal framebuffers it is assumed that
the driver has done this already.

Long story short, we need two different ways to cleanup such drivers.
Three functions are involved in total:
- drm_framebuffer_remove: Convenience function which removes the fb
from all active usage and then drops the passed-in reference.
- drm_framebuffer_unregister_private: Will remove driver-private
framebuffers from relevant lists and drop the corresponding
references. Should be called for driver-private framebuffers before
dropping the last reference (or like for a lot of the drivers where
the fbdev is embedded someplace else, before doing the cleanup
  manually).
- drm_framebuffer_cleanup: Final cleanup for both classes of fbs,
should be called by the driver's ->destroy callback once the last
  reference is gone.

This patch just rolls out the new interfaces and updates all drivers
(by adding calls to drm_framebuffer_unregister_private at all the
right places)- no functional changes yet. Follow-on patches will move
drm core code around and update the lifetime management for
framebuffers, so that we are no longer required to keep framebuffers
alive by locking mode_config.mutex.

I've also updated the kerneldoc already.

vmwgfx seems to again be a bit special, at least I haven't figured out
how the fbdev support in that driver works. It smells like it's
external though.

v2: The i915 driver creates another private framebuffer in the
load-detect code. Adjust its cleanup code, too.

Daniel Vetter dac35663ce drm: only take the crtc lock for ->cursor_move
->cursor_move uses mostly the same facilities in drivers as
->cursor_set, so pretty much nothing to fix up:

- ast/gma500/i915: They all use per-crtc registers to update the
cursor position. ast again touches the global cursor cache, but
that's ok since there's only one crtc.

- nouveau: nv50+ is again special, updates happen through the per-crtc
channel (without pushbufs), so it's not protected by the new evo
lock introduced earlier. But since this channel is per-crtc, we
  should be fine anyway.

- radeon: A bit a mess: avivo asics need a workaround when both output
pipes are enabled, which means it'll access the crtc list. Just
reading that flag is ok though as long as radeon _always_ grabs all
locks when changing the crtc configuration. Which means with the
current scheme it cannot do an optimized modeset which only locks
the relevant crtcs. This can be fixed though by introducing a bit of
global state with separate locks and ensure in the modeset code that
the cursor will be updated appropriately when enabling the 2nd pipe
  (on affected asics).

- vmwgfx: I still don't understand what it's doing exactly, so apply
  the same trick for now.

v2: Fixup unlocking for the error cases, spotted by Richard Wilbur.

v3: Another error-case fixup.

Daniel Vetter c7d73f6a8a drm/<drivers>: reorder framebuffer init sequence
With more fine-grained locking we can no longer rely on the big
mode_config lock to prevent concurrent access to mode resources
like framebuffers. Instead a framebuffer becomes accessible to
other threads as soon as it is added to the relevant lookup
structures. Hence it needs to be fully set up by the time drivers
call drm_framebuffer_init.

This patch here is the drivers part of that reorg. Nothing really fancy
going on safe for three special cases.

- exynos needs to be careful to properly unref all handles.
- nouveau gets a resource leak fixed for free: one of the error
cases didn't cleanup the framebuffer, which is now moot since
the framebuffer is only registered once it is fully set up.
- vmwgfx requires a slight reordering of operations, I'm hoping I didn't
break anything (but it's refcount management only, so should be safe).

v2: Split out exynos, since it's a bit more hairy than expected.

v3: Drop bogus cirrus hunk noticed by Richard Wilbur.

v4: Split out vmwgfx since there's a small change in return values.

Maarten Lankhorst 97a875cbdf drm/ttm: remove no_wait_reserve, v3
All items on the lru list are always reservable, so this is a stupid
thing to keep. Not only that, it is used in a way which would
guarantee deadlocks if it were ever to be set to block on reserve.

This is a lot of churn, but mostly because of the removal of the
argument which can be nested arbitrarily deeply in many places.

No change of code in this patch except removal of the no_wait_reserve
argument, the previous patch removed the use of no_wait_reserve.

v2:
 - Warn if -EBUSY is returned on reservation, all objects on the list
should be reservable. Adjusted patch slightly due to conflicts.
v3:
 - Focus on no_wait_reserve removal only.

The few places that care should have those checks instead.
This allows destruction of bo backed memory without a reservation.
It's required for being able to rework the delayed destroy path,

However any previous wait is still guaranteed to complete, and it's
one of the last things to be done before the buffer object is freed.

On all dual CRTC GPUs the CRTC_CRT_ON in the RADEON_CRTC_EXT_CNTL register
controls the CRTC of the primary DAC. Therefore it is set in the DAC DMPS
function.
This is different for GPU's with a single CRTC but a primary and a
TV DAC: here it controls the single CRTC no matter where it is routed.
Therefore we set it here. This avoids an elaborate on/off state tracking
since both primary_dac_dpms() and tv_dac_dpms() functions would have
to touch this bit.
On single CRTC GPUs with just one DAC it's irrelevant where this bit
is handled.

Daniel Vetter 1a644cd47c drm: extract dp link train delay functions from radeon
This requires a few changes since that dpcd value is above the
range currently cached by radeon. I've check the dp specs, and
above 0xf there's a big gap and nothing that looks like we should
cache it while a given device is plugged in. It's also the same value
that i915.ko uses.

Hence extend the various dpcd arrays in the radeon driver, use
proper symbolic constants where applicable (one place overallocated
the dpcd array to 25 bytes). Then also drop the rd_interval cache -
radeon_dp_link_train_init re-reads the dpcd block, so the values we'll
consume in train_cr and train_ce will always be fresh.

To avoid needless diff-churn, #define the old size of dpcd as the new
one and keep it around.

Merge tag 'uapi-prep-20121002' of git://git.infradead.org/users/dhowells/linux-headers

Pull preparatory patches for user API disintegration from David Howells:
"The patches herein prepare for the extraction of the Userspace API
bits from the various header files named in the Kbuild files.

New subdirectories are created under either include/uapi/ or
arch/x/include/uapi/ that correspond to the subdirectory containing
that file under include/ or arch/x/include/.

The new subdirs under the uapi/ directory are populated with Kbuild
files that mostly do nothing at this time. Further patches will
disintegrate the headers in each original directory and fill in the
Kbuild files as they do it.

  These patches also:

   (1) fix up #inclusions of "foo.h" rather than <foo.h>.

   (2) Remove some redundant #includes from the DRM code.

   (3) Make the kernel build infrastructure handle Kbuild files both in
the old places and the new UAPI place that both specify headers
       to be exported.

   (4) Fix some kernel tools that #include kernel headers during their
       build.

I have compile tested this with allyesconfig against x86_64,
allmodconfig against i386 and a scattering of additional defconfigs of
other arches. Prepared for main script

Linus Torvalds 033d9959ed Merge branch 'for-3.7' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tj/wq
Pull workqueue changes from Tejun Heo:
"This is workqueue updates for v3.7-rc1. A lot of activities this
round including considerable API and behavior cleanups.

   * delayed_work combines a timer and a work item. The handling of the
timer part has always been a bit clunky leading to confusing
cancelation API with weird corner-case behaviors. delayed_work is
updated to use new IRQ safe timer and cancelation now works as
     expected.

   * Another deficiency of delayed_work was lack of the counterpart of
mod_timer() which led to cancel+queue combinations or open-coded
     timer+work usages. mod_delayed_work[_on]() are added.

These two delayed_work changes make delayed_work provide interface
and behave like timer which is executed with process context.

   * A work item could be executed concurrently on multiple CPUs, which
is rather unintuitive and made flush_work() behavior confusing and
half-broken under certain circumstances. This problem doesn't
exist for non-reentrant workqueues. While non-reentrancy check
isn't free, the overhead is incurred only when a work item bounces
across different CPUs and even in simulated pathological scenario
     the overhead isn't too high.

All workqueues are made non-reentrant. This removes the
     distinction between flush_[delayed_]work() and
flush_[delayed_]_work_sync(). The former is now as strong as the
latter and the specified work item is guaranteed to have finished
execution of any previous queueing on return.

Dmitry Cherkasov fa87e62d35 drm/radeon: add 2-level VM pagetables support v9
PDE/PTE update code uses CP ring for memory writes.
All page table entries are preallocated for now in alloc_pt().

It is made as whole because it's hard to divide it to several patches
that compile and doesn't break anything being applied separately.

Tested on cayman card.

v2: rebased on top of "refactor set_page chipset interface v3",
    code cleanups

v3: switched offsets calc macros to inline funcs where possible,
    remove pd_addr from radeon_vm, switched RADEON_BLOCK_SIZE define,
    to 9 (and PTE_COUNT to 1 << BLOCK_SIZE)

v4 (ck): move "incr" documentation to previous patch, cleanup and
document RADEON_VM_* constants, change commit message to
our usual format, simplify patch allot by removing
everything current not necessary, disable SI workaround.

v5: (agd5f): Fix typo in tables_size calculation in
radeon_vm_alloc_pt(). Second line should have been
             '+=' rather than '='.

v6: fix npdes calculation. In scenario when pfns to be mapped overlap
two PDE spans:

   +-----------+-------------+
   | PDE span | PDE span |
   +-----------+----+--------+
          | |
          +---------+
          | pfns |
          +---------+

the following npdes calculation gives incorrect result:

npdes = (nptes >> RADEON_VM_BLOCK_SIZE) + 1;

For the case above picture it should give npdes = 2, but gives one.

This patch corrects it by rounding last pfn up to 512 border,
first - down to 512 border and then subtracting and dividing by 512.

v7: Make npde calculation clearer, fix ndw calculation.

v8: (agd5f): reserve enough for 2 full VM PTs, add some
             additional comments.

v9: fix typo in npde calculation

Alex Deucher 57b35e29cf drm/radeon: work around KMS modeset limitations in PLL allocation (v2)
Since the current KMS API sets the mode independantly on
each crtc, we may end up with resource conflicts. The PLL
allocation is one of those cases. In the following example
we have 3 crtcs in use driving 2 DVI connectors and 1 DP
connector. On the initial kernel modeset for fbdev, the
display topology ends up as follows:

crtc0 -> DP-0
crtc1 -> DVI-0
crtc2 -> DVI-1

Because this is the first modeset, all of the PLLs are
available as none have been assigned. So we end up with
the following:

crtc0 uses DCPLL
crtc1 uses PPLL2
crtc2 uses PPLL1

When X starts, it assigns a different topology:

crtc0 -> DVI-0
crtc1 -> DP-0
crtc2 -> DVI-1

However, since the KMS API is per crtc, we set the mode on each
crtc independantly. When it comes time to set the mode on crtc0,
the topology for crtc1 and crtc2 are still intact. crtc1 and
crtc2 are already assigned PPLL2 and PPLL1 so when it comes time
to set the mode on crtc0, crtc1 and crtc2 have not been torn down
yet, so there appears to be no PLLs available. In reality, we
are reconfiguring the entire display topology, however, since
each crtc is handled independantly, we don't know that in the
driver at each crtc mode set time.

This patch checks to see if the same connector is being driven by
another crtc, and if so, uses the PLL already associated with it.

v2: store connector in the radeon crtc struct, simplify checking.

Merge tag 'v3.6-rc7' into drm-intel-next-queued

Manual backmerge of -rc7 to resolve a silent conflict leading to
compile failure in drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_hdmi.c.

This is due to the bugfix in -rc7:

commit b98b601672
Author: Wang Xingchao <xingchao.wang@intel.com>
Date: Thu Sep 13 07:43:22 2012 +0800

drm/i915: HDMI - Clear Audio Enable bit for Hot Plug

Since this code moved around a lot in -next git put that snippet at
the wrong spot. I've tried to fix this by making the conflict explicit
by merging a version for next with:

commit 3cce574f01
Author: Wang Xingchao <xingchao.wang@intel.com>
Date: Thu Sep 13 11:19:00 2012 +0800

drm/i915: HDMI - Clear Audio Enable bit for Hot Plug unconditionally

But that failed to solve the entire problem. To avoid pushing out
further -nightly branch to our QA where this is broken, do the
backmerge and manually add the stuff git adds to -next from the patch
in -fixes.

Note that this doesn't show up in git's merge diff (and hence is also
not handled by git rerere), which adds to the reasons why I'd like to
fix this with a verbose backmerge. The git merge diff only shows a
bunch of trivial conflicts of the "code changed in lines next to each
another" kind.

Alex Deucher 2f454cf126 drm/radeon: allow PPLL sharing on non-DP displays
If several non-DP displays use the same pixel clock
we can use the same PPLL for all of them. If all
relevant displays have the same pixel clock, this
allows the driver to:
- use fewer PPLLs which saves power
- support more than two non-DP displays on DCE4+

The current drm modesetting infrastructure doesn't
really provide a good framework for validating combinations
that work or won't work, so it's possible you could go from
a working configuration to a non-working one by changing the
mode a one of the displays. However, there this is better
than what was there before.
