Pull x86 core updates from Ingo Molnar:
"There were so many changes in the x86/asm, x86/apic and x86/mm topics
in this cycle that the topical separation of -tip broke down somewhat -
so the result is a more traditional architecture pull request,
collected into the 'x86/core' topic.
The topics were still maintained separately as far as possible, so
bisectability and conceptual separation should still be pretty good -
but there were a handful of merge points to avoid excessive
dependencies (and conflicts) that would have been poorly tested in the
end.
The next cycle will hopefully be much more quiet (or at least will
have fewer dependencies).
The main changes in this cycle were:
* x86/apic changes, with related IRQ core changes: (Jiang Liu, Thomas
Gleixner)
- This is the second and most intrusive part of changes to the x86
interrupt handling - full conversion to hierarchical interrupt

This now reflects the actual hardware and allowed us to distangle
the domain specific code from the underlying parent domain, which
can be optional in the case of interrupt remapping. It's a clear
separation of functionality and removes quite some duct tape
constructs which plugged the remap code between ioapic/msi/hpet
and the vector management.
- Intel IOMMU IRQ remapping enhancements, to allow direct interrupt
injection into guests (Feng Wu)
* x86/asm changes:
- Tons of cleanups and small speedups, micro-optimizations. This
is in preparation to move a good chunk of the low level entry
code from assembly to C code (Denys Vlasenko, Andy Lutomirski,
Brian Gerst)
- Moved all system entry related code to a new home under
arch/x86/entry/ (Ingo Molnar)
- Removal of the fragile and ugly CFI dwarf debuginfo annotations.
Conversion to C will reintroduce many of them - but meanwhile
they are only getting in the way, and the upstream kernel does
not rely on them (Ingo Molnar)
- NOP handling refinements. (Borislav Petkov)
* x86/mm changes:
- Big PAT and MTRR rework: making the code more robust and
preparing to phase out exposing direct MTRR interfaces to drivers -
in favor of using PAT driven interfaces (Toshi Kani, Luis R
Rodriguez, Borislav Petkov)
- New ioremap_wt()/set_memory_wt() interfaces to support
Write-Through cached memory mappings. This is especially
important for good performance on NVDIMM hardware (Toshi Kani)
* x86/ras changes:
- Add support for deferred errors on AMD (Aravind Gopalakrishnan)
This is an important RAS feature which adds hardware support for
poisoned data. That means roughly that the hardware marks data
which it has detected as corrupted but wasn't able to correct, as
poisoned data and raises an APIC interrupt to signal that in the
form of a deferred error. It is the OS's responsibility then to
take proper recovery action and thus prolonge system lifetime as
far as possible.
- Add support for Intel "Local MCE"s: upcoming CPUs will support
CPU-local MCE interrupts, as opposed to the traditional system-
wide broadcasted MCE interrupts (Ashok Raj)

This patch attempts to enhance the case of a transfer submitted multiple
times, and where the cost of creating the descriptors chain is not
negligible.
This happens with big video buffers (several megabytes, ie. several
thousands of linked descriptors in one scatter-gather list). In these
cases, a video driver would want to do :
- tx = dmaengine_prep_slave_sg()
- dma_engine_submit(tx);
- dma_async_issue_pending()
- wait for video completion
- read video data (or not, skipping a frame is also possible)
- dma_engine_submit(tx)
=> here, the descriptors chain recalculation will take time
=> the dma coherent allocation over and over might create holes in
the dma pool, which is counter-productive.
- dma_async_issue_pending()
- etc ...
In order to cope with this case, virt-dma is modified to prevent freeing
the descriptors upon completion if DMA_CTRL_ACK flag is set in the
transfer.

The AT91 HDMAC controller supports interleaved transfers through what's
called the Picture-in-Picture mode, which allows to transfer a squared
portion of a framebuffer.
This means that this interleaved transfer only supports interleaved
transfers which have a transfer size and ICGs that are fixed across all the
chunks.
While this is a quite drastic restriction of the interleaved transfers
compared to what the dmaengine API allows, this is still useful, and our
driver will only reject transfers that do not conform to this.

Now that we can have ICGs set for both the source and destination (using
the icg field of struct data_chunk) or for only the source or the
destination (using the dst_icg or src_icg respectively), and that these
fields can be ignored depending on other parameters (src_inc, src_sgl,
etc.), the logic to get the actual ICG value can be quite tricky.
The XDMAC driver was already implementing it, but since we will need it in
other drivers, we can move it to the main header file.

Some drivers implement only pause operation (no resuming). Example is
pl330 where pause is needed for getting residuum. pl330 does not support
resume operation, transfer must be stopped after pause.
However for slaves this is exposed always as "pause and resume" which
introduces subtle errors on Odroid U3 board (Exynos4412 with pl330).
After adding pause function to pl330 driver the audio playback
(utilizing DMA) gets choppy after some time (approximately 24 hours).
Fix this by exposing "cmd_pause" if and only if pause and resume are
implemented.

Instead of having a field for descriptor in use, all the descriptors in the
all_slots list are free for use.

Now that we have 2 channels assigned to 2 CPUs and all requests are chained
on same channels, we need much more descriptors available to satisfy
async_tx workload.
3072 descriptors was found in our lab as the number of descriptors which
allow the async_tx stack to work without waiting for free descriptors on
submission of new requests.

The Marvell Armada 38x SoC introduce new features to the XOR engine,
especially the fact that the engine mode (MEMCPY/XOR/PQ/etc) can be part of
the descriptor and not set through the controller registers.
This new feature allows mixing of different commands (even PQ) on the same
channel/chain without the need to stop the engine to reconfigure the engine
mode.
Refactor the driver to be able to use that new feature on the Armada 38x,
while keeping the old behaviour on the older SoCs.

The current function names isn't very consistent, and functions with the
same prefix might operate on either a channel or a descriptor, which is
kind of confusing.

This patch fixes a bug in the XOR driver where the cleanup function can be
called and free descriptors that never been processed by the engine (which
result in data errors).
The cleanup function will free descriptors based on the ownership bit in
the descriptors.

It comes from the fact that devices can called some code from the DMA
controller with irq disabled. _bh variant is not intended to be used in
this case since it can enable irqs. Switch to irqsave/irqrestore variant to
avoid this situation.

add support for new CSR atlas7 SoC. atlas7 exists V1 and V2 IP.
atlas7 DMAv1 is basically moved from marco, which has never been
delivered to customers and renamed in this patch.
atlas7 DMAv2 supports chain DMA by a chain table, this
patch also adds chain DMA support for atlas7.
atlas7 DMAv1 and DMAv2 co-exist in the same chip. there are some HW
configuration differences(register offset etc.) with old prima2 chips,
so we use compatible string to differentiate old prima2 and new atlas7,
then results in different set in HW for them.

Nothing in <asm/io.h> uses anything from <linux/vmalloc.h>, so
remove it from there and fix up the resulting build problems
triggered on x86 {64|32}-bit {def|allmod|allno}configs.
The breakages were triggering in places where x86 builds relied
on vmalloc() facilities but did not include <linux/vmalloc.h>
explicitly and relied on the implicit inclusion via <asm/io.h>.
Also add:
- <linux/init.h> to <linux/io.h>
- <asm/pgtable_types> to <asm/io.h>
... which were two other implicit header file dependencies.

In order to achieve smooth transition of pxa drivers from old legacy dma
handling to new dmaengine, introduce a function to "hide" dma physical
channels from dmaengine.
This is temporary situation where pxa dma will be handled in 2 places :
- arch/arm/plat-pxa/dma.c
- drivers/dma/pxa_dma.c
The resources, ie. dma channels, will be controlled by pxa_dma. The
legacy code will request or release a channel with
pxad_toggle_reserved_channel().
This is not very pretty, but it ensures both legacy and dmaengine
consumers can live in the same kernel until the conversion is done.

Most code already uses consts for the struct kernel_param_ops,
sweep the kernel for the last offending stragglers. Other than
include/linux/moduleparam.h and kernel/params.c all other changes
were generated with the following Coccinelle SmPL patch. Merge
conflicts between trees can be handled with Coccinelle.
In the future git could get Coccinelle merge support to deal with
patch --> fail --> grammar --> Coccinelle --> new patch conflicts
automatically for us on patches where the grammar is available and
the patch is of high confidence. Consider this a feature request.

This is a new driver for pxa SoCs, which is also compatible with the former
mmp_pdma.
The rationale behind a new driver (as opposed to incremental patching) was :
- the new driver relies on virt-dma, which obsoletes all the internal
structures of mmp_pdma (sw_desc, hw_desc, ...), and by consequence all the
functions
- mmp_pdma allocates dma coherent descriptors containing not only hardware
descriptors but linked list information
The new driver only puts the dma hardware descriptors (ie. 4 u32) into the
dma pool allocated memory. This changes completely the way descriptors are
handled
- the architecture behind the interrupt/tasklet management was rewritten to be
more conforming to virt-dma
- the buffers alignment is handled differently
The former driver assumed that the DMA channel stopped between each
descriptor. The new one chains descriptors to let the channel running. This
is a necessary guarantee for real-time high bandwidth usecases such as video
capture on "old" architectures such as pxa.

Whenever possible, submitting a descriptor "hot chains" it to a running
channel. There is still no guarantee that the descriptor will be issued, as
the channel might be stopped just before the descriptor is submitted. Yet
this allows to submit several video buffers, and resubmit a buffer while
another is under handling.
As before, dma_async_issue_pending() is the only guarantee to have all the
buffers issued.
When an alignment issue is detected (ie. one address in a descriptor is not
a multiple of 8), if the already running channel is in "aligned mode", the
channel will stop, and restarted in "misaligned mode" to finished the issued
list.
- descriptors reusing
A submitted, issued and completed descriptor can be reused, ie resubmitted if
it was prepared with the proper flag (DMA_PREP_ACK). Only a channel
resources release will in this case release that buffer.
This allows a rolling ring of buffers to be reused, where there are several
thousands of hardware descriptors used (video buffer for example).
Additionally, a set of more casual features is introduced :
- debugging traces
- lockless way to know if a descriptor is terminated or not
The driver was tested on zylonite board (pxa3xx) and mioa701 (pxa27x),
with dmatest, pxa_camera and pxamci.

Current rcar-dmac driver is using spin_lock_irq() / spin_unlock_irq()
in some functions. But, some other driver might call DMAEngine API
during interrupt disabled. In such case, rcar-dmac side spin_unlock_irq()
forcefully allows all interrupts. Therefore, other driver receives
unexpected interruption, and its exclusive access control will be broken.
This patch replaces spin_lock_irq() to spin_lock_irqsave(),
and spin_unlock_irq() to spin_unlock_irqrestore().

The pl330 device could hang infinitely on certain boards when DMA
channels are terminated.
It was caused by lack of runtime resume when executing
pl330_terminate_all() which calls the _stop() function. _stop() accesses
device register and can loop infinitely while checking for device state.
The hang was confirmed by Dinh Nguyen on Altera SOCFPGA Cyclone V
board during boot. It can be also triggered with:

So far, we were setting the NDE bit in our descriptors through some logic to
try to see if we were the last descriptor in the chain.
However, that was turning out to be rather complex to get right, while this
information is also available when we actually chain a new descriptor after an
already existing one.
Simplify this by never setting NDE unless when we actually chain a descriptor.

The XDMAC DMA controller uses a concept of views to be able to handle
descriptors of different sizes.
So far, only the views 1 and 2 were handled by the driver. Unfortunately, we
need some of the configuration fields found in the view 3 in order to support
memset and interleaved transfers.
Add the definition for the view 3 registers, and the needed code to handle view
3 descriptors.

The DRA7x has more peripherals with DMA requests than the sDMA can handle:
205 vs 127. All DMA requests are routed through the DMA crossbar, which can
be configured to route selected incoming DMA requests to specific sDMA
request.

Do not direct map the virtual channels to sDMA request number. When the
sDMA is behind of a crossbar this direct mapping can cause situations when
certain channel can not be requested since the crossbar request number
will no longer match with the sDMA request line.
The direct mapping for virtual channels with HW request lines will make it
harder to implement MEM_TO_MEM mode for the driver.

DMA routers are transparent devices used to mux DMA requests from
peripherals to DMA controllers. They are used when the SoC integrates more
devices with DMA requests then their controller can handle.
DRA7x is one example of such SoC, where the sDMA can hanlde 128 DMA request
lines, but in SoC level it has 205 DMA requests.
The of_dma_router will be registered as of_dma_controller with special
xlate function and additional parameters. The driver for the router is
responsible to craft the dma_spec (in the of_dma_route_allocate callback)
which can be used to requests a DMA channel from the real DMA controller.
This way the router can be transparent for the system while remaining generic
enough to be used in different environments.

The 8250_omap serial driver relies on dmaengine_pause() actually
pausing the DMA transfer. Before this patch dmaengine_pause() is
a NOP for non-cylic DMA transfers. This allowed the 8250_omap
driver to read DMA buffers while the DMA was still active,
resulting in lost serial data.

The sDMA controller is capable of performing memory copy operation. It need
to be configured to software triggered mode and without HW synchronization.
The sDMA can copy data which is aligned to 8, 16 or 32 bits.

Channels allocated via dma_get_any_slave_channel were not increasing
the counter tracking private allocations. When these channels were
released, privatecnt may erroneously fall to zero. The DMA device
would then lose its DMA_PRIVATE cap and fail to allocate future private
channels (via private_candidate) as any allocations still outstanding
would incorrectly be seen as public allocations.

Here's the big tty/serial driver update for 4.1-rc1.
It was delayed for a bit due to some questions surrounding some of the
console command line parsing changes that are in here. There's still
one tiny regression for people who were previously putting multiple
console command lines and expecting them all to be ignored for some odd
reason, but Peter is working on fixing that. If not, I'll send a revert
for the offending patch, but I have faith that Peter can address it.
Other than the console work here, there's the usual serial driver
updates and changes, and a buch of 8250 reworks to try to make that
driver easier to maintain over time, and have it support more devices in
the future.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while.

There have been major modernization with the standard bus: in ALSA
sequencer core and HD-audio. Also, HD-audio receives the regmap
support replacing the in-house cache register cache code. These
changes shouldn't impact the existing behavior, but rather
refactoring.
In addition, HD-audio got the code split to a core library part and
the "legacy" driver parts. This is a preliminary work for adapting
the upcoming ASoC HD-audio driver, and the whole transition is still
work in progress, likely finished in 4.1.

cleanup patches accepted. Other than the normal coding style and sparse
fixes here, there are some driver updates and work toward making some of
the drivers into "mergable" shape (like the Unisys drivers.)

This reverts commit ecc19d1786.
It added a new warning to try to encourage driver writers to set the
device capabities properly, but drivers haven't been updated and in the
meantime it just generaters a scary message that users cannot actually
do anything about.
Warnings like these are appropriate if you actually expect to fix the
code that causes them. They are not appropriate for releases.

The RaidEngine is a new FSL hardware used for Raid5/6 acceration.
This patch enables the RaidEngine functionality and provides
hardware offloading capability for memcpy, xor and pq computation.
It works with async_tx.

This DMAC is Renesas USB high-speed module DMA controller that
supports slave transfer.
This USB-DMAC has similar register sets with R-Car Gen2 DMAC, but
the USB-DMAC has specific registers to control the USB transactions.
If this code is added into the rcar-dmac driver, it will become
unreadable. So, this driver is independent from the rcar-dmac.
And, this USB-DMAC uses virt-dma infrastructure.

The "data" parameter passed indirectly to the edma_callback() should be
edma_chan and not the dma_chan.
This bug was so far harmless since the offset of struct dma_chan within struct
edma_chan is 0. However as soon as someone changes struct edma_chan this would
cause troubles.

The function d40_prep_sg takes the type enum dma_transfer_direction
as second last parameter. However, the memcpy calls pass DMA_NONE
which is of type enum dma_data_direction. Fix this by passing the
actual transfer direction DMA_MEM_TO_MEM.
This does not change the actual code flow since only the transfer
direction DMA_MEM_TO_DEV and DMA_DEV_TO_MEM are actually used in the
function d40_prep_sg.

This patch adds a driver for the DMA controller found in the Ingenic
JZ4780.
It currently does not implement any support for the programmable firmware
feature of the controller - this is not necessary for most uses. It also
does not take priority into account when allocating channels, it just
allocates the first available channel. This can be implemented later.

In omap_dma_start_desc the vdesc->node is removed from the virt-dma
framework managed lists (to be precise from the desc_issued list).
If a terminate_all comes before the transfer finishes the omap_desc will
not be freed up because it is not in any of the lists and we stopped the
DMA channel so the transfer will not going to complete.
There is no special sequence for leaking memory when using cyclic (audio)
transfer: with every start and stop of a cyclic transfer the driver leaks
struct omap_desc worth of memory.
Free up the allocated memory directly in omap_dma_terminate_all() since the
framework will not going to do that for us.

If edma_terminate_all() was called while a transfer was running (i.e. after
edma_execute() but before edma_callback()) the echan->edesc was not freed.
This was due to the fact that a running transfer is on none of the
vchan lists: desc_submitted, desc_issued, desc_completed (edma_execute()
removes it from the desc_issued list), so the vchan_dma_desc_free_list()
called at the end of edma_terminate_all() didn't find it and didn't free it.
This bug was found on an AM1808 based hardware (very similar to da850evm,
however using the second MMC/SD controller), where intense operations on the SD
card wasted the device 128MB RAM within a couple of days.
Peter Ujfalusi:
The issue is even more severe since it affects cyclic (audio) transfers as
well. In this case starting/stopping audio will results memory leak.

The pl330_tx_status() function returns the desc->status if the
dma_cookie_status() call does indicate the cookie completed,
however the desc->status is not look directly compatible. Sparse
throws the following warning:

Attempt to fix this by adding a switch statement to turn the

When running Xilinx Zynq in big-endian mode the pl330 driver
fails to pass the dmatest suite. To fix this, ensure all non
byte values are written in little endian.
As a note, the documentation does not mention if it will do
big-endian descriptor fetches, only that it will swap the
data in flight.

Renesas R-Car sound (= rsnd) needs 2 DMAC which are called as
Audio DMAC (= 1st DMAC) and Audio DMAC peri peri (2nd DMAC).
And rsnd had assumed that 1st / 2nd DMACs are implemented as DMAEngine.
But, in result of DMA ML discussion, 2nd DMAC was concluded that it is
not a general purpose DMAC (2nd DMAC is for Device to Device inside
sound system). Additionally, current DMAEngine can't support Device to
Device, and we don't have correct DT bindings for it at this point.
So the easiest solution for it is that move it from DMAEngine to rsnd
driver.
Audio DMAC peri peri on DMAEngine is no longer needed. remove it.

can remove driver from the tree.
Moreover, besides the driver is unmaintained a long time, it serves for the

code) introduced a separate platform driver but missed to add a
MODULE_ALIAS("platform:dw_dmac"); to that module.

--"Static context mode should be used for the first channel called
after reset to ensure that the all context RAM for that channel is
initialized during the context SAVE phase when the channel is
done or yields. Subsequent calls to the same channel or
different channels may use any of the dynamic context modes.

channel are initialized, and prevent undefined values in context
RAM from being loaded during the context restore if the
channel is re-started later"

This patch fixes the following issues regarding to the calculation of the
residue:
1. The residue is always calculated for the current transfer even if the
cookie is associated to a pending transfer.
2. For scatter/gather DMA the calculation of the residue for the current
transfer doesn't include the bytes of the child descriptors that are already
transferred.
It only calculates the difference between the transfer's total length minus
the number of bytes that are already transferred for the current child
descriptor.
For example: There is a scatter/gather DMA transfer with a total length of
1 MByte. Getting the residue several times while the transfer is running shows
something like that:
1: residue = 975584
2: residue = 1002766
3: residue = 992627
4: residue = 983767
5: residue = 985694
6: residue = 1008094
7: residue = 1009741
8: residue = 1011195
3. The driver stores the residue but never resets it when starting a new
transfer.
For example: If there are two subsequent DMA transfers. The first one with
a total length of 1 MByte and the second one with a total length of 1 kByte.
Getting the residue for both transfers shows something like that:
transfer 1: residue = 975584
transfer 2: residue = 1048380

In the case of a "memory_to_memory_sg" transfer (part of this patch
series) the transfer width of both descriptors may differ. Thus it is
required to additionally set 'tx_width' of the last descriptor.

The HSU DMA is developed to support High Speed UART controllers found in
particular on Intel MID platforms such as Intel Medfield.
The existing implementation is tighten to the drivers/tty/serial/mfd.c driver
and has a lot of disadvantages. Besides that we would like to get rid of the
old HS UART driver in regarding to extending the 8250 which supports generic
DMAEngine API. That's why the current driver has been developed.

When dma controller is not used by any user and set off,
we should disble interrupt handler, at least the interrupt
reset part, for some subsystem, e.g. ADSP, may use the
dma in its own logic, here reset the interrupt may make
this subsystem work abnormally.

Below are the refinements.
1. Set DMA abort bit when disabling dma channel. This will clear
the remaining data in dma FIFO, to fix channel-swap issue.
2. Read DMA HW pointer when updating DMA status. Previously dma
position is calculated by adding one period size in dma interrupt.
This is inaccurate/insufficient for some high-quality audio APP.
Since interrupt bottom half handler has variable schedule delay,
it causes big error when calculating sample delay. Read the actual
HW pointer and feedback can improve the accuracy.
3. Do some minor code clean.

If the sh-dma-engine is runtime-suspended, its module clock is turned
off, and its registers cannot be accessed.
To fix this, move the call to sh_dmae_ctl_stop(), which touches the
DMAOR register, to the sh_dmae_suspend() and sh_dmae_runtime_suspend()
callbacks. This makes PM operations more symmetric, as both
sh_dmae_resume() and sh_dmae_runtime_resume() already call sh_dmae_rst()
to re-initialize the DMAOR register.
Remove sh_dmae_shutdown(), as it became empty.

Some dma channels may be reserved for other purpose in other layer,
like secure driver in EL2/EL3. PDMA driver can see the interrupt
status, but it should not try to handle related interrupt, since it
doesn't belong to PDMA driver in kernel. These interrupts should be
handled by corresponding client/module.Otherwise, it will overwrite
illegal memory and cause unexpected issues, since pdma driver only
requests resources for pdma channels.
In PDMA driver, the reserved channels are at the end of total 32
channels. If we find interrupt bit index is not smaller than total
dma channels, we should ignore it.

in dma_slave_config, which is incompatible with the way that the
dmaengine API normally works.
I've had a closer look at the existing code now and found that all
slave drivers that pass a slave_id in dma_slave_config for SH do that
right after passing the same ID into shdma_chan_filter, so we can just
rely on that. However, the various shdma drivers currently do not
remember the slave ID that was passed into the filter function when
used in non-DT mode and only check the value to find a matching channel,
unlike all other drivers.
There might still be drivers that are not part of the kernel that rely
on setting the slave_id to some other value, so to be on the safe side,
this adds another 'real_slave_id' field to shdma_chan that remembers
the ID and uses it when a driver passes a zero slave_id in dma_slave_config,
like most drivers do.
Eventually, the real_slave_id and slave_id fields should just get merged
into one field, but that requires other changes.

DMA_PAUSE command is used for halting DMA transfer on chosen channel.
It can be useful when we want to safely read residue before terminating
all requests on channel. Otherwise there can be situation when some data
is transferred before channel termination but after reading residue,
which obviously results with data loss. To avoid this situation we can
pause channel, read residue and then terminate all requests.
This scenario is common, for example, in serial port drivers.

A still unconfirmed hardware bug prevents the IPMMU microTLB 0 to be
flushed correctly, resulting in memory corruption. DMAC 0 channel 0 is
connected to microTLB 0 on currently supported platforms, so we can't
use it with the IPMMU. As the IOMMU API operates at the device level we
can't disable it selectively, so ignore channel 0 for now if the device
is part of an IOMMU group.

When descriptor memory is accessed through an IOMMU the DMADAR register
isn't initialized automatically from the first descriptor at beginning
of transfer by the DMAC like it should. Initialize it manually with the
destination address of the first chunk.

When wired to an IOMMU to access data, the DMAC accesses the hardware
descriptors through the IOMMU as well. We're using the DMA mapping API
to allocate the descriptors, but with a NULL device at the moment, which
prevents IOMMU mappings from being created. Fix this by passing the DMAC
device instead.

The error interrupt handler stops and reinitializes all channels. This
causes a crash for channels that have never been used, as their
descriptor lists are uninitialized. Fix it by initializing the
descriptor lists at probe time.

In order to make it possible to restore from hibernation not only in Linux but
also in e.g. U-Boot, we have to use sh_dmae_{suspend|resume}() for the {freeze|
thaw|restore}() PM methods. It's handy to achieve this with SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS()
macro; since that macro doesn't do anything when CONFIG_PM_SLEEP is undefined,
we don't need to #define sh_dmae_{suspend|resume} NULL anymore but we'll have to
enclose sh_dmae_{suspend|resume}() into the new #ifdef...

Currently ACPI, PCI and pnp all implement the same resource list
management with different data structure. We need to transfer from
one data structure into another when passing resources from one
subsystem into another subsystem. So move struct resource_list_entry
from ACPI into resource core and rename it as resource_entry,
then it could be reused by different subystems and avoid the data
structure conversion.
Introduce dedicated header file resource_ext.h instead of embedding
it into ioport.h to avoid header file inclusion order issues.

When using FIFO, we need to support differents data width in a single
transfer. For example, serial device which usually uses 1-byte data
width will use 4-bytes data width when using the FIFO. If the transfer
size is not aligned on 4-bytes then the end of the transfer will be
performed with 1-byte data-width. For that reason,
at_xdmac_prep_slave_sg() now builds linked list descriptors using view 2
instead of view 1 so each of them can update the DWIDTH field into the
Channel Configuration Register.

This patch simplifies the channel configuration register management.
Relying on a "software snapshot" of the configuration is not safe and
too complex.
Multiple dwidths will be introduced for slave transfers. In this case,
it becomes quite difficult to have an accurate snapshot of the channel
configuration register in the way it is done. Using the channel
configuration available in the lli descriptor simplifies this stuff.

A recent patch that removed coh901318_control() replaced it
with a number of pointers to existing functions, but those

After commit ecc19d1786 ("dmaengine: Add

the Tegra APB DMA driver causes this warning during boot:

In case of PCI driver we will get a warning:

This happens due to pm_runtime_enable() call from the driver when PM runtime is
enabled by core.
This patch moves that call to the platform driver where it might make sense.

In a recent cleanup, the mmp_tdma_terminate_all function was
introduced but does not set a proper return value. Almost
no slave driver uses that return value, but if one does, the
result will be undefined, which the compiler warns about:

This changes the driver to return zero, like most other

we want to enable multiplatform support for MMP, which would
make it inaccessible and cause a build error.

Unlike DMA transfers descriptors that are preallocated and cached,
memory used to store hardware descriptors is allocated and freed with
the DMA coherent allocation API for every transfer. Besides degrading
performances, this creates a CMA stress test that seems to cause issues.
Running dmatest with the noverify option produces

The DMAC supports hardware-based auto-configuration from descriptor
lists. This reduces the number of interrupts required for processing a
DMA transfer. Support that mode in the driver.

The DMAC is a general purpose multi-channel DMA controller that supports
both slave and memcpy transfers.
The driver currently supports the DMAC found in the r8a7790 and r8a7791
SoCs. Support for compatible DMA controllers (such as the audio DMAC)
will be added later.
Feature-wise, automatic hardware handling of descriptors chains isn't
supported yet. LPAE support is implemented.

For the slave caps retrieval to be really useful, most drivers need to
implement it.
Hence, we need to be slightly more aggressive, and trigger a warning at
registration time for drivers that don't fill their caps infos in order to
encourage them to implement it.

Nowadays, some drivers don't have anything in there channel allocation
callbacks anymore.
Remove the BUG_ON if those callbacks aren't implemented, in order to allow
drivers to not implement them.

The err completion callback is missing from the error handler. Two
reasons we never hit this. On Xeon because the hw err workaround, the
completion happens on a NULL descriptor so we don't do callback on the
PQ descriptor. On Atom we have DWBES support and thus the callback already
happened or we don't halt on error, so that was take cared of. But this code
needs to be corrected for future error handlers.

Here's the set of driver core patches for 3.19-rc1.
They are dominated by the removal of the .owner field in platform
drivers. They touch a lot of files, but they are "simple" changes, just
removing a line in a structure.
Other than that, a few minor driver core and debugfs changes. There are
some ath9k patches coming in through this tree that have been acked by
the wireless maintainers as they relied on the debugfs changes.
Everything has been in linux-next for a while.

The free_percpu() function tests whether its argument is NULL and then
returns immediately. Thus the test around the call is not needed.
This issue was detected by using the Coccinelle software.

The manual says that we need to (repeatedly) set the TearDown-bit for
the endpoint in order to get the active transfer descriptor released.
Doing this "real" quick over and over again seems to work but it also
seems that the hardware might not have enough time to breathe. So I
though, hey lets add a udelay() between between the individual sets
of the bit.
This change with the g_zero testcase resulted in a warning about missing
transfer descriptor (we got the tear-down one). It seems that if the
hardware has some time it manages to release the transfer-descriptor on
the completion queue after the teaddown descriptor.
With this change, I observe that the transfer descriptor is released
after 20-30 retry loops.

and complains about a TD descriptor which is not returned. I've been
looking at several things and haven't noticed anything unusual that
might lead to this.
The manual says "to try again" until the descriptor comes out. I limited
the amount of retries to 100 retries in order to avoid an infinite number
of retries and so a busy-loop. Back then testing revealed that the
number of retries were around 20-30 so 100 seemed a good upper limit.
This g_zero test reaches without a problem 98 retries and it jumps
sometimes to 101 on am335x-evm and so the WARN_ON() triggers. Same test
run on beaglebone black and the retries start at 122 and my max value so
far was at 128.
So lets rise the limit to 500.

The offset of all 8-/16-bit registers in big-endian eDMA model are
swapped in a 32-bit size opposite those in the little-endian model.
The hardware Scatter/Gather requires the subsequent TCDs stored in memory
in little endian independent of the register endian model, the eDMA engine
will do the swap if need.
This patch also use regular assignment for tcd variables r/w
instead of with io function previously that may not always be true.

If the current transfer control descriptor (TCD) was not yet started,
the address will be the same as the initial address. Hence test if the

After commit b2b49ccbdd (PM: Kconfig: Set PM_RUNTIME if PM_SLEEP is
selected) PM_RUNTIME is always set if PM is set, so #ifdef blocks
depending on CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME may now be changed to depend on
CONFIG_PM.
Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM in drivers/dma/nbpfaxi.c
and drivers/dma/tegra20-apb-dma.c.

When a firmware cannot be found for the SDMA engine then we can
continue with the internal ROM firmware.
The meaning of this message is frequently asked for, so make clear
that the driver still works with the internal ROM firmware and reduce
the loglevel from err to info.

The SET_PM_RUNTIME_PM_OPS() and SET_RUNTIME_PM_OPS() macros are
identical except that one of them is not empty for CONFIG_PM set,
while the other one is not empty for CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME set,
respectively.
However, after commit b2b49ccbdd (PM: Kconfig: Set PM_RUNTIME if
PM_SLEEP is selected) PM_RUNTIME is always set if PM is set, so one
of these macros is now redundant.
For this reason, replace SET_PM_RUNTIME_PM_OPS() with
SET_RUNTIME_PM_OPS() everywhere and redefine the SET_PM_RUNTIME_PM_OPS
symbol as SET_RUNTIME_PM_OPS in case new code is starting to use the

This patch adds runtime PM support to pl330 DMA engine driver.
The runtime power management for pl330 DMA driver allows gating of AMBA
clock (PDMA) in FSYS clock domain, when the device is not processing any
requests. This is necessary to enter low power modes on Exynos SoCs
(e.g. LPA on Exynos4x12 or W-AFTR on Exynos3250).
Runtime PM resuming of the device may happen in atomic context (during
call device_issue_pending()) so pm_runtime_irq_safe() is used. This will
lead only to disabling/enabling of the clock but this is sufficient for
gating the clock and for reducing energy usage.
Driver uses runtime PM callbacks from amba/bus.c driver only.

According to the Atmel eXtended DMA controller datasheet, requesting a
DMA transfer flush for a channel is only revelant when this transfer is
source peripheral synchronized.
So we have to check this condition before requesting a channel flush by
writing the channel bit into the Global channel SoftWare Flush (GSWF)
register then waiting for flush to complete by monitoring the end of
Flush Interrupt Status (FIS) bit in the Channel Interrupt Status (CIS)
register.
Indeed, for non source peripheral synchronized transfer, writing the
channel bit into the GSWF register does nothing. Especially, the FIS bit
is never set into the CIS register. The former code looped forever
waiting for this bit to be set.

This driver uses read_relaxed and writel_relaxed to read, write to IO
memory. the config defines COMPILE_TEST so gets compiled on different archs.
This causes issue as few archs like x86 etc don't define it.
So use readl/writel which is defined in all archs

This patch fixes a race condition about a list of shdma-base driver.
If we don't apply this patch, a dma slave driver (especially a usb
peripheral driver) may not be able to start the transfer.
If a dma slave driver has a callback, __ld_cleanup() will call
the callback before this driver removes the list. After the callback,
since the return value of __ld_cleanup() is not zero,
shdma_chan_ld_cleanup() calls __ld_cleanup() again. And, __ld_clean()
will removes the list.
At this time, if a dma slave driver calls dmaengine_submit() before
this driver removes the list, this driver will set schan->pm_state
to SHDMA_PM_PENDING in shdma_tx_submit(). And then, even if a dma
slave driver calls dma_async_issue_pending(), this driver don't
start the transfer because the schan->pm_state is SHDMA_PM_PENDING
in shdma_issue_pending().
So, this patch adds a new condition in __ld_clean() to check if the
schan->pm_state is SHDMA_PM_PENDING or not.

We currently have register offset information only for BAM IPs with revision
1.4.0. We add register offset table entries for the legacy (v1.3.0) version
of BAM IPs found on SoCs like APQ8064 and MSM8960.
The register offset table pointers are stored in DT data corresponding to the
BAM IP version specified in the compatible string.

The BAM DMA IP comes in different versions. The register offset layout varies
among these versions. The layouts depend on which generation/family of SoCs they
belong to.
The current SoCs(like 8084, 8074) have a layout where the Top level registers
come in the beginning of the address range, followed by pipe and event
registers. The BAM revision numbers fall above 1.4.0.
The older SoCs (like 8064, 8960) have a layout where the pipe registers come
first, and the top level come later. These have BAM revision numbers lesser than
1.4.0.
It isn't suitable to have macros provide the register offsets with the layouts
changed. Future BAM revisions may have different register layouts too. The
register addresses are now calculated by referring a table which contains a base
offset and multipliers for pipe/evnt/ee registers.
We have a common function bam_addr() which computes addresses for all the
registers. When computing address of top level/ee registers, we pass 0 to the
pipe argument in addr() since they don't have any multiple instances.
Some of the unused register definitions are removed. We can add new registers as
we need them.

The A23 SoC has the same dma engine as the A31 (sun6i), with a
reduced amount of endpoints and physical channels. Add the proper
config data and compatible string to support it.
A slight difference in sun8i is an undocumented register needs
to be toggled for dma to function.

When platform_driver_probe() is not used, sdma_probe() can be called
by bind/unbind via sysfs. In addition, sdma_init() can be called by
sdma_probe(). Thus, __init annotation should be removed from sdma_init(),
Also, this patch fixes section mismatch warning.

Commit f6f2421c0a removed pl330_info structure by embedding it into
pl330_dmac structure, but did not ensure that the dmac->ddma.dev
pointer gets initialised before use. When dma_alloc_coherent() gets
called on arm64 a WARN() gets triggered due to dev being NULL.

The datasheet for PL330 says that the data buffer value in the CRD
register is 10bits wide. However, the value stored is "minus one",
which the driver corrects for. Maximum value that the data buffer
depth can have is 1024 lines, which requires 11 bits for storage.
While making updates I found printing the peripheral ID as a hex
value to be more useful as the datasheet shows the values that way.

The MFIFO is shared by all channels so restrict each memcpy to it's fair
share. This is being over cautious, but without a global view of DMA
channel usage on a system it's not possible to come up with a more
optimum safe limit.

The algorithm used for programming the DMA Controller doesn't take into
consideration the requirements of transfers that are not aligned to the
bus width. This failure may result in DMA transferring one too few MFIFO
entries (so too few bytes are copied) or the DMA trying to write one too
many MFIFO entries and hanging because this is never provided.
See "MFIFO Usage Overview" chapter in the the TRM for "CoreLink DMA
Controller DMA-330", Revision r1p1.
We work around these shortcomings by making sure we pick a burst size
and length which ensures no bursts straddle an MFIFO entry.

The prep_memcpy call was not setting any meaningful burst and width because it
was relying on the dma_slave_config was not set already.
Rework the needed conversion functions, and hardcode the width and burst to
use.

The horrible split between the low-level part of the edma support
and the dmaengine front-end driver causes problems on multiplatform
kernels. This is an attempt to improve the situation slightly
by only registering the dmaengine devices that are actually
present.

The freescale driver uses custom device control FSLDMA_EXTERNAL_START to
put the controller in external start mode.
Since we are planning to deprecate the device control, move this to exported
API. Subsequent patches will remove the FSLDMA_EXTERNAL_START

I added book keeping of whether or not the 8250-dma driver has an RX
transfer pending or not so we don't BUG here if it calls
dmaengine_pause() on a channel which has not a pending transfer. Guess
what, this is not enough.
The following can be triggered with a busy RX channel and hackbench in
background:
- DMA transfer completes. The callback is delayed via
vchan_cookie_complete() into a tasklet so it das not happen asap.
- hackbench keeps the system busy so the tasklet does not run "soon".
- the UART collected enough data and generates an "timeout"-interrupt.
Since 8250-dma *thinks* the DMA-transfer is still pending it tries to
cancel it via invoking dmaengine_pause() first. This causes the segfault
because echan->edesc is NULL now that the transfer completed (however
the callback did not run yet).
With this patch we don't BUG in the scenario described.

The driver library functions can be used directly by the compound devices such
as ADSP or serial driver where DesignWare DMA IP is privately attached to the
main hardware.
Instead of creating a new platform device leaf they may call dw_dma_probe()
with given struct dw_dma_chip directly and make sure that the main device is
DMA capable.

The pl330_submit_req() checked supplied 'struct pl330_thread thrd' and
'struct dma_pl330_desc desc' parameters for non-NULL. However these
checks are useless because supplied arguments won't be NULL.
The pl330_submit_req() is called in only one place and:
1. 'desc' is already dereferenced in fill_queue() before calling
pl330_submit_req().
2. 'thrd' is always dereferenced after calling
fill_queue()->pl330_submit_req().
Removing the checks for non-NULL values fixes following warning:

Per commit "77873803363c net_dma: mark broken" net_dma is no longer used
and there is no plan to fix it.
This is the mechanical removal of bits in CONFIG_NET_DMA ifdef guards.
Reverting the remainder of the net_dma induced changes is deferred to
subsequent patches.

The sun6i DMA controller requires the AHB1 bus clock to be
clocked from PLL6. This was originally done by the dmaengine
driver during probe time. The AHB1 clock driver has since been
unified, so the original code does not work.
Remove the clk muxing code, and replace it with DT clk default
properties.

The driver is capable of supporting DMA_INTERRUPT by issuing a dummy 128-byte
transfer. This helps removing a poll in the async_tx stack, replacing it with
a completion interrupt.

The driver currently defines the USE_TIMER macro, but the timer-feature
is never used in the code. The XOR and CRC32 results are never used.
The 'unmap_xxx' fields are no longer needed, they were made obsolete
in commit: 54f8d501e8 dmaengine: remove DMA unmap from drivers.
Let's remove all this dead code.

This commit unmasks the end-of-chain interrupt and removes the
end-of-descriptor command setting on all transactions, except those
explicitly flagged with DMA_PREP_INTERRUPT.
This allows to raise an interrupt only on chain completion, instead of
on each descriptor completion, which reduces interrupt count.

This commit replaces the current magic numbers in the interrupt handling
with proper macros, which makes more readable and self-documenting.
While here replace the BUG() with a noisy WARN_ON(). There's no reason
to tear down the entire system for an DMA IRQ error.

Although the driver supported multiple-slot allocation, only one slot was
ever allocated for each transaction. So, given we have no users of the
multi-slot support, we can remove it and greatly simplify the code.

A memory copy operation can be expressed as an XOR operation with one
source. This commit removes code duplication in the driver by reusing
the XOR operation for the MEMCPY.
As an added benefit, we can now put MEMCPY and XOR descriptors on the
same chain, which improves performance.

When the audio stream is paused or suspended we stop the sDMA and when it
is unpaused/resumed we start the channel without reconfiguring it.
The omap_dma_stop() clears the link configuration when we pause the dma, but
it is not setting it back on start. This will result only one audio buffer
to be played back and the DMA will stop, since the linking is disabled.
We need to restore the CLINK_CTRL register in case of resume.

On BayTrail platform DMA is not functional in the PCI mode, whereby it always
failed and exit at the point when it tries to get a clock. It causes the PCI
mode probe to exit with the error message:
dw_dmac_pci: probe of 0000:00:1e.0 failed with error -2
This patch moves clock operations to where it belongs to. Thus, the clock is
provided only in ACPI / non-PCI cases.

The introduced filter function would be reused in the ACPI and DT cases since
in those cases we have to apply mandatory data to the requested channel. Thus,
patch moves platform driver to use it in that case.
The function unlikely can't be used by users of the driver due to an implicit
dependency to the dw_dmac_core module.

Instead of one request line member let's use both source and destination ones.
Usually we have no such hardware except Atmel MMC controller found on AVR32
platform (see arch/avr32/mach-at32ap/at32ap700x.c and
drivers/mmc/host/atmel-mci.c).
This patch removes slave_id usage since it'll be removed from the generic
structure in later. This breaks the non-ACPI / non-DT cases for the users of
the driver, i.e. SPI and HSUART. However, these cases mean only PCI enumerated
devices for now, which is anyway broken (considering more than one DMA
controller in the system) and this patch series is intended to fix that
eventually.
The ACPI and DT cases shall be aware of the channel direction when setting
request lines, but this is a minor problem that would be addressed in future.

Currently there is no module_exit declared in SDMA driver, so that once
sdma module is inserted, it's shown with permanent attribute by lsmod,
and it can't be removed.
Use module_platform_driver to register/unregister SDMA driver and modify
SDMA's remove operation, to make SDMA driver possible to be removed.

Although this driver doesn't have any explicit compile-time architecture
dependencies, it is better not to bloat kernels on those platforms, where
this driver isn't needed, unless a compile test is being performed.

There've been many updates in ASoC side at this time, especially the
framework enhancement for multiple CODECs on a single DAI and more
componentization works. The only major change in ALSA core is the
addition of timestamp type in sw_params field. This should behave in
backward compatible way. Other than that, there are lots of small
changes and new drivers in wide range, including a large code cut in
HD-audio driver for deprecated static quirks. Some highlights are
below:

When printing size_t values we should use the %zd or %zx format specifier
in order to ensure the value is displayed correctly and avoid warnings from

A race possibility exists if a DMA slave driver tries to free channel
resources witout waiting for all transfers to complete and without
explicitly terminating all requests. In such a case the IRQ processing
thread can race with .device_free_chan_resources(). To fix this race empty
all descriptor lists before freeing descriptor cache.

DT boot does not yet support more than one edma device. To avoid issues at
runtime we should not register the second device when the kernel is booted

The sg list used to prepare cyclic DMA descriptors is currently
allocated statically on the stack as an array of 32 elements. This makes
the shdma_prep_dma_cyclic() function consume a lot of stack space, as
reported by the compiler:

The shdma_chan_filter() function relies on the DMA channel being
embedded in an shdma_chan structure. If this assumption isn't true, for
instance when the system contains DMA channels supported by an unrelated
driver, the function will crash.
Avoid this by returning false directly when the channel belongs to an
unrelated device.

The sun6i_dma_prep_memcpy and sun6i_dma_prep_slave_sg functions were both
leaking the descriptor they allocated if an error was happening after a
successful dma_pool_alloc call.
It also fixes a memleak that was happening in the scatter gather list
traversal, that was allocating as much descriptor as there was scatter gather
items, but only freeing the current descriptor if an error was to arise.

There's still a small window between the call to sun6i_kill_tasklet and the end
of the driver remove function where a spurious interrupt might trigger, and
start using deallocated resources.
Replace the call to synchronize_irq by a free_irq, so that we're sure that we
won't get any further interrupts when we're deallocating resources.

Move the DMA channel used in cyclic mode (audio) to the highest priority
event queue which helps to reduce audio problems.
When the channel is terminated, move it back to the default queue.
