and 00914025cc added quirk flags
US_FL_NO_READ_DISC_INFO and US_FL_NO_READ_CAPACITY_16 to
the usb-storage driver. However they did not add the corresponding flags
to adjust_quirks() in usb.c, so there was no facility for a user
to over-ride/add them via the quirks module parameter.

Update the existing example in the general mpic binding to have a
separate TCRx region. Currently the example doesn't describe TCRx at
all. The one upstream device tree with an mpic timer node (p1022ds)
uses one large reg region to describe both, even though there are other
unrelated registers in between. That device tree also contains a bogus
interrupt specifier, and there's no upstream software that uses this yet,
so changing this shouldn't be a problem.

If device drivers allocate substantial amounts of memory (above 1 MB)
in their hibernate .freeze() callbacks (or in their legacy suspend
callbcks during hibernation), the subsequent creation of hibernate
image may fail due to the lack of memory. This is the case, because
the drivers' .freeze() callbacks are executed after the hibernate
memory preallocation has been carried out and the preallocated amount
of memory may be too small to cover the new driver allocations.
Unfortunately, the drivers' .prepare() callbacks also are executed
after the hibernate memory preallocation has completed, so they are
not suitable for allocating additional memory either. Thus the only
way a driver can safely allocate memory during hibernation is to use
a hibernate/suspend notifier. However, the notifiers are called
before the freezing of user space and the drivers wanting to use them
for allocating additional memory may not know how much memory needs
to be allocated at that point.
To let device drivers overcome this difficulty rework the hibernation
sequence so that the memory preallocation is carried out after the
drivers' .prepare() callbacks have been executed, so that the
.prepare() callbacks can be used for allocating additional memory
to be used by the drivers' .freeze() callbacks. Update documentation
to match the new behavior of the code.

Martin reports that on his system hibernation occasionally fails due
to the lack of memory, because the radeon driver apparently allocates
too much of it during the device freeze stage. It turns out that the
amount of memory allocated by radeon during hibernation (and
presumably during system suspend too) depends on the utilization of
the GPU (e.g. hibernating while there are two KDE 4 sessions with
compositing enabled causes radeon to allocate more memory than for
one KDE 4 session).
In principle it should be possible to use image_size to make the
memory preallocation mechanism free enough memory for the radeon
driver, but in practice it is not easy to guess the right value
because of the way the preallocation code uses image_size. For this
reason, it seems reasonable to allow users to control the amount of
memory reserved for driver allocations made after the hibernate
preallocation, which currently is constant and amounts to 1 MB.
Introduce a new sysfs file, /sys/power/reserved_size, whose value
will be used as the amount of memory to reserve for the
post-preallocation reservations made by device drivers, in bytes.
For backwards compatibility, set its default (and initial) value to
the currently used number (1 MB).

Broadcom has released cards based on a new AMBA-based bus type. From a
programming point of view, this new bus type differs from AMBA and does
not use AMBA common registers. It also differs enough from SSB. We
decided that a new bus driver is needed to keep the code clean.
In its current form, the driver detects devices present on the bus and
registers them in the system. It allows registering BCMA drivers for
specified bus devices and provides them basic operations. The bus driver
itself includes two important bus managing drivers: ChipCommon core
driver and PCI(c) core driver. They are early used to allow correct
initialization.
Currently code is limited to supporting buses on PCI(e) devices, however
the driver is designed to be used also on other hosts. The host
abstraction layer is implemented and already used for PCI(e).
Support for PCI(e) hosts is working and seems to be stable (access to
80211 core was tested successfully on a few devices). We can still
optimize it by using some fixed windows, but this can be done later
without affecting any external code. Windows are just ranges in MMIO
used for accessing cores on the bus.

If RCU priority boosting is to be meaningful, callback invocation must
be boosted in addition to preempted RCU readers. Otherwise, in presence
of CPU real-time threads, the grace period ends, but the callbacks don't
get invoked. If the callbacks don't get invoked, the associated memory
doesn't get freed, so the system is still subject to OOM.
But it is not reasonable to priority-boost RCU_SOFTIRQ, so this commit
moves the callback invocations to a kthread, which can be boosted easily.

Commit d09b62d fixed grace-period synchronization, but left some smp_mb()
invocations in rcu_process_callbacks() that are no longer needed, but
sheer paranoia prevented them from being removed. This commit removes
them and provides a proof of correctness in their absence. It also adds
a memory barrier to rcu_report_qs_rsp() immediately before the update to
rsp->completed in order to handle the theoretical possibility that the
compiler or CPU might move massive quantities of code into a lock-based
critical section. This also proves that the sheer paranoia was not
entirely unjustified, at least from a theoretical point of view.
In addition, the old dyntick-idle synchronization depended on the fact
that grace periods were many milliseconds in duration, so that it could
be assumed that no dyntick-idle CPU could reorder a memory reference
across an entire grace period. Unfortunately for this design, the
addition of expedited grace periods breaks this assumption, which has
the unfortunate side-effect of requiring atomic operations in the
functions that track dyntick-idle state for RCU. (There is some hope
that the algorithms used in user-level RCU might be applied here, but
some work is required to handle the NMIs that user-space applications
can happily ignore. For the short term, better safe than sorry.)
This proof assumes that neither compiler nor CPU will allow a lock
acquisition and release to be reordered, as doing so can result in
deadlock. The proof is as follows:
1. A given CPU declares a quiescent state under the protection of
its leaf rcu_node's lock.
2. If there is more than one level of rcu_node hierarchy, the
last CPU to declare a quiescent state will also acquire the
->lock of the next rcu_node up in the hierarchy, but only
after releasing the lower level's lock. The acquisition of this
lock clearly cannot occur prior to the acquisition of the leaf
node's lock.
3. Step 2 repeats until we reach the root rcu_node structure.
Please note again that only one lock is held at a time through
this process. The acquisition of the root rcu_node's ->lock
must occur after the release of that of the leaf rcu_node.
4. At this point, we set the ->completed field in the rcu_state
structure in rcu_report_qs_rsp(). However, if the rcu_node
hierarchy contains only one rcu_node, then in theory the code
preceding the quiescent state could leak into the critical
section. We therefore precede the update of ->completed with a
memory barrier. All CPUs will therefore agree that any updates
preceding any report of a quiescent state will have happened
before the update of ->completed.
5. Regardless of whether a new grace period is needed, rcu_start_gp()
will propagate the new value of ->completed to all of the leaf
rcu_node structures, under the protection of each rcu_node's ->lock.
If a new grace period is needed immediately, this propagation
will occur in the same critical section that ->completed was
set in, but courtesy of the memory barrier in #4 above, is still
seen to follow any pre-quiescent-state activity.
6. When a given CPU invokes __rcu_process_gp_end(), it becomes
aware of the end of the old grace period and therefore makes
any RCU callbacks that were waiting on that grace period eligible
for invocation.
If this CPU is the same one that detected the end of the grace
period, and if there is but a single rcu_node in the hierarchy,
we will still be in the single critical section. In this case,
the memory barrier in step #4 guarantees that all callbacks will
be seen to execute after each CPU's quiescent state.
On the other hand, if this is a different CPU, it will acquire
the leaf rcu_node's ->lock, and will again be serialized after
each CPU's quiescent state for the old grace period.
On the strength of this proof, this commit therefore removes the memory
barriers from rcu_process_callbacks() and adds one to rcu_report_qs_rsp().
The effect is to reduce the number of memory barriers by one and to
reduce the frequency of execution from about once per scheduling tick
per CPU to once per grace period.

sysfs attributes to control the number of peer notifications
(gratuitous ARPs and unsolicited NAs) sent after bonding failover.
Also, it is possible for failover to take place even though the new
active slave does not have link up, and in that case the peer
notification should be deferred until it does.
Change ipv4 and ipv6 so they do not automatically send peer
notifications on bonding failover.
Change the bonding driver to send separate NETDEV_NOTIFY_PEERS
notifications when the link is up, as many times as requested. Since
it does not directly control which protocols send notifications, make
num_grat_arp and num_unsol_na aliases for a single parameter. Bump
the bonding version number and update its documentation.

Change flex_array_prealloc to take the number of elements for which space
should be allocated instead of the last (inclusive) element. Users
and documentation are updated accordingly. flex_arrays got introduced before
they had users. When folks started using it, they ended up needing a
different API than was coded up originally. This swaps over to the API that
folks apparently need.

Since 569b846d ("memcg: coalesce uncharge during unmap/truncate"), we do
batched (delayed) uncharge at truncation/unmap. And since cdec2e42(memcg:
coalesce charging via percpu storage), we have percpu cache for
res_counter.
These changes improved performance of memory cgroup very much, but made
res_counter->usage usually have a bigger value than the actual value of
memory usage. So, *.usage_in_bytes, which show res_counter->usage, are
not desirable for precise values of memory(and swap) usage anymore.
Instead of removing these files completely(because we cannot know
res_counter->usage without them), this patch updates the meaning of those
files.

There is an increasing amount of header files
shared between individual architectures in asm-generic.
To avoid a lot of dummy wrapper files that just
include the corresponding file in asm-generic provide
some basic support in kbuild for this.
With the following patch an architecture can maintain
a list of files in the file arch/$(ARCH)/include/asm/Kbuild
To use a generic file just add:
generic-y += <name-of-header-file.h>
For each file listed kbuild will generate the necessary
wrapper in arch/$(ARCH)/include/generated/asm.
When installing userspace headers a wrapper is likewise created.
The original inspiration for this came from the unicore32
patchset - although a different method is used.
The patch includes several improvements from Arnd Bergmann.
Michael Marek contributed Makefile.asm-generic.
Remis Baima did an intial implementation along to achive
the same - see https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/13352/

- all the integration parameters have been captured by the binding.
- the block name really uniquely identifies this hardware.
Some advocate putting SoC names everywhere in case software needs
to work around some chip-specific bug, but more precise SoC
information already exists in SVR, and board information already
exists in the top-level device tree node.
Note that sometimes the SoC name is a worse identifier than the
block version, as the block version can change between revisions
of the same SoC.
As a matter of historical reference, neither SEC versions 2.x
nor 3.x (driven by talitos) ever needed CHIP references.

Fi up conflicts in fs/ext4/super.c due to workqueue changes
While looking at dynamic-debug-howto.txt, I noticed that it references
dev_debug() (which doesn't exist) instead of dev_dbg() (which does
exist). I'm lazy, so I choose to fix the document rather than changing
every dev_dbg() call.

Now that inode state changes are protected by the inode->i_lock and
the inode LRU manipulations by the inode_lru_lock, we can remove the
inode_lock from prune_icache and the initial part of iput_final().
instead of using the inode_lock to protect the inode during
iput_final, use the inode->i_lock instead. This protects the inode
against new references being taken while we change the inode state
to I_FREEING, as well as preventing prune_icache from grabbing the
inode while we are manipulating it. Hence we no longer need the
inode_lock in iput_final prior to setting I_FREEING on the inode.
For prune_icache, we no longer need the inode_lock to protect the
LRU list, and the inodes themselves are protected against freeing
races by the inode->i_lock. Hence we can lift the inode_lock from
prune_icache as well.

ADFS (FileCore) storage complies with the RISC OS filetype specification
(12 bits of file type information is stored in the file load address,
rather than using a file extension). The existing driver largely ignores
this information and does not present it to the end user.
It is desirable that stored filetypes be made visible to the end user to
facilitate a precise copy of data and metadata from a hard disc (or image
thereof) into a RISC OS emulator (such as RPCEmu) or to a network share
which can be accessed by real Acorn systems.
This patch implements a per-mount filetype suffix option (use -o
ftsuffix=1) to present any filetype as a ,xyz hexadecimal suffix on each
file. This type suffix is compatible with that used by RISC OS systems
that access network servers using NFS client software and by RPCemu's host
filing system.

On some architectures, the boot process involves de-registering the boot
console (early boot), initialize drivers and then re-register the console.
This mechanism introduces a window in which no printk can happen on the
console and messages are buffered and then printed once the new console is
available.
If a kernel crashes during this window, all it's left on the boot console
is "console [foo] enabled, bootconsole disabled" making debug of the crash
rather 'interesting'.
By adding "keep_bootcon" option, do not unregister the boot console, that
will allow to printk everything that is happening up to the crash.
The option is clearly meant only for debugging purposes as it introduces
lots of duplicated info printed on console, but will make bug report from
users easier as it doesn't require a kernel build just to figure out where
we crash.

Add a userspace API to get, set and enumerate the media format on a
subdev pad.
The format at the output of a subdev usually depends on the format at
its input(s). The try format operation is thus not suitable for probing
format at individual pads, as it can't modify the device state and thus
can't remember the format tried at the input to compute the output
format.
To fix the problem, pass an extra argument to the get/set format
operations to select the 'try' or 'active' format.
The try format is used when probing the subdev. Setting the try format
must not change the device configuration but can store data for later
reuse. Data storage is provided at the file-handle level so applications
probing the subdev concurently won't interfere with each other.
The active format is used when configuring the subdev. It's identical to
the format handled by the usual get/set operations.
