Merge branch 'x86-pti-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull x86 pti updates from Thomas Gleixner: "This contains: - a PTI bugfix to avoid setting reserved CR3 bits when PCID is disabled. A full fix which restores BTS on PTI is non trivial and will be worked on. - PTI bugfixes for EFI and trusted boot which make sure that the user space visible page table entries have the NX bit cleared - removal of dead code in the PTI pagetable setup functions - add PTI documentation - add a selftest for vsyscall to verify that the kernel actually implements what it advertises. - a sysfs interface to expose vulnerability and mitigation information so there is a coherent way for users to retrieve the status. - the initial spectre_v2 mitigations, aka retpoline: + The necessary ASM thunk and compiler support + The ASM variants of retpoline and the conversion of affected ASM code + Make LFENCE serializing on AMD so it can be used as speculation trap + The RSB fill after vmexit - initial objtool support for retpoline As I said in the status mail this is the most of the set of patches which should go into 4.15 except two straight forward patches still on hold: - the retpoline add on of LFENCE which waits for ACKs - the RSB fill after context switch Both should be ready to go early next week and with that we'll have covered the major holes of spectre_v2 and go back to normality" * 'x86-pti-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (28 commits) x86,perf: Disable intel_bts when PTI security/Kconfig: Correct the Documentation reference for PTI x86/pti: Fix !PCID and sanitize defines selftests/x86: Add test_vsyscall x86/retpoline: Fill return stack buffer on vmexit x86/retpoline/irq32: Convert assembler indirect jumps x86/retpoline/checksum32: Convert assembler indirect jumps x86/retpoline/xen: Convert Xen hypercall indirect jumps x86/retpoline/hyperv: Convert assembler indirect jumps x86/retpoline/ftrace: Convert ftrace assembler indirect jumps x86/retpoline/entry: Convert entry assembler indirect jumps x86/retpoline/crypto: Convert crypto assembler indirect jumps x86/spectre: Add boot time option to select Spectre v2 mitigation x86/retpoline: Add initial retpoline support objtool: Allow alternatives to be ignored objtool: Detect jumps to retpoline thunks x86/pti: Make unpoison of pgd for trusted boot work for real x86/alternatives: Fix optimize_nops() checking sysfs/cpu: Fix typos in vulnerability documentation x86/cpu/AMD: Use LFENCE_RDTSC in preference to MFENCE_RDTSC ... |

x86/spectre: Add boot time option to select Spectre v2 mitigation
Add a spectre_v2= option to select the mitigation used for the indirect branch speculation vulnerability. Currently, the only option available is retpoline, in its various forms. This will be expanded to cover the new IBRS/IBPB microcode features. The RETPOLINE_AMD feature relies on a serializing LFENCE for speculation control. For AMD hardware, only set RETPOLINE_AMD if LFENCE is a serializing instruction, which is indicated by the LFENCE_RDTSC feature. x86/PCI: Add "pci=big_root_window" option for AMD 64-bit windows
Only try to enable a 64-bit window on AMD CPUs when "pci=big_root_window" is specified. This taints the kernel because the new 64-bit window uses address space we don't know anything about, and it may contain unreported devices or memory that would conflict with the window. The pci_amd_enable_64bit_bar() quirk that enables the window is specific to AMD CPUs. The generic solution would be to have the firmware enable the window and describe it in the host bridge's _CRS method, or at least describe it in the _PRS method so the OS would have the option of enabling it. printk: add console_msg_format command line option
0day and kernelCI automatically parse kernel log - basically some sort of grepping using the pre-defined text patterns - in order to detect and report regressions/errors. There are several sources they get the kernel logs from: a) dmesg or /proc/ksmg This is the preferred way. Because `dmesg --raw' (see later Note) and /proc/kmsg output contains facility and log level, which greatly simplifies grepping for EMERG/ALERT/CRIT/ERR messages. b) serial consoles This option is harder to maintain, because serial console messages don't contain facility and log level. This patch introduces a `console_msg_format=' command line option, to switch between different message formatting on serial consoles. For the time being we have just two options - default and syslog. The "default" option just keeps the existing format. While the "syslog" option makes serial console messages to appear in syslog format [syslog() syscall], matching the `dmesg -S --raw' and `cat /proc/kmsg' output formats: - facility and log level - time stamp (depends on printk_time/PRINTK_TIME) - message <%u>[time stamp] text\n NOTE: while Kevin and Fengguang talk about "dmesg --raw", it's actually "dmesg -S --raw" that always prints messages in syslog format [per Petr Mladek]. Running "dmesg --raw" may produce output in non-syslog format sometimes. console_msg_format=syslog enables syslog format, thus in documentation we mention "dmesg -S --raw", not "dmesg --raw". Per Kevin Hilman: : Right now we can get this info from a "dmesg --raw" after bootup, : but it would be really nice in certain automation frameworks to : have a kernel command-line option to enable printing of loglevels : in default boot log. : : This is especially useful when ingesting kernel logs into advanced : search/analytics frameworks (I'm playing with and ELK stack: Elastic : Search, Logstash, Kibana). : : The other important reason for having this on the command line is that : for testing linux-next (and other bleeding edge developer branches), : it's common that we never make it to userspace, so can't even run : "dmesg --raw" (or equivalent.) So we really want this on the primary : boot (serial) console. Per Fengguang Wu, 0day scripts should quickly benefit from that feature, because they will be able to switch to a more reliable parsing, based on messages' facility and log levels [1]: `#{grep} -a -E -e '^<[0123]>' -e '^kern :(err |crit |alert |emerg )' instead of doing text pattern matching `#{grep} -a -F -f /lkp/printk-error-messages #{kmsg_file} | grep -a -v -E -f #{LKP_SRC}/etc/oops-pattern | grep -a -v -F -f #{LKP_SRC}/etc/kmsg-blacklist` [1] https://github.com/fengguang/lkp-tests/blob/master/lib/dmesg.rb Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20171221054149.4398-1-sergey.senozhatsky@gmail.com To: Steven Rostedt <rostedt@goodmis.org> Cc: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Fengguang Wu <fengguang.wu@intel.com> Cc: Kevin Hilman <khilman@baylibre.com> Cc: Mark Brown <broonie@kernel.org> Cc: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> Cc: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Cc: LKML <linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Sergey Senozhatsky <sergey.senozhatsky@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Fengguang Wu <fengguang.wu@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Kevin Hilman <khilman@baylibre.com> Tested-by: Kevin Hilman <khilman@baylibre.com> Signed-off-by: Petr Mladek <pmladek@suse.com> |

only 64 GPEs (0x00 to 0x3F) can really be masked.
Use a bitmap of size 0xFF instead of a u64 for the GPE mask so 256
GPEs can be masked.

However, the 0444 permissions for both instances of torture_runnable prevent this use case from ever being put into practice. Given that there have been no complaints about this deficiency, it is reasonable to conclude that no one actually makes use of this sysfs capability. The perf_runnable module parameter for rcuperf is in the same situation. This commit therefore removes both torture_runnable instances as well as perf_runnable. ACPI / PM: Make it possible to ignore the system sleep blacklist
The ACPI code supporting system transitions to sleep states uses
an internal blacklist to apply special handling to some machines
reported to behave incorrectly in some ways.
However, some entries of that blacklist cover problematic as well as
non-problematic systems, so give the users of the latter a chance to
ignore the blacklist and run their systems in the default way by
adding acpi_sleep=nobl to the kernel command line.
For example, that allows the users of Dell XPS13 9360 systems not
affected by the issue that caused the blacklist entry for this
machine to be added by commit

platform-drivers-x86 for v4.15-1
For this cycle we have quite an update for the Dell SMBIOS driver including WMI work to provide an interface for SMBIOS tokens via sysfs and WMI support for 2017+ Dell laptop models. SMM dispatcher code is split into a separate driver followed by a new WMI dispatcher. The latter provides a character device interface to user space. The pull request contains a merge of immutable branch from Wolfram Sang in order to apply a dependent fix to the Intel CherryTrail Battery Management driver. Other Intel drivers got a lot of cleanups. The Turbo Boost Max 3.0 support is added for Intel Skylake. Peaq WMI hotkeys driver gets its own maintainer and white list of supported models. Silead DMI is expanded to support few additional platforms. Tablet mode via GMMS ACPI method is added to support some ThinkPad tablets. Two commits appear here which were previously merged during the v4.14-rcX cycle: - |

powerpc updates for 4.15
Non-highlights: - Five fixes for the >128T address space handling, both to fix bugs in our implementation and to bring the semantics exactly into line with x86. Highlights: - Support for a new OPAL call on bare metal machines which gives us a true NMI (ie. is not masked by MSR[EE]=0) for debugging etc. - Support for Power9 DD2 in the CXL driver. - Improvements to machine check handling so that uncorrectable errors can be reported into the generic memory_failure() machinery. - Some fixes and improvements for VPHN, which is used under PowerVM to notify the Linux partition of topology changes. - Plumbing to enable TM (transactional memory) without suspend on some Power9 processors (PPC_FEATURE2_HTM_NO_SUSPEND). - Support for emulating vector loads form cache-inhibited memory, on some Power9 revisions. - Disable the fast-endian switch "syscall" by default (behind a CONFIG), we believe it has never had any users. - A major rework of the API drivers use when initiating and waiting for long running operations performed by OPAL firmware, and changes to the powernv_flash driver to use the new API. - Several fixes for the handling of FP/VMX/VSX while processes are using transactional memory. - Optimisations of TLB range flushes when using the radix MMU on Power9. - Improvements to the VAS facility used to access coprocessors on Power9, and related improvements to the way the NX crypto driver handles requests. - Implementation of PMEM_API and UACCESS_FLUSHCACHE for 64-bit. irqchip/gic: Deal with broken firmware exposing only 4kB of GICv2 CPU interface
There is a lot of broken firmware out there that don't really expose the information the kernel requires when it comes with dealing with GICv2: (1) Firmware that only describes the first 4kB of GICv2 (2) Firmware that describe 128kB of CPU interface, while the usable portion of the address space is between 60 and 68kB So far, we only deal with (2). But we have platforms exhibiting behaviour (1), resulting in two sub-cases: (a) The GIC is occupying 8kB, as required by the GICv2 architecture (b) It is actually spread 128kB, and this is likely to be a version of (2) This patch tries to work around both (a) and (b) by poking at the outside of the described memory region, and try to work out what is actually there. This is of course unsafe, and should only be enabled if there is no way to otherwise fix the DT provided by the firmware (we provide a "irqchip.gicv2_force_probe" option to that effect). Note that for the time being, we restrict ourselves to GICv2 implementations provided by ARM, since there I have no knowledge of an alternative implementations. This could be relaxed if such an implementation comes to light on a broken platform. Reviewed-by: Christoffer Dall <cdall@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: Marc Zyngier <marc.zyngier@arm.com> |

powerpc/tm: Add commandline option to disable hardware transactional memory
Currently the kernel relies on firmware to inform it whether or not the CPU supports HTM and as long as the kernel was built with CONFIG_PPC_TRANSACTIONAL_MEM=y then it will allow userspace to make use of the facility. There may be situations where it would be advantageous for the kernel to not allow userspace to use HTM, currently the only way to achieve this is to recompile the kernel with CONFIG_PPC_TRANSACTIONAL_MEM=n. This patch adds a simple commandline option so that HTM can be disabled at boot time. s390: introduce CPU alternatives
Implement CPU alternatives, which allows to optionally patch newer instructions at runtime, based on CPU facilities availability. A new kernel boot parameter "noaltinstr" disables patching. Current implementation is derived from x86 alternatives. Although ideal instructions padding (when altinstr is longer then oldinstr) is added at compile time, and no oldinstr nops optimization has to be done at runtime. Also couple of compile time sanity checks are done: 1. oldinstr and altinstr must be <= 254 bytes long, 2. oldinstr and altinstr must not have an odd length. alternative(oldinstr, altinstr, facility); alternative_2(oldinstr, altinstr1, facility1, altinstr2, facility2); Both compile time and runtime padding consists of either 6/4/2 bytes nop or a jump (brcl) + 2 bytes nop filler if padding is longer then 6 bytes. .altinstructions and .altinstr_replacement sections are part of __init_begin : __init_end region and are freed after initialization. rcutorture: Add interrupt-disable capability to stall-warning tests
When rcutorture sees the rcutorture.stall_cpu kernel boot parameter, it loops with preemption disabled, which does in fact normally generate an RCU CPU stall warning message. However, there are test scenarios that need the stalling CPU to have interrupts disabled. This commit therefore adds an rcutorture.stall_cpu_irqsoff kernel boot parameter that causes the stalling CPU to disable interrupts. Signed-off-by: Paul E. McKenney <paulmck@linux.vnet.ibm.com> |

net: Add support for networking over Thunderbolt cable
ThunderboltIP is a protocol created by Apple to tunnel IP/ethernet traffic over a Thunderbolt cable. The protocol consists of configuration phase where each side sends ThunderboltIP login packets (the protocol is determined by UUID in the XDomain packet header) over the configuration channel. Once both sides get positive acknowledgment to their login packet, they configure high-speed DMA path accordingly. This DMA path is then used to transmit and receive networking traffic. This patch creates a virtual ethernet interface the host software can use in the same way as any other networking interface. Once the interface is brought up successfully network packets get tunneled over the Thunderbolt cable to the remote host and back. The connection is terminated by sending a ThunderboltIP logout packet over the configuration channel. We do this when the network interface is brought down by user or the driver is unloaded. platform/x86: Add driver to force WMI Thunderbolt controller power status
Current implementations of Intel Thunderbolt controllers will go into a low power mode when not in use. Many machines containing these controllers also have a GPIO wired up that can force the controller awake. This is offered via a ACPI-WMI interface intended to be manipulated by a userspace utility. This mechanism is provided by Intel to OEMs to include in BIOS. It uses an industry wide GUID that is populated in a separate _WDG entry with no binary MOF. This interface allows software such as fwupd to wake up thunderbolt controllers to query the firmware version or flash new firmware. drm: handle override and firmware EDID at drm_do_get_edid() level
Handle debugfs override edid and firmware edid at the low level to transparently and completely replace the real edid. Previously, we practically only used the modes from the override EDID, and none of the other data, such as audio parameters. This change also prevents actual EDID reads when the EDID is to be overridden, but retains the DDC probe. This is useful if the reason for preferring override EDID are problems with reading the data, or corruption of the data. Move firmware EDID loading from helper to core, as the functionality moves to lower level as well. This will result in a change of module parameter from drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware to drm.edid_firmware, which arguably makes more sense anyway. Some future work remains related to override and firmware EDID validation. Like before, no validation is done for override EDID. The firmware EDID is validated separately in the loader. Some unification and deduplication would be in order, to validate all of them at the drm_do_get_edid() level, like "real" EDIDs. v2: move firmware loading to core v3: rebase, commit message refresh Cc: Abdiel Janulgue <abdiel.janulgue@linux.intel.com> Cc: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> Cc: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Tested-by: Abdiel Janulgue <abdiel.janulgue@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Acked-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Jani Nikula <jani.nikula@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/1e8a710bcac46e5136c1a7b430074893c81f364a.1505203831.git.jani.nikula@intel.com |

mm, page_alloc: rip out ZONELIST_ORDER_ZONE
Patch series "cleanup zonelists initialization", v1. This is aimed at cleaning up the zonelists initialization code we have but the primary motivation was bug report [2] which got resolved but the usage of stop_machine is just too ugly to live. Most patches are straightforward but 3 of them need a special consideration. Patch 1 removes zone ordered zonelists completely. I am CCing linux-api because this is a user visible change. As I argue in the patch description I do not think we have a strong usecase for it these days. I have kept sysctl in place and warn into the log if somebody tries to configure zone lists ordering. If somebody has a real usecase for it we can revert this patch but I do not expect anybody will actually notice runtime differences. This patch is not strictly needed for the rest but it made patch 6 easier to implement. Patch 7 removes stop_machine from build_all_zonelists without adding any special synchronization between iterators and updater which I _believe_ is acceptable as explained in the changelog. I hope I am not missing anything. Patch 8 then removes zonelists_mutex which is kind of ugly as well and not really needed AFAICS but a care should be taken when double checking my thinking. This patch (of 9): Supporting zone ordered zonelists costs us just a lot of code while the usefulness is arguable if existent at all. Mel has already made node ordering default on 64b systems. 32b systems are still using ZONELIST_ORDER_ZONE because it is considered better to fallback to a different NUMA node rather than consume precious lowmem zones. This argument is, however, weaken by the fact that the memory reclaim has been reworked to be node rather than zone oriented. This means that lowmem requests have to skip over all highmem pages on LRUs already and so zone ordering doesn't save the reclaim time much. So the only advantage of the zone ordering is under a light memory pressure when highmem requests do not ever hit into lowmem zones and the lowmem pressure doesn't need to reclaim. Considering that 32b NUMA systems are rather suboptimal already and it is generally advisable to use 64b kernel on such a HW I believe we should rather care about the code maintainability and just get rid of ZONELIST_ORDER_ZONE altogether. Keep systcl in place and warn if somebody tries to set zone ordering either from kernel command line or the sysctl. There also are some changes in the system suspend area, mostly related to diagnostics and debug messages plus some renames of things related to suspend-to-idle. One major change here is that suspend-to-idle is now going to be preferred over S3 on systems where the ACPI tables indicate to do so and provide requsite support (the Low Power Idle S0 _DSM in particular). The system sleep documentation and the tools related to it are updated too. Pull x86 cache quality monitoring update from Thomas Gleixner: "This update provides a complete rewrite of the Cache Quality Monitoring (CQM) facility. The existing CQM support was duct taped into perf with a lot of issues and the attempts to fix those turned out to be incomplete and horrible. After lengthy discussions it was decided to integrate the CQM support into the Resource Director Technology (RDT) facility, which is the obvious choise as in hardware CQM is part of RDT. Merge branch 'x86-mm-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull x86 mm changes from Ingo Molnar: "PCID support, 5-level paging support, Secure Memory Encryption support The main changes in this cycle are support for three new, complex hardware features of x86 CPUs: - Add 5-level paging support, which is a new hardware feature on upcoming Intel CPUs allowing up to 128 PB of virtual address space and 4 PB of physical RAM space - a 512-fold increase over the old limits. (Supercomputers of the future forecasting hurricanes on an ever warming planet can certainly make good use of more RAM.) Many of the necessary changes went upstream in previous cycles, v4.14 is the first kernel that can enable 5-level paging. This feature is activated via CONFIG_X86_5LEVEL=y - disabled by default. (By Kirill A. Shutemov) - Add 'encrypted memory' support, which is a new hardware feature on upcoming AMD CPUs ('Secure Memory Encryption', SME) allowing system RAM to be encrypted and decrypted (mostly) transparently by the CPU, with a little help from the kernel to transition to/from encrypted RAM. Such RAM should be more secure against various attacks like RAM access via the memory bus and should make the radio signature of memory bus traffic harder to intercept (and decrypt) as well. s390/vmcp: make use of contiguous memory allocator
If memory is fragmented it is unlikely that large order memory allocations succeed. This has been an issue with the vmcp device driver since a long time, since it requires large physical contiguous memory ares for large responses. To hopefully resolve this issue make use of the contiguous memory allocator (cma). This patch adds a vmcp specific vmcp cma area with a default size of 4MB. The size can be changed either via the VMCP_CMA_SIZE config option at compile time or with the "vmcp_cma" kernel parameter (e.g. "vmcp_cma=16m"). For any vmcp response buffers larger than 16k memory from the cma area will be allocated. If such an allocation fails, there is a fallback to the buddy allocator. cpufreq: intel_pstate: Do not use PID-based P-state selection
All systems with a defined ACPI preferred profile that are not "servers" have been using the load-based P-state selection algorithm in intel_pstate since 4.12-rc1 (mobile systems and laptops have been using it since 4.10-rc1) and no problems with it have been reported to date. In particular, no regressions with respect to the PID-based P-state selection have been reported. Also testing indicates that the P-state selection algorithm based on CPU load is generally on par with the PID-based algorithm performance-wise, and for some workloads it turns out to be better than the other one, while being more straightforward and easier to understand at the same time. Moreover, the PID-based P-state selection algorithm in intel_pstate is known to be unstable in some situation and generally problematic, the issues with it are hard to address and it has become a significant maintenance burden. For these reasons, make intel_pstate use the "powersave" P-state selection algorithm based on CPU load in the active mode on all systems and drop the PID-based P-state selection code along with all things related to it from the driver. Also update the documentation accordingly. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com> |

documentation: Fix relation between nohz_full and rcu_nocbs
If a CPU is specified in the nohz_full= kernel boot parameter to a kernel built with CONFIG_NO_HZ_FULL=y, then that CPU's callbacks will be offloaded, just as if that CPU had also been specified in the rcu_nocbs= kernel boot parameter. But the current documentation states that the user must keep these two boot parameters manually synchronized. This commit therefore updates the documentation to reflect reality. cpufreq: governor: Drop min_sampling_rate
The cpufreq core and governors aren't supposed to set a limit on how fast we want to try changing the frequency. This is currently done for the legacy governors with help of min_sampling_rate. At worst, we may end up setting the sampling rate to a value lower than the rate at which frequency can be changed and then one of the CPUs in the policy will be only changing frequency for ever. But that is something for the user to decide and there is no need to have special handling for such cases in the core. Leave it for the user to figure out. char_dev: extend dynamic allocation of majors into a higher range
We've run into problems with running out of dynamicly assign char device majors particullarly on automated test systems with all-yes-configs. Roughly 40 dynamic assignments can be made with such kernels at this time while space is reserved for only 20. Currently, the kernel only prints a warning when dynamic allocation overflows the reserved region. And when this happens drivers that have fixed assignments can randomly fail depending on the order of initialization of other drivers. Thus, adding a new char device can cause unexpected failures in completely unrelated parts of the kernel. This patch solves the problem by extending dynamic major number allocations down from 511 once the 234-254 region fills up. Fixed majors already exist above 255 so the infrastructure to support high number majors is already in place. The patch reserves an additional 128 major numbers which should hopefully last us a while. Kernels that don't require more than 20 dynamic majors assigned (which is pretty typical) should not be affected by this change. mm: allow slab_nomerge to be set at build time
Some hardened environments want to build kernels with slab_nomerge already set (so that they do not depend on remembering to set the kernel command line option). This is desired to reduce the risk of kernel heap overflows being able to overwrite objects from merged caches and changes the requirements for cache layout control, increasing the difficulty of these attacks. By keeping caches unmerged, these kinds of exploits can usually only damage objects in the same cache (though the risk to metadata exploitation is unchanged). Merge branch 'next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jmorris/linux-security
Pull security layer updates from James Morris: - a major update for AppArmor. From JJ: * several bug fixes and cleanups * the patch to add symlink support to securityfs that was floated on the list earlier and the apparmorfs changes that make use of securityfs symlinks * it introduces the domain labeling base code that Ubuntu has been carrying for several years, with several cleanups applied. And it converts the current mediation over to using the domain labeling base, which brings domain stacking support with it. This finally will bring the base upstream code in line with Ubuntu and provide a base to upstream the new feature work that Ubuntu carries. * This does _not_ contain any of the newer apparmor mediation features/controls (mount, signals, network, keys, ...) that Ubuntu is currently carrying, all of which will be RFC'd on top of this. - Notable also is the Infiniband work in SELinux, and the new file:map permission. From Paul: "While we're down to 21 patches for v4.13 (it was 31 for v4.12), the diffstat jumps up tremendously with over 2k of line changes. Almost all of these changes are the SELinux/IB work done by Daniel Jurgens; some other noteworthy changes include a NFS v4.2 labeling fix, a new file:map permission, and reporting of policy capabilities on policy load" There's also now genfscon labeling support for tracefs, which was lost in v4.1 with the separation from debugfs. - Smack incorporates a safer socket check in file_receive, and adds a cap_capable call in privilege check. - TPM as usual has a bunch of fixes and enhancements. - Multiple calls to security_add_hooks() can now be made for the same LSM, to allow LSMs to have hook declarations across multiple files. - IMA now supports different "ima_appraise=" modes (eg. log, fix) from the boot command line. * 'next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jmorris/linux-security: (126 commits) apparmor: put back designators in struct initialisers seccomp: Switch from atomic_t to recount_t seccomp: Adjust selftests to avoid double-join seccomp: Clean up core dump logic IMA: update IMA policy documentation to include pcr= option ima: Log the same audit cause whenever a file has no signature ima: Simplify policy_func_show. integrity: Small code improvements ima: fix get_binary_runtime_size() ima: use ima_parse_buf() to parse template data ima: use ima_parse_buf() to parse measurements headers ima: introduce ima_parse_buf() ima: Add cgroups2 to the defaults list ima: use memdup_user_nul ima: fix up #endif comments IMA: Correct Kconfig dependencies for hash selection ima: define is_ima_appraise_enabled() ima: define Kconfig IMA_APPRAISE_BOOTPARAM option ima: define a set of appraisal rules requiring file signatures ima: extend the "ima_policy" boot command line to support multiple policies ... |

That includes the core suspend-to-idle code rework, support for the Low Power S0 _DSM interface, and support for the ACPI INT0002 Virtual GPIO device from Hans de Goede (required for USB keyboard wakeup from suspend-to-idle to work on some machines). - Stop trying to export the current CPU frequency via /proc/cpuinfo on x86 as that is inaccurate and confusing (Len Brown). - Rework the way in which the current CPU frequency is exported by the kernel (over the cpufreq sysfs interface) on x86 systems with the APERF and MPERF registers by always using values read from these registers, when available, to compute the current frequency regardless of which cpufreq driver is in use (Len Brown). - Rework the PCI/ACPI device wakeup infrastructure to remove the questionable and artificial distinction between "devices that can wake up the system from sleep states" and "devices that can generate wakeup signals in the working state" from it, which allows the code to be simplified quite a bit (Rafael Wysocki). - Fix the wakeup IRQ framework by making it use SRCU instead of RCU which doesn't allow sleeping in the read-side critical sections, but which in turn is expected to be allowed by the IRQ bus locking infrastructure (Thomas Gleixner). - Modify some computations in the intel_pstate driver to avoid rounding errors resulting from them (Srinivas Pandruvada). - Reduce the overhead of the intel_pstate driver in the HWP (hardware-managed P-states) mode and when the "performance" P-state selection algorithm is in use by making it avoid registering scheduler callbacks in those cases (Len Brown). - Rework the energy_performance_preference sysfs knob in intel_pstate by changing the values that correspond to different symbolic hint names used by it (Len Brown). - Make it possible to use more than one cpuidle driver at the same time on ARM (Daniel Lezcano). - Make it possible to prevent the cpuidle menu governor from using the 0 state by disabling it via sysfs (Nicholas Piggin). - Add support for FFH (Fixed Functional Hardware) MWAIT in ACPI C1 on AMD systems (Yazen Ghannam). - Make the CPPC cpufreq driver take the lowest nonlinear performance information into account (Prashanth Prakash). - Add support for hi3660 to the cpufreq-dt driver, fix the imx6q driver and clean up the sfi, exynos5440 and intel_pstate drivers (Colin Ian King, Krzysztof Kozlowski, Octavian Purdila, Rafael Wysocki, Tao Wang). - Fix a few minor issues in the generic power domains (genpd) framework and clean it up somewhat (Krzysztof Kozlowski, Mikko Perttunen, Viresh Kumar). - Fix a couple of minor issues in the operating performance points (OPP) framework and clean it up somewhat (Viresh Kumar). - Fix a CONFIG dependency in the hibernation core and clean it up slightly (Balbir Singh, Arvind Yadav, BaoJun Luo). - Add rk3228 support to the rockchip-io adaptive voltage scaling (AVS) driver (David Wu). - Fix an incorrect bit shift operation in the RAPL power capping driver (Adam Lessnau). - Add support for the EPP field in the HWP (hardware managed P-states) control register, HWP.EPP, to the x86_energy_perf_policy tool and update msr-index.h with HWP.EPP values (Len Brown). - Fix some minor issues in the turbostat tool (Len Brown). - Add support for AMD family 0x17 CPUs to the cpupower tool and fix a minor issue in it (Sherry Hurwitz). - Assorted cleanups, mostly related to the constification of some data structures (Arvind Yadav, Joe Perches, Kees Cook, Krzysztof Kozlowski). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iQIcBAABCAAGBQJZWrICAAoJEILEb/54YlRxZYMQAIRhfbyDxKq+ByvSilUS8kTA AItwJ8FFzykhiwN75Cqabg4rAGyWma7IRs1vzU7zeC1aEQIn+bTQtvk+utZNI+g2 ANFlDha20q/sXsP/CDMMTIAdW9tSOC0TOvFI9s2V2Y8dJZhoekO4ctx34FAfUS5d Ao6rwSAWCMsCXcGaTAlqTA+TEJmBG7u6Iq6hq6ngltoFwOv3mWWBVn52VVaJ7SMp 9/IPbbLGMFAedrgEBRGCR+MME1xZZpvcZIJaTt1Mgn7Cx3cJaysIUAvqY/SsvFGq 5FcUTcF2qpK3+AGawiAxZIjvOBsGRtIwqKinNIzYWs/NjiIdzmgVAmTeuPtTqp+5 HFehUdtkFcnuDnLqSNzAaZUa7tw84cJkwnbVMnesx0MkG6rZ1SeL22E2Sabpcdsh 3Yo1ThzJSxi59DhiiE92EQnNCEjmCldRy+8q5Ag035muxl6EJYvuNBMnZv/BMCUn ltSNOrmps1DlN+Col8ORIeNzQ1YjYzWMqKAYzSbyccm4ug/iSHx0/DuESmQ4GTlF YCwkmqyWiHrBwpl51jc+4a7SGlMmKRqU+MJes0CjagaaqoUAb8qeBOpzEJ0yNwjZ wtI41l6blE6kbMD3yqGdCfiB2S7GlPVoxa15eX1wRyLH3fLjwwrzJirEaiBS86tI 1PzHZEOmBlh3DYC6DBKA =Wsph -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'pm-4.13-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki: "The big ticket items here are the rework of suspend-to-idle in order to add proper support for power button wakeup from it on recent Dell laptops and the rework of interfaces exporting the current CPU frequency on x86. In addition to that, support for a few new pieces of hardware is added, the PCI/ACPI device wakeup infrastructure is simplified significantly and the wakeup IRQ framework is fixed to unbreak the IRQ bus locking infrastructure. Char/Misc patches for 4.13-rc1
Here is the "big" char/misc driver patchset for 4.13-rc1. Lots of stuff in here, a large thunderbolt update, w1 driver header reorg, the new mux driver subsystem, google firmware driver updates, and a raft of other smaller things. Full details in the shortlog. All of these have been in linux-next for a while with the only reported issue being a merge problem with this tree and the jc-docs tree in the w1 documentation area. The fix should be obvious for what to do when it happens, if not, we can send a follow-up patch for it afterward. TTY/Serial patches for 4.13-rc1
Here is the large tty/serial patchset for 4.13-rc1. A lot of tty and serial driver updates are in here, along with some fixups for some __get/put_user usages that were reported. Nothing huge, just lots of development by a number of different developers, full details in the shortlog. All of these have been in linux-next for a while. There will be a merge issue with the arm-soc tree in the include/linux/platform_data/atmel.h file. Stephen has sent out a fixup for it, so it shouldn't be that difficult to merge.
