Documentation/ABI: document /sys/class/net/*/dev_port
The sysfs field was introduced 4 years ago along with fixes to various drivers that erroneously used `dev_id' for that purpose, but it was not properly documented anywhere. See commit v3.14-rc3-739-g3f85944fe207. Signed-off-by: Arseny Maslennikov <ar@cs.msu.ru> Signed-off-by: Doug Ledford <dledford@redhat.com> |

vmbus: add driver_override support
Add support for overriding the default driver for a VMBus device in the same way that it can be done for PCI devices. This patch adds the /sys/bus/vmbus/devices/.../driver_override file and the logic for matching. This is used by driverctl tool to do driver override. https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgitlab.com%2Fdriverctl%2Fdriverctl&data=02%7C01%7Ckys%40microsoft.com%7C42e803feb2c544ef6ea908d5fd538878%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C636693457619960040&sdata=kEyYHRIjNZCk%2B37moCSqbrZL426YccNQrsWpENcrZdw%3D&reserved=0 Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <sthemmin@microsoft.com> Signed-off-by: K. PM / hibernate: Documentation: fix image_size default value
This commit updates the default value of /sys/power/image_size in the documentation. Since ac5c24ec1e983313ef0015258fba6f630e54e7cn the `image_size' value is set to about 2/5 of RAM, according to kernel/power/snapshot.c: image_size = ((totalram_pages * 2) / 5) * PAGE_SIZE; but this change was not reflected everywhere in the documentation. net: dsa: Expose tagging protocol to user-space
There is no way for user-space to know what a given DSA network device's tagging protocol is. Expose this information through a dsa/tagging attribute which reflects the tagging protocol currently in use. This is helpful for configuration (e.g: none behaves dramatically different wrt. bridges) as well as for packet capture tools when there is not a proper Ethernet type available. ethtool: drop get_settings and set_settings callbacks
Since [gs]et_settings ethtool_ops callbacks have been deprecated in February 2016, all in tree NIC drivers have been converted to provide [gs]et_link_ksettings() and out of tree drivers have had enough time to do the same. Drop get_settings() and set_settings() and implement both ETHTOOL_[GS]SET and ETHTOOL_[GS]LINKSETTINGS only using [gs]et_link_ksettings(). xen/blkback: don't keep persistent grants too long
Persistent grants are allocated until a threshold per ring is being reached. Those grants won't be freed until the ring is being destroyed meaning there will be resources kept busy which might no longer be used. platform-drivers-x86 for v4.19-1
The driver for Silead touchscreen configurations has been renamed from silead_dmi to touchscreen_dmi since it starts supporting other touchscreens which require some DMI quirks. At the same release cycle it gets expanded to cover cases for Chuwi Vi10, ONDA V891W, Connect Tablet 9, Onda V820w, and Cube KNote i1101 tablets. Another bunch of changes is related to Mellanox platform code to allow user space to communicate with Mellanox for system control and monitoring purposes. The driver notifies user on hotplug device signal receiving. ASUS WMI drivers recognize lid flip action on UX360, and correctly toggles airplane mode LED. In addition the keyboard backlight toggle gets support. ThinkPad ACPI driver enables support for calculator key (on at least P52). It also has been fixed to support three characters model designators, which are used for modern laptops. Earlier the battery, marked as BAT1, on ThinkPad laptops has not been configured properly, which is fixed. On the opposite the multi-battery configurations now probed correctly. Dell SMBIOS driver starts working on some Dell servers which do not support token interface. The regression with backlight detection has also been fixed. In order to support dock mode on some laptops, Intel virtual button driver has been fixed. The last but not least is the fix to Intel HID driver due to changes in Dell systems that prevented to use power button. The following is an automated git shortlog grouped by driver: acer-wmi: - Silence "unsupported" message a bit - refactor function has_cap asus-nb-wmi: - Add keymap entry for lid flip action on UX360 asus-wireless: - Fix uninitialized symbol usage - Toggle airplane mode LED asus-wmi: - Add keyboard backlight toggle support - Call led hw_changed API on kbd brightness change dell-laptop: - Fix backlight detection dell-smbios: - make a function and a pointer static dell-smbios-base: - Support systems without tokens dell-smbios-wmi: - make function dell_smbios_wmi_call static ideapad-laptop: - Add Y520-15IKBM and Y720-15IKBM to no_hw_rfkill - Apply no_hw_rfkill to Y20-15IKBM, too intel-hid: - Add support for Device Specific Methods intel_ips: - remove redundant variables slope and offset intel_pmc_core: - Add CNP SLPS0 debug registers intel_punit_ipc: - fix build errors intel-vbtn: - Add support for dock mode detection mlx-platform: - Fix copy-paste error in mlxplat_init() - Remove unused define - Change mlxreg-io configuration for MSN274x systems - Allow mlxreg-io driver activation for more systems - Add ASIC hotplug device configuration - Add new attribute for mlxreg-io sysfs interfaces - Add mlxreg-fan platform driver activation - Add documentation mlxreg-io sysfs interfaces - Add mlxreg-io platform driver activation platform/mellanox: - mlxreg-hotplug: Add hotplug hwmon uevent notification - mlxreg-hotplug: Improve mechanism of ASIC health discovery - Use 2-factor allocator calls - Introduce support for Mellanox register access driver thinkpad_acpi: - Fix multi-battery bug - extend battery quirk coverage - Support battery quirk - Proper model/release matching - Add support for calculator hotkey toshiba_acpi: - Fix defined but not used build warnings - Update KBD backlight LED on second gen laptops touchscreen_dmi: - Rename silead_dmi to touchscreen_dmi - Add touchscreen info for the Chuwi Vi10 tablet - Sort entries alphabetically - Rename trekstor entries - Add info for the Cube KNote i1101 tablet - Add info for the Onda V820w tablet - Add info for the "Connect Tablet 9" tablet - Add info for the ONDA V891W Dual OS tablet wmi: - Do not mix pages and kmalloc -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEhiZOUlnC9oKN3n3AmT3/83c5Sy0FAlt9wVgACgkQmT3/83c5 Sy3Jdg//WnEJZx7+zEsO+3dJnQGN4Fur6xhP79subRhZPFNTZ+D5vMHC9DL8ZQYx U8Kz1ilxCC5HuOo2S1BlzRG+h6ztMSYIFo2H8KRdygOqALEH7hoStPEGYdZcQ0qE 6SKa4MnRw46UcGPij3f6STPiOjicPaLoUSTXZmi2dbmy6sJZMMJamvnRhezgEgJl rA6xvg+tKNBK2jwLpAVfLhy4Btd6LCE4EGgkYdnytOM9ByHLDsTWCZxd/9h7WjPa L8Zd8rftrazWF6X2tAhpXtUcMPg/D4lfL5HHaMmL9FioycQ88WqDBZN5sEWdIbaP OfaMbcbhCIrrHoMNdq0544IgqRQahX+m3VjSkVf3/Aj5AU0nUJMBWSpGHAs7UCSN 8i8M2jdpVW7CVxA+4OU2l19udKrQzXutfXXhVYX0B3hKCkH7TBKax+m/ev9n2yvZ KoTdSJ/4bB6iGhXF8/MA6H72k0g972d4WXozbTusiBO9grqgU1EIe5bYZ4y+FkJL 9gtK1xgtDJB7J8U14lpGC+zKhcYn1Mn3Iq4i5HD3sfnKsVGGWJIjRZsDtALD2RKT OQe7S8xhQWqsUZFGNflWL+8oHyXOHGD5Q8b/YI92ubriyAzh3I3Ybt/atk20vdmG QfKU46suOoOUwcAs00v13oo+9s9GatekXEjGgdRJ14vgzdgx3lc= =vRud -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'platform-drivers-x86-v4.19-1' of git://git.infradead.org/linux-platform-drivers-x86 Pull x86 platform driver updates from Andy Shevchenko: - The driver for Silead touchscreen configurations has been renamed from silead_dmi to touchscreen_dmi since it starts supporting other touchscreens which require some DMI quirks It also gets expanded to cover cases for Chuwi Vi10, ONDA V891W, Connect Tablet 9, Onda V820w, and Cube KNote i1101 tablets. - Another bunch of changes is related to Mellanox platform code to allow user space to communicate with Mellanox for system control and monitoring purposes. f2fs-for-4.19-rc1
In this round, we've tuned f2fs to improve general performance by serializing block allocation and enhancing discard flows like fstrim which avoids user IO contention. And we've added fsync_mode=nobarrier which gives an option to user where it skips issuing cache_flush commands to underlying flash storage. And there are many bug fixes related to fuzzed images, revoked atomic writes, quota ops, and minor direct IO. Enhancement: - add fsync_mode=nobarrier which bypasses cache_flush command - enhance the discarding flow which avoids user IOs and issues in LBA order - readahead some encrypted blocks during GC - enable in-memory inode checksum to verify the blocks if F2FS_CHECK_FS is set - enhance nat_bits behavior - set -o discard by default - set REQ_RAHEAD to bio in ->readpages Bug fixes: - fix a corner case to corrupt atomic_writes revoking flow - revisit i_gc_rwsem to fix race conditions - fix some dio behaviors captured by xfstests - correct handling errors given by quota-related failures - add many sanity check flows to avoid fuzz test failures - add more error number propagation to their callers - fix several corner cases to continue fault injection w/ shutdown loop -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEE00UqedjCtOrGVvQiQBSofoJIUNIFAlt82U4ACgkQQBSofoJI UNJTLQ/+PhewnNa5tDfUgWdFnUFz3h9/NcC677l0OplOOUNxA8iSa1xamlKf/nf9 sB5ey0I7oBF8zQGxfndhHQfi6fpfUcNMr14hm+TS/3+d54xLJmiVShD5fjNSV2vB Ur0xoozuQDwYF1e3QKdBQjFqaCf78VheTr3aWxyv22/Sg+PYylZJ2K8rHTB7mGPU UG0aRnKrP3FPRjL7Q3m0Vm6b6eZ5uNdNrFfjgn/8yuQQ9V197K8vwSbPAsR5/pOh miCQXyM708NgEYJRWkWmC/rDSQdU0/h/mGnJWrBrbceW62QefGOgd2jcVfmthHJa ZXpj+BEG5bYpCCxGxF6N+u0e28OKonCwO/uvL8YAd5icN7yXtsKzoF1CCuXxOYf1 9K5SMylCTSyrs/+LV8CJoT2ya8w0l0w+R/txUYn8UT+4AgqU+chS2kJeXqw9tcHB WLFs/rnAyofWCI/8frVBmJY+zA1ZZvTqs/lmVYrtJUkiOcMTq34WICBUAEFKV452 BM5dcu21bSIkapYispEt4Rr7o4P4HHMQ+N1i2yUZMFCz5T0RyzdybeS5THk2yVzd L0kxfYU+zHigNX51ez8+Z7DyDLDBp6jkD0e66x73bUK9TGPH+ZbnAL6gwLikmD3M +VxYl5nyW/3bxx1HdfK1Xwd4/wYMNBmdtn5NC50oZ+jpB0h8YCE= =zgbL -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'f2fs-for-4.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jaegeuk/f2fs Pull f2fs updates from Jaegeuk Kim: "In this round, we've tuned f2fs to improve general performance by serializing block allocation and enhancing discard flows like fstrim which avoids user IO contention. Char/Misc driver patches for 4.19-rc1
Here is the bit set of char/misc drivers for 4.19-rc1 There is a lot here, much more than normal, seems like everyone is writing new driver subsystems these days... Anyway, major things here are: - new FSI driver subsystem, yet-another-powerpc low-level hardware bus - gnss, finally an in-kernel GPS subsystem to try to tame all of the crazy out-of-tree drivers that have been floating around for years, combined with some really hacky userspace implementations. This is only for GNSS receivers, but you have to start somewhere, and this is great to see. Other than that, there are new slimbus drivers, new coresight drivers, new fpga drivers, and loads of DT bindings for all of these and existing drivers. Full details of everything is in the shortlog. Staging/IIO patches for 4.19-rc1
Here are the big staging/iio patches for 4.19-rc1. Lots of churn here, with tons of cleanups happening in staging drivers, a removal of an old crypto driver that no one was using (skein), and the addition of some new IIO drivers. Also added was a "gasket" driver from Google that needs loads of work and the erofs filesystem. Even with adding all of the new drivers and a new filesystem, we are only adding about 1000 lines overall to the kernel linecount, which shows just how much cleanup happened, and how big the unused crypto driver was. All of these have been in the linux-next tree for a while now with no reported issues. Note, you will have a merge problem with a device tree IIO file and the MAINTAINERS file, both resolutions are easy, just take all changed. There will be a skein file merge issue as well, but that file got deleted so just drop that. Nothing huge but there was a lot of work that happened this development cycle: - lots of type-c work, with drivers graduating out of staging, and displayport support being added. - new PHY drivers - the normal collection of gadget driver updates and fixes - code churn to work on the urb handling path, using irqsave() everywhere in anticipation of making this codepath a lot simpler in the future. - usbserial driver fixes and reworks - other misc changes Full details are in the shortlog. All of these have been in linux-next with no reported issues for a while. powerpc updates for 4.19
Notable changes: - A fix for a bug in our page table fragment allocator, where a page table page could be freed and reallocated for something else while still in use, leading to memory corruption etc. The fix reuses pt_mm in struct page (x86 only) for a powerpc only refcount. - Fixes to our pkey support. Several are user-visible changes, but bring us in to line with x86 behaviour and/or fix outright bugs. Thanks to Florian Weimer for reporting many of these. - A series to improve the hvc driver & related OPAL console code, which have been seen to cause hardlockups at times. The hvc driver changes in particular have been in linux-next for ~month. - Increase our MAX_PHYSMEM_BITS to 128TB when SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP=y. - Remove Power8 DD1 and Power9 DD1 support, neither chip should be in use anywhere other than as a paper weight. - An optimised memcmp implementation using Power7-or-later VMX instructions - Support for barrier_nospec on some NXP CPUs. - Support for flushing the count cache on context switch on some IBM CPUs (controlled by firmware), as a Spectre v2 mitigation. - A series to enhance the information we print on unhandled signals to bring it into line with other arches, including showing the offending VMA and dumping the instructions around the fault. regulator: Changes for v4.19
The biggest set of changes in here is the addition of the Qualcomm RPMH driver. As well as the regualtor driver itself being quite large due to the usual involved Qualcomm regulator stuff there's also some code shared with the arm-soc tree, a bus driver required to communicate with the hardware that actually winds up being much larger than the regulator driver itself and a LLCC driver that was part of the same signed tag used with the arm-soc tree. Other than that it's a fairly standard and quiet release, highlights include: - Addition of device links from regulator consumers to their regulators, helping the core avoid dependency issues during suspend. - Support for the entertainingly innovative suspend implementation in the BD9571MWV. - Support for switch regulators on the PFUZE100, this required two goes due to backwards compatibility issues with old DTs that were discovered. - Support for Freescale PFUZE3001 and SocioNext UniPhier. - The aforementioned Qualcomm RPMH driver together with the driver changes required to support it. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQFHBAABCgAxFiEEreZoqmdXGLWf4p/qJNaLcl1Uh9AFAltxi/ATHGJyb29uaWVA a2VybmVsLm9yZwAKCRAk1otyXVSH0GNxB/99LLeB+gfD4ckoU07Az/k77+CfIZ8D HEUA9ryP4y6isUxpZMGcZhKa48ag9RxTuAGK+gGWtKUHxPIH6o0CuRLbGm3GOo99 MTbbMaJRJIHkwsh8XjX2Adr02XSzU/9r2T3rpZD10T/J1Qj1D3W1YuvaE/fQuOII XW8QWhRuTWbVI/gSIEj+o2PcVK77yb9Nr+llNvS+BOlFAlnNo1tx3qCJ1bUiVEyD DhLkL0n0XfaOpbtZV5DIsVDiMsB+/TnXtqiijfvq0qi5SHh6jECpQYNWHBNyIkwj 4N9NQ9xfC6bArAl9tWxXvJrVXUqFSRagHeB2xLD6piWcZ0DC4K0QfEW2 =WiXl -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'regulator-v4.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/regulator Pull regulator updates from Mark Brown: "The biggest set of changes in here is the addition of the Qualcomm RPMH driver. usb: changes for v4.19
Not a big pull request with only 37 non-merge commits, most of which are touching dwc2 (74% of the changes). The most important changes are dwc2's support for uframe scheduling and its endian-agnostic readl/writel wrappers. From dwc3 side we have a special new glue layer for Synopsys HAPS which will help Synopsys running FPGA validation using our upstream driver. We also have the beginnings of dual-role support for Intel Merrifield platform. Apart from these, just a series of non-critical changes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQJRBAABCgA7FiEElLzh7wn96CXwjh2IzL64meEamQYFAltewsEdHGZlbGlwZS5i YWxiaUBsaW51eC5pbnRlbC5jb20ACgkQzL64meEamQaV8BAAziA9QIT6to7Zzd7t tsfU3chXUS2t+fZ6drADdHHwJTvjCT4D9FbpYFSNC9lanSLB+IwQ6rZGglyyPh5P DVcWObi8wR1+w8gcx+NL65XuzM/oM8Sx+zSA+3hV7H8A1ePikd+wFpXcZhY0zoLS 00BoAf66CvRvGAGX8e1HouL4LPs/V5vllxcObKLrzcziCNziLhAy1MkONAwSagvP JA50nh0Jau6p/+inF/931oeixmVvTV0xJjqveIf6cVsyv9jNy+I53rFwVsaiSVLz dvzrnPmzWbT4F1yuLgqXccd68FF4Zm+Vl+uHyzaZ7b8e1JK7ABg9a7Us6CjP9HXq aw63hUKmrsTsTyLCWkoU6ypeCYJF3Et49pzicLRFOdXufWJLTRa0iNbgyf8gNOQt K8igJZkmHnb4RByLITtHot3Qdpn2Mr+8Cu/H4TpqQBAKom6mxdwkfm4lojBzLoRn IIr81yTJD00uqgQ40IeoFyV5zz4CqMti3GQX8QXO2wdbrKlaLCr4UDuu4llE2AJ9 1cYV8SMoC2yXaGsshe2dvCq4/lhxiOXPBNoR/GvtvXd84AXaYCsuphUhSGTybYLG a3LO72mn4R8hAnqzh3+xyC4Irs9hgVJUKOD7fFn0ZPvCXgLUQIYRimIprEQ0EsCI /lcdOwOheSGM9Fq5U/fcWDdZcmE= =HiNz -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'usb-for-v4.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/balbi/usb into usb-next Felipe writes: usb: changes for v4.19 Not a big pull request with only 37 non-merge commits, most of which are touching dwc2 (74% of the changes). fpga: dfl: afu: add afu sub feature support
User Accelerated Function Unit sub feature exposes the MMIO region of the AFU. After valid PR bitstream is programmed and the port is enabled, then this MMIO region could be accessed. This patch adds support to enumerate the AFU MMIO region and expose it to userspace via mmap file operation. Below interfaces are exposed to user: Sysfs interface: * /sys/class/fpga_region/<regionX>/<dfl-port.x>/afu_id Read-only. Indicate which PR bitstream is programmed to this AFU. Ioctl interfaces: * DFL_FPGA_PORT_GET_INFO Provide info to userspace on the number of supported region. x86/bugs, kvm: Introduce boot-time control of L1TF mitigations
Introduce the 'l1tf=' kernel command line option to allow for boot-time switching of mitigation that is used on processors affected by L1TF. The possible values are: full Provides all available mitigations for the L1TF vulnerability. Disables SMT and enables all mitigations in the hypervisors. SMT control via /sys/devices/system/cpu/smt/control is still possible after boot. Hypervisors will issue a warning when the first VM is started in a potentially insecure configuration, i.e. SMT enabled or L1D flush disabled. full, force Same as 'full', but disables SMT control. Implies the 'nosmt=force' command line option. sysfs control of SMT and the hypervisor flush control is disabled. flush Leaves SMT enabled and enables the conditional hypervisor mitigation. Hypervisors will issue a warning when the first VM is started in a potentially insecure configuration, i.e. SMT enabled or L1D flush disabled. flush, nosmt Disables SMT and enables the conditional hypervisor mitigation. SMT control via /sys/devices/system/cpu/smt/control is still possible after boot. If SMT is reenabled or flushing disabled at runtime hypervisors will issue a warning. flush, nowarn Same as 'flush', but hypervisors will not warn when a VM is started in a potentially insecure configuration. off Disables hypervisor mitigations and doesn't emit any warnings. Default is 'flush'. Let KVM adhere to these semantics, which means: - 'lt1f=full,force' : Performe L1D flushes. No runtime control possible. - 'l1tf=full' - 'l1tf-flush' - 'l1tf=flush,nosmt' : Perform L1D flushes and warn on VM start if SMT has been runtime enabled or L1D flushing has been run-time enabled - 'l1tf=flush,nowarn' : Perform L1D flushes and no warnings are emitted. - 'l1tf=off' : L1D flushes are not performed and no warnings are emitted. KVM can always override the L1D flushing behavior using its 'vmentry_l1d_flush' module parameter except when lt1f=full,force is set. This makes KVM's private 'nosmt' option redundant, and as it is a bit non-systematic anyway (this is something to control globally, not on hypervisor level), remove that option. First set of IIO new device support, features and cleanups in the 4.19 cycle
The usual mixed bunch. Particular good to see is the generic touch screen driver. Will be interesting to see if this works for other ADCs without major changes. Core features * Channel types - New position relative channel type primarily for touch screen sensors to feed the generic touchscreen driver. New device support * ad5586 - Add support for the AD5311R DAC. * Generic touch screen driver as an IIO consumer. - Note this is in input, but due to dependencies is coming through the IIO tree. - Specific support for this added to the at91-sama5d2 ADC. - Various necessary DT bindings added. Staging Drops * ADIS16060 gyro - A device with a very odd interface that was never cleanly supported. It's now very difficult to get, so unlikely it'll ever be fixed up. cpu/hotplug: Provide knobs to control SMT
Provide a command line and a sysfs knob to control SMT. The command line options are: 'nosmt': Enumerate secondary threads, but do not online them 'nosmt=force': Ignore secondary threads completely during enumeration via MP table and ACPI/MADT. The sysfs control file has the following states (read/write): 'on': SMT is enabled. Secondary threads can be freely onlined 'off': SMT is disabled. Secondary threads, even if enumerated cannot be onlined 'forceoff': SMT is permanentely disabled. Writes to the control file are rejected. 'notsupported': SMT is not supported by the CPU The command line option 'nosmt' sets the sysfs control to 'off'. This can be changed to 'on' to reenable SMT during runtime. The command line option 'nosmt=force' sets the sysfs control to 'forceoff'. This cannot be changed during runtime. When SMT is 'on' and the control file is changed to 'off' then all online secondary threads are offlined and attempts to online a secondary thread later on are rejected. When SMT is 'off' and the control file is changed to 'on' then secondary threads can be onlined again. The 'off' -> 'on' transition does not automatically online the secondary threads. When the control file is set to 'forceoff', the behaviour is the same as setting it to 'off', but the operation is irreversible and later writes to the control file are rejected. When the control status is 'notsupported' then writes to the control file are rejected. In this round, we've mainly focused on discard, aka unmap, control along with fstrim for Android-specific usage model. In addition, we've fixed writepage flow which returned EAGAIN previously resulting in EIO of fsync(2) due to mapping's error state. iio: Add channel for Position Relative
Add new channel type for relative position on a pad. These type of analog sensor offers the position of a pen on a touchpad, and is represented as a voltage, which can be converted to a position on X and Y axis on the pad. The channel will hand the relative position on the pad in both directions. The channel can then be consumed by a touchscreen driver or read as-is for a raw indication of the touchpen on a touchpad. Staging/IIO patches for 4.18-rc1
Here is the big staging and IIO driver update for 4.18-rc1. It was delayed as I wanted to make sure the final driver deletions did not cause any major merge issues, and all now looks good. There are a lot of patches here, just over 1000. The diffstat summary shows the major changes here: 1007 files changed, 16828 insertions(+), 227770 deletions(-) Because of this, we might be close to shrinking the overall kernel source code size for two releases in a row. There was loads of work in this release cycle, primarily: - tons of ks7010 driver cleanups - lots of mt7621 driver fixes and cleanups - most driver cleanups - wilc1000 fixes and cleanups - lots and lots of IIO driver cleanups and new additions - debugfs cleanups for all staging drivers - lots of other staging driver cleanups and fixes, the shortlog has the full details. but the big user-visable things here are the removal of 3 chunks of code: - ncpfs and ipx were removed on schedule, no one has cared about this code since it moved to staging last year, and if it needs to come back, it can be reverted. - lustre file system is removed. I've ranted at the lustre developers about once a year for the past 5 years, with no real forward progress at all to clean things up and get the code into the "real" part of the kernel. Given that the lustre developers continue to work on an external tree and try to port those changes to the in-kernel tree every once in a while, this whole thing really really is not working out at all. So I'm deleting it so that the developers can spend the time working in their out-of-tree location and get things cleaned up properly to get merged into the tree correctly at a later date. Because of these file removals, you will have merge issues on some of these files (2 in the ipx code, 1 in the ncpfs code, and 1 in the atomisp driver). Just delete those files, it's a simple merge :) All of this has been in linux-next for a while with no reported problems. powerpc updates for 4.18
Notable changes: - Support for split PMD page table lock on 64-bit Book3S (Power8/9). - Add support for HAVE_RELIABLE_STACKTRACE, so we properly support live patching again. - Add support for patching barrier_nospec in copy_from_user() and syscall entry. - A couple of fixes for our data breakpoints on Book3S. - A series from Nick optimising TLB/mm handling with the Radix MMU. - Numerous small cleanups to squash sparse/gcc warnings from Mathieu Malaterre. - Several series optimising various parts of the 32-bit code from Christophe Leroy. - Removal of support for two old machines, "SBC834xE" and "C2K" ("GEFanuc,C2K"), which is why the diffstat has so many deletions. And many other small improvements & fixes. There's a few out-of-area changes. Some minor ftrace changes OK'ed by Steve, and a fix to our powernv cpuidle driver. Then there's a series touching mm, x86 and fs/proc/task_mmu.c, which cleans up some details around pkey support. It was ack'ed/reviewed by Ingo & Dave and has been in next for several weeks. acpi, nfit: Remove ecc_unit_size
The "Clear Error Unit" may be smaller than the ECC unit size on some devices. For example, poison may be tracked at 64-byte alignment even though the ECC unit is larger. Unless / until the ACPI specification provides a non-ambiguous way to communicate this property do not expose this to userspace. Software that had been using this property must already be prepared for the case where the property is not provided on older kernels, so it is safe to remove this attribute. The issue is caused as on Power-8 the AFU attr 'prefault_mode' was
used to improve initial storage fault performance by prefaulting
process segments. However on Power-9 with radix mode we don't have
Storage-Segments that we can prefault. Also prefaulting process Pages
will be too costly and fine-grained.
Hence, since the prefaulting mechanism doesn't makes sense of
radix-mode, this patch updates prefault_mode_store() to not allow any
other value apart from CXL_PREFAULT_NONE when radix mode is enabled.

The "old" enumeration scheme is considerably faster (it takes ~244ms instead of ~356ms to get the descriptor). It is currently only possible to use the old scheme globally (/sys/module/usbcore/parameters/old_scheme_first), which is not desirable as the new scheme was introduced to increase compatibility with more devices. However, in our case, we care about time-to-active for a specific USB device (which we make the firmware for), on a specific port (that is pogo-pin based: not a standard USB port). ima: define a new policy condition based on the filesystem name
If/when file data signatures are distributed with the file data, this patch will not be needed. In the current environment where only some files are signed, the ability to differentiate between file systems is needed. Some file systems consider the file system magic number internal to the file system. This patch defines a new IMA policy condition named "fsname", based on the superblock's file_system_type (sb->s_type) name. This allows policy rules to be expressed in terms of the filesystem name. The following sample rules require file signatures on rootfs files executed or mmap'ed. appraise func=BPRM_CHECK fsname=rootfs appraise_type=imasig appraise func=FILE_MMAP fsname=rootfs appraise_type=imasig Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Cc: Dave Chinner <david@fromorbit.com> Cc: Theodore Ts'o <tytso@mit.edu> |

EVM: Allow runtime modification of the set of verified xattrs
Sites may wish to provide additional metadata alongside files in order to make more fine-grained security decisions[1]. The security of this is enhanced if this metadata is protected, something that EVM makes possible. However, the kernel cannot know about the set of extended attributes that local admins may wish to protect, and hardcoding this policy in the kernel makes it difficult to change over time and less convenient for distributions to enable. This patch adds a new /sys/kernel/security/integrity/evm/evm_xattrs node, which can be read to obtain the current set of EVM-protected extended attributes or written to in order to add new entries. Extending this list will not change the validity of any existing signatures provided that the file in question does not have any of the additional extended attributes - missing xattrs are skipped when calculating the EVM hash. [1] For instance, a package manager could install information about the package uploader in an additional extended attribute. Local LSM policy could then be associated with that extended attribute in order to restrict the privileges available to packages from less trusted uploaders. 1st round of IIO new device support, features and cleanup for the 4.18 cycle
A nice mix this time of excellent cleanups (many to send drivers speeding toward staging graduations) and new drivers / device support. A good part of this is Brian Masney's never ending task on the tsl2x7x driver. The end is in sight so hopefully we'll get that one out of staging very soon! New device support * AD5686 - Support AD5685R (was wrongly present as AD5685) - Support AD5672R, AD5676, AD5676, AD5684R and AD5686R 4 and 8 channel SPI DACs with various precisions. - Support AD5671R, AD5675R, AD5694, AD5694R, AD5695R, AD5696 and AD5696R I2C DACs with various percisions and numbers of channels. * Analog front end rescale driver - New driver. - Support current sensing usings a shunt resistor. - Support simple voltage dividers. - support simple current sense amplifiers. * TI dac5571 - New driver and device bindings supporting: dac5571, dac6571, dac7571, dac5574, dac6574, dac7574, dac5573, dac6573 and dac7573 * Meson-adc - Support for Meson AXG with DT bindings. * mpu6050 - Support the mpu9255 which only requires additional WHOAMI entry and compatible string. * st_lsm6dsx - Support for lsm330dlc combinded accelerometer and gyro sensors with DT bindings. * stm32_adc - Add support for STM32MP1 with bindings. Staging graduations * adis16201 after some excelent cleanup by Himanshu Jha. * adis16029 after some excelent cleanup by Shreeya Patel. New features: * ABI docs - Add core ABI docs for angle channels. * inv_mpu6050 - Provide support for the full range of interrupts the device supports. * st_accel - Add SMO8840 ACPI ID seen in the wild on some Lenovo machines. * stx104 - Provide a multiple gpio get function. Cleanups / Minor fixes * core - Use new nested structure support to improve kernel-doc. * ad2s1200 - Use be16_to_cpup instead of opencoding. * ad5686 - Indentation tidy up. - Switch to SPDX - Refactor to allow various numbers of channels. - Refactor to separate core and SPI specific support, prior to addition of i2c equivalent devices. * ad7606 - Use drvdata directly from device rather than boucing via the platform_device structure. * ad7746 - Replace opencoded byte swapped i2c calls with _swapped variants. - White space and line break readability improvements. - Reorder includes and variable declarations where appropriate. * ad7791 - Changes to the AD ADC library used by this driver took in the sampling frequency. This lead to be the wrong path being the one tied to the resulting attribute, so it didn't work, and a warning to be printed. * ad7780 - Remove apparent support for sampling frequency control on devices that don't support changing the sampling attributes. * |

power: supply: Add 'usb_type' property and supporting code
This commit adds the 'usb_type' property to represent USB supplies which can report a number of different types based on a connection event. Examples of this already exist in drivers whereby the existing 'type' property is updated, based on an event, to represent what was connected (e.g. USB, USB_DCP, USB_ACA, ...). Current implementations however don't show all supported connectable types, so this knowledge has to be exlicitly known for each driver that supports this. The 'usb_type' property is intended to fill this void and show users all possible USB types supported by a driver. The property, when read, shows all available types for the driver, and the one currently chosen is highlighted/bracketed. It is expected that the 'type' property would then just show the top-level type 'USB', and this would be static. Currently the 'usb_type' enum contains all of the USB variant types that exist for the 'type' enum at this time, and in addition has SDP and PPS types. The mirroring is intentional so as to not impact existing usage of the 'type' property. Pull integrity updates from James Morris: "A mixture of bug fixes, code cleanup, and continues to close IMA-measurement, IMA-appraisal, and IMA-audit gaps. Also note the addition of a new cred_getsecid LSM hook by Matthew Garrett: For IMA purposes, we want to be able to obtain the prepared secid in the bprm structure before the credentials are committed. Add a cred_getsecid hook that makes this possible. which is used by a new CREDS_CHECK target in IMA: In ima_bprm_check(), check with both the existing process credentials and the credentials that will be committed when the new process is started. f2fs-for-4.17-rc1
In this round, we've mainly focused on performance tuning and critical bug fixes occurred in low-end devices. Sheng Yong introduced lost_found feature to keep missing files during recovery instead of thrashing them. We're preparing coming fsverity implementation. And, we've got more features to communicate with users for better performance. In low-end devices, some memory-related issues were fixed, and subtle race condtions and corner cases were addressed as well. Enhancement: - large nat bitmaps for more free node ids - add three block allocation policies to pass down write hints given by user - expose extension list to user and introduce hot file extension - tune small devices seamlessly for low-end devices - set readdir_ra by default - give more resources under gc_urgent mode regarding to discard and cleaning - introduce fsync_mode to enforce posix or not - nowait aio support - add lost_found feature to keep dangling inodes - reserve bits for future fsverity feature - add test_dummy_encryption for FBE Bug fix: - don't use highmem for dentry pages - align memory boundary for bitops - truncate preallocated blocks in write errors - guarantee i_times on fsync call - clear CP_TRIMMED_FLAG correctly - prevent node chain loop during recovery - avoid data race between atomic write and background cleaning - avoid unnecessary selinux violation warnings on resgid option - GFP_NOFS to avoid deadlock in quota and read paths - fix f2fs_skip_inode_update to allow i_size recovery In addition to them, there are several minor bug fixes and clean-ups. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEE00UqedjCtOrGVvQiQBSofoJIUNIFAlrFmaYACgkQQBSofoJI UNKaSw//RZraDQmODfDieyjGAd8y1NgGDju1jgk62QJUqe/G3jIKN/A39HU3I2Ak jLIotwZ8j1yNBUGbXMXZTY+6sRkQGJrcgawgvZ0gwWSeqTAiCi+AbqnNysTv8pDp Rh1iMCGvNKv1/vbFizJumcK2haH/KzX9Z7uDBjji4N7tTT1nUGVz+vmUO/qS6Xi0 44BrEN1rhaF71JNaiQE0WuEc0GY2IU0W7l4IWirJeNqsK0BTVPnq1vxc8SsQQRmn Wdr4rUw2SRAynGMCQZlMW/sG0sxV0WMAE0xVE8WCFMXzHx2GNVakUgXMTZ2DgUKT JlgdsB5NQYrZJqSEAdNq3WclJpznlhOLHp8hjITxSRxhd2j7GH7xujUoGSsNiXDr n2s3Xg6wWMx+D4vsfXYJuZQKYqZUcBlPRgXa74/aXnsxRTLaormJtFNWkLqELIzR Qaw7XIhZoOyKkH7CPSWk0eYyQVi13l9QV70iyBfY4bcN2aLZLxTX2Axwws3ESOCt Nf0jIe3L4k7MSdoMR0K51rhCMlPWDuddnQSs9Vsw3w8U5pVph+BKG5RBUI9N4hPv U0gKJfj8LIaxhHTfborEHf+hjq/0sN0TBPFBsAtqvv1LBXkMeWEeo0wXtxSJC89b 3xBRQ0p4Nox4fEHs36AZID2OMOV8iamiEqzP/o9ja0sMzEjnYmo= =Ligi -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'f2fs-for-4.17' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jaegeuk/f2fs Pull f2fs update from Jaegeuk Kim: "In this round, we've mainly focused on performance tuning and critical bug fixes occurred in low-end devices. Staging/IIO patches for 4.17-rc1
Here is the big set of Staging/IIO driver patches for 4.17-rc1. It is a lot, over 500 changes, but not huge by previous kernel release standards. We deleted more lines than we added again (27k added vs. 91k remvoed), thanks to finally being able to delete the IRDA drivers and networking code. We also deleted the ccree crypto driver, but that's coming back in through the crypto tree to you, in a much cleaned-up form. Added this round is at lot of "mt7621" device support, which is for an embedded device that Neil Brown cares about, and of course a handful of new IIO drivers as well. And finally, the fsl-mc core code moved out of the staging tree to the "real" part of the kernel, which is nice to see happen as well. Full details are in the shortlog, which has all of the tiny cleanup patches described. All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues. Mostly small changes, as usual.
This does add an IPMI BMC server-side driver, to allow a Linux system to act as an IPMI controller. That's the biggest change, but it is just a new driver that is fairly narrow in use. The other largish change is removing ACPI SPMI probe support, which should have never really been there in the beginning. -corey -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAABAgAGBQJaw8XOAAoJEGHzjJCRm/+BeoQQAIBokkgHSAl6y8jlmmTmu9fV gXl0GT97yAMyuTUaTvkWLdWm8GWCrSSUTAqjbcTzMWya87KRODsUg9eTO58fFw8m ODbD7ruTGmBQggJEqDaS5NHAiU22ce2aDn5I0WjJkH8vaJ3nQSa6nEgBOzXDMC1A OmaVQE6BnEAIA+nmlzbUgcuduB3iv7gTua2gy7MQSG/5jBPIAOQtpsgHtCZMA+Dt bk9LqDpOa6dZry7eIn5/u62YRVLX+iVO/DoxCgZyOxVfgnV/ykKT3PvWO9vviBQV QXXLAzLO3niDQ/ZwwpqrUWjR7oGWDKe4ntMATfnxCP7LQNrSF7LnAxz8oCcwuBxq ELrwME8LEQmMYGFg3SYcLA0k1teTP2UVWURUH6zBTft2xzo8bJN0JU7J52tTL4xa yC7JgTVeq8uQB8gkYKf43LGHlXlaxFQsnRKeCJ2JG+1yD+sOmxbZshfiLroMZ5DM nPKOuMdoqPCd7JVUMs/c0IgcDHd6vtkiDRA0jh38JdIdp9B/i+dFYs61bSzrkBD9 tXUua56QTVl5WEWy2lGX+ZH/JUJbQnTxjiaW99Q9Soml6qXqIVjR5ZvLtls0PeW0 ZytaQEGuV8758YEmOGk/1pUys/oC37mDlyjTpONGYzvAyzJqU258/YU9eJMkcQ/G FFEEkWILLuGgtFnyxwN/ =p993 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'for-linus-4.17' of git://github.com/cminyard/linux-ipmi Pull IPMI updates from Corey Minyard: "Mostly small changes, as usual. IMA: Support using new creds in appraisal policy
The existing BPRM_CHECK functionality in IMA validates against the credentials of the existing process, not any new credentials that the child process may transition to. Add an additional CREDS_CHECK target and refactor IMA to pass the appropriate creds structure. In ima_bprm_check(), check with both the existing process credentials and the credentials that will be committed when the new process is started. This will not change behaviour unless the system policy is extended to include CREDS_CHECK targets - BPRM_CHECK will continue to check the same credentials that it did previously. After this patch, an IMA policy rule along the lines of: measure func=CREDS_CHECK subj_type=unconfined_t will trigger if a process is executed and runs as unconfined_t, ignoring the context of the parent process. This is in contrast to: measure func=BPRM_CHECK subj_type=unconfined_t which will trigger if the process that calls exec() is already executing in unconfined_t, ignoring the context that the child process executes into. usb: common: Small class for USB role switches
USB role switch is a device that can be used to choose the data role for USB connector. With dual-role capable USB controllers, the controller itself will be the switch, but on some platforms the USB host and device controllers are separate IPs and there is a mux between them and the connector. On those platforms the mux driver will need to register the switch. With USB Type-C connectors, the host-to-device relationship is negotiated over the Configuration Channel (CC). That means the USB Type-C drivers need to be in control of the role switch. The class provides a simple API for the USB Type-C drivers for the control. For other types of USB connectors (mainly microAB) the class provides user space control via sysfs attribute file that can be used to request role swapping from the switch. usb: core: introduce per-port over-current counters
For some userspace applications information on the number of over-current conditions at specific USB hub ports is relevant. In our case we have a series of USB hardware (using the cp210x driver) which communicates using a proprietary protocol. These devices sometimes trigger an over-current situation on some hubs. In case of such an over-current situation the USB devices offer an interface for reducing the max used power. As these conditions are quite rare and imply performance reductions of the device we don't want to reduce the max power always. Therefore give user-space applications the possibility to react adequately by introducing an over_current_counter in the usb port struct which is exported via sysfs. scsi: ufs: Add support for Auto-Hibernate Idle Timer
UFS host controllers may support an autonomous power management feature called the Auto-Hibernate Idle Timer. The timer is set to the number of microseconds of idle time before the UFS host controller will autonomously put the link into Hibernate state. That will save power at the expense of increased latency. Any access to the host controller interface registers will automatically put the link out of Hibernate state. So once configured, the feature is transparent to the driver. Expose the Auto-Hibernate Idle Timer value via SysFS to allow users to choose between power efficiency or lower latency. Set a default value of 150 ms. Signed-off-by: Adrian Hunter <adrian.hunter@intel.com> Acked-by: Stanislav Nijnikov <stanislav.nijnikov@wdc.com> Signed-off-by: Martin K. ACPI: Add Time and Alarm Device (TAD) driver
Introduce a driver for the ACPI Time and Alarm Device (TAD) based on Section 9.18 of ACPI 6.2. This driver only supports the system wakeup capabilities of the TAD which are mandatory. Support for the RTC capabilities of the TAD will be added to it in the future. This driver is entirely sysfs-based. It provides attributes (under the TAD platform device) to allow user space to manage the AC and DC wakeup timers of the TAD: set and read their values, set and check their expire timer wake policies, check and clear their status and check the capabilities of the TAD reported by AML. The DC timer attributes are only present if the TAD supports a separate DC alarm timer. The wakeup events handling and power management of the TAD is expected to be taken care of by the ACPI PM domain attached to its platform device. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. fsi: master-gpio: Add external mode
This change introduces an 'external mode' for GPIO-based FSI masters, allowing the clock and data lines to be driven by an external source. For example, external mode is selected by a user when an external debug device is attached to the FSI pins. To do this, we need to set specific states for the trans, mux and enable GPIOs, and prevent access to clk & data from the FSI core code (by returning EBUSY). External mode is controlled by a sysfs attribute, so add the relevant information to Documentation/ABI/ Signed-off-by: Jeremy Kerr <jk@ozlabs.org> Reviewed-by: Joel Stanley <joel@jms.id.au> Signed-off-by: Joel Stanley <joel@jms.id.au> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> |

thunderbolt: Add support for preboot ACL
Preboot ACL is a mechanism that allows connecting Thunderbolt devices boot time in more secure way than the legacy Thunderbolt boot support. As with the legacy boot option, this also needs to be enabled from the BIOS before booting is allowed. Difference to the legacy mode is that the userspace software explicitly adds device UUIDs by sending a special message to the ICM firmware. Only the devices listed in the boot ACL are connected automatically during the boot. This works in both "user" and "secure" security levels. We implement this in Linux by exposing a new sysfs attribute (boot_acl) below each Thunderbolt domain. The userspace software can then update the full list as needed. thunderbolt: Add 'boot' attribute for devices
In various cases, Thunderbolt device can be connected by ICM on boot without waiting for approval from user. Most cases are related to OEM-specific BIOS configurations. This information is interesting for user-space as if the device isn't in SW ACL, it may create a friction in the user experience where the device is automatically authorized if it's connected on boot but requires an explicit user action if connected after OS is up. User-space can use this information to suggest adding the device to SW ACL for auto-authorization on later connections. rtc: nvmem: allow registering the nvmem device before the rtc
Switch the parent of the nvmem device to the parent of the rtc device so it can be registered before the RTC. This is a small change in the ABI as the nvmem moves out of the /sys/class/rtc/rtcX folder to be under the parent device folder (that is where the previous nvram files where registered). However, it is still available under its correct location, /sys/bus/nvmem/devices which is the one that should be used by userspace applications. The other benefit is that the nvmem device can stay registered even if the rtc registration fails. Or it is possible to not register the rtc if the nvmem registration failed. Finally, it makes a lot of sense for devices that actually have different i2c or spi addresses for the RTC and the EEPROM. That is basically how it would end up when using MFD or even completely separate devices. Signed-off-by: Alexandre Belloni <alexandre.belloni@bootlin.com> |
