FUJITA Tomonori f088025729 sparc64: add the segment boundary checking to IOMMUs while merging SG entries
Some IOMMUs allocate memory areas spanning LLD's segment boundary limit. It
forces low level drivers to have a workaround to adjust scatter lists that the
IOMMU builds. We are in the process of making all the IOMMUs respect the
segment boundary limits to remove such work around in LLDs.

SPARC64 IOMMUs were rewritten to use the IOMMU helper functions and the commit
89c94f2f70 made the IOMMUs not allocate memory
areas spanning the segment boundary limit.

However, SPARC64 IOMMUs allocate memory areas first then try to merge them
(while some IOMMUs walk through all the sg entries to see how they can be
merged first and allocate memory areas). So SPARC64 IOMMUs also need the
boundary limit checking when they try to merge sg entries.

Sparse still doesn't like the funny cast we make from a scalar to a
"union semun" (which is correct by the C language and in particular
works with the sparc64 calling conventions, but sparse doesn't grok
that yet).

David S. Miller 85a7935335 [SPARC64]: Make save_stack_trace() more efficient.
Doing a 'flushw' every stack trace capture creates so much overhead
that it makes lockdep next to unusable.

We only care about the frame pointer chain and the function caller
program counters, so flush those by hand to the stack frame.

This is significantly more efficient than a 'flushw' because:

1) We only save 16 bytes per active register window to the stack.

2) This doesn't push the entire register window context of the current
   call chain out of the cpu, forcing register window fill traps as we
   return back down.

Note that we can't use 'restore' and 'save' instructions to move
around the register windows because that wouldn't work on Niagara
processors. They optimize 'save' into a new register window by
simply clearing out the registers instead of pulling them in from
the on-chip register window backing store.

Based upon a report by Tom Callaway.

David S. Miller 64658743fd [SPARC64]: Remove most limitations to kernel image size.
Currently kernel images are limited to 8MB in size, and this causes
problems especially when enabling features that take up a lot of
kernel image space such as lockdep.

The code now will align the kernel image size up to 4MB and map that
many locked TLB entries. So, the only practical limitation is the
number of available locked TLB entries which is 16 on Cheetah and 64
on pre-Cheetah sparc64 cpus. Niagara cpus don't actually have hw
locked TLB entry support. Rather, the hypervisor transparently
provides support for "locked" TLB entries since it runs with physical
addressing and does the initial TLB miss processing.

Fully utilizing this change requires some help from SILO, a patch for
which will be submitted to the maintainer. Essentially, SILO will
only currently map up to 8MB for the kernel image and that needs to be
increased.

Note that neither this patch nor the SILO bits will help with network
booting. The openfirmware code will only map up to a certain amount
of kernel image during a network boot and there isn't much we can to
about that other than to implemented a layered network booting
facility. Solaris has this, and calls it "wanboot" and we may
implement something similar at some point.

cpu hotplug so the __cpuinit annotation is the correct choice.
We have the call chain:
dr_cpu_data() => dr_cpu_configure() => mdesc_fill_in_cpu_data()

dr_cpu_data() is used only during early init and for cpu
hotplug. So annotating them all __cpuinit solves the
section mismatch and should be correct.

unpredictable if the second argument is non-constant).

Example code size savings:

   text data bss dec hex	filename

Jan Blunck 4ac9137858 Embed a struct path into struct nameidata instead of nd->{dentry,mnt}
This is the central patch of a cleanup series. In most cases there is no good
reason why someone would want to use a dentry for itself. This series reflects
that fact and embeds a struct path into nameidata.

Together with the other patches of this series
- it enforced the correct order of getting/releasing the reference count on
  <dentry,vfsmount> pairs
- it prepares the VFS for stacking support since it is essential to have a
  struct path in every place where the stack can be traversed
- it reduces the overall code size:

without patch series:
   text data bss dec hex filename
5321639  858418  715768 6895825  6938d1 vmlinux

with patch series:
   text data bss dec hex filename
5320026  858418  715768 6894212  693284 vmlinux

This patch:

Switch from nd->{dentry,mnt} to nd->path.{dentry,mnt} everywhere.

David Howells 7fa3031500 aout: suppress A.OUT library support if !CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_AOUT
Suppress A.OUT library support if CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_AOUT is not set.

Not all architectures support the A.OUT binfmt, so the ELF binfmt should not
be permitted to go looking for A.OUT libraries to load in such a case. Not
only that, but under such conditions A.OUT core dumps are not produced either.

To make this work, this patch also does the following:

 (1) Makes the existence of the contents of linux/a.out.h contingent on
     CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_AOUT.

 (2) Renames dump_thread() to aout_dump_thread() as it's only called by A.OUT
     core dumping code.

 (3) Moves aout_dump_thread() into asm/a.out-core.h and makes it inline. This
     is then included only where needed. This means that this bit of arch
     code will be stored in the appropriate A.OUT binfmt module rather than
     the core kernel.

 (4) Drops A.OUT support for Blackfin (according to Mike Frysinger it's not
     needed) and FRV.

This patch depends on the previous patch to move STACK_TOP[_MAX] out of
asm/a.out.h and into asm/processor.h as they're required whether or not A.OUT
format is available.

Bernhard Walle 72a7fe3967 Introduce flags for reserve_bootmem()
This patchset adds a flags variable to reserve_bootmem() and uses the
BOOTMEM_EXCLUSIVE flag in crashkernel reservation code to detect collisions
between crashkernel area and already used memory.

This patch:

Change the reserve_bootmem() function to accept a new flag BOOTMEM_EXCLUSIVE.
If that flag is set, the function returns with -EBUSY if the memory already
has been reserved in the past. This is to avoid conflicts.

Because that code runs before SMP initialisation, there's no race condition
inside reserve_bootmem_core().

Eric Dumazet 9cfe015aa4 get rid of NR_OPEN and introduce a sysctl_nr_open
NR_OPEN (historically set to 1024*1024) actually forbids processes to open
more than 1024*1024 handles.

Unfortunatly some production servers hit the not so 'ridiculously high
value' of 1024*1024 file descriptors per process.

Changing NR_OPEN is not considered safe because of vmalloc space potential
exhaust.

This patch introduces a new sysctl (/proc/sys/fs/nr_open) wich defaults to
1024*1024, so that admins can decide to change this limit if their workload
needs it.

because whilst it added the segment limiting code to the first pass of

As a result the two passes disagree where the segment boundaries
should be, resulting in OOPSes, DMA corruption, and corrupted

Davide Libenzi 4d672e7ac7 timerfd: new timerfd API
This is the new timerfd API as it is implemented by the following patch:

int timerfd_create(int clockid, int flags);
int timerfd_settime(int ufd, int flags,
		    const struct itimerspec *utmr,
		    struct itimerspec *otmr);
int timerfd_gettime(int ufd, struct itimerspec *otmr);

The timerfd_create() API creates an un-programmed timerfd fd. The "clockid"
parameter can be either CLOCK_MONOTONIC or CLOCK_REALTIME.

The timerfd_settime() API give new settings by the timerfd fd, by optionally
retrieving the previous expiration time (in case the "otmr" parameter is not
NULL).

The time value specified in "utmr" is absolute, if the TFD_TIMER_ABSTIME bit
is set in the "flags" parameter. Otherwise it's a relative time.

The timerfd_gettime() API returns the next expiration time of the timer, or
{0, 0} if the timerfd has not been set yet.

Mathieu Desnoyers 3f550096de Add HAVE_KPROBES
Linus:

On the per-architecture side, I do think it would be better to *not* have
internal architecture knowledge in a generic file, and as such a line like

        depends on X86_32 || IA64 || PPC || S390 || SPARC64 || X86_64 || AVR32

really shouldn't exist in a file like kernel/Kconfig.instrumentation.

It would be much better to do

        depends on ARCH_SUPPORTS_KPROBES

in that generic file, and then architectures that do support it would just
have a

        bool ARCH_SUPPORTS_KPROBES
                default y

in *their* architecture files. That would seem to be much more logical,
and is readable both for arch maintainers *and* for people who have no
clue - and don't care - about which architecture is supposed to support
which interface...

Changelog:

Actually, I know I gave this as the magic incantation, but now that I see
it, I realize that I should have told you to just use

        config KPROBES_SUPPORT
                def_bool y

instead, which is a bit denser.

We seem to use both kinds of syntax for these things, but this is really
what "def_bool" is there for...

- Use HAVE_KPROBES
- Use a select

- Yet another update :

Nick Piggin 95c354fe9f spinlock: lockbreak cleanup
The break_lock data structure and code for spinlocks is quite nasty.
Not only does it double the size of a spinlock but it changes locking to
a potentially less optimal trylock.

Put all of that under CONFIG_GENERIC_LOCKBREAK, and introduce a
__raw_spin_is_contended that uses the lock data itself to determine whether
there are waiters on the lock, to be used if CONFIG_GENERIC_LOCKBREAK is
not set.

Rename need_lockbreak to spin_needbreak, make it use spin_is_contended to
decouple it from the spinlock implementation, and make it typesafe (rwlocks
do not have any need_lockbreak sites -- why do they even get bloated up
with that break_lock then?).

David S. Miller 8f361453d8 [SPARC64]: Fix two kernel linear mapping setup bugs.

Since we setup the 256M/4M bitmap table after taking over the trap
table, it's possible for some 4M mapping to get loaded in the TLB

This can cause illegal TLB multiple-match conditions. Fix this by
setting up the bitmap before we take over the trap table.

However, what you did for avr32 seems more on the right track to me: make

Pavel Emelyanov b488893a39 pid namespaces: changes to show virtual ids to user
This is the largest patch in the set. Make all (I hope) the places where
the pid is shown to or get from user operate on the virtual pids.

The idea is:
 - all in-kernel data structures must store either struct pid itself
   or the pid's global nr, obtained with pid_nr() call;
 - when seeking the task from kernel code with the stored id one
   should use find_task_by_pid() call that works with global pids;
 - when showing pid's numerical value to the user the virtual one
   should be used, but however when one shows task's pid outside this
   task's namespace the global one is to be used;
 - when getting the pid from userspace one need to consider this as
   the virtual one and use appropriate task/pid-searching functions.

Pavel Emelianov a47afb0f9d pid namespaces: round up the API
The set of functions process_session, task_session, process_group and
task_pgrp is confusing, as the names can be mixed with each other when looking
at the code for a long time.

The proposals are to
* equip the functions that return the integer with _nr suffix to
  represent that fact,
* and to make all functions work with task (not process) by making
  the common prefix of the same name.

For monotony the routines signal_session() and set_signal_session() are
replaced with task_session_nr() and set_task_session(), especially since they
are only used with the explicit task->signal dereference.

Neil Horman 7dc0b22e3c core_pattern: ignore RLIMIT_CORE if core_pattern is a pipe
For some time /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern has been able to set its output
destination as a pipe, allowing a user space helper to receive and
intellegently process a core. This infrastructure however has some
shortcommings which can be enhanced. Specifically:

1) The coredump code in the kernel should ignore RLIMIT_CORE limitation
   when core_pattern is a pipe, since file system resources are not being
   consumed in this case, unless the user application wishes to save the core,
   at which point the app is restricted by usual file system limits and
   restrictions.

2) The core_pattern code should be able to parse and pass options to the
   user space helper as an argv array. The real core limit of the uid of the
   crashing proces should also be passable to the user space helper (since it
   is overridden to zero when called).

3) Some miscellaneous bugs need to be cleaned up (specifically the
   recognition of a recursive core dump, should the user mode helper itself
   crash. Also, the core dump code in the kernel should not wait for the user
   mode helper to exit, since the same context is responsible for writing to
   the pipe, and a read of the pipe by the user mode helper will result in a
   deadlock.

This patch:

Remove the check of RLIMIT_CORE if core_pattern is a pipe. In the event that
core_pattern is a pipe, the entire core will be fed to the user mode helper.

 - For !CONFIG_MEMORY_HOTREMOVE, add generic no-op remove_memory(),

 - removed remove_pages() only used in powerpc.
 - removed no-op remove_memory() in i386, sh, sparc64, x86_64.

 - only powerpc returns -ENOSYS at memory hot remove(no-op). changes it

Will Schmidt dcca2bde4f During VM oom condition, kill all threads in process group
We have had complaints where a threaded application is left in a bad state
after one of it's threads is killed when we hit a VM: out_of_memory
condition.

Killing just one of the process threads can leave the application in a bad
state, whereas killing the entire process group would allow for the
application to restart, or be otherwise handled, and makes it very obvious
that something has gone wrong.

This change allows the entire process group to be taken down, rather
than just the one thread.

David S. Miller 771823007f [SPARC64]: Kill ugly __bucket() macro.
All the users go through virt_irq_to_bucket() and essentially
want to go from a virt_irq to an INO, but we have a way
to do that already via virt_to_real_irq_table[].dev_ino.

This also allows us to kill both virt_to_real_irq() and
virt_irq_to_bucket().

David S. Miller b80e699812 [SPARC64]: Use sun4v VIRQ interfaces as intended.
We were simply concatenating the devhandle and devino and using that
as the cookie, which defeats the entire purpose of the VIRQ hypervisor
interfaces.

Now that we use physical addresses for the INO buckets, we can
allocate them dynamically for VIRQs and encode the cookies as
~__pa(bucket). This allows us to test for and decode the cookie with
a simple:

	brlz	$reg1, 1f
	 xnor	$reg1, %g0, $reg2

sequence.

This works because bit 64 is never set in traditional
INO vectors, and it is also never set in a physical
address. So xnor'ing the physical address of the bucket
always gives us a negative number, and thus a unique
condition we can test cheaply.

Inspired by ideas from Greg Onufer.

Currently we chain IVEC entries using 32-bit "pointers"
because we know that the ivector_table is in the main
kernel image, thus below 4GB.

This uses proper 64-bit pointers instead.

Whilst this bloats up the kernel image size, this sets
the infrastructure necessary to significantly shrink the
kernel size by using physical addresses and dynamically
allocating the ivector table.

David S. Miller 759f89e03c [SPARC64]: Consolidate MSI support code.
This also makes us use the MSI queues correctly.

Each MSI queue is serviced by a normal sun4u/sun4v INO interrupt
handler. This handler runs the MSI queue and dispatches the
virtual interrupts indicated by arriving MSIs in that MSI queue.

All of the common logic is placed in pci_msi.c, with callbacks to
handle the PCI controller specific aspects of the operations.

This common infrastructure will make it much easier to add MSG
support.

Eric W. Biederman 881d966b48 [NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network
namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a
network namespace variable, and then it picks up
a few associated variables. The functions:
dev_getbyhwaddr
dev_getfirsthwbytype
dev_get_by_flags
dev_get_by_name
__dev_get_by_name
dev_get_by_index
__dev_get_by_index
dev_ioctl
dev_ethtool
dev_load
wireless_process_ioctl

were modified to take a network namespace argument, and
deal with it.

vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their
hooks will receive a network namespace argument.

So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was
affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle
multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was
simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network
namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network
stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces.

For now the ifindex generator is left global.

Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else
we will have corner case problems with migration when
we get that far.

At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack
that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making
the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until
the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when
you change namespaces, and the like.

David S. Miller 27097ef9ff [SPARC64]: Temporary workaround for PCI-E slot on T1000.
The PCI-E slot on T1000 connects directly to the Fire PCI chip with no
intervening bridges visible in the OBP tree.

Unfortunately the bus numbering of the device in that slot is
different (2) from the PCI host controller (0), and thus the
pci_bus_{read,write}_config_*() calls don't work out.

Complicating things further the Fire PCI controller has no config
space it responds to either.

For now treat this case specially so that devices in the slot work.

Longer term we need to perhaps cons up a dummy bridge between the Fire
and the PCI-E slot so that the bus hierarchy is complete inside of the
kernel and thus the bus numbering all works out right.

David S. Miller 25e5566ed3 [SPARC64]: Fix missing load-twin usage in Niagara-1 memcpy.
For the case where the source is not aligned modulo 8
we don't use load-twins to suck the data in and this
kills performance since normal loads allocate in the
L1 cache (unlike load-twin) and thus big memcpys swipe
the entire L1 D-cache.

We need to allocate a register window to implement this
properly, but that actually simplifies a lot of things
