Marc Zyngier b8b9987ffd ARM: 7320/1: Fix proc_info table alignment
With an admittedly exotic choice of configuration options
(CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE, THUMB2, some other size-minimizing ones)
and compiler, the proc_info table can end up being misaligned,
and the kernel being unbootable (Error: unrecognized/unsupported
processor variant).

Forcing the alignement to 4 bytes in the linker script fixes the
issue.

Marc Zyngier 6905a65879 ARM: Make the sched_clock framework mandatory
All sched_clock() providers have been converted to the sched_clock
framework, which also provides a jiffy based implementation for
the platforms that do not provide a counter.

It is now possible to make the sched_clock framework mandatory,
effectively preventing new platforms to add new sched_clock()
functions, which would be detrimental to the single zImage work.

Commit 89d6c0b5 ("perf, arch: Add generic NODE cache events") added
empty NODE event definitions for the ARM PMU implementations. This was
merged along with Cortex-A5 and Cortex-A15 PMU support, so they missed
out on the original patch.

This patch adds the empty definitions to Cortex-A5 and Cortex-A15.

Will Deacon 8130b9d7b9 ARM: 7308/1: vfp: flush thread hwstate before copying ptrace registers
If we are context switched whilst copying into a thread's
vfp_hard_struct then the partial copy may be corrupted by the VFP
context switching code (see "ARM: vfp: flush thread hwstate before
restoring context from sigframe").

This patch updates the ptrace VFP set code so that the thread state is
flushed before the copy, therefore disabling VFP and preventing
corruption from occurring.

Dave Martin 247f4993a5 ARM: 7307/1: vfp: fix ptrace regset modification race
In a preemptible kernel, vfp_set() can be preempted, causing the
hardware VFP context to be switched while the thread vfp state is
being read and modified. This leads to a race condition which can
cause the thread vfp state to become corrupted if lazy VFP context
save occurs due to preemption in between the time thread->vfpstate
is read and the time the modified state is written back.

This may occur if preemption occurs during the execution of a
ptrace() call which modifies the VFP register state of a thread.
Such instances should be very rare in most realistic scenarios --
none has been reported, so far as I am aware. Only uniprocessor
systems should be affected, since VFP context save is not currently
lazy in SMP kernels.

The problem was introduced by my earlier patch migrating to use
regsets to implement ptrace.

This patch does a vfp_sync_hwstate() before reading
thread->vfpstate, to make sure that the thread's VFP state is not
live in the hardware registers while the registers are modified.

Thanks to Will Deacon for spotting this.

Will Deacon 2af276dfb1 ARM: 7306/1: vfp: flush thread hwstate before restoring context from sigframe
Following execution of a signal handler, we currently restore the VFP
context from the ucontext in the signal frame. This involves copying
from the user stack into the current thread's vfp_hard_struct and then
flushing the new data out to the hardware registers.

This is problematic when using a preemptible kernel because we could be
context switched whilst updating the vfp_hard_struct. If the current
thread has made use of VFP since the last context switch, the VFP
notifier will copy from the hardware registers into the vfp_hard_struct,
overwriting any data that had been partially copied by the signal code.

Disabling preemption across copy_from_user calls is a terrible idea, so
instead we move the VFP thread flush *before* we update the
vfp_hard_struct. Since the flushing is performed lazily, this has the
effect of disabling VFP and clearing the CPU's VFP state pointer,
therefore preventing the thread from being updated with stale data on
the next context switch.

Rabin Vincent d68133b5a8 ARM: 7299/1: ftrace: clear zero bit in reported IPs for Thumb-2
The dynamic ftrace ops startup test currently fails on Thumb-2 kernels:

 Testing tracer function: PASSED
 Testing dynamic ftrace: PASSED
 Testing dynamic ftrace ops #1: (0 0 0 0 0) FAILED!

This is because while the addresses in the mcount records do not have
the zero bit set, the IP reported by the mcount call does have it set
(because it is copied from the LR). This mismatch causes the ops
filtering in ftrace_ops_list_func() to not call the relevant tracers.

Fix this by clearing the zero bit before adjusting the LR for the mcount
instruction size. Also, combine the mov+sub into a single sub
instruction.

Russell King 94e5a85b3b ARM: earlier initialization of vectors page
Initialize the contents of the vectors page immediately after we
allocate the page, but before we map it. This avoids any possible
aliases with other mappings which may need to be flushed after the
page has been mapped irrespective of the cache type.

We follow this later with a flush_cache_all() after all static memory
mappings have been initialized, which ensures that this is safe from
any cache effects.

Marc Zyngier c214455f32 ARM: 7297/1: smp_twd: make sure timer is stopped before registering it
On secondary CPUs, the Timer Control Register is not reset
to a sane value before the timer is registered, and the TRM
doesn't seem to indicate any reset value either. In some cases,
the kernel will take an interrupt too early, depending on what
junk was present in the registers at reset time.

The fix is to set the Timer Control Register to 0 before
registering the clock_event_device and enabling the interrupt.

It turns out that the logical CPU mapping is useful even when !CONFIG_SMP
for manipulation of devices like interrupt and power controllers when
running a UP kernel on a CPU other than 0. This can happen when kexecing
a UP image from an SMP kernel.

In the future, multi-cluster systems running AMP configurations will
require something similar for mapping cluster IDs, so it makes sense to
decouple this logic in preparation for this support.

The exception fixup table is currently aligned to a 32-byte boundary.
Whilst this won't cause any problems, the exception_table_entry
structures contain only a pair of unsigned longs, so 4-byte alignment
is all that is required. If the table was walked from start to end,
cacheline alignment may bring some performance benefits, but since a
binary search is used, the access pattern is random and will not benefit
from a stricter alignment.

Nicolas Pitre 4fa20439a8 ARM: clean up idle handlers
Let's factor out the need_resched() check instead of having it duplicated
in every pm_idle implementations to avoid inconsistencies (omap2_pm_idle
is missing it already).

The forceful re-enablement of IRQs after pm_idle has returned can go.
The warning certainly doesn't trigger for existing users.

To get rid of the pm_idle calling convention oddity, let's introduce
arm_pm_idle() allowing for the local_irq_enable() to be factored out
from SOC specific implementations. The default pm_idle function becomes
a wrapper for arm_pm_idle and it takes care of enabling IRQs closer to
where they are initially disabled.

And finally move the comment explaining the reason for that turning off
of IRQs to a more proper location.

Nathaniel Husted 29ef73b7a8 Kernel: Audit Support For The ARM Platform
This patch provides functionality to audit system call events on the
ARM platform. The implementation was based off the structure of the
MIPS platform and information in this
(http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/arm/2009-October/000382.html)
mailing list thread. The required audit_syscall_exit and
audit_syscall_entry checks were added to ptrace using the standard
registers for system call values (r0 through r3). A thread information
flag was added for auditing (TIF_SYSCALL_AUDIT) and a meta-flag was
added (_TIF_SYSCALL_WORK) to simplify modifications to the syscall
entry/exit. Now, if either the TRACE flag is set or the AUDIT flag is
set, the syscall_trace function will be executed. The prober changes
were made to Kconfig to allow CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL to be enabled.

Due to platform availability limitations, this patch was only tested
on the Android platform running the modified "android-goldfish-2.6.29"
kernel. A test compile was performed using Code Sourcery's
cross-compilation toolset and the current linux-3.0 stable kernel. The
changes compile without error. I'm hoping, due to the simple modifications,
the patch is "obviously correct".

Myron Stowe 168c8619fd PCI: ARM: convert pcibios_set_master() to a non-inlined function
This patch converts ARM's architecture-specific inlined
'pcibios_set_master()' routine to a non-inlined function. This will
allow follow on patches to create a generic 'pcibios_set_master()'
function using the '__weak' attribute which can be used by all
architectures as a default which, if necessary, can then be over-
ridden by architecture-specific code.

Converting 'pci_bios_set_master()' to a non-inlined function will allow
ARM's 'pcibios_set_master()' implementation to remain architecture-
specific after the generic version is introduced and thus, not change
current behavior.

Note that ARM also has a non-inlined 'pcibios_set_master()' that is
used if CONFIG_PCI_HOST_ITE8152 is defined. This patch does not
change any behavior here either.

No functional change.

This break-out from Colin Cross' cpufreq-aware TWD patch

the cpu clock. A cpufreq transtion notifier will be registered
only if the platform has supplied a specified clock to the TWD.

Marc Zyngier 2f0778afac ARM: 7205/2: sched_clock: allow sched_clock to be selected at runtime
sched_clock() is yet another blocker on the road to the single
image. This patch implements an idea by Russell King:

http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-omap/msg49561.html

Instead of asking the platform to implement both sched_clock()
itself and the rollover callback, simply register a read()
function, and let the ARM code care about sched_clock() itself,
the conversion to ns and the rollover. sched_clock() uses
this read() function as an indirection to the platform code.
If the platform doesn't provide a read(), the code falls back
to the jiffy counter (just like the default sched_clock).

This allow some simplifications and possibly some footprint gain
when multiple platforms are compiled in. Among the drawbacks,
the removal of the *_fixed_sched_clock optimization which could
negatively impact some platforms (sa1100, tegra, versatile
and omap).

Tested on 11MPCore, OMAP4 and Tegra.

1: Certain processors implementing ARMv7-A can (legally) take an

2: Opcodes with all flags set (condition code = 0xf) have been reused

Frederic Weisbecker 2bbb6817c0 nohz: Allow rcu extended quiescent state handling seperately from tick stop
It is assumed that rcu won't be used once we switch to tickless
mode and until we restart the tick. However this is not always
true, as in x86-64 where we dereference the idle notifiers after
the tick is stopped.

To prepare for fixing this, add two new APIs:
tick_nohz_idle_enter_norcu() and tick_nohz_idle_exit_norcu().

If no use of RCU is made in the idle loop between
tick_nohz_enter_idle() and tick_nohz_exit_idle() calls, the arch
must instead call the new *_norcu() version such that the arch doesn't
need to call rcu_idle_enter() and rcu_idle_exit().

Otherwise the arch must call tick_nohz_enter_idle() and
tick_nohz_exit_idle() and also call explicitly:

- rcu_idle_enter() after its last use of RCU before the CPU is put
to sleep.
- rcu_idle_exit() before the first use of RCU after the CPU is woken
up.

Frederic Weisbecker 280f06774a nohz: Separate out irq exit and idle loop dyntick logic
The tick_nohz_stop_sched_tick() function, which tries to delay
the next timer tick as long as possible, can be called from two
places:

- From the idle loop to start the dytick idle mode
- From interrupt exit if we have interrupted the dyntick
idle mode, so that we reprogram the next tick event in
case the irq changed some internal state that requires this
action.

There are only few minor differences between both that
are handled by that function, driven by the ts->inidle
cpu variable and the inidle parameter. The whole guarantees
that we only update the dyntick mode on irq exit if we actually
interrupted the dyntick idle mode, and that we enter in RCU extended
quiescent state from idle loop entry only.

Split this function into:

- tick_nohz_idle_enter(), which sets ts->inidle to 1, enters
dynticks idle mode unconditionally if it can, and enters into RCU
extended quiescent state.

- tick_nohz_irq_exit() which only updates the dynticks idle mode
when ts->inidle is set (ie: if tick_nohz_idle_enter() has been called).

To maintain symmetry, tick_nohz_restart_sched_tick() has been renamed
into tick_nohz_idle_exit().

This simplifies the code and micro-optimize the irq exit path (no need
for local_irq_save there). This also prepares for the split between
dynticks and rcu extended quiescent state logics. We'll need this split to
further fix illegal uses of RCU in extended quiescent states in the idle
loop.

However, the proper fix isn't adding back the asm inclusion. memblock

* In microblaze, sh, powerpc, sparc and openrisc, asm/memblock.h is

Will Deacon 4e8ee7de22 ARM: SMP: use idmap_pgd for mapping MMU enable during secondary booting
The ARM SMP booting code allocates a temporary set of page tables
containing an identity mapping of the kernel image and provides this
to secondary CPUs for initial booting.

In reality, we only need to include the __turn_mmu_on function in the
identity mapping since the rest of the kernel is executing from virtual
addresses after this point.

This patch adds __turn_mmu_on to the .idmap.text section, allowing the
SMP booting code to use the idmap_pgd directly and not have to populate
its own set of page table.

As a result of this patch, we can make the identity_mapping_add function
static (since it is only used within mm/idmap.c) and also remove the
identity_mapping_del function. The identity map population is moved to
an early initcall so that it is setup in time for secondary CPU bringup.

When disabling and re-enabling the MMU, it is necessary to take out an
identity mapping for the code that manipulates the SCTLR in order to
avoid it disappearing from under our feet. This is useful when soft
rebooting and returning from CPU suspend.

This patch allocates a set of page tables during boot and populates them
with an identity mapping for the .idmap.text section. This means that
users of the identity map do not need to manage their own pgd and can
instead annotate their functions with __idmap or, in the case of assembly

Uwe Kleine-König de66a97901 ARM: 7187/1: fix unwinding for XIP kernels
The linker places the unwind tables in readonly sections. So when using
an XIP kernel these are located in ROM and cannot be modified.
For that reason the current approach to convert the relative offsets in
the unwind index to absolute addresses early in the boot process doesn't
work with XIP.

The offsets in the unwind index section are signed 31 bit numbers and
the structs are sorted by this offset. So it first has offsets between
0x40000000 and 0x7fffffff (i.e. the negative offsets) and then offsets
between 0x00000000 and 0x3fffffff. When seperating these two blocks the
numbers are sorted even when interpreting the offsets as unsigned longs.

So determine the first non-negative entry once and track that using the
new origin pointer. The actual bisection can then use a plain unsigned
long comparison. The only thing that makes the new bisection more
complicated is that the offsets are relative to their position in the
index section, so the key to search needs to be adapted accordingly in
each step.

Moreover several consts are added to catch future writes and rename the
member "addr" of struct unwind_idx to "addr_offset" to better match the
new semantic. (This has the additional benefit of breaking eventual
users at compile time to make them aware of the change.)

In my tests the new algorithm was a tad faster than the original and has
the additional upside of not needing the initial conversion and so saves
some boot time and it's possible to unwind even earlier.

The symptoms are that the .init.text section is not loaded as part of the
new kernel image, so when we try to do the SMP/UP fixups we hit a whole sea
of poison left there by the previous kernel.

So my guess is that machine_kexec_prepare *is* too early for preparing the
reboot_code_buffer and, unless anybody has a good reason not to, I'd like to
revert the patch causing these problems.

Thomas Gleinxer eb0474544b ARM: 7133/1: SMP: fix per cpu timer setup before the cpu is marked online
The problem is related to the early enabling of interrupts and the
per cpu timer setup before the cpu is marked online. This doesn't
need to be done in order to call calibrate_delay().

calibrate_delay() monitors jiffies, which are updated from the CPU
which is waiting for the new CPU to set the online bit.

So simply calibrate_delay() can be called on the new CPU just from
the interrupt disabled region and move the local timer setup after
stored the cpu data and before enabling interrupts.

This solves both the cpu_online vs. cpu_active problem and the
affinity setting of the per cpu timers.

PPI handling is a bit of an odd beast. It uses its own low level
handling code and is hardwired to the local timers (hence lacking

Instead, switch the low handling to the normal SPI handling code.
PPIs are handled by the handle_percpu_devid_irq flow.

This also allows the removal of some duplicated code.

Simon Glass 87e040b645 ARM: 7017/1: Use generic BUG() handler
ARM uses its own BUG() handler which makes its output slightly different
from other archtectures.

One of the problems is that the ARM implementation doesn't report the function
with the BUG() in it, but always reports the PC being in __bug(). The generic
implementation doesn't have this problem.

Currently we get something like:

kernel BUG at fs/proc/breakme.c:35!
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000
...
PC is at __bug+0x20/0x2c

With this patch it displays:

kernel BUG at fs/proc/breakme.c:35!
Internal error: Oops - undefined instruction: 0 [#1] PREEMPT SMP
...
PC is at write_breakme+0xd0/0x1b4

This implementation uses an undefined instruction to implement BUG, and sets up
a bug table containing the relevant information. Many versions of gcc do not
support %c properly for ARM (inserting a # when they shouldn't) so we work
around this using distasteful macro magic.

v1: Initial version to replace existing ARM BUG() implementation with something
more similar to other architectures.

v2: Add Thumb support, remove backtrace whitespace output changes. Change to
use macros instead of requiring the asm %d flag to work (thanks to
Dave Martin <dave.martin@linaro.org>)

v3: Remove old BUG() implementation in favor of this one.
Remove the Backtrace: message (will submit this separately).

thanks to Stephen Boyd <sboyd@codeaurora.org> (although since we always
define GENERIC_BUG this might be academic.)

v4: Allow BUGS in modules (these were not reported correctly in v3)
(thanks to Stephen Boyd <sboyd@codeaurora.org> for suggesting that.)

Nicolas Pitre 1b9f95f8ad ARM: prepare for removal of a bunch of <mach/memory.h> files
When the CONFIG_NO_MACH_MEMORY_H symbol is selected by a particular
machine class, the machine specific memory.h include file is no longer
used and can be removed. In that case the equivalent information can
be obtained dynamically at runtime by enabling CONFIG_ARM_PATCH_PHYS_VIRT
or by specifying the physical memory address at kernel configuration time.

If/when all instances of mach/memory.h are removed then this symbol could
be removed.

Russell King 6760b10960 ARM: fix vmlinux.lds.S discarding sections
We are seeing linker errors caused by sections being discarded, despite
the linker script trying to keep them. The result is (eg):

`.exit.text' referenced in section `.alt.smp.init' of drivers/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of drivers/built-in.o
`.exit.text' referenced in section `.alt.smp.init' of net/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of net/built-in.o

This is the relevent part of the linker script (reformatted to make it
clearer):
| SECTIONS
| {
| /*
| * unwind exit sections must be discarded before the rest of the
| * unwind sections get included.
| */
| /DISCARD/ : {
| *(.ARM.exidx.exit.text)
| *(.ARM.extab.exit.text)
| }
| ...
| .exit.text : {
| *(.exit.text)
| *(.memexit.text)
| }
| ...
| /DISCARD/ : {
| *(.exit.text)
| *(.memexit.text)
| *(.exit.data)
| *(.memexit.data)
| *(.memexit.rodata)
| *(.exitcall.exit)
| *(.discard)
| *(.discard.*)
| }
| }

Now, this is what the linker manual says about discarded output sections:

| The special output section name `/DISCARD/' may be used to discard
| input sections. Any input sections which are assigned to an output
| section named `/DISCARD/' are not included in the output file.

No questions, no exceptions. It doesn't say "unless they are listed
before the /DISCARD/ section." Now, this is what asn-generic/vmlinux.lds.S
says:
| /*
| * Default discarded sections.
| *
| * Some archs want to discard exit text/data at runtime rather than
| * link time due to cross-section references such as alt instructions,
| * bug table, eh_frame, etc. DISCARDS must be the last of output
| * section definitions so that such archs put those in earlier section
| * definitions.
| */

And guess what - the list _always_ includes .exit.text etc.

Now, what's actually happening is that the linker is reading the script,
and it finds the first /DISCARD/ output section at the beginning of the
script. It continues reading the script, and finds the 'DISCARD' macro
at the end, which having been postprocessed results in another
/DISCARD/ output section. As the linker already contains the earlier
/DISCARD/ output section, it adds it to that existing section, so it
effectively is placed at the start. This can be seen by using the -M
option to ld:

| Linker script and memory map
|
| 0xc037c080 jiffies = jiffies_64
|
| /DISCARD/
| *(.ARM.exidx.exit.text)
| *(.ARM.extab.exit.text)
| *(.exit.text)
| *(.memexit.text)
| *(.exit.data)
| *(.memexit.data)
| *(.memexit.rodata)
| *(.exitcall.exit)
| *(.discard)
| *(.discard.*)
|
| 0xc0008000 . = 0xc0008000
|
| .head.text 0xc0008000 0x1d0
| 0xc0008000 _text = .
| *(.head.text)
| .head.text 0xc0008000 0x1d0 arch/arm/kernel/head.o
| 0xc0008000 stext
|
| .text 0xc0008200 0x2d78d0
| 0xc0008200 _stext = .
| 0xc0008200 __exception_text_start = .
| *(.exception.text)
| .exception.text
| ...

As you can see, all the discarded sections are grouped together - and
as a result of it being the first output section, they all appear before
any other section.

The result is that not only is the unwind information discarded (as
intended), but also the .exit.text, despite us wanting to have the
.exit.text preserved.

We can't move the unwind information elsewhere, because it'll then be
included even when we do actually discard the .exit.text (and similar)
sections.

So, work around this by avoiding the generic DISCARDS macro, and instead
conditionalize the sections to be discarded ourselves. This avoids the
ambiguity in how the linker assigns input sections to output sections,
making our script less dependent on undocumented linker behaviour.

Currently struct cpu_hw_events stores data on events running on a
PMU associated with a CPU. As this data is general enough to be used
for system PMUs, this name is a misnomer, and may cause confusion when
it is used for system PMUs.

Additionally, 'armpmu' is commonly used as a parameter name for an
instance of struct arm_pmu. The name is also used for a global instance
which represents the CPU's PMU.

As cpu_hw_events is now not tied to CPU PMUs, it is renamed to
pmu_hw_events, with instances of it renamed similarly. As the global
'armpmu' is CPU-specfic, it is renamed to cpu_pmu. This should make it
clearer which code is generic, and which is coupled with the CPU.

Mark Rutland 7b9f72c62e ARM: perf: clean up event group validation
Currently, event group validation compares each event's 'pmu' pointer
against the static 'pmu' pointer. This limits the code to supporting
only 1 PMU.

This patch changes the behaviour to consider an event's group leader's
'pmu' pointer as canonical for validation. This should ease later
generalisation of the code to support multiple PMUs at once.

Mark Rutland 48957155f8 ARM: perf: only register a CPU PMU when present
Currently, an "empty" struct pmu is registered as the CPU PMU,
regardless of whether there is a physical PMU. This burdens the
accessor functions with checks to see whether a PMU is actually
present.

This patch changes initialisation to register a PMU only if there is a
supported PMU present, and removes the checks that this change makes
redundant.

Will Deacon 6f26aa05c9 ARM: hw_breakpoint: add support for multiple watchpoints
ARM debug architecture 7.1 mandates that the DFAR is updated on a
watchpoint debug exception to contain the faulting virtual address
of the memory access. This allows us to determine which watchpoints
have fired and therefore report useful information to userspace.

This patch adds support for using the DFAR in the watchpoint handler,
which allows us to support multiple watchpoints on CPUs implementing
the new debug architecture.

The current hw_breakpoint code on ARM reserves 1 breakpoint for each
watchpoint that is available. Since debug architectures prior to 7.1

Commit 5dfc54e0 ("ARM: GIC: avoid routing interrupts to offline CPUs")
prevents the GIC from setting the affinity of an IRQ to a CPU with
id >= nr_cpu_ids. This was previously abused by perf on some platforms
where more IRQs were registered than possible CPUs.

This patch fixes the problem by using a cpumask_t to keep track of the
active (requested) interrupts in perf. The same effect could be achieved
by limiting the number of IRQs to the number of CPUs, but using a mask
instead will be useful for adding extended CPU hotplug support in the

Will Deacon b0e89590f4 ARM: PMU: move CPU PMU platform device handling and init into perf
Once upon a time, OProfile and Perf fought hard over who could play with
the PMU. To stop all hell from breaking loose, pmu.c offered an internal
reserve/release API and took care of parsing PMU platform data passed in
from board support code.

Now that Perf has ingested OProfile, let's move the platform device
handling into the Perf driver and out of the PMU locking code.
Unfortunately, the lock has to remain to prevent Perf being bitten by
out-of-tree modules such as LTTng, which still claim a right to the PMU
when Perf isn't looking.
