Wenchao Xia 7b4c4781e3 snapshot: distinguish id and name in load_tmp
Since later this function will be used so improve it. The only caller of it
now is qemu-img, and it is not impacted by introduce function
bdrv_snapshot_load_tmp_by_id_or_name() that call bdrv_snapshot_load_tmp()
twice to keep old search logic. bdrv_snapshot_load_tmp_by_id_or_name() return

Fam Zheng 36452f12f8 qemu-img: Fix overwriting 'ret' before using
This patch moves ret assignment after reporting original error.

We were lucky to pass qemu-iotests 048 (qemu-img compare case) but when
I tried to run with TEST_DIR=/tmp (tmpfs), it fails with a "wrong"
mismatch offset. This fixes two bugs.

In the first if branch, setting ret to 1 before using it makes dead code
in the next line: pnum is never added to mismatch offset even if ret was
0.

In the other if branch, currently the output error is always -4:
  strerror(-4) -> Unknown error -4

Added regression test in case 048.

Wenchao Xia a89d89d3e6 snapshot: distinguish id and name in snapshot delete
Snapshot creation actually already distinguish id and name since it take
a structured parameter *sn, but delete can't. Later an accurate delete
is needed in qmp_transaction abort and blockdev-snapshot-delete-sync,
so change its prototype. Also *errp is added to tip error, but return
value is kepted to let caller check what kind of error happens. Existing
caller for it are savevm, delvm and qemu-img, they are not impacted by
introducing a new function bdrv_snapshot_delete_by_id_or_name(), which
check the return value and do the operation again.

Before this patch:
For qcow2, it search id first then name to find the one to delete.
  For rbd, it search name.
  For sheepdog, it does nothing.

After this patch:
For qcow2, logic is the same by call it twice in caller.
For rbd, it always fails in delete with id, but still search for name
in second try, no change to user.

Some code for *errp is based on Pavel's patch.

Paolo Bonzini e4a86f88cc qemu-img: always probe the input image for allocated sectors
qemu-img convert can assume "that sectors which are unallocated in the
input image are present in both the output's and input's base images".

However it is only doing this if the output image returns true for
bdrv_has_zero_init(). Testing bdrv_has_zero_init() does not make much
sense if the output image is copy-on-write, because a copy-on-write
image is never initialized to zero (it is initialized to the content
of the backing file).

There is nothing here that makes has_zero_init images special. The
input and output must be equal for the operation to make sense, and
that's it.

Stefan Hajnoczi 058f8f16db block: add BLOCK_O_CHECK for qemu-img check
Image formats with a dirty bit, like qed and qcow2, repair dirty image
files upon open with BDRV_O_RDWR. Performing automatic repair when
qemu-img check runs is not ideal because the bdrv_open() call repairs
the image before the actual bdrv_check() call from qemu-img.c.

Fix this "double repair" since it leads to confusing output from
qemu-img check. Tell the block driver that this image is being opened
just for bdrv_check(). This skips automatic repair and qemu-img.c can
invoke it manually with bdrv_check().

Update the golden output for qemu-iotests 039 to reflect the new
qemu-img check output.

Peter Maydell c8057f951d Support 'help' as a synonym for '?' in command line options
For command line options which permit '?' meaning 'please list the
permitted values', add support for 'help' as a synonym, by abstracting
the check out into a helper function.

This change means that in some cases where we were being lazy in
our string parsing, "?junk" will now be rejected as an invalid option
rather than being (undocumentedly) treated the same way as "?".

Update the documentation to use 'help' rather than '?', since '?'
is a shell metacharacter and thus prone to fail confusingly if there
is a single character filename in the current working directory and
the '?' has not been escaped. It's therefore better to steer users
towards 'help', though '?' is retained for backwards compatibility.

We do not, however, update the output of the system emulator's -help
(or any documentation autogenerated from the qemu-options.hx which
is the source of the -help text) because libvirt parses our -help
output and will break. At a later date when QEMU provides a better
interface so libvirt can avoid having to do this, we can update the
-help text too.

This consolidates the printing of block driver options in

Kevin Wolf a18953fbe7 qemu-img: Fix qemu-img convert -obacking_file
The old -B option caused a backing file to be used for the converted image and
to avoid copying clusters from the old backing file. When replaced with
-obacking_file, qemu-img convert does assign the backing file to the new image,
but it doesn't realize that it should avoid copying clusters from the backing
file.

This patch checks the -o options for a backing_file and applies the same logic
as for -B in this case.

Kevin Wolf 3e85c6fd71 qemu-img rebase
This adds a rebase subcommand to qemu-img which allows to change the backing
file of an image.

In default mode, both the current and the new backing file need to exist, and
after the rebase, the COW image is guaranteed to have the same guest visible
content as before. To achieve this, old and new backing file are compared and,
if necessary, data is copied from the old backing file into the COW image.

With -u an unsafe mode is enabled that doesn't require the backing files to
exist. It merely changes the backing file reference in the COW image. This is
useful for renaming or moving the backing file. The user is responsible to make
sure that the new backing file has no changes compared to the old one, or
corruption may occur.

This patch increases the maximum qcow2 cluster size to 2 MB. Starting with 128k

aliguori 93c65b47a6 Add host_device support to qemu-img. (Nolan Leake)
This patch allows the use a host_device as the destination for "qemu-img
convert".

I added a ->bdrv_create function host_device. It merely verifies that
the device exists and is large enough.

A check is needed in the qemu-img convert loop to ensure that we write
out all 0 sectors to the host_device. Otherwise they end up with stale
garbage where all zero sectors were expected.

I also made the check against bdrv_is_allocated enabled for everything
_except_ host devices, since there is no point in making the block
backend write a bunch of zeros just so that we can memcmp them
immediately afterwards. Host devices can't benefit from this because
there is no way to differentiate between a sector being unallocated
because it was never written, or because it was written with all zeros
and then made a trip through qemu-img convert.

Finally, there is an unrelated fix for a typo in the error message
printed if the destination device does not support ->bdrv_create.

blueswir1 d2c639d6dc Synch code, help and docs
Rearrange code, help printout and docs so that they are in the same
(hopefully more logical) order for easier maintenance.

Add help and docs for undocumented options.

Reformat slightly for more consistent help output.

Add comments to encourage better synchronization in the future.
