A smallish number of general cleanup commits this release cycle. Some
of these are minor tweaks:
- shmobile change of binding for their GIC (using arm,pl390 now)
- ARCH_RENESAS introduction
- Misc other renesas updates
There's also a couple of treewide commits from Masahiro Yamada cleaning up
const/__initconst for SMP operation structs and a switch to using "depends
on" instead of if-constructs on most of the Kconfig platform targets.

Infrastructural changes:
- In struct gpio_chip, rename the .dev node to .parent to better reflect
the fact that this is not the GPIO struct device abstraction. We will
add that soon so this would be totallt confusing.
- It was noted that the driver .get_value() callbacks was
sometimes reporting negative -ERR values to the gpiolib core, expecting
them to be propagated to consumer gpiod_get_value() and gpio_get_value()
calls. This was not happening, so as there was a mess of drivers
returning negative errors and some returning "anything else than zero"
to indicate that a line was active. As some would have bit 31 set to
indicate "line active" it clashed with negative error codes. This is
fixed by the largeish series clamping values in all drivers with
!!value to [0,1] and then augmenting the code to propagate error codes
to consumers. (Includes some ACKed patches in other subsystems.)
- Add a void *data pointer to struct gpio_chip. The container_of() design
pattern is indeed very nice, but we want to reform the struct gpio_chip
to be a non-volative, stateless business, and keep states internal to
the gpiolib to be able to hold on to the state when adding a proper
userspace ABI (character device) further down the road. To achieve this,
drivers need a handle at the internal state that is not dependent on
their struct gpio_chip() so we add gpiochip_add_data() and
gpiochip_get_data() following the pattern of many other subsystems.
All the "use gpiochip data pointer" patches transforms drivers to this
scheme.
- The Generic GPIO chip header has been merged into the general
<linux/gpio/driver.h> header, and the custom header for that removed.
Instead of having a separate mm_gpio_chip struct for these generic
drivers, merge that into struct gpio_chip, simplifying the code and
removing the need for separate and confusing includes.
Misc improvements:
- Stabilize the way GPIOs are looked up from the ACPI legacy
specification.
- Incremental driver features for PXA, PCA953X, Lantiq (patches from the
OpenWRT community), RCAR, Zynq, PL061, 104-idi-48
New drivers:
- Add a GPIO chip to the ALSA SoC AC97 driver.
- Add a new Broadcom NSP SoC driver (this lands in the pinctrl dir, but
the branch is merged here too to account for infrastructural changes).
- The sx150x driver now supports the sx1502.

"Here is the bulk of GPIO changes for v4.5.
Notably there are big refactorings mostly by myself, aimed at getting
the gpio_chip into a shape that makes me believe I can proceed to
preserve state for a proper userspace ABI (character device) that has
already been proposed once, but resulted in the feedback that I need
to go back and restructure stuff. So I've been restructuring stuff.
On the way I ran into brokenness (return code from the get_value()
callback) and had to fix it. Also, refactored generic GPIO to be
simpler.
Some of that is still waiting to trickle down from the subsystems all
over the kernel that provide random gpio_chips, I've touched every
single GPIO driver in the kernel now, oh man I didn't know I was
responsible for so much...
Apart from that we're churning along as usual.
I took some effort to test and retest so it should merge nicely and we
shook out a couple of bugs in -next.

Generic MTD
* populate the MTD device 'of_node' field (and get a proper 'of_node' symlink

- This yielded some new helper functions, and changes across a variety of

* embed a struct mtd_info inside struct nand_chip
- This is really long overdue; too many drivers have to do the same silly
boilerplate to allocate and link up two "independent" structs, when in
fact, everyone is assuming there is an exact 1:1 relationship between a
NAND chips struct and its underlying MTD. This aids improved helpers and

The separate struct bgpio_chip has been a pain to handle, both
by being confusingly similar in name to struct gpio_chip and
for being contained inside a struct so that struct gpio_chip
is contained in a struct contained in a struct, making several
steps of dereferencing necessary.
Make things simpler: include the fields directly into
<linux/gpio/driver.h>, #ifdef:ed for CONFIG_GENERIC_GPIO, and
get rid of the <linux/basic_mmio_gpio.h> altogether. Prefix
some of the member variables with bgpio_* and add proper
kerneldoc while we're at it.
Modify all users to handle the change and use a struct
gpio_chip directly. And while we're at it: replace all
container_of() dereferencing by gpiochip_get_data() and
registering the gpio_chip with gpiochip_add_data().

Many ARM sub-architectures use prompts followed by "if" conditional,
but it is wrong.
Please notice the difference between
config ARCH_FOO
bool "Foo SoCs" if ARCH_MULTI_V7
and
config ARCH_FOO
bool "Foo SoCs"
depends on ARCH_MULTI_V7
These two are *not* equivalent!
In the former statement, it is not ARCH_FOO, but its prompt that
depends on ARCH_MULTI_V7. So, it is completely valid that ARCH_FOO
is selected by another, but ARCH_MULTI_V7 is still disabled. As it is
not unmet dependency, Kconfig never warns. This is probably not what
you want.
The former should be used only when you need to do so, and you really
understand what you are doing. (In most cases, it should be wrong!)
For enabling/disabling sub-architectures, the latter is always correct.
As a good side effect, this commit fixes some entries over 80 columns
(mach-imx, mach-integrator, mach-mbevu).
[Arnd: I note that there is not really a bug here, according to
the discussion that followed, but I can see value in being consistent
and in making the lines shorter]

GPC irq domain is a child domain of GIC, now all of platform irqs
are inside GPC domain, during the module populate, all devices irq
should have correct type setting in GIC, however, there is no
.irq_set_type callback setting in GPC, so the irq_set_type will be
skipped and cause all irqs' type in /proc/interrupt are "edge" which
mismatch with irq type setting in dtb file. Since GPC has no irq
type setting, so just tell kernel to use irq_chip_set_type_parent.

- ACPICA update to upstream revision 20150930 (Bob Moore, Lv Zheng).
The most significant change is to allow the AML debugger to be
built into the kernel. On top of that there is an update related
to the NFIT table (the ACPI persistent memory interface)
and a few fixes and cleanups.
- ACPI CPPC2 (Collaborative Processor Performance Control v2)
support along with a cpufreq frontend (Ashwin Chaugule).
This can only be enabled on ARM64 at this point.
- New ACPI infrastructure for the early probing of IRQ chips and
clock sources (Marc Zyngier).

_DSD (Device Specific Data) device configuration object allowing
the kernel to handle hierarchical properties (provided by the
platform firmware this way) automatically and make them available
to device drivers via the generic device properties interface
(Rafael Wysocki).
- Generic device properties API extension to obtain an index of
certain string value in an array of strings, along the lines of
of_property_match_string(), but working for all of the supported
firmware node types, and support for the "dma-names" device
property based on it (Mika Westerberg).

entries in the order expected by platform firmware (and mandated
by the specification) to avoid confusion on systems with more than
255 logical CPUs (Lukasz Anaczkowski).
- Consolidation of the ACPI-based handling of PCI host bridges
on x86 and ia64 (Jiang Liu).

- New mechanism in the PM core allowing drivers to check if the
platform firmware is going to be involved in the upcoming system
suspend or if it has been involved in the suspend the system is
resuming from at the moment (Rafael Wysocki).
This should allow drivers to optimize their suspend/resume
handling in some cases and the changes include a couple of users
of it (the i8042 input driver, PCI PM).
- PCI PM fix to prevent runtime-suspended devices with PME enabled
from being resumed during system suspend even if they aren't
configured to wake up the system from sleep (Rafael Wysocki).
- New mechanism to report the number of a wakeup IRQ that woke up
the system from sleep last time (Alexandra Yates).
- Removal of unused interfaces from the generic power domains
framework and fixes related to latency measurements in that
code (Ulf Hansson, Daniel Lezcano).
- cpufreq core sysfs interface rework to make it handle CPUs that
share performance scaling settings (represented by a common
cpufreq policy object) more symmetrically (Viresh Kumar).
This should help to simplify the CPU offline/online handling among
other things.
- cpufreq core fixes and cleanups (Viresh Kumar).
- intel_pstate fixes related to the Turbo Activation Ratio (TAR)
mechanism on client platforms which causes the turbo P-states
range to vary depending on platform firmware settings (Srinivas

Merge tag 'pm+acpi-4.4-rc1-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm
Pull power management and ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"Quite a new features are included this time.
First off, the Collaborative Processor Performance Control interface
(version 2) defined by ACPI will now be supported on ARM64 along with
a cpufreq frontend for CPU performance scaling.
Second, ACPI gets a new infrastructure for the early probing of IRQ
chips and clock sources (along the lines of the existing similar
mechanism for DT).
Next, the ACPI core and the generic device properties API will now
support a recently introduced hierarchical properties extension of the
_DSD (Device Specific Data) ACPI device configuration object. If the
ACPI platform firmware uses that extension to organize device
properties in a hierarchical way, the kernel will automatically handle
it and make those properties available to device drivers via the
generic device properties API.
It also will be possible to build the ACPICA's AML interpreter
debugger into the kernel now and use that to diagnose AML-related
problems more efficiently. In the future, this should make it
possible to single-step AML execution and do similar things.
Interesting stuff, although somewhat experimental at this point.
Finally, the PM core gets a new mechanism that can be used by device
drivers to distinguish between suspend-to-RAM (based on platform
firmware support) and suspend-to-idle (or other variants of system
suspend the platform firmware is not involved in) and possibly
optimize their device suspend/resume handling accordingly.
In addition to that, some existing features are re-organized quite
substantially.
First, the ACPI-based handling of PCI host bridges on x86 and ia64 is
unified and the common code goes into the ACPI core (so as to reduce
code duplication and eliminate non-essential differences between the
two architectures in that area).
Second, the Operating Performance Points (OPP) framework is
reorganized to make the code easier to find and follow.
Next, the cpufreq core's sysfs interface is reorganized to get rid of
the "primary CPU" concept for configurations in which the same
performance scaling settings are shared between multiple CPUs.
Finally, some interfaces that aren't necessary any more are dropped
from the generic power domains framework.
On top of the above we have some minor extensions, cleanups and bug
fixes in multiple places, as usual.
Specifics:
- ACPICA update to upstream revision 20150930 (Bob Moore, Lv Zheng).

Since we now have a generic data structure to express an
interrupt specifier, convert all hierarchical irqchips that
are OF based to use a fwnode_handle as part of their alloc
and xlate (which becomes translate) callbacks.
As most of these drivers have dependencies (they exchange IRQ
specifiers), change them all in a single, massive patch...

The struct irq_domain contains a "struct device_node *" field
(of_node) that is almost the only link between the irqdomain

In order to prepare for the removal of that field, convert all

This patch adds suspend function for i.MX6UL, it supports
"standby" and "mem" mode, for "standby" mode, SoC will
enter STOP mode only, while for "mem" mode, SoC will
enter STOP mode and DDR IO will be set to low power
mode.
As i.MX6UL contains a "Cortex-A7" ARM core which has no
PL310, so we need to avoid any PL310 operations during
suspend/resume, also, we need to flush Cortex-A7's inernal
L2 cache before suspend.

This change modifies gen_pool_get() and devm_gen_pool_create() client
interfaces adding one more argument "name" of a gen_pool object.
Due to implementation gen_pool_get() is capable to retrieve only one
gen_pool associated with a device even if multiple gen_pools are created,
fortunately right at the moment it is sufficient for the clients, hence
provide NULL as a valid argument on both producer devm_gen_pool_create()
and consumer gen_pool_get() sides.
Because only one created gen_pool per device is addressable, explicitly
add a restriction to devm_gen_pool_create() to create only one gen_pool
per device, this implies two possible error codes returned by the
function, account it on client side (only misc/sram). This completes
client side changes related to genalloc updates.

set_irq_flags is ARM specific with custom flags which have genirq
equivalents. Convert drivers to use the genirq interfaces directly, so we
can kill off set_irq_flags. The translation of flags is as follows:
IRQF_VALID -> !IRQ_NOREQUEST
IRQF_PROBE -> !IRQ_NOPROBE
IRQF_NOAUTOEN -> IRQ_NOAUTOEN
For IRQs managed by an irqdomain, the irqdomain core code handles clearing
and setting IRQ_NOREQUEST already, so there is no need to do this in
.map() functions and we can simply remove the set_irq_flags calls. Some
users also modify IRQ_NOPROBE and this has been maintained although it
is not clear that is really needed. There appears to be a great deal of
blind copy and paste of this code.

Migrate imx driver to the new 'set-state' interface provided by
clockevents core, the earlier 'set-mode' interface is marked obsolete
now.
This also enables us to implement callbacks for new states of clockevent
devices, for example: ONESHOT_STOPPED.
Also drop 'clockevent_mode': It was caching the last state of the
clockevent device. The same behavior can be achieved by using
clockevents state helpers. These helpers are only required for oneshot
mode as shutdown/resume wouldn't be done twice by the core.

If CONFIG_PM is not set the PU power domain needs to be enabled always,
otherwise there are two failure scenarios which will hang the system if
one of the devices in the PU domain is accessed.
1. New DTs (4.1+) drop the "always-on" property from the PU regulator, so
if it isn't properly enabled by the GPC code it will be disabled at the
end of boot.
2. If the bootloader already disabled the PU domain the GPC explicitly
needs to enable it again, even if the kernel doesn't do any power
management. This is a bit hypothetical, as it requires to boot a
mainline kernel on a downstream bootloader, as no mainline bootloader
disables the PM domains.

Like i.MX6, the i.MX7 code calls into the anatop driver, which fails
if that is disabled:

A recent change to the imx53 power management caused a build
regression when CONFIG_SOC_IMX53 is disabled:
mach-imx/built-in.o:(.init.rodata+0x60): undefined reference to `imx53_suspend'
mach-imx/built-in.o:(.init.rodata+0x64): undefined reference to `imx53_suspend_sz'
This avoids the problem by compiling the code in question
conditionally on the presence of CONFIG_SOC_IMX53. For
consistency, I'm also changing the same thing for
CONFIG_SOC_IMX51.
An additional benefit of this approach is reduced code size
for kernels that only include support for one of the two
SoCs.

In order to save power the DDR pins should be put into high
impedance when in suspend to RAM.
This requires manually requesting self refresh (rather than using the
automatic mode implemented by the CCM / ESDCTL), followed by
reconfiguring the IOMUXC.
Of course the code to do this cannot itself run from DDR so the
code is copied to and executed from internal memory.
In my tests using a custom i.MX53 board with LPDDR2 RAM
this reduced the suspend power consumption from 200mW to 60mW.

Commit 4631960d26da ("ARM: imx6: set initial power mode in pm function")
moves imx6_set_lpm() from clock init function into
imx6_pm_common_init(). This causes a hang when cpuidle support is
enabled. The reason for that is ARM core clock is shut down
unexpectedly by WAIT mode. It happens with the following call stack:
cpuidle_register_governor()
cpuidle_switch_governor()
cpuidle_uninstall_idle_handler()
synchronize_sched()
wait_rcu_gp()
wait_for_completion()
When wait_for_completion() is called as above, all cores are idle/WFI.
Hence, the reset value of CCM_CLPCR_LPM - WAIT mode, will trigger a
hardware shutdown of the ARM core clock.
To fix the regression, we need to ensure that CCM_CLPCR_LPM is
initialized into RUN mode earlier than cpuidle governor registration,
which is a postcore_initcall. This patch creates function
imx6_pm_ccm_init() to map CCM block and initialize CCM_CLPCR_LPM into
RUN mode, and have the function called from machine .init_irq hook,
which should be early enough.

Rather than setting initial low-power mode in every single i.MX6 clock

All ARMv5 and older CPUs invalidate their caches in the early assembly
setup function, prior to enabling the MMU. This is because the L1
cache should not contain any data relevant to the execution of the
kernel at this point; all data should have been flushed out to memory.
This requirement should also be true for ARMv6 and ARMv7 CPUs - indeed,
these typically do not search their caches when caching is disabled (as
it needs to be when the MMU is disabled) so this change should be safe.
ARMv7 allows there to be CPUs which search their caches while caching is
disabled, and it's permitted that the cache is uninitialised at boot;
for these, the architecture reference manual requires that an
implementation specific code sequence is used immediately after reset
to ensure that the cache is placed into a sane state. Such
functionality is definitely outside the remit of the Linux kernel, and
must be done by the SoC's firmware before _any_ CPU gets to the Linux
kernel.
Changing the data cache clean+invalidate to a mere invalidate allows us
to get rid of a lot of platform specific hacks around this issue for
their secondary CPU bringup paths - some of which were buggy.

ARM: Show proper respect for Heinrich Hertz by using the correct unit for frequency
If the devicetree is too old and does not provide the regulator and clocks
for the power domain, we need to avoid registering the power domain.
Otherwise runtime PM will try to control the domain, which will lead to
machine hangs without the proper DT configuration data.
This restores functionality to the kernel 4.0 level if an old DT is
detected, where the power domain is constantly powered on.

The GPC rewrite to IRQ domains has been on the premise that it may break
suspend/resume for new kernels on old DT, but otherwise keep things working
from a user perspective. This was an accepted compromise to be able to move
the GIC cleanup forward.
What actually happened was that booting a new kernel on an old DT crashes
before even the console is up, so the user does not even see the warning
that the DT is too old. The warning message suggests that this has been
known before, which is clearly unacceptable.
Fix the early crash by mapping the GPC memory space if the IRQ controller
doesn't claim it. This keeps at least CPUidle and the needed CPU wakeup
workarounds working. With this fixed the system is able to boot up
properly minus the expected suspend/resume breakage.

This patch allows to build the Kernel for Vybrid (VF6xx) SoC
when ARMv7-M CPU is selected. The resulting image runs on the
secondary Cortex-M4 core. This core has equally access to all
peripherals as the main Cortex-A5 core. However, there is no
resource control mechanism, hence when both cores are used
simultaneously, orthogonal device tree's are required.
The boot CPU is dependent on the SoC variant. The available
boards use mostly variants where the Cortex-A5 is the primary
and hence the boot CPU. Booting the secondary Cortex-M4 CPU
needs SoC specific registers written. There is no in kernel
support for this right now, a external userspace utility

Now that the GPC has been converted to be a full blown irqchip
(and not a mole on the side of the GIC), booting a new kernel
with an old DT is likely to result in a rough ride for the user.
This patch makes sure such a situation is promptly detected and
the user made aware that a DT update is in order.

IMX6 has been (ab)using the gic_arch_extn to provide
wakeup from suspend, and it makes a lot of sense to convert
this code to use stacked domains instead.
This patch does just this, updating the DT files to actually
reflect what the HW provides.
BIG FAT WARNING: because the DTs were so far lying by not
exposing the fact that the GPC block is actually the first
interrupt controller in the chain, kernels with this patch
applied wont have any suspend-resume facility when booted
with old DTs, and old kernels with updated DTs won't even boot.

The cpu_do_idle() function is always used by the cpuidle drivers.
That led to have each driver including cpuidle.h and proc-fns.h, they are
always paired. That makes a lot of duplicate headers inclusion. Instead of
including both in each .c file, move the proc-fns.h header inclusion in the
cpuidle.h header file directly, so we can save some line of code.

Since commit 035a61c314 ("clk: Make clk API return per-user struct clk
instances"), clk API users can no longer check if two struct clk
pointers are pointing to the same hardware clock, i.e. struct clk_hw, by
simply comparing two pointers. That's because with the per-user clk
change, a brand new struct clk is created whenever clients try to look
up the clock by calling clk_get() or sister functions like clk_get_sys()
and of_clk_get(). This changes the original behavior where the struct
clk is only created for once when clock driver registers the clock to
CCF in the first place. The net change here is before commit
035a61c314 the struct clk pointer is unique for given hardware
clock, while after the commit the pointers returned by clk lookup calls
become different for the same hardware clock.
That said, the struct clk pointer comparing in the code doesn't work any
more. Call helper function clk_is_match() instead to fix the problem.

When generic pm domain support is enabled, the PGC can be used
to completely gate power to the PU power domain containing GPU3D,
GPU2D, and VPU cores.
This code triggers the PGC powerdown sequence to disable the GPU/VPU
isolation cells and gate power and then disables the PU regulator.
To reenable, the reverse powerup sequence is triggered after the PU
regulator is enabled again.
The GPU and VPU devices in the PU power domain temporarily need
to be clocked during powerup, so that the reset machinery can work.

This adds support for Vybrid's interrupt router. On VF6xx models,
almost all peripherals can be used by either of the two CPU's,
the Cortex-A5 or the Cortex-M4. The interrupt router routes the
peripheral interrupts to the configured CPU.
This IRQ chip driver configures the interrupt router to route
the requested interrupt to the CPU the kernel is running on.
The driver makes use of the irqdomain hierarchy support. The
parent is given by the device tree. This should be one of the
two possible parents either ARM GIC or the ARM NVIC interrupt
controller. The latter is currently not yet supported.
Note that there is no resource control mechnism implemented to
avoid concurrent access of the same peripheral. The user needs
to make sure to use device trees which assign the peripherals
orthogonally. However, this driver warns the user in case the
interrupt is already configured for the other CPU. This provides
a poor man's resource controller.

New and updated SoC support. Also included are some cleanups where the
platform maintainers hadn't separated cleanups from new developent in
separate branches.
Some of the larger things worth pointing out:
- A large set of changes from Alexandre Belloni and Nicolas Ferre
preparing at91 platforms for multiplatform and cleaning up quite a
bit in the process.
- Removal of CSR's "Marco" SoC platform that never made it out to the
market. We love seeing these since it means the vendor published
support before product was out, which is exactly what we want!
New platforms this release are:
- Conexant Digicolor (CX92755 SoC)
- Hisilicon HiP01 SoC
- CSR/sirf Atlas7 SoC
- ST STiH418 SoC
- Common code changes for Nvidia Tegra132 (64-bit SoC)
We're seeing more and more platforms having a harder time labelling
changes as cleanups vs new development -- which is a good sign that
we've come quite far on the cleanup effort. So over time we might start
combining the cleanup and new-development branches more.

Pull ARM SoC platform changes from Olof Johansson:
"New and updated SoC support. Also included are some cleanups where
the platform maintainers hadn't separated cleanups from new developent
in separate branches.
So over time we might
start combining the cleanup and new-development branches more"

3 levels of cpuidle are supported as below:
1. ARM WFI;
2. SOC in WAIT mode;
3. SOC in WAIT mode + ARM power off.
ARM power off can save at least 5mW power.

For those clk gates which hold share count, since its is_enabled
callback is only checking the share count rather than reading
the hardware register setting, in the late phase of kernel bootup,
the clk_disable_unused action will NOT handle the scenario of
share_count is 0 but the hardware setting is enabled, actually,
U-Boot normally enables all clk gates, then those shared clk gates
will be always enabled until they are used by some modules.
So the problem would be: when kernel boot up, the usecount cat
from clk tree is 0, but the clk gates actually is enabled in
hardware register, it will confuse user and bring unnecessary power
consumption.
This patch adds .disable_unused callback and using hardware register
check for .is_enabled callback of shared nodes to handle such scenario
in late phase of kernel boot up, then the hardware status will match the
clk tree info.

Other than that, a few minor driver core and debugfs changes. There are
some ath9k patches coming in through this tree that have been acked by

This time we have some more new material than we used to have during
the last couple of development cycles.
The most important part of it to me is the introduction of a unified
interface for accessing device properties provided by platform
firmware. It works with Device Trees and ACPI in a uniform way and
drivers using it need not worry about where the properties come
from as long as the platform firmware (either DT or ACPI) makes
them available. It covers both devices and "bare" device node
objects without struct device representation as that turns out to
be necessary in some cases. This has been in the works for quite
a few months (and development cycles) and has been approved by
all of the relevant maintainers.
On top of that, some drivers are switched over to the new interface
(at25, leds-gpio, gpio_keys_polled) and some additional changes are
made to the core GPIO subsystem to allow device drivers to manipulate
GPIOs in the "canonical" way on platforms that provide GPIO information
in their ACPI tables, but don't assign names to GPIO lines (in which
case the driver needs to do that on the basis of what it knows about
the device in question). That also has been approved by the GPIO
core maintainers and the rfkill driver is now going to use it.
Second is support for hardware P-states in the intel_pstate driver.
It uses CPUID to detect whether or not the feature is supported by
the processor in which case it will be enabled by default. However,
it can be disabled entirely from the kernel command line if necessary.
Next is support for a platform firmware interface based on ACPI
operation regions used by the PMIC (Power Management Integrated
Circuit) chips on the Intel Baytrail-T and Baytrail-T-CR platforms.
That interface is used for manipulating power resources and for
thermal management: sensor temperature reporting, trip point setting
and so on.
Also the ACPI core is now going to support the _DEP configuration
information in a limited way. Basically, _DEP it supposed to reflect
off-the-hierarchy dependencies between devices which may be very
indirect, like when AML for one device accesses locations in an
operation region handled by another device's driver (usually, the
device depended on this way is a serial bus or GPIO controller).
The support added this time is sufficient to make the ACPI battery
driver work on Asus T100A, but it is general enough to be able to
cover some other use cases in the future.
Finally, we have a new cpufreq driver for the Loongson1B processor.
In addition to the above, there are fixes and cleanups all over the
place as usual and a traditional ACPICA update to a recent upstream
release.
As far as the fixes go, the ACPI LPSS (Low-power Subsystem) driver
for Intel platforms should be able to handle power management of
the DMA engine correctly, the cpufreq-dt driver should interact
with the thermal subsystem in a better way and the ACPI backlight
driver should handle some more corner cases, among other things.
On top of the ACPICA update there are fixes for race conditions
in the ACPICA's interrupt handling code which might lead to some
random and strange looking failures on some systems.
In the cleanups department the most visible part is the series
of commits targeted at getting rid of the CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME
configuration option. That was triggered by a discussion
regarding the generic power domains code during which we realized
that trying to support certain combinations of PM config options
was painful and not really worth it, because nobody would use them
in production anyway. For this reason, we decided to make
CONFIG_PM_SLEEP select CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME and that lead to the
conclusion that the latter became redundant and CONFIG_PM could
be used instead of it. The material here makes that replacement
in a major part of the tree, but there will be at least one more
batch of that in the second part of the merge window.
Specifics:
- Support for retrieving device properties information from ACPI
_DSD device configuration objects and a unified device properties
interface for device drivers (and subsystems) on top of that.
As stated above, this works with Device Trees and ACPI and allows
device drivers to be written in a platform firmware (DT or ACPI)
agnostic way. The at25, leds-gpio and gpio_keys_polled drivers
are now going to use this new interface and the GPIO subsystem
is additionally modified to allow device drivers to assign names
to GPIO resources returned by ACPI _CRS objects (in case _DSD is
not present or does not provide the expected data). The changes
in this set are mostly from Mika Westerberg, Rafael J Wysocki,
Aaron Lu, and Darren Hart with some fixes from others (Fabio Estevam,
Geert Uytterhoeven).
- Support for Hardware Managed Performance States (HWP) as described
in Volume 3, section 14.4, of the Intel SDM in the intel_pstate
driver. CPUID is used to detect whether or not the feature is
supported by the processor. If supported, it will be enabled
automatically unless the intel_pstate=no_hwp switch is present in
the kernel command line. From Dirk Brandewie.
- New Intel Broadwell-H ID for intel_pstate (Dirk Brandewie).
- Support for firmware interface based on ACPI operation regions
used by the PMIC chips on the Intel Baytrail-T and Baytrail-T-CR
platforms for power resource control and thermal management
(Aaron Lu).
- Limited support for retrieving off-the-hierarchy dependencies
between devices from ACPI _DEP device configuration objects
and deferred probing support for the ACPI battery driver based
on the _DEP information to make that driver work on Asus T100A
(Lan Tianyu).
- New cpufreq driver for the Loongson1B processor (Kelvin Cheung).
- ACPICA update to upstream revision 20141107 which only affects
tools (Bob Moore).
- Fixes for race conditions in the ACPICA's interrupt handling
code and in the ACPI code related to system suspend and resume
(Lv Zheng and Rafael J Wysocki).
- ACPI core fix for an RCU-related issue in the ioremap() regions
management code that slowed down significantly after CPUs had
been allowed to enter idle states even if they'd had RCU callbakcs
queued and triggered some problems in certain proprietary graphics
driver (and elsewhere). The fix replaces synchronize_rcu() in
that code with synchronize_rcu_expedited() which makes the issue
go away. From Konstantin Khlebnikov.
- ACPI LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver fix to handle power
management of the DMA engine included into the LPSS correctly.
The problem is that the DMA engine doesn't have ACPI PM support
of its own and it simply is turned off when the last LPSS device
having ACPI PM support goes into D3cold. To work around that,
the PM domain used by the ACPI LPSS driver is redesigned so at
least one device with ACPI PM support will be on as long as the
DMA engine is in use. From Andy Shevchenko.
- ACPI backlight driver fix to avoid using it on "Win8-compatible"
systems where it doesn't work and where it was used by default by
mistake (Aaron Lu).
- Assorted minor ACPI core fixes and cleanups from Tomasz Nowicki,
Sudeep Holla, Huang Rui, Hanjun Guo, Fabian Frederick, and
Ashwin Chaugule (mostly related to the upcoming ARM64 support).
- Intel RAPL (Running Average Power Limit) power capping driver
fixes and improvements including new processor IDs (Jacob Pan).
- Generic power domains modification to power up domains after
attaching devices to them to meet the expectations of device
drivers and bus types assuming devices to be accessible at
probe time (Ulf Hansson).
- Preliminary support for controlling device clocks from the
generic power domains core code and modifications of the
ARM/shmobile platform to use that feature (Ulf Hansson).
- Assorted minor fixes and cleanups of the generic power
domains core code (Ulf Hansson, Geert Uytterhoeven).
- Assorted minor fixes and cleanups of the device clocks control
code in the PM core (Geert Uytterhoeven, Grygorii Strashko).
- Consolidation of device power management Kconfig options by making
CONFIG_PM_SLEEP select CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME and removing the latter
which is now redundant (Rafael J Wysocki and Kevin Hilman). That
is the first batch of the changes needed for this purpose.
- Core device runtime power management support code cleanup related
to the execution of callbacks (Andrzej Hajda).
- cpuidle ARM support improvements (Lorenzo Pieralisi).
- cpuidle cleanup related to the CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_VALID flag and
a new MAINTAINERS entry for ARM Exynos cpuidle (Daniel Lezcano and
Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz).
- New cpufreq driver callback (->ready) to be executed when the
cpufreq core is ready to use a given policy object and cpufreq-dt
driver modification to use that callback for cooling device
registration (Viresh Kumar).
- cpufreq core fixes and cleanups (Viresh Kumar, Vince Hsu,
James Geboski, Tomeu Vizoso).
- Assorted fixes and cleanups in the cpufreq-pcc, intel_pstate,
cpufreq-dt, pxa2xx cpufreq drivers (Lenny Szubowicz, Ethan Zhao,
Stefan Wahren, Petr Cvek).
- OPP (Operating Performance Points) framework modification to
allow OPPs to be removed too and update of a few cpufreq drivers
(cpufreq-dt, exynos5440, imx6q, cpufreq) to remove OPPs (added
during initialization) on driver removal (Viresh Kumar).
- Hibernation core fixes and cleanups (Tina Ruchandani and
Markus Elfring).
- PM Kconfig fix related to CPU power management (Pankaj Dubey).
- cpupower tool fix (Prarit Bhargava).

- cpuidle cleanup related to the CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_VALID flag and a
new MAINTAINERS entry for ARM Exynos cpuidle (Daniel Lezcano and
Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz).
- New cpufreq driver callback (->ready) to be executed when the
cpufreq core is ready to use a given policy object and cpufreq-dt
driver modification to use that callback for cooling device
registration (Viresh Kumar).
- cpufreq core fixes and cleanups (Viresh Kumar, Vince Hsu, James
Geboski, Tomeu Vizoso).
- Assorted fixes and cleanups in the cpufreq-pcc, intel_pstate,
cpufreq-dt, pxa2xx cpufreq drivers (Lenny Szubowicz, Ethan Zhao,
Stefan Wahren, Petr Cvek).
- OPP (Operating Performance Points) framework modification to allow
OPPs to be removed too and update of a few cpufreq drivers
(cpufreq-dt, exynos5440, imx6q, cpufreq) to remove OPPs (added
during initialization) on driver removal (Viresh Kumar).
- Hibernation core fixes and cleanups (Tina Ruchandani and Markus
Elfring).

The remaining cleanups for 3.19 are to a large part result of
devicetree conversion nearing completion on two other platforms
besides AT91:
* Like AT91, Renesas shmobile is in the process to migrate to DT and
multiplatform, but using a different approach of doing it one
SoC at a time. For 3.19, the r8a7791 platform and associated\
"Koelsch" board are considered complete and we remove the non-DT
non-multiplatform support for this.
* The ARM Versatile Express has supported DT and multiplatform
for a long time, but we have still kept the legacy board files
around, because not all drivers were fully working before. We
have finally taken the last step to remove the board files.
Other changes in this branch are preparation for the later branches
or just unrelated to the more interesting changes:
* The dts files for arm64 get moved into per-vendor directories for
a clearer structure.
* Some dead code removal (zynq, exynos, davinci, imx)
* Using pr_*() macros more consistently instead of printk(KERN_*)
in some platform code.

The imx6 PM code seems to be quite creative in its use of irq_data,
using something that is very much a hardware interrupt number where
we expect a virtual one. Yes, it worked so far, but that's only
luck, and it will definitely explode in 3.19.
Fix it by using a pair of helper functions that deal with the
actual hardware.

mach-imx directly references to the irq field in
struct irq_data, and uses this to directly poke hardware register.
But irq is the *virtual* irq number, something that has nothing
to do with the actual HW irq (stored in the hwirq field). And once
we put the stacked domain code in action, the whole thing explodes,
as these two values are *very* different.
Just replacing all instances of irq with hwirq fixes the issue.

The newly introduced LS1021A SoC selects CONFIG_SOC_FSL, which
is originally symbol used for the PowerPC based platforms
and guards lots of code that does not build on ARM.
This breaks allmodconfig, so let's remove it for now, until
either all those drivers are fixed or they use a dependency
on IMX instead.

With the clock assignment device tree changes, the clocks get
initialized properly but the search for those clocks fails with
errors:
[ 0.000000] i.MX clk 4: register failed with -17
[ 0.000000] i.MX clk 5: register failed with -17
This is because the module can't find those clocks anymore, and
tries to initialize fixed clocks with the same name.
Get the clock modules input clocks from the assigned clocks by
default by using of_clk_get_by_name(). If this function returns
not a valid clock, fall back to the old behaviour and search the
input clock from the device tree's /clocks/$name node.

Add the ARM Global Timer as clocksource/scheduler clock option and
use it as default scheduler clock. This leaves the PIT timer for

we used cpu type to decide how to do these settings in suspend

The only place where the time is invalid is when the ACPI_CSTATE_FFH entry
method is not set. Otherwise for all the drivers, the time can be correctly
measured.
Instead of duplicating the CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_VALID flag in all the drivers
for all the states, just invert the logic by replacing it by the flag
CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_INVALID, hence we can set this flag only for the acpi idle

So far, the required PLL's (PLL1/PLL2/PLL5) have been initialized
by boot loader and the kernel code defined fixed rates according
to those default configurations. Beginning with the USB PLL7 the

However, since commit dc4805c2e7

imx_clk_pllv3 no longer takes care of the ENABLE and BYPASS bits,
hence the USB PLL were not configured correctly anymore.
This patch not only fixes those USB PLL's, but also makes use of
the imx_clk_pllv3 for all PLL's and alignes the code with the PLL
support of the i.MX6 series.

Fix a typo error, the "emi" names refer to the eim clocks.
The change fixes typo in EIM and EIM_SLOW pre-output dividers and
selectors clock names. Notably EIM_SLOW clock itself is named correctly.

- Rework the handling of wakeup IRQs by the IRQ core such that
all of them will be switched over to "wakeup" mode in
suspend_device_irqs() and in that mode the first interrupt
will abort system suspend in progress or wake up the system
if already in suspend-to-idle (or equivalent) without executing
any interrupt handlers. Among other things that eliminates the
wakeup-related motivation to use the IRQF_NO_SUSPEND interrupt
flag with interrupts which don't really need it and should not
use it (Thomas Gleixner and Rafael J Wysocki).
- Switch over ACPI to handling wakeup interrupts with the help
of the new mechanism introduced by the above IRQ core rework
(Rafael J Wysocki).
- Rework the core generic PM domains code to eliminate code that's
not used, add DT support and add a generic mechanism by which
devices can be added to PM domains automatically during

- Add _OSI("Darwin") support to the ACPI core (unfortunately, that

creating acpi_video interfaces that won't work and adding a quirk
for Lenovo Ideapad Z570 (Hans de Goede, Aaron Lu and Stepan Bujnak).
- New Win8 ACPI OSI quirks for some Dell laptops (Edward Lin).

Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"Features-wise, to me the most important this time is a rework of
wakeup interrupts handling in the core that makes them work
consistently across all of the available sleep states, including
suspend-to-idle. Many thanks to Thomas Gleixner for his help with
this work.
Second is an update of the generic PM domains code that has been in
need of some care for quite a while. Unused code is being removed, DT
support is being added and domains are now going to be attached to
devices in bus type code in analogy with the ACPI PM domain. The
majority of work here was done by Ulf Hansson who also has been the
most active developer this time.
Apart from this we have a traditional ACPICA update, this time to
upstream version 20140828 and a few ACPI wakeup interrupts handling
patches on top of the general rework mentioned above. There also are
several cpufreq commits including renaming the cpufreq-cpu0 driver to
cpufreq-dt, as this is what implements generic DT-based cpufreq
support, and a new DT-based idle states infrastructure for cpuidle.
In addition to that, the ACPI LPSS driver is updated, ACPI support for
Apple machines is improved, a few bugs are fixed and a few cleanups
are made all over.
Finally, the Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) subsystem now has a tree
maintained by Kevin Hilman that will be merged through the PM tree.
Numbers-wise, the generic PM domains update takes the lead this time
with 32 non-merge commits, second is cpufreq (15 commits) and the 3rd
place goes to the wakeup interrupts handling rework (13 commits).

Commit 63288b721a ("ARM: imx: fix shared gate clock") attempted to fix
an issue with particular enable/disable sequence from two shared gate
clocks. But unfortunately, while it partially fixed the issue, it also
did something wrong in .is_enabled() function hook. In case of shared
gate, the function shouldn't really query the hardware state via
share_count, because the function is trying to query the enabling state
of the clock in question, not the hardware state which is shared by
multiple clocks.
Fix the issue by returning the enable_count of the clock itself which is
maintained by clock core, in case it's a clock sharing hardware gate
with others. As the result, the initialization of share_count per
hardware state is not needed now. So remove it.

On i.MX6Q TO > 1.0, i.MX6DL and i.MX6SX, gpt per clock
can be from OSC instead of ipg_per, as ipg_per's rate
may be scaled when system enter low bus mode, to keep
system timer NOT drift, better to make gpt per clock
at fixed rate, here add support for gpt per clock to
be from OSC which is at fixed rate always.
There are some difference on this implementation of
gpt per clock source, see below for details:
i.MX6Q TO > 1.0: GPT_CR_CLKSRC, b'101 selects fix clock
of OSC / 8 for gpt per clk;
i.MX6DL and i.MX6SX: GPT_CR_CLKSRC, b'101 selects OSC
for gpt per clk, and we must enable GPT_CR_24MEM to
enable OSC clk source for gpt per, GPT_PR_PRESCALER24M
is for pre-scaling of this OSC clk, here set it to 8
to make gpt per clk is 3MHz;
i.MX6SL: ipg_per can be from OSC directly, so no need to
implement this new clk source for gpt per.

The imx6q clock driver currently hard-codes all PLL clocks to source
from OSC24M without BYPASS support. The patch adds the missing lvds_in
clock which is mutually exclusive with lvds_gate, and implements BYPASS
and BYPASS_CLK_SRC selection for PLL clocks as per Figure 10-3. Primary
Clock Generation in IMX6DQRM, i.e. both BYPASS_CLK_SRC and BYPASS bits
are implemented as mux clocks, and ENABLE bit of PLL clocks is
implemented as a gate clock after BYPASS mux.

There are a couple of gate clocks are mutually exclusive on i.MX6, i.e.
LVDSCLK1_IBEN and LVDSCLK1_OBEN. They cannot be enabled simultaneously.
This patches adds an exclusive gate clock type specifically for such
case. The clock driver will need to call imx_clk_gate_exclusive() to
register a gate clock with parameter exclusive_mask indicating the mask
of gate bits which are mutually exclusive to this gate clock.
Right now, it only handles the exclusive gate clocks which are defined
in a single hardware register, which is the case we're running into
today. But it can be extended to handle exclusive gate clocks defined
in different registers later if needed.

Currently csi_lcdif_sels[] is a shared array for the providing the possible
clock parents for csi and lcdif blocks.
This is not correct, as csi and lcdif do not share the same clock parents.
Introduce csi_sels[] for the csi and lcdif_axi_sels[] for the lcdif clocks in
order to describe the parents correctly.

At the end of the boot process, the clock framework might disable
required main PLL's. So far, this was no issue since drivers
requested clocks, which are descended of the main PLL's (e.g.
pll1_pfd1, which provides the system clock).
To archive the full 500MHz system clock, DDR clock need to be a
descendant of PLL2 rather than PLL1 (DDRC_CLK_SEL set to 0). The
bootloader sets up the clocks accordingly before making use of
DDR at all. However, in Linux, there is no driver using PLL2,
which lead to PLL2 being disabled by the clock framework.
With this patch, we make sure that the main system clock and the
DDR clock are initially enabled and are kept enabled.
