This patch moves the passive attribute to tz->device.groups. Moving the
passive attribute also requires a .is_visible() callback implementation
for its attribute group.
The logic behind the visibility of passive attribute is kept the same.
We only expose the passive attribute if the thermal driver has exposed
at least one passive trip point.

Thermal zones attributes are all being created using
device_create_file(). This has the disadvantage of making the code

This patch starts to move the thermal zone sysfs attributes to the

only moves those attributes are always present regardless of thermal

This change has also the advantage of cleaning up the thermal zone

Static family IDs have never really been used, the only
use case was the workaround I introduced for those users
that assumed their family ID was also their multicast
group ID.
Additionally, because static family IDs would never be
reserved by the generic netlink code, using a relatively
low ID would only work for built-in families that can be
registered immediately after generic netlink is started,
which is basically only the control family (apart from
the workaround code, which I also had to add code for so
it would reserve those IDs)
Thus, anything other than GENL_ID_GENERATE is flawed and
luckily not used except in the cases I mentioned. Move
those workarounds into a few lines of code, and then get
rid of GENL_ID_GENERATE entirely, making it more robust.

This adds support for hardware-tracked trip points to the device tree
thermal sensor framework.
The framework supports an arbitrary number of trip points. Whenever
the current temperature is updated, the trip points immediately
below and above the current temperature are found. A .set_trips
callback is then called with the temperatures. If there is no trip
point above or below the current temperature, the passed trip
temperature will be -INT_MAX or INT_MAX respectively. In this callback,
the driver should program the hardware such that it is notified
when either of these trip points are triggered. When a trip point
is triggered, the driver should call `thermal_zone_device_update'
for the respective thermal zone. This will cause the trip points
to be updated again.
If .set_trips is not implemented, the framework behaves as before.

The TSENS controller in 8996 family of SoCs is capable of converting the
ADC code outputs to real temperature values (in decidegree Celsius).
It can also be programmed to provide raw ADC code, but the secure software
on 8996 programs it to provide real temperatures and also does the needed
calibrations.
We check the valid bit to ensure valid data is read by the AHB master.
And the spec recommends the below algorithm to read data 3 consecutive
times, which takes care of the worst case delay taken to propagate the
updated data to the register.

8960 family of SoCs have the TSENS device as part of GCC, hence
the driver probes the virtual child device created by GCC and
uses the parent to extract all DT properties and reuses the GCC
regmap.
Also GCC/TSENS are part of a domain thats not always ON.
Hence add .suspend and .resume hooks to save and restore some of
the inited register context.
Also 8960 family have some of the TSENS init sequence thats
required to be done by the HLOS driver (some later versions of TSENS
do not export these registers to non-secure world, and hence need
these initializations to be done by secure bootloaders)
8660 from the same family has just one sensor and hence some register
offset/layout differences which need special handling in the driver.

TSENS is Qualcomms' thermal temperature sensor device. It
supports reading temperatures from multiple thermal sensors
present on various QCOM SoCs.
Calibration data is generally read from a non-volatile memory
(eeprom) device.
Add a skeleton driver with all the necessary abstractions so
a variety of qcom device families which support TSENS can
add driver extensions.
Also add the required device tree bindings which can be used
to describe the TSENS device in DT.

In case thermal_zone_xxx_register() returns an error, priv->zone
isn't NULL any more, but contains the error code.
This is passed to thermal_zone_device_unregister(), then. This checks
for priv->zone being NULL, but the error code is != NULL. So it works
with the error code as a pointer. Crashing immediately.
To fix this, reset priv->zone to NULL before entering

Currently all CPU cooling devices share a
`struct thermal_cooling_device_ops` instance. The thermal core uses the
presence of functions in this struct to determine if a cooling device
has a power model (see cdev_is_power_actor). cpu_cooling.c adds the
power model functions to the shared struct when a device is registered
with a power model.
Therefore, if a CPU cooling device is registered using
[of_]cpufreq_power_cooling_register, _all_ devices will be determined to
have a power model, including any registered with
[of_]cpufreq_cooling_register. This can result in cpufreq_state2power
being called on a device where dyn_power_table is NULL.
With this commit, instead of having a shared thermal_cooling_device_ops
which is mutated, we have two versions: one with the power functions and
one without.

When multiple thermal zones are bound to the same cooling device, multiple
kernel threads may want to update the cooling device state by calling
thermal_cdev_update(). Having cdev not protected by a mutex can lead to a race
condition. Consider the following situation with two kernel threads k1 and k2:
Thread k1 Thread k2
||
|| call thermal_cdev_update()
|| ...
|| set_cur_state(cdev, target);
call power_actor_set_power() ||
... ||
instance->target = state; ||
cdev->updated = false; ||
|| cdev->updated = true;
|| // completes execution
call thermal_cdev_update() ||
// cdev->updated == true ||
return; ||
\/
time
k2 has already looped through the thermal instances looking for the deepest
cooling device state and is preempted right before setting cdev->updated to
true. Now, k1 runs, modifies the thermal instance state and sets cdev->updated
to false. Then, k1 is preempted and k2 continues the execution by setting
cdev->updated to true, therefore preventing k1 from performing the update.
Notice that this is not an issue if k2 looks at the instance->target modified by
k1 "after" it is assigned by k1. In fact, in this case the update will happen
anyway and k1 can safely return immediately from thermal_cdev_update().
This may lead to a situation where a thermal governor never updates the cooling
device. For example, this is the case for the step_wise governor: when calling
the function thermal_zone_trip_update(), the governor may always get a new state
equal to the old one (which, however, wasn't notified to the cooling device) and
will therefore skip the update.

Most of the callers of cpufreq_frequency_get_table() already have the
pointer to a valid 'policy' structure and they don't really need to go
through the per-cpu variable first and then a check to validate the
frequency, in order to find the freq-table for the policy.
Directly use the policy->freq_table field instead for them.
Only one user of that API is left after above changes, cpu_cooling.c and
it accesses the freq_table in a racy way as the policy can get freed in

This warning is for IRQ imbalance enabling, which is caused by
enable_irq() twice. During sensor's initialization it tries to enable
IRQ, the driver will call thermal_zone_of_sensor_register() to bind
sensors and read sensor's temperature. But at this moment the flag
"data->irq_enabled" has been not initialized as correct state, so it
finally introduces the function enabled_irq() to be called twice. In
essentially this is caused by the flag "data->irq_enabled" is
inconsistent with real hardware IRQ enabling state.
So this patch is to fix this issue, firstly init "irq_enabled" flag
before binding sensors to thermal zone. Also change to use the function
irq_get_irqchip_state() to read back real interrupt line state.

When performing a suspend operation, the kernel brings all of the
non-boot CPUs offline, calling the hot plug notifiers with the flag,
CPU_TASKS_FROZEN, set in the action code. Similarly, during resume,
the CPUs are brought back online, but again the notifiers have the
FROZEN flag set.
While some very few drivers really need to treat suspend/resume
specially, this driver unintentionally ignores the notifications.
This patch changes the driver to cancel its work item when the CPU
goes down, even during a suspend operation. As a result, the
suspended state is no longer a special case.

Bang-bang thermal governor uses trip point hysteresis to make decisions.
Hysteresis is a required property in the device tree for trip points, but it is
an optional thermal zone device operation. Hence, we need to check whether the
function pointer is valid or not.
If it is not available, we assume the hysteresis to be zero. Consequently, a
highly varying temperature will make the governor continuosly switch a cooling
device ON and OFF.

When calculate temperature, old code firstly do division and then
convert to "millicelsius" unit. This will lose resolution and only can
read back temperature with "Celsius" unit.
So firstly scale step value to "millicelsius" and then do division, so
finally we can increase resolution for temperature value. Also refine

functions and that is not inlined, at least with gcc version 4.8.4 on an

.text.unlikely segment. Declaring it as __init will cause it to be put in
the .init.text and to disappear after initialization.
The result of objdump -x on the function before the change is as follows:
0000000000000086 l F .text.unlikely 0000000000000739 thermal_of_build_thermal_zone
And after the change it is as follows:

Thermal: initialize thermal zone device correctly
After thermal zone device registered, as we have not read any
temperature before, thus tz->temperature should not be 0,
which actually means 0C, and thermal trend is not available.
In this case, we need specially handling for the first
thermal_zone_device_update().
Both thermal core framework and step_wise governor is
enhanced to handle this. And since the step_wise governor
is the only one that uses trends, so it's the only thermal
governor that needs to be updated.

The driver doesn't check if the regulator_get_optional return value is
-EPROBE_DEFER so it will wrongly assume that the regulator couldn't be
found just because the regulator driver wasn't registered yet, i.e:
exynos-tmu 10060000.tmu: Regulator node (vtmu) not found
In this case the return value should be propagated to allow the driver
probe function to be deferred until the regulator driver is registered.

The Exynos TMU DT binding says that the vtmu-supply is optional but the
driver uses devm_regulator_get() that creates a dummy regulator if it's
not defined in the DT. For example the following message is in the log:
10060000.tmu supply vtmu not found, using dummy regulator
Use the optional version of regulator_get() that doesn't create a dummy
regulator and instead returns a -ENODEV errno code. Since it's expected
that a regulator may not be defined and the driver will inform about it:

When DeviveTree contains more trip-points than SoC can configure
(usually more than four) and polling mode is not enabled, then the
remaining trip-points will be silently ignored. No interrupts will be
generated for them.
This might be quite dangerous when one provides DTB with a
non-configurable critical trip-point, like (assuming four supported
thresholds in TMU):
- alert @50 C (type: active),
- alert @60 C (type: active),
- alert @70 C (type: active),
- alert @80 C (type: active),
- critical @120 C (type: critical) <- no interrupts generated.
This is a mistake in DTB so print a message in such case.
