online filesystem repair and refactor the growfs code in preparation
for eventual subvolume support, though the road ahead for both
features is quite long.
There are also numerous refactorings of the iomap code to remove
unnecessary log overhead, to disentangle some of the quota code, and
to prepare for buffer head removal in a future upstream kernel.
Metadata validation continues to improve, both in the hot path
veifiers and the online filesystem check code. I anticipate sending a
second pull request in a few days with more metadata validation

It is insufficient to flush dirty pages in the page cache because that
won't necessarily result in filesystems pushing all their metadata out

It seems Ronnie's preamble removal broke signing.
the signing functions are called when:
A) we send a request (to sign it)
B) when we recv a response (to check the signature).
On code path A, the smb2 header is in iov[1] but on code path B, the
smb2 header is in iov[0] (and there's only one vector).
So we have different iov indexes for the smb2 header but the signing
function always use index 1. Fix this by checking the nb of io vectors

There is a hole that mm can flush all dirty pages of volatile file as
inode is not tagged with both FI_VOLATILE_FILE and FI_DROP_CACHE flags,
we should never writeback the page #0 and also it's unneeded to writeback
other pages.
This patch adjusts to relocate clear_inode_flag(FI_VOLATILE_FILE), so that
FI_VOLATILE_FILE flag can be remained before all dirty pages were dropped
to avoid issue.

Although mixed sync/async IOs can have continuous LBA, as they have
different IO priority, block IO scheduler will add them into different
queues and commit them separately, result in splited IOs which causes
wrose performance.
This patch gives high priority to synchronous IO of nodes, means that
once synchronous flow starts, it can interrupt asynchronous writeback
flow of system flusher, so more big IOs can be expected.

Sometimes an in-progress call will stop responding on the fileserver when
the fileserver quietly cancels the call with an internally marked abort
(RX_CALL_DEAD), without sending an ABORT to the client.
This causes the client's call to eventually expire from lack of incoming
packets directed its way, which currently leads to it being cancelled
locally with ETIME. Note that it's not currently clear as to why this
happens as it's really hard to reproduce.
The rotation policy implement by kAFS, however, doesn't differentiate
between ETIME meaning we didn't get any response from the server and ETIME
meaning the call got cancelled mid-flow. The latter leads to an oops when
fetching data as the rotation partially resets the afs_read descriptor,
which can result in a cleared page pointer being dereferenced because that
page has already been filled.
Handle this by the following means:
(1) Set a flag on a call when we receive a packet for it.
(2) Store the highest packet serial number so far received for a call
(bearing in mind this may wrap).
(3) If, when the "not received anything recently" timeout expires on a
call, we've received at least one packet for a call and the connection
as a whole has received packets more recently than that call, then
cancel the call locally with ECONNRESET rather than ETIME.
This indicates that the call was definitely in progress on the server.
(4) In kAFS, if the rotation algorithm sees ECONNRESET rather than ETIME,
don't try the next server, but rather abort the call.
This avoids the oops as we don't try to reuse the afs_read struct.
Rather, as-yet ungotten pages will be reread at a later data.
Also:
(5) Add an rxrpc tracepoint to log detection of the call being reset.
Without this, I occasionally see an oops like the following:

This behaviour has recently changed in the fuse client, as some

Clean up gfs2_iomap_alloc and gfs2_iomap_get. Document how
gfs2_iomap_alloc works: it now needs to be called separately after
gfs2_iomap_get where necessary; this will be used later by iomap write.
Move gfs2_iomap_ops into bmap.c.
Introduce a new gfs2_iomap_get_alloc helper and use it in
fallocate_chunk: gfs2_iomap_begin will become unsuitable for fallocate
with proper iomap write support.

In journaled data mode, we need to add each buffer head to the current
transaction. In ordered write mode, we only need to add the inode to
the ordered inode list. So far, both cases are handled in
gfs2_trans_add_data. This makes the code look misleading and is
inefficient for small block sizes as well. Handle both cases separately

Reimplement function hole_size based on a generic function for walking
the metadata tree and rename hole_size to gfs2_hole_size. While
previously, multiple invocations of hole_size were sometimes needed to
walk across the entire hole, the new implementation always returns the

Function gfs2_free_extlen calculates the length of an extent of
free blocks that may be reserved. The end pointer was calculated as
end = start + bh->b_size but b_size is incorrect because the
bitmap usually stops prior to the end of the buffer data on
the last bitmap.
What this means is that when you do a write, you can reserve a
chunk of blocks that runs off the end of the last bitmap. For
example, I've got a file system where there is only one bitmap
for each rgrp, so ri_length==1. I saw cases in which iozone
tried to do a big write, grabbed a large block reservation,
chose rgrp 5464152, which has ri_data0 5464153 and ri_data 8188.
So 5464153 + 8188 = 5472341 which is the end of the rgrp.
When it grabbed a reservation it got back: 5470936, length 7229.
But 5470936 + 7229 = 5478165. So the reservation starts inside
the rgrp but runs 5824 blocks past the end of the bitmap.
This patch fixes the calculation so it won't exceed the last
bitmap. It also adds a BUG_ON to guard against overflows in the
future.

Before this patch function gfs2_write_begin, upon discovering an
error, called gfs2_trim_blocks while the rgrp glock was still held.
That's because gfs2_inplace_release is not called until later.
This patch reorganizes the logic a bit so gfs2_inplace_release
is called to release the lock prior to the call to gfs2_trim_blocks,
thus preventing the glock recursion.

- fix io_destroy()/aio_complete() race
- the vfs_open() change to get rid of open_check_o_direct() boilerplate

* 'fixes' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs:
Revert "fs: fold open_check_o_direct into do_dentry_open"
fix io_destroy()/aio_complete() race
This reverts commit cab64df194.
Having vfs_open() in some cases drop the reference to
struct file combined with
error = vfs_open(path, f, cred);
if (error) {
put_filp(f);
return ERR_PTR(error);
}
return f;
is flat-out wrong. It used to be
error = vfs_open(path, f, cred);
if (!error) {
/* from now on we need fput() to dispose of f */
error = open_check_o_direct(f);
if (error) {
fput(f);
f = ERR_PTR(error);
}
} else {
put_filp(f);
f = ERR_PTR(error);
}
and sure, having that open_check_o_direct() boilerplate gotten rid of is
nice, but not that way...
Worse, another call chain (via finish_open()) is FUBAR now wrt
FILE_OPENED handling - in that case we get error returned, with file
already hit by fput() *AND* FILE_OPENED not set. Guess what happens in
path_openat(), when it hits
if (!(opened & FILE_OPENED)) {
BUG_ON(!error);
put_filp(file);
}
The root cause of all that crap is that the callers of do_dentry_open()
have no way to tell which way did it fail; while that could be fixed up
(by passing something like int *opened to do_dentry_open() and have it
marked if we'd called ->open()), it's probably much too late in the
cycle to do so right now.

As long as a symlink inode remains in-core, the destination (and
therefore size) will not be re-fetched from the server, as it cannot
change. The original implementation of the attribute cache assumed that
setting the expiry time in the past was sufficient to cause a re-fetch
of all attributes on the next getattr. That does not work in this case.
The bug manifested itself as follows. When the command sequence
touch foo; ln -s foo bar; ls -l bar
is run, the output was
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 fedora fedora 4906 Apr 24 19:10 bar -> foo
However, after a re-mount, ls -l bar produces
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 fedora fedora 3 Apr 24 19:10 bar -> foo
After this commit, even before a re-mount, the output is
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 fedora fedora 3 Apr 24 19:10 bar -> foo

past the end of the in-core inode lifecycle and causing EIO errors to
be reported to userspace when no error has occurred.

fs: clear writeback errors in inode_init_always
If the server recalls the layout that was just handed out, we risk hitting
a race as described in RFC5661 Section 2.10.6.3 unless we ensure that we

was sent as part of the OPEN compound.

Ensure that we only switch off the LAYOUTGET operation in the OPEN

We need to ensure that pnfs_parse_lgopen() doesn't try to parse a
struct nfs4_layoutget_res that was not filled by a successful call
to decode_layoutget(). This can happen if we performed a cached open,
or if either the OP_ACCESS or OP_GETATTR operations preceding the
OP_LAYOUTGET in the compound returned an error.
By initialising the 'status' field to NFS4ERR_DELAY, we ensure that
pnfs_parse_lgopen() won't try to interpret the structure.

In nfs_idmap_read_and_verify_message there is an incorrect sprintf '%d'
that converts the __u32 'im_id' from struct idmap_msg to 'id_str', which
is a stack char array variable of length NFS_UINT_MAXLEN == 11.
If a uid or gid value is > 2147483647 = 0x7fffffff, the conversion
overflows into a negative value, for example:
crash> p (unsigned) (0x80000000)
$1 = 2147483648
crash> p (signed) (0x80000000)
$2 = -2147483648

There are three places that walk all delegation for an nfs_client and
restart whenever they find something interesting - potentially
resulting in a quadratic search: If there are 10,000 uninteresting
delegations followed by 10,000 interesting one, then the code
skips over 100,000,000 delegations, which can take a noticeable amount
of time.
Of these nfs_delegation_reap_unclaimed() and
nfs_reap_expired_delegations() are only called during unusual events:
a server reboots or reports expired delegations, probably due to a
network partition. Optimizing these is not particularly important.
The third, nfs_client_return_marked_delegations(), is called
periodically via nfs_expire_unreferenced_delegations(). It could
cause periodic problems on a busy server.
New delegations are added to the end of the list, so if there are
10,000 open files with delegations, and 10,000 more recently opened files
that received delegations but are now closed, then
nfs_client_return_marked_delegations() can take seconds to skip over
the 10,000 open files 10,000 times. That is a waste of time.
The avoid this waste a place-holder (an inode) is kept when locks are
dropped, so that the place can usually be found again after taking
rcu_readlock(). This place holder ensure that we find the right
starting point in the list of nfs_servers, and makes is probable that
we find the right starting point in the list of delegations.
We might need to occasionally restart at the head of that list.
It might be possible that the place_holder inode could lose its
delegation separately, and then get a new one using the same (freed
and then reallocated) 'struct nfs_delegation'. Were this to happen,
the new delegation would be at the end of the list and we would miss
returning some other delegations. This would have the effect of
unnecessarily delaying the return of some unused delegations until the
next time this function is called - typically 90 seconds later. As
this is not a correctness issue and is vanishingly unlikely to happen,
it does not seem worth addressing.

In three places we walk the list of delegations for an nfs_client
until an interesting one is found, then we act of that delegation
and restart the walk.
New delegations are added to the end of a list and the interesting
delegations are usually old, so in many case we won't repeat
a long walk over and over again, but it is possible - particularly if
the first server in the list has a large number of uninteresting
delegations.
In each cache the work done on interesting delegations will often
complete without sleeping, so this could loop many times without
giving up the CPU.
So add a cond_resched() at an appropriate point to avoid hogging the
CPU for too long.

There are 3 places where we walk the list of delegations
for an nfs_client.
In each case there are two nested loops, one for nfs_servers
and one for nfs_delegations.
When we find an interesting delegation we try to get an active
reference to the server. If that fails, it is pointless to
continue to look at the other delegation for the server as
we will never be able to get an active reference.
So instead of continuing in the inner loop, break out
and continue in the outer loop.

As Ted reported:
"Hi, I was looking at f2fs's sources recently, and I noticed that there
is a very large number of non-static symbols which don't have a f2fs
prefix. There's well over a hundred (see attached below).
As one example, in fs/f2fs/dir.c there is:
unsigned char get_de_type(struct f2fs_dir_entry *de)
This function is clearly only useful for f2fs, but it has a generic
name. This means that if any other file system tries to have the same
symbol name, there will be a symbol conflict and the kernel would not
successfully build. It also means that when someone is looking f2fs
sources, it's not at all obvious whether a function such as
read_data_page(), invalidate_blocks(), is a generic kernel function
found in the fs, mm, or block layers, or a f2fs specific function.
You might want to fix this at some point. Hopefully Kent's bcachefs
isn't similarly using genericly named functions, since that might
cause conflicts with f2fs's functions --- but just as this would be a
problem that we would rightly insist that Kent fix, this is something
that we should have rightly insisted that f2fs should have fixed
before it was integrated into the mainline kernel.

f2fs doesn't allow abuse on atomic write class interface, so except
limiting in-mem pages' total memory usage capacity, we need to limit
atomic-write usage as well when filesystem is seriously fragmented,
otherwise we may run into infinite loop during foreground GC because
target blocks in victim segment are belong to atomic opened file for
long time.
Now, we will detect failure due to atomic write in foreground GC, if
the count exceeds threshold, we will drop all atomic written data in
cache, by this, I expect it can keep our system running safely to
prevent Dos attack.
In addition, his patch adds to show GC skip information in debugfs,

All section usage: 85% 85% 85% 85% 90% 90% 95% 95% 95% 95%
During foreground GC, if we skip select dirty section whose usage
