# Note on deprecations
A tick-tock release cycle allows easy migration to new software versions.
Obsolete Gazebo code is marked as deprecated for one major release.
Deprecated code produces compile-time warnings. These warning serve as
notification to users that their code should be upgraded. The next major
release will remove the deprecated code.
## Gazebo 7.10.0 to 7.X
### Modifications
1. Shadows ambient factor has been reduced - they will now appear darker than before. Also increased shadow texture resolution and reduced effect of jagged shadow edges.

## Gazebo 7.9.0 to 7.X
### Modifications
1. **gazebo/physics/ode/ODEPhysics.cc**
`ODEPhysics::Collide` combines surface slip parameters with a sum
instead of `std::min`.

## Gazebo 7.8.0 to 7.X
### Modifications
1. **gz log**
Gazebo log files no longer store velocity data and have reduced floating point precision.

The custom inner xml inside visual plugins used to be wrapped in an extra
<sdf> tag. Now the inner xml should be accessed directly from the plugin's
sdf. For example, for the following plugin:
<visual ...>
<plugin ...>
<param>true</param>
</plugin>
</visual>
<param> should be accessed with:
auto param = _sdf->GetElement("param");
The old behaviour is still supported on Gazebo7, that is:
auto param = _sdf->GetElement("sdf")->GetElement("param");
but this behaviour will be removed on Gazebo8.

### C++11 compiler required
Gazebo 5.x uses features from the new c++11 standard. This requires to have a compatible c++11 compiler. Note that some platforms (like Ubuntu Precise) do not include one by default.
