Paul Mundt 21264136ce sh64: Trivial build fixes.
While we've been sorting out the toolchain fiasco, some of
the code has suffered a bit of bitrot. Building with GCC4
also brings up some more build warnings. Trivial fixes for
both issues.

Marc Zyngier 0f4184f73d [SERIAL] sunsab: Fix E250 console with RSC.
This fixes yet another sunsab problem, when console is set to anything
but the first port. The console framework calls sunsab_console_setup
for each port, and we end up setting up a console on a not yet
discovered port, which leads to an Oops. Instead, defer console setup
until the requested port is properly initialized. Tested on an E250
through an RSC console.

David S. Miller 91d1ed1a6d [SERIAL] sunsu: Handle keyboard and mouse ports directly.
The sunsu_ports[] array exists merely to be able to easily
use an integer index to get at the proper serial console
port struct.

We size this only for real ports, not for the keyboard and
mouse, and thus keyboard and mouse port registration would
fail.

Fix this by dynamically allocating the port struct for the
keyboard and mouse, instead of using the sunsu_ports[]
array.

Zang Roy-r61911 3be91ec738 [SERIAL] 8250: add tsi108 serial support
The following patch gets rid of CONFIG_TSI108_BRIDGE. I add UPIO_TSI to
handle IIR and IER register in serial_in and serial_out.

(1) the reason to rewrite serial_in:

TSI108 rev Z1 version ERRATA. Reading the UART's Interrupt
Identification Register (IIR) clears the Transmit Holding Register
Empty (THRE) and Transmit buffer Empty (TEMP) interrupts even if they
are not enabled in the Interrupt Enable Register (IER). This leads to
loss of the interrupts. Interrupts are not cleared when reading UART
    registers as 32-bit word.

(2) the reason to rewrite serial_out:

Check for UART_IER_UUE bit in the autoconfig routine. This section
of autoconfig is excluded for Tsi108/109 because bits 7 and 6 are
reserved for internal use. They are R/W bits. In addition to
incorrect identification, changing these bits (from 00) will make
    Tsi108/109 UART non-functional.

Julien BLACHE c65b15cfd6 [SERIAL] IP22: fix serial console hangs
The patch below fixes serial console hangs as seen on IP22
machines. Typically, while booting, the machine hangs for ~1 minute
displaying "INIT: ", then the same thing happens again when init
enters in the designated runlevel and finally the getty process on
ttyS0 hangs indefinitely (though strace'ing it helps).

strace (-e raw=ioctl, otherwise the ioctl() translation is utterly
bogus) reveals that getty hangs on ioctl() 0x540f which happens to be
TCSETSW (I saw it hang on another console ioctl() but couldn't
reproduce that one).

A diff between ip22zilog and sunzilog revealed the following
differences:
 1. the channel A flag being set on up.port.flags instead of up.flags
 2. the channel A flag being set on what is marked as being channel B
 3. sunzilog has a call to uart_update_timeout(port, termios->c_cflag, baud);
at the end of sunzilog_set_termios(), which ip22zilog lacks (on
    purpose ?)

The patch below addresses point 1 and fixes the serial console hangs
just fine. However point 2 should be investigated by someone familiar
with the IP22 Zilog; it's probably OK as is but even if it is, a
comment in ip22zilog.c is badly needed.

Point 3 is left as an exercise for whoever feels like digging into
ip22zilog :)

These are the main obvious differences between ip22zilog and
sunzilog. Newer versions of sunzilog (Linus's git tree as of today)
are more close to ip22zilog as the sbus_{write,read}b have been
changed into simple {write, read}b, which shrinks the diff by a fair
amount. Resyncing both drivers should be doable in a few hours time
now for someone familiar with the IP22 Zilog hardware.

Bjorn Helgaas cb6358eb69 [PATCH] SERIAL: allow shared 8250_pnp interrupts
PNP devices can use shared interrupts, so check to see whether we'll need
SA_SHIRQ for request_irq().

The builtin PDH UART on the HP rx8640 is an example of an ACPI/PNP device
that uses a shareable level-triggered, active-low interrupt. The interrupt
can be shared in very large I/O configurations or by artificially lowering
IA64_DEF_LAST_DEVICE_VECTOR.

Benjamin Herrenschmidt 0ebfff1491 [POWERPC] Add new interrupt mapping core and change platforms to use it
This adds the new irq remapper core and removes the old one. Because
there are some fundamental conflicts with the old code, like the value
of NO_IRQ which I'm now setting to 0 (as per discussions with Linus),
etc..., this commit also changes the relevant platform and driver code
over to use the new remapper (so as not to cause difficulties later
in bisecting).

This patch removes the old pre-parsing of the open firmware interrupt
tree along with all the bogus assumptions it made to try to renumber
interrupts according to the platform. This is all to be handled by the
new code now.

For the pSeries XICS interrupt controller, a single remapper host is
created for the whole machine regardless of how many interrupt
presentation and source controllers are found, and it's set to match
any device node that isn't a 8259. That works fine on pSeries and
avoids having to deal with some of the complexities of split source
controllers vs. presentation controllers in the pSeries device trees.

The powerpc i8259 PIC driver now always requests the legacy interrupt
range. It also has the feature of being able to match any device node
(including NULL) if passed no device node as an input. That will help
porting over platforms with broken device-trees like Pegasos who don't
have a proper interrupt tree.

Paul Fulghum 817d6d3bce [PATCH] remove TTY_DONT_FLIP
Remove TTY_DONT_FLIP tty flag. This flag was introduced in 2.1.X kernels
to prevent the N_TTY line discipline functions read_chan() and
n_tty_receive_buf() from running at the same time. 2.2.15 introduced
tty->read_lock to protect access to the N_TTY read buffer, which is the
only state requiring protection between these two functions.

The current TTY_DONT_FLIP implementation is broken for SMP, and is not
universally honored by drivers that send data directly to the line
discipline receive_buf function.

Because TTY_DONT_FLIP is not necessary, is broken in implementation, and is
not universally honored, it is removed.

David S. Miller c6387a48cf [SPARC]: Kill __irq_itoa().
This ugly hack was long overdue to die.

It was a way to print out Sparc interrupts in a more freindly format,
since IRQ numbers were arbitrary opaque 32-bit integers which vectored
into PIL levels. These 32-bit integers were not necessarily in the
0-->NR_IRQS range, but the PILs they vectored to were.

The idea now is that we will increase NR_IRQS a little bit and use a
virtual<-->real IRQ number mapping scheme similar to PowerPC.

That makes this IRQ printing hack irrelevant, and furthermore only a
handful of drivers actually used __irq_itoa() making it even less
useful.

1. Conversion to a platform_driver. [Ivan Kokshaysky]
2. Replaced all references to AT91RM9200 with AT91. This driver can now

3. Allow TIOCM_LOOP to configure local loopback mode.
4. Cleaned up the 'read_status_mask' usage and interrupt handler code.

Russell King a88d75b257 [SERIAL] Remove unconditional enable of TX irq for console
A bug report from Gerd Hoffmann has highlighted that unconditionally
enabling the transmit interrupt at the end of console writes is very
bad.

In Gerd's case, it causes the test for buggy UARTs to give false
positives, incorrectly identifying ports as buggy when they are not.

Moreover, if we unconditionally enable the interrupt, and the port
is sharing it's interrupt with other ports, there is the very real
possibility that we'll cause an interrupt storm. (Not all ports use
OUT2 as an interrupt mask.)

Hence, revert part of f91a3715db and
all of f5968b37b3 until a better solution

doesn't claim UART memory ranges and uses wrong (KSEG1-based) UART
addresses instead of the physical ones.

The locking for the uart_port is over complicated, and can be
simplified if we introduce a flag to indicate that a port is "dead"

This also helps the validator because it removes a case of non-nested

Petr Vandrovec 30bac7aa0e [PATCH] pcmcia: Add support for Possio GCC AKA PCMCIA Siemens MC45
This ugly hack add support for Siemens MC45 PCMCIA GPRS card (which is
identical to Possio GCC, and which is offered by one of our local GPRS
providers). Card has unfortunate feature that after poweron oxcf950 chip
is fully powered and works, but attached MC45 modem is powered down :-(
There is a special sequence (which takes 1 sec :-( ) to poweron MC45 (and
after MC45 powers on, it takes more than 2 secs until firmware fully
boots...) which needs to be executed after all powerons.

I'm really not familiar with PCMCIA subsystem, so I have no idea whether I
should issue request_region() on rest of oxcf950 address range (0-7 is
UART, 8-F are special configuration registers), or how this should be
better integrated with PM system and so on - I just put it in same place
where another hack already lived...

Card uses 18.432MHz XTAL, so to get it to work you must add lines below to
the /etc/pcmcia/serial.opts.

case "$MANFID-$FUNCID-$PRODID_1-$PRODID_2-$PRODID_3-$PRODID_4" in
'030c,0003-2-GPRS-CARD--')

Bjorn Helgaas e51c01b084 [PATCH] hp300: fix driver_register() return handling, remove dio_module_init()
Remove the assumption that driver_register() returns the number of devices
bound to the driver. In fact, it returns zero for success or a negative
error value.

dio_module_init() used the device count to automatically unregister and
unload drivers that found no devices. That might have worked at one time,
but has been broken for some time because dio_register_driver() returned
either a negative error or a positive count (never zero). So it could only
unregister on failure, when it's not needed anyway.

This functionality could be resurrected in individual drivers by counting
devices in their .probe() methods.

Because we play this trick where we use ttyS? in increasing minor

Atsushi Nemoto 9c0f4755bd [SERIAL] initialize spinlock for port failed to setup console
It seems serial_core intend to initialize port->lock just once for each
ports. This is done in uart_set_options() for console, and in
uart_add_one_port() for other ports. But there is a case the port->lock is
not initialized by serial_core. If the setup function for the console was
failed, it will not call uart_set_options() but the port is marked as
console (uart_console(port) returns 1). It can happen if console was PCI
port which can not detected at the time of register_console.

This patch is to initialize port->lock for such console port. With this
change, most of spin_lock_init() (some of them are labeled "Temporary
fix.") in low-level serial drivers can be omitted.

Alan Cox f91a3715db [SERIAL] 8250 serial console fixes
This patch resolves most of the problems with an SMP serial console race
with output via the tty path. At the end of the serial console print we
force enable the tx int in case we clobbered the tx interrupt status
racing between the console and tty output. That way the extra tx
interrupt causes the transmit path to restart not hang.

It also makes the serial console printk use the FIFO. This is neccessary
because some remote management devices fake serial console with FIFO and
are confused into sending one packet per character over ethernet when we
stall rather than filling the FIFO.

In order to preserve existing reliability semantics the function waits
for the serial queue to completely empty before returning.

Both of these problems were identified by a Red Hat partner.

	0700: 6666:0004 (rev 02) (prog-if 02)
	Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 177
	Memory at fe000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128]
	I/O ports at e880 [size=128]
	I/O ports at e400 [size=256]

It has two 16550A, and is not listed in kernel, although the
manufacturer clams that it is supported...

I've created the following patch, it only add the new PCI id and the
card to the repository, it seems to work.

Alan Cox 33f0f88f1c [PATCH] TTY layer buffering revamp
The API and code have been through various bits of initial review by
serial driver people but they definitely need to live somewhere for a
while so the unconverted drivers can get knocked into shape, existing
drivers that have been updated can be better tuned and bugs whacked out.

This replaces the tty flip buffers with kmalloc objects in rings. In the
normal situation for an IRQ driven serial port at typical speeds the
behaviour is pretty much the same, two buffers end up allocated and the
kernel cycles between them as before.

When there are delays or at high speed we now behave far better as the
buffer pool can grow a bit rather than lose characters. This also means
that we can operate at higher speeds reliably.

For drivers that receive characters in blocks (DMA based, USB and
especially virtualisation) the layer allows a lot of driver specific
code that works around the tty layer with private secondary queues to be
removed. The IBM folks need this sort of layer, the smart serial port
people do, the virtualisers do (because a virtualised tty typically
operates at infinite speed rather than emulating 9600 baud).

Finally many drivers had invalid and unsafe attempts to avoid buffer
overflows by directly invoking tty methods extracted out of the innards
of work queue structs. These are no longer needed and all go away. That
fixes various random hangs with serial ports on overflow.

The other change in here is to optimise the receive_room path that is
used by some callers. It turns out that only one ldisc uses receive room
except asa constant and it updates it far far less than the value is
read. We thus make it a variable not a function call.

I expect the code to contain bugs due to the size alone but I'll be
watching and squashing them and feeding out new patches as it goes.

Because the buffers now dynamically expand you should only run out of
buffering when the kernel runs out of memory for real. That means a lot of
the horrible hacks high performance drivers used to do just aren't needed any
more.

Description:

tty_insert_flip_char is an old API and continues to work as before, as does
tty_flip_buffer_push() [this is why many drivers dont need modification]. It
does now also return the number of chars inserted

There are also

tty_buffer_request_room(tty, len)

which asks for a buffer block of the length requested and returns the space
found. This improves efficiency with hardware that knows how much to
transfer.

and tty_insert_flip_string_flags(tty, str, flags, len)

to insert a string of characters and flags

For a smart interface the usual code is

    len = tty_request_buffer_room(tty, amount_hardware_says);
    tty_insert_flip_string(tty, buffer_from_card, len);

More description!

At the moment tty buffers are attached directly to the tty. This is causing a
lot of the problems related to tty layer locking, also problems at high speed
and also with bursty data (such as occurs in virtualised environments)

I'm working on ripping out the flip buffers and replacing them with a pool of
dynamically allocated buffers. This allows both for old style "byte I/O"
devices and also helps virtualisation and smart devices where large blocks of
data suddenely materialise and need storing.

So far so good. Lots of drivers reference tty->flip.*. Several of them also
call directly and unsafely into function pointers it provides. This will all
break. Most drivers can use tty_insert_flip_char which can be kept as an API
but others need more.

At the moment I've added the following interfaces, if people think more will
be needed now is a good time to say

 int tty_buffer_request_room(tty, size)

Try and ensure at least size bytes are available, returns actual room (may be
zero). At the moment it just uses the flipbuf space but that will change.
Repeated calls without characters being added are not cumulative. (ie if you
call it with 1, 1, 1, and then 4 you'll have four characters of space. The
other functions will also try and grow buffers in future but this will be a
more efficient way when you know block sizes.

 int tty_insert_flip_char(tty, ch, flag)

As before insert a character if there is room. Now returns 1 for success, 0
for failure.

 int tty_insert_flip_string(tty, str, len)

Insert a block of non error characters. Returns the number inserted.

 int tty_prepare_flip_string(tty, strptr, len)

Adjust the buffer to allow len characters to be added. Returns a buffer
pointer in strptr and the length available. This allows for hardware that
needs to use functions like insl or mencpy_fromio.

a easy way to reproduce it is log into the system using ssh and do:

produce the oops

this happens because uart_close calls uart_shutdown which frees xmit.buf,
currently used by xchar sending in cpm_uart_tx_pump(), which seems wrong.

the attached patch fixes the oops and also fixes xchar sending.

Dominik Brodowski f8cfa618dc [PATCH] pcmcia: unify attach, EVENT_CARD_INSERTION handlers into one probe callback
Unify the EVENT_CARD_INSERTION and "attach" callbacks to one unified
probe() callback. As all in-kernel drivers are changed to this new
callback, there will be no temporary backwards-compatibility. Inside a
probe() function, each driver _must_ set struct pcmcia_device
*p_dev->instance and instance->handle correctly.

With these patches, the basic driver interface for 16-bit PCMCIA drivers
now has the classic four callbacks known also from other buses:

        int (*probe)            (struct pcmcia_device *dev);
        void (*remove)          (struct pcmcia_device *dev);

Bob Moore 50eca3eb89 [ACPI] ACPICA 20050930
Completed a major overhaul of the Resource Manager code -
specifically, optimizations in the area of the AML/internal
resource conversion code. The code has been optimized to
simplify and eliminate duplicated code, CPU stack use has
been decreased by optimizing function parameters and local
variables, and naming conventions across the manager have
been standardized for clarity and ease of maintenance (this
includes function, parameter, variable, and struct/typedef
names.)

All Resource Manager dispatch and information tables have
been moved to a single location for clarity and ease of
maintenance. One new file was created, named "rsinfo.c".

The ACPI return macros (return_ACPI_STATUS, etc.) have
been modified to guarantee that the argument is
not evaluated twice, making them less prone to macro
side-effects. However, since there exists the possibility
of additional stack use if a particular compiler cannot
optimize them (such as in the debug generation case),
the original macros are optionally available. Note that
some invocations of the return_VALUE macro may now cause
size mismatch warnings; the return_UINT8 and return_UINT32
macros are provided to eliminate these. (From Randy Dunlap)

Implemented a new mechanism to enable debug tracing for
individual control methods. A new external interface,
acpi_debug_trace(), is provided to enable this mechanism. The
intent is to allow the host OS to easily enable and disable
tracing for problematic control methods. This interface
can be easily exposed to a user or debugger interface if
desired. See the file psxface.c for details.

acpi_ut_callocate() will now return a valid pointer if a
length of zero is specified - a length of one is used
and a warning is issued. This matches the behavior of
acpi_ut_allocate().

Ryan Bradetich a137ce8536 [PARISC] Define port->timeout to fix a long msleep in mux.c
This commit is in response to a bug reported by Vesa on the irc channel
a couple of weeks ago.

The bug was that the console would apparently hang (not return) while
using the mux console.

The root cause of this bug is that bash (with readline support) makes a
call to the tcsetattr() glibc function with the argument TCSADRAIN. This
causes the serial core in the kernel use the uart_wait_until_sent() to be
called. This function verifies the mux transmit queue is empty or calls the
msleep_interruptable() with a calculated timeout value that is dependant
upon the port->timeout variable.

The real problem here is that the port->timeout was not defined so it
was defaulted to 0 and the timeout calculation performs the following
calculation:

char_time = (port->timeout - HZ/50) / port->fifosize;

where char_time is an unsigned long. Since the serial Mux does not use
interrupts, the msleep_interruptable() function waits until the timeout
has been reached ... and when the port->timeout < HZ/50 this timeout will
be a long time. (I have validated that the console will eventually
return ... but it takes quite a while for this to happen).

This patch simply sets the port->timeout on the Mux to HZ/50 to avoid
this long timeout period.

Lennert Buytenhek 5c8c755ce5 [SERIAL] don't disable xscale serial ports after autoconfig
xscale-type UARTs have an extra bit (UUE) in the IER register that has
to be written as 1 to enable the UART. At the end of autoconfig() in
drivers/serial/8250.c, the IER register is unconditionally written as
zero, which turns off the UART, and makes any subsequent printch() hang
the box.

Since other 8250-type UARTs don't have this enable bit and are thus
always 'enabled' in this sense, it can't hurt to enable xscale-type
serial ports all the time as well. The attached patch changes the
autoconfig() exit path to see if the port has an UUE enable bit, and if
yes, to write UUE=1 instead of just putting a zero into IER, using the
same test as is used at the beginning of serial8250_console_write().

In PM v1, all devices were called at SUSPEND_DISABLE level. Then
all devices were called at SUSPEND_SAVE_STATE level, and finally

compatibility for platform devices, I arranged for the PM v2
suspend/resume callbacks to call the old PM v1 suspend/resume
callbacks three times with each level in order so that existing
drivers continued to work.

Lothar Wassmann e6158b4a56 [ARM] 3002/1: Wrong parameter to uart_update_timeout() in drivers/serial/pxa.c
Patch from Lothar Wassmann

The function serial_pxa_set_termios() is calling uart_update_timeout()
with the baud rate divisor as third parameter, while
uart_update_timeout() expects the baud rate in this place.
This results in a bogus port->timeout which is proportional to the
baud rate.

Brent Casavant d38e24e260 [PATCH] ioc4_serial: Remove bogus error message
This change removes a bogus error message from the IOC4 serial driver
interrupt handler.

This error message is bogus for two reasons. First, it can never occur
given that current code takes care to initialize IOC4 in such a way that
these "unknown" interrupts could never occur. Second, this code fails to
take into account that other drivers can share the IOC4 interrupt mechanism
through SA_SHIRQ, and thus this driver is not in-fact "all-knowing".

Finally, this error message triggers every time some "unknown" interrupt
occurs -- it's not rate limited or repetition limited in any way, thereby
effectively denying use of the console device. Given its bogosity in the
first place, it's best to just get rid of it entirely.

Russell King b129a8ccd5 [SERIAL] Clean up and fix tty transmission start/stoping
The start_tx and stop_tx methods were passed a flag to indicate
whether the start/stop was from the tty start/stop callbacks, and
some drivers used this flag to decide whether to ask the UART to
immediately stop transmission (where the UART supports such a
feature.)

There are other cases when we wish this to occur - when CTS is
lowered, or if we change from soft to hard flow control and CTS
is inactive. In these cases, this flag was false, and we would
allow the transmitter to drain before stopping.

There is really only one case where we want to let the transmitter
drain before disabling, and that's when we run out of characters
to send.

Hence, re-jig the start_tx and stop_tx methods to eliminate this
flag, and introduce new functions for the special "disable and
allow transmitter to drain" case.
