Amerigo Wang 226528c610 [CPUFREQ] unexport (un)lock_policy_rwsem* functions
lock_policy_rwsem_* and unlock_policy_rwsem_* functions are scheduled
to be unexported when 2.6.33. Now there are no other callers of them
out of cpufreq.c, unexport them and make them static.

Right, thanks for pointing this out!

Attached is the updated patch, please use this one instead.

Thanks!

Duplicate functionality with the gspca_zc3xx driver, zc0301 only
supports 2 USB-ID's (because it only supports a limited set of
sensors) wich are also supported by the gspca_zc3xx driver
(which supports 53 USB-ID's in total).

Rafael J. Wysocki 72ad5d77fb ACPI / Sleep: Allow the NVS saving to be skipped during suspend to RAM
Commit 2a6b69765a
(ACPI: Store NVS state even when entering suspend to RAM) caused the
ACPI suspend code save the NVS area during suspend and restore it
during resume unconditionally, although it is known that some systems
need to use acpi_sleep=s4_nonvs for hibernation to work. To allow
the affected systems to avoid saving and restoring the NVS area
during suspend to RAM and resume, introduce kernel command line
option acpi_sleep=nonvs and make acpi_sleep=s4_nonvs work as its
alias temporarily (add acpi_sleep=s4_nonvs to the feature removal
file).

Stefan Richter 3014420b6b ieee1394: schedule for removal
All application domains that are supported by the old ieee1394 driver
stack are supported by the newer firewire driver stack too. There is
now good and extensive experience with the newer stack from deployment
in Fedora since F7 as well as by enthusiast users of other
distributions.

The new drivers have consequently been recommended as the default ones
since 2.6.33, in order to fix some severe usability problems of FireWire
on Linux due to limitations of the old stack. It is now high time to
announce when the obsolete drivers will be removed.

Dominik Brodowski a3f916f2c8 pcmcia: disable pcmcia ioctl for !ARM, prepare for removal
The PCMCIA ioctl -- deprecated for years -- suffers from insufficient
locking. As it already has been deprecated for years, with its removal
long overdue, limit it to !SMP and !PREEMPT.

Furthermore, the last legitimate use of the ioctl to be reported
relates to the ARM architecture in 2008.[1] Attempts to resolve
this issue turned out unsuccessful so far.[2] Other usages have only
been reported as hear-say. If there are any legitiate and necessary
use-cases remaining, please speak out before the end of the grace
period until 2.6.3{5,6}(-rc1).

Hans de Goede ceafe1d2fe feature-removal-schedule: Add v4l1 drivers obsoleted by gspca sub drivers
This patch adds the ov511, quickcam_messenger, w9968cf, stv680 and ovcamchip
v4l1 drivers to the feature removal schedule as the devices they support
are now all also supported by v4l2 gspca sub drivers.

This patch also adds the v4l2 vc0301 driver for removal as it duplicates
functionality of the gspca_zc3xx driver, zc0301 only supports 2 USB-ID's
(because it only supports a limited set of sensors) wich are also
supported
by the gspca_zc3xx driver (which supports 53 USB-ID's in total).

The reason of removal, "replaced by allowdac and no dac

Luis R. Rodriguez 4d8cd26849 wireless: mark prism54 as deprecated and mark for removal
The preferred module is p54pci which also supports FullMAC
PCI / Cardbus devices. We schedule removal for 2.6.34. Reason
to remove this is no one really is testing prism54 anymore,
and while it works p54pci provides support for the same hardware.
It should be noted I have been told some FullMAC devices may not
have worked with the SoftMAC driver but to date we have yet to
recieve a single bug report regarding this. If there are users
out there please let us know!

Tejun Heo 93fe4483e6 sound: make OSS device number claiming optional and schedule its removal
If any OSS support is enabled, regardless of built-in or module,
sound_core claims full OSS major number (that is, the old 0-255
region) to trap open attempts and request sound modules using custom
module aliases. This feature is redundant as chrdev already has such
mechanism. This preemptive claiming prevents alternative OSS
implementation.

The custom module aliases are scheduled to be removed and the previous
patch made soundcore emit the standard chrdev aliases too to help
transition.

This patch schedule the feature for removal in a year and makes it
optional so that developers and distros can try new things in the
meantime without rebuilding the kernel. The pre-claiming can be
turned off by using SOUND_OSS_CORE_PRECLAIM and/or kernel parameter
soundcore.preclaim_oss.

As this allows sound minors to be individually grabbed by other users,
this patch updates sound_insert_unit() such that if registering
individual device region fails, it tries the next available slot.

For details on removal plan, please read the entry added by this patch
in feature-removal-schedule.txt .

Johannes Berg c64fb01627 rfkill: create useful userspace interface
The new code added by this patch will make rfkill create
a misc character device /dev/rfkill that userspace can use
to control rfkill soft blocks and get status of devices as
well as events when the status changes.

Using it is very simple -- when you open it you can read
a number of times to get the initial state, and every
further read blocks (you can poll) on getting the next
event from the kernel. The same structure you read is
also used when writing to it to change the soft block of
a given device, all devices of a given type, or all
devices.

This also makes CONFIG_RFKILL_INPUT selectable again in
order to be able to test without it present since its
functionality can now be replaced by userspace entirely
and distros and users may not want the input part of
rfkill interfering with their userspace code. We will
also write a userspace daemon to handle all that and
consequently add the input code to the feature removal
schedule.

In order to have rfkilld support both kernels with and
without CONFIG_RFKILL_INPUT (or new kernels after its
eventual removal) we also add an ioctl (that only exists
if rfkill-input is present) to disable rfkill-input.
It is not very efficient, but at least gives the correct
behaviour in all cases.

It seems a few users are using this module parameter although its not

Until userspace and distributions catch up with a default userspace

code to help these users migrate.

Users who are using the non-valid ISO / IEC 3166 alpha "EU" in their

Paul Moore 277d342fc4 selinux: Deprecate and schedule the removal of the the compat_net functionality
This patch is the first step towards removing the old "compat_net" code from
the kernel. Secmark, the "compat_net" replacement was first introduced in
2.6.18 (September 2006) and the major Linux distributions with SELinux support
have transitioned to Secmark so it is time to start deprecating the "compat_net"
mechanism. Testing a patched version of 2.6.28-rc6 with the initial release of
Fedora Core 5 did not show any problems when running in enforcing mode.

This patch adds an entry to the feature-removal-schedule.txt file and removes
the SECURITY_SELINUX_ENABLE_SECMARK_DEFAULT configuration option, forcing
Secmark on by default although it can still be disabled at runtime. The patch
also makes the Secmark permission checks "dynamic" in the sense that they are
only executed when Secmark is configured; this should help prevent problems
with older distributions that have not yet migrated to Secmark.

Bjorn Helgaas c80cfb0406 vsprintf: use new vsprintf symbolic function pointer format
Use the '%pF' format to get rid of an "#ifdef DEBUG" and make some printks
atomic.

This removes the last in-tree uses of print_fn_descriptor_symbol(). I
marked print_fn_descriptor_symbol() deprecated and scheduled it for
removal next year to give time for out-of-tree modules to be updated.

parisc's print_fn_descriptor_symbol() is currently broken there (it needs
to dereference the function pointer similar to ia64 and power). This
patch shouldn't make anything worse, but it means we need to fix
dereference_function_descriptor() instead of print_fn_descriptor_symbol()
to get meaningful initcall_debug output.

Luis R. Rodriguez b2e1b30290 cfg80211: Add new wireless regulatory infrastructure
This adds the new wireless regulatory infrastructure. The
main motiviation behind this was to centralize regulatory
code as each driver was implementing their own regulatory solution,
and to replace the initial centralized code we have where:

* only 3 regulatory domains are supported: US, JP and EU
* regulatory domains can only be changed through module parameter
* all rules were built statically in the kernel

We now have support for regulatory domains for many countries
and regulatory domains are now queried through a userspace agent
through udev allowing distributions to update regulatory rules
without updating the kernel.

Each driver can regulatory_hint() a regulatory domain
based on either their EEPROM mapped regulatory domain value to a
respective ISO/IEC 3166-1 country code or pass an internally built
regulatory domain. We also add support to let the user set the
regulatory domain through userspace in case of faulty EEPROMs to
further help compliance.

Support for world roaming will be added soon for cards capable of
this.

For more information see:

http://wireless.kernel.org/en/developers/Regulatory/CRDA

For now we leave an option to enable the old module parameter,
ieee80211_regdom, and to build the 3 old regdomains statically
(US, JP and EU). This option is CONFIG_WIRELESS_OLD_REGULATORY.
These old static definitions and the module parameter is being
scheduled for removal for 2.6.29. Note that if you use this
you won't make use of a world regulatory domain as its pointless.
If you leave this option enabled and if CRDA is present and you
use US or JP we will try to ask CRDA to update us a regulatory
domain for us.

Krzysztof Piotr Oledzki 584015727a netfilter: accounting rework: ct_extend + 64bit counters (v4)
Initially netfilter has had 64bit counters for conntrack-based accounting, but
it was changed in 2.6.14 to save memory. Unfortunately in-kernel 64bit counters are
still required, for example for "connbytes" extension. However, 64bit counters
waste a lot of memory and it was not possible to enable/disable it runtime.

This patch:
 - reimplements accounting with respect to the extension infrastructure,
 - makes one global version of seq_print_acct() instead of two seq_print_counters(),
 - makes it possible to enable it at boot time (for CONFIG_SYSCTL/CONFIG_SYSFS=n),
 - makes it possible to enable/disable it at runtime by sysctl or sysfs,
 - extends counters from 32bit to 64bit,
 - renames ip_conntrack_counter -> nf_conn_counter,
 - enables accounting code unconditionally (no longer depends on CONFIG_NF_CT_ACCT),
 - set initial accounting enable state based on CONFIG_NF_CT_ACCT
 - removes buggy IPCT_COUNTER_FILLING event handling.

If accounting is enabled newly created connections get additional acct extend.
Old connections are not changed as it is not possible to add a ct_extend area
to confirmed conntrack. Accounting is performed for all connections with
acct extend regardless of a current state of "net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_acct".
