When map_lowmem() runs, and processes a memory bank whose start or end
is not section-aligned, memory must be allocated to store the 2nd-level
page tables. Those allocations are made by calling memblock_alloc().
At this point, the only memory that is free *and* mapped is memory which
has already been mapped by map_lowmem() itself. For this reason, we must
calculate the first point at which map_lowmem() will need to allocate
memory, and set the memblock allocation limit to a lower address, so that
memblock_alloc() is guaranteed to return memory that is already mapped.
This patch enhances sanity_check_meminfo() to calculate that memory
address, and pass it to memblock_set_current_limit(), rather than just
assuming the limit is arm_lowmem_limit.
The algorithm applied is:
* Default memblock_limit to arm_lowmem_limit in the absence of any other
limit; arm_lowmem_limit is the highest memory that is mapped by
map_lowmem().
* While walking the list of memblocks, if the start of a block is not
aligned, 2nd-level page tables will need to be allocated to map the
first few pages of the block. Hence, the memblock_limit must be before
the start of the block.
* Similarly, if the end of any block is not aligned, 2nd-level page
tables will need to be allocated to map the last few pages of the
block. Hence, the memblock_limit must point at the end of the block,
rounded down to section-alignment.
* The memory blocks are assumed to be sorted in address order, so the
first unaligned block start or end is used to set the limit.
With this algorithm, the start or end of almost any bank can be non-
section-aligned. The only exception is that the start of bank 0 must
be section-aligned, since otherwise memory would need to be allocated
when mapping the start of bank 0, which occurs before any free memory
is mapped.

Commit ae8a8b9553 ("ARM: 7691/1: mm: kill unused TLB_CAN_READ_FROM_L1_CACHE
and use ALT_SMP instead") added early function returns for page table
cache flushing operations on ARMv7 SMP CPUs.
Unfortunately, when targetting Thumb-2, these `mov pc, lr' sequences
assemble to 2 bytes which can lead to corruption of the instruction
stream after code patching.
This patch fixes the alternates to use wide (32-bit) instructions for
Thumb-2, therefore ensuring that the patching code works correctly.

The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense
some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings
do not offset the cost and complications. For example, the fix in
commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time")
is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created
with improper use of the various __init prefixes.
After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go
the way of devinit and be phased out. Once all the users are gone,
we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h.
Note that some harmless section mismatch warnings may result, since
notify_cpu_starting() and cpu_up() are arch independent (kernel/cpu.c)
and are flagged as __cpuinit -- so if we remove the __cpuinit from
the arch specific callers, we will also get section mismatch warnings.
As an intermediate step, we intend to turn the linux/init.h cpuinit
related content into no-ops as early as possible, since that will get
rid of these warnings. In any case, they are temporary and harmless.
This removes all the ARM uses of the __cpuinit macros from C code,
and all __CPUINIT from assembly code. It also had two ".previous"
section statements that were paired off against __CPUINIT
(aka .section ".cpuinit.text") that also get removed here.

Failure to add the mapping created in debug_ll_io_init() can lead
to the BUG_ON() triggering in lib/ioremap.c:27 if the static
virtual address decided for the debug_ll mapping overlaps with
another mapping that is created later. This happens because the
generic ioremap code has no idea there is a mapping there and it
tries to place a mapping in the same location and blows up when
it sees that there is a pte already present.

Concentrate code to modify totalram_pages into the mm core, so the arch
memory initialized code doesn't need to take care of it. With these
changes applied, only following functions from mm core modify global
variable totalram_pages: free_bootmem_late(), free_all_bootmem(),
free_all_bootmem_node(), adjust_managed_page_count().
With this patch applied, it will be much more easier for us to keep
totalram_pages and zone->managed_pages in consistence.

Pull ARM updates from Russell King:
"This contains the usual updates from other people (listed below) and
the usual random muddle of miscellaneous ARM updates which cover some
low priority bug fixes and performance improvements.
I've started to put the pull request wording into the merge commits,
which are:
- NoMMU stuff:
This includes the following series sent earlier to the list:
- nommu-fixes
- R7 Support
- MPU support
I've left out the ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM/!MMU stuff that Arnd and I
were discussing today until we've reached a conclusion/that's had
some more review.
This is rebased (and re-tested) on your devel-stable branch because
otherwise there were going to be conflicts with Uwe's V7M work now
that you've merged that. I've included the fix for limiting MPU to
CPU_V7.
- Huge page support
These changes bring both HugeTLB support and Transparent HugePage
(THP) support to ARM. Only long descriptors (LPAE) are supported
in this series.
The code has been tested on an Arndale board (Exynos 5250).
- LPAE updates
Please pull these miscellaneous LPAE fixes I've been collecting for
a while now for 3.11. They've been tested and reviewed by quite a
few people, and most of the patches are pretty trivial. -- Will Deacon.
- arch_timer cleanups
Please pull these arch_timer cleanups I've been holding onto for a
while. They're the same as my last posting, but have been rebased
to v3.10-rc3.
- mpidr linearisation (multiprocessor id register - identifies which
CPU number we are in the system)
This patch series that implements MPIDR linearization through a
simple hashing algorithm and updates current cpu_{suspend}/{resume}
code to use the newly created hash structures to retrieve context
pointers. It represents a stepping stone for the implementation of
power management code on forthcoming multi-cluster ARM systems.
It has been tested on TC2 (dual cluster A15xA7 system), iMX6q,
OMAP4 and Tegra, with processors hitting low-power states requiring
warm-boot resume through the cpu_resume code path"

These changes are all to SoC-specific code, a total of 33 branches on
17 platforms were pulled into this. Like last time, Renesas sh-mobile
is now the platform with the most changes, followed by OMAP and EXYNOS.
Two new platforms, TI Keystone and Rockchips RK3xxx are added in
this branch, both containing almost no platform specific code at all,
since they are using generic subsystem interfaces for clocks, pinctrl,
interrupts etc. The device drivers are getting merged through the
respective subsystem maintainer trees.
One more SoC (u300) is now multiplatform capable and several others
(shmobile, exynos, msm, integrator, kirkwood, clps711x) are moving
towards that goal with this series but need more work.
Also noteworthy is the work on PCI here, which is traditionally part of
the SoC specific code. With the changes done by Thomas Petazzoni, we can
now more easily have PCI host controller drivers as loadable modules and
keep them separate from the platform code in drivers/pci/host. This has
already led to the discovery that three platforms (exynos, spear and imx)
are actually using an identical PCIe host controller and will be able
to share a driver once support for spear and imx is added.
Conflicts:
* asm/glue-proc.h has one CPU type getting added that conflicts
with another addition in 3.10-rc7
* Simple context changes in arch/arm/Makefile and arch/arm/Kconfig

"These changes are all to SoC-specific code, a total of 33 branches on
17 platforms were pulled into this. Like last time, Renesas sh-mobile
is now the platform with the most changes, followed by OMAP and
EXYNOS.
Two new platforms, TI Keystone and Rockchips RK3xxx are added in this
branch, both containing almost no platform specific code at all, since
they are using generic subsystem interfaces for clocks, pinctrl,
interrupts etc. The device drivers are getting merged through the
respective subsystem maintainer trees.
One more SoC (u300) is now multiplatform capable and several others
(shmobile, exynos, msm, integrator, kirkwood, clps711x) are moving
towards that goal with this series but need more work.
Also noteworthy is the work on PCI here, which is traditionally part
of the SoC specific code. With the changes done by Thomas Petazzoni,
we can now more easily have PCI host controller drivers as loadable
modules and keep them separate from the platform code in
drivers/pci/host. This has already led to the discovery that three
platforms (exynos, spear and imx) are actually using an identical PCIe
host controller and will be able to share a driver once support for
spear and imx is added."

Looking into the active_asids array is not enough, as we also need
to look into the reserved_asids array (they both represent processes
that are currently running).
Also, not holding the ASID allocator lock is racy, as another CPU
could schedule that process and trigger a rollover, making the erratum
workaround miss an IPI.
Exposing this outside of context.c is a little ugly on the side, so
let's define a new entry point that the erratum workaround can call
to obtain the cpumask.

On a CPU that never ran anything, both the active and reserved ASID
fields are set to zero. In this case the ASID_TO_IDX() macro will
return -1, which is not a very useful value to index a bitmap.
Instead of trying to offset the ASID so that ASID #1 is actually
bit 0 in the asid_map bitmap, just always ignore bit 0 and start
the search from bit 1. This makes the code a bit more readable,
and without risk of OoB access.

When a CPU is running a process, the ASID for that process is
held in a per-CPU variable (the "active ASIDs" array). When
the ASID allocator handles a rollover, it copies the active
ASIDs into a "reserved ASIDs" array to ensure that a process
currently running on another CPU will continue to run unaffected.
The active array is zero-ed to indicate that a rollover occurred.
Because of this mechanism, a reserved ASID is only remembered for
a single rollover. A subsequent rollover will completely refill
the reserved ASIDs array.
In a severely oversubscribed environment where a CPU can be
prevented from running for extended periods of time (think virtual
machines), the above has a horrible side effect:
[P{a} denotes process P running with ASID a]
CPU-0 CPU-1
A{x} [active = <x 0>]
[suspended] runs B{y} [active = <x y>]
[rollover:
active = <0 0>
reserved = <x y>]
runs B{y} [active = <0 y>
reserved = <x y>]
[rollover:
active = <0 0>
reserved = <0 y>]
runs C{x} [active = <0 x>]
[resumes]
runs A{x}
At that stage, both A and C have the same ASID, with deadly
consequences.
The fix is to preserve reserved ASIDs across rollovers if
the CPU doesn't have an active ASID when the rollover occurs.

This commit fixes the regression on Armada 370 (the kernal hang during
boot) introduced by the commit: "ARM: 7691/1: mm: kill unused
TLB_CAN_READ_FROM_L1_CACHE and use ALT_SMP instead".
When coming out of either a Wait for Interrupt (WFI) or a Wait for
Event (WFE) IDLE states, a specific timing sensitivity exists between
the retiring WFI/WFE instructions and the newly issued subsequent
instructions. This sensitivity can result in a CPU hang scenario. The
workaround is to insert either a Data Synchronization Barrier (DSB) or
Data Memory Barrier (DMB) command immediately after the WFI/WFE
instruction.

modified to apply the errata fix dynamically according to the

first in the pre-C world and the 'real' initialisation during arch setup.
This patch wires in previously added MPU initialisation functions so that

'normal' RAM (the appropriate properties depend on whether the system is
SMP).

This patch adds new functions for probing and initialising the ARMv7
PMSA-compliant MPU.
These use the pre-defined and reserved MPU_PROBE_REGION for establishing
properties of the MPU, which is necessary because certain probe operations
require modifying region properties and reading back the results.
This patch also introduces a minimal sanity_check_meminfo_mpu function, that
ensures that the memory set-up passed to the kernel can be used in conjunction
with the MPU. The base address of a region must be aligned to the region size,
otherwise behavior is unpredictable and region sizes can only be specified as a
power-of-two. To simplify the satisfaction of these requirements this
implementation currently enforces that all memory is contiguous from
PHYS_OFFSET, merging banks that are contiguous but passed in separately.
The functions are added in this patch but wired in to the boot process later
in the series.

Currently flush_dcache_page() thinks pages as non-mapped if
mapping_mapped(mapping) return false. This approach is very
coase:
- mmap on part of file may cause all pages backed on
the file being thought as mmaped
- file-backed pages aren't mapped into user space actually
if the memory mmaped on the file isn't accessed
This patch uses page_mapped() to decide if the page has been
mapped.
From the attached test code, I find there is much performance
improvement(>25%) when accessing page caches via read under this
situations, so memcpy benefits a lot from not flushing cache
under this situation.

On ARM we use the __flush_dcache_page function to flush the dcache
of pages when needed; usually when the PG_dcache_clean bit is unset
and we are setting a PTE.
A HugeTLB page is represented as a compound page consisting of an
array of pages. Thus to flush the dcache of a HugeTLB page, one must
flush more than a single page.
This patch modifies __flush_dcache_page such that all constituent
pages of a HugeTLB page are flushed.

On Keystone platforms, physical memory is entirely outside the 32-bit
addressible range. Therefore, the (bank->start > ULONG_MAX) check below marks
the entire system memory as highmem, and this causes unpleasentness all over.
This patch eliminates the extra bank start check (against ULONG_MAX) by
checking bank->start against the physical address corresponding to vmalloc_min
instead.
In the process, this patch also cleans up parts of the highmem sanity check
code by removing what has now become a redundant check for banks that entirely

On Feroceon the L2 cache becomes non-coherent with the CPU
when the L1 caches are disabled. Thus the L2 needs to be invalidated
after both L1 caches are disabled.
On kexec before the starting the code for relocation the kernel,
the L1 caches are disabled in cpu_froc_fin (cpu_v7_proc_fin for Feroceon),
but after L2 cache is never invalidated, because inv_all is not set

So kernel relocation and decompression may has (and usually has) errors.

Many ARMv7 cores have hardware page table walkers that can read the L1
cache. This is discoverable from the ID_MMFR3 register, although this
can be expensive to access from the low-level set_pte functions and is a
pain to cache, particularly with multi-cluster systems.
A useful observation is that the multi-processing extensions for ARMv7
require coherent table walks, meaning that we can make use of ALT_SMP
patching in proc-v7-* to patch away the cache flush safely for these
cores.

Commit b8db6b8 (ARM: 7547/4: cache-l2x0: add support for Aurora L2 cache

lost. Commit 6248d06 (ARM: 7545/1: cache-l2x0: make outer_cache_fns a
field of l2x0_of_data) changed how .set_debug is initialized. Both commits
break commit 74ddcdb (ARM: 7608/1: l2x0: Only set .set_debug
on PL310 r3p0 and earlier) which uses the RTL version to conditionally set
.set_debug function pointer. Commit b8db6b8 also caused the printed cache
ID to be missing the version information.
Fix this by reverting how the part number is masked so the RTL version
info is maintained. The cache-id-part DT property does not set the RTL
bits so masking them should have no effect. Also, re-arrange the order
of the function pointer init so the .set_debug function can be overridden.

Some early versions of the Krait CPU design incorrectly indicate
that they only support the UDIV and SDIV instructions in Thumb
mode when they actually support them in ARM and Thumb mode. It
seems that these CPUs follow the DDI0406B ARM ARM which has two
possible values for the divide instructions field, instead of the
DDI0406C document which has three possible values.
Work around this problem by checking the MIDR against Krait CPUs
with this faulty ISAR0 register and force the hwcaps to indicate
support in both modes.

The ISAR0 register indicates support for the SDIV and UDIV
instructions in both the Thumb and ARM instruction set. Read the
register to detect the supported instructions and update the

With LPAE enabled, alloc_init_section() does not map the entire
address space for unaligned addresses.
The issue also reproduced with CMA + LPAE. CMA tries to map 16MB
with page granularity mappings during boot. alloc_init_pte()
is called and out of 16MB, only 2MB gets mapped and rest remains
unaccessible.
Because of this OMAP5 boot is broken with CMA + LPAE enabled.
Fix the issue by ensuring that the entire addresses are
mapped.

The ARM ARM requires branch predictor maintenance if, for a given ASID,
the instructions at a specific virtual address appear to change.
From the kernel's point of view, that means:
- Changing the kernel's view of memory (e.g. switching to the
identity map)
- ASID rollover (since ASIDs will be re-allocated to new tasks)
This patch adds explicit branch predictor maintenance when either of the
two conditions above are met.

mm->context.id is updated under asid_lock when a new ASID is allocated
to an mm_struct. However, it is also read without the lock when a task
is being scheduled and checking whether or not the current ASID
generation is up-to-date.
If two threads of the same process are being scheduled in parallel and
the bottom bits of the generation in their mm->context.id match the
current generation (that is, the mm_struct has not been used for ~2^24
rollovers) then the non-atomic, lockless access to mm->context.id may
yield the incorrect ASID.
This patch fixes this issue by making mm->context.id and atomic64_t,
ensuring that the generation is always read consistently. For code that
only requires access to the ASID bits (e.g. TLB flushing by mm), then
the value is accessed directly, which GCC converts to an ldrb.

If a thread triggers an ASID rollover, other threads of the same process
must be made to wait until the mm->context.id for the shared mm_struct
has been updated to new generation and associated book-keeping (e.g.
TLB invalidation) has ben performed.
However, there is a *tiny* window where both mm->context.id and the
relevant active_asids entry are updated to the new generation, but the
TLB flush has not been performed, which could allow another thread to
return to userspace with a dirty TLB, potentially leading to data
corruption. In reality this will never occur because one CPU would need
to perform a context-switch in the time it takes another to do a couple
of atomic test/set operations but we should plug the race anyway.
This patch moves the active_asids update until after the potential TLB
flush on context-switch.

A static mapped area is ARM-specific, so it is better not to use
generic vmalloc data structure, that is, vmlist and vmlist_lock
for managing static mapped area. And it causes some needless overhead and
reducing this overhead is better idea.
Now, we have newly introduced static_vm infrastructure.
With it, we don't need to iterate all mapped areas. Instead, we just
iterate static mapped areas. It helps to reduce an overhead of finding
matched area. And architecture dependency on vmalloc layer is removed,
so it will help to maintainability for vmalloc layer.

In current implementation, we used ARM-specific flag, that is,
VM_ARM_STATIC_MAPPING, for distinguishing ARM specific static mapped area.
The purpose of static mapped area is to re-use static mapped area when
entire physical address range of the ioremap request can be covered
by this area.
This implementation causes needless overhead for some cases.
For example, assume that there is only one static mapped area and
vmlist has 300 areas. Every time we call ioremap, we check 300 areas for
deciding whether it is matched or not. Moreover, even if there is
no static mapped area and vmlist has 300 areas, every time we call
ioremap, we check 300 areas in now.
If we construct a extra list for static mapped area, we can eliminate
above mentioned overhead.
With a extra list, if there is one static mapped area,
we just check only one area and proceed next operation quickly.
In fact, it is not a critical problem, because ioremap is not frequently
used. But reducing overhead is better idea.
Another reason for doing this work is for removing architecture dependency
on vmalloc layer. I think that vmlist and vmlist_lock is internal data
structure for vmalloc layer. Some codes for debugging and stat inevitably
use vmlist and vmlist_lock. But it is preferable that they are used
as least as possible in outside of vmalloc.c
Now, I introduce an ARM-specific infrastructure for static mapped area. In
the following patch, we will use this and resolve above mentioned problem.

This happens because the DMA allocation code is not respecting atomic
allocations correctly.
GFP flags should not be tested for GFP_ATOMIC to determine if an
atomic allocation is being requested. GFP_ATOMIC is not a flag but
a value. The GFP bitmask flags are all prefixed with __GFP_.
The rest of the kernel tests for __GFP_WAIT not being set to indicate
an atomic allocation. We need to do the same.

Some ARM cores are not capable to run in ARM mode (e.g. Cortex-M3). So
obviously these cannot enter the kernel in ARM mode. Make an exception
for them and let them enter in THUMB mode.

This makes cr_alignment a constant 0 to break code that tries to modify
the value as it's likely that it's built on wrong assumption when
CONFIG_CPU_CP15 isn't defined. For code that is only reading the value 0
is more or less a fine value to report.

Add a method (hyp_idmap_setup) to populate a hyp pgd with an
identity mapping of the code contained in the .hyp.idmap.text
section.
Offer a method to drop this identity mapping through
hyp_idmap_teardown.
Make all the above depend on CONFIG_ARM_VIRT_EXT and CONFIG_ARM_LPAE.

ARM_VIRT_EXT is a property of CPU_V7, but does not adversely affect
other CPUs that can be built into the same kernel image (i.e. ARMv6+).
This patch defaults ARM_VIRT_EXT to y if CPU_V7, allowing hypervisors
such as KVM to make better use of the option and being able to rely
on hyp-mode boot support.

In order to support secure and non-secure platforms in multi-platform

be disabled. Make all the errata options that fit in this category
depend on !CONFIG_ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM.

Two new platforms have been added, the sunxi platforms (Allwinner A1x
SoCs) by Maxime Ripard, and a generic Broadcom platform for a new
series of ARMv7 platforms from them, where the hope is that we can
keep the platform code generic enough to have them all share one mach
directory. The new Broadcom platform is contributed by Christian Daudt.
Highbank has grown support for Calxeda's next generation of hardware,
ECX-2000.
clps711x has seen a lot of cleanup from Alexander Shiyan, and he's also
taken on maintainership of the platform.
Beyond this there has been a bunch of work from a number of people on
converting more platforms to IRQ domains, pinctrl conversion, cleanup
and general feature enablement across most of the active platforms.

Flushing the cache is needed for the hardware to see the idmap table
and therefore can be done at init time. On ARMv7 it is not necessary to
flush L2 so flush_cache_louis() is used here instead.
There is no point flushing the cache in setup_mm_for_reboot() as the
caller should, and already is, taking care of this. If switching the
memory map requires a cache flush, then cpu_switch_mm() already includes
that operation.
What is not done by cpu_switch_mm() on ASID capable CPUs is TLB flushing
as the whole point of the ASID is to tag the TLBs and avoid flushing them
on a context switch. Since we don't have a clean ASID for the identity
mapping, we need to flush the TLB explicitly in that case. Otherwise
this is already performed by cpu_switch_mm().

PROT_NONE mappings apply the page protection attributes defined by _P000
which translate to PAGE_NONE for ARM. These attributes specify an XN,
RDONLY pte that is inaccessible to userspace. However, on kernels
configured without support for domains, such a pte *is* accessible to
the kernel and can be read via get_user, allowing tasks to read
PROT_NONE pages via syscalls such as read/write over a pipe.
This patch introduces a new software pte flag, L_PTE_NONE, that is set
to identify faulting, present entries.
Signed-off-by: Will Deacon <will.deacon@arm.com>
For long-descriptor translation table formats, the ARMv7 architecture
defines the last two bits of the second- and third-level descriptors to
be:
x0b - Invalid
01b - Block (second-level), Reserved (third-level)
11b - Table (second-level), Page (third-level)
This allows us to define L_PTE_PRESENT as (3 << 0) and use this value to
create ptes directly. However, when determining whether a given pte
value is present in the low-level page table accessors, we only need to
check the least significant bit of the descriptor, allowing us to write
faulting, present entries which are required for PROT_NONE mappings.
This patch introduces L_PTE_VALID, which can be used to test whether a
pte should fault, and updates the low-level page table accessors
accordingly.

When updating the page protection map after calculating the user_pgprot
value, the base protection map is temporarily stored in an unsigned long
type, causing truncation of the protection bits when LPAE is enabled.
This effectively means that calls to mprotect() will corrupt the upper
page attributes, clearing the XN bit unconditionally.
This patch uses pteval_t to store the intermediate protection values,
preserving the upper bits for 64-bit descriptors.

Aurora Cache Controller was designed to be compatible with the ARM L2
Cache Controller. It comes with some difference or improvement such
as:
- no cache id part number available through hardware (need to get it
by the DT).
- always write through mode available.
- two flavors of the controller outer cache and system cache (meaning
maintenance operations on L1 are broadcasted to the L2 and L2
performs the same operation).
- in outer cache mode, the cache maintenance operations are improved and
can be done on a range inside a page and are not limited to a cache
line.

When using DEBUG_LL, the UART's (or other HW's) registers are mapped
into early page tables based on the results of assembly macro addruart.
Later, when the page tables are replaced, the same virtual address must
remain valid. Historically, this has been ensured by using defines from
<mach/iomap.h> in both the implementation of addruart, and the machine's
.map_io() function. However, with the move to single zImage, we wish to
remove <mach/iomap.h>. To enable this, the macro addruart may be used
when constructing the late page tables too; addruart is exposed as a
C function debug_ll_addr(), and used to set up the required mapping in
debug_ll_io_init(), which may called on an opt-in basis from a machine's
.map_io() function.

When allocating a new ASID, we must take care not to re-assign a
reserved ASID-value to a new mm. This requires us to check each
candidate ASID against those currently reserved by other cores before
assigning a new ASID to the current mm.
This patch improves the ASID allocation algorithm by using a
bitmap-based approach. Rather than iterating over the reserved ASID
array for each candidate ASID, we simply find the first zero bit,
ensuring that those indices corresponding to reserved ASIDs are set
when flushing during a rollover event.
Tested-by: Marc Zyngier <marc.zyngier@arm.com>

When scheduling a new mm, we take a spinlock so that we can:
1. Safely allocate a new ASID, if required
2. Update our active_asids field without worrying about parallel
updates to reserved_asids
3. Ensure that we flush our local TLB, if required
However, this has the nasty affect of serialising context-switch across
all CPUs in the system. The usual (fast) case is where the next mm has
a valid ASID for the current generation. In such a scenario, we can
avoid taking the lock and instead use atomic64_xchg to update the
active_asids variable for the current CPU. If a rollover occurs on
another CPU (which would take the lock), when copying the active_asids
into the reserved_asids another atomic64_xchg is used to replace each
active_asids with 0. The fast path can then detect this case and fall
back to spinning on the lock.

ASIDs are allocated to MMU contexts based on a rolling counter. This
means that after 255 allocations we must invalidate all existing ASIDs
via an expensive IPI mechanism to synchronise all of the online CPUs and
ensure that all tasks execute with an ASID from the new generation.
This patch changes the rollover behaviour so that we rely instead on the
hardware broadcasting of the TLB invalidation to avoid the IPI calls.
This works by keeping track of the active ASID on each core, which is
then reserved in the case of a rollover so that currently scheduled
tasks can continue to run. For cores without hardware TLB broadcasting,
we keep track of pending flushes in a cpumask, so cores can flush their
local TLB before scheduling a new mm.

This is a pet peeve of mine. Any time there's a long list of items
(header file inclusions, kconfig entries, array initalisers, etc) and
someone wants to add a new item, they *always* go and stick it at the
end of the list.
Guys, don't do this. Either put the new item into a randomly-chosen
position or, probably better, alphanumerically sort the list.
lets sort all our select statements alphanumerically. This commit was
created by the following perl:
while (<>) {
while (/\\\s*$/) {

}
undef %selects if /^\s*config\s+/;
if (/^\s+select\s+(\w+).*/) {
if (defined($selects{$1})) {
if ($selects{$1} eq $_) {
print STDERR "Warning: removing duplicated $1 entry\n";
} else {
print STDERR "Error: $1 differently selected\n".
"\tOld: $selects{$1}\n".
"\tNew: $_\n";
exit 1;
}
}
$selects{$1} = $_;
next;
}
if (%selects and (/^\s*$/ or /^\s+help/ or /^\s+---help---/ or
/^endif/ or /^endchoice/)) {
foreach $k (sort (keys %selects)) {
print "$selects{$k}";
}
undef %selects;
}
print;
}
if (%selects) {
foreach $k (sort (keys %selects)) {
print "$selects{$k}";
}
}
It found two duplicates:

Implement an interval tree as a replacement for the VMA prio_tree. The
algorithms are similar to lib/interval_tree.c; however that code can't be
directly reused as the interval endpoints are not explicitly stored in the
VMA. So instead, the common algorithm is moved into a template and the
details (node type, how to get interval endpoints from the node, etc) are
filled in using the C preprocessor.
Once the interval tree functions are available, using them as a

"This is the first chunk of ARM updates for this merge window.
Conflicts are expected in two files - asm/timex.h and
mach-integrator/integrator_cp.c. Nothing particularly stands out more
than anything else.
Most of the growth is down to the opcodes stuff from Dave Martin,
which is countered by Rob's patches to use more of the asm-generic
headers on ARM."
(A few more conflicts grew since then, but it all looked fairly trivial)

Pull CMA and DMA-mapping updates from Marek Szyprowski:
"This time the pull request is rather small, because the further
redesign patches were not ready on time.
This pull request consists of the patches which extend ARM DMA-mapping
subsystem with support for CPU coherent (ACP) DMA busses. The first
client of the new version is HighBank SATA driver. The second part of
the pull request includes various cleanup for both CMA common code and
ARM DMA-mapping subsystem."
Fix up trivial add-add conflict due to the "dma-coherent" DT property
being added next to the "calxeda,port-phys" property for the Calxeda
AHCI controller.

arch_is_coherent is problematic as it is a global symbol. This
doesn't work for multi-platform kernels or platforms which can support
per device coherent DMA.
This adds arm_coherent_dma_ops to be used for devices which connected
coherently (i.e. to the ACP port on Cortex-A9 or A15). The arm_dma_ops
are modified at boot when arch_is_coherent is true.

arm: Add ARM ERRATA 775420 workaround
Workaround for the 775420 Cortex-A9 (r2p2, r2p6,r2p8,r2p10,r3p0) erratum.

The ARMv7 processor setup function __v7_setup() cleans and invalidates the
CPU cache before enabling MMU to start the CPU with a clean CPU local cache.
But on ARMv7 architectures like Cortex-[A15/A8], this code will end
up flushing the L2 caches(up to level of Coherency) which is undesirable
and expensive. The setup functions are used in the CPU hotplug scenario too
and hence flushing all cache levels should be avoided.
This patch replaces the cache flushing call with the newly introduced
v7 dcache LoUIS API where only cache levels up to LoUIS are cleaned and
invalidated when a processors executes __v7_setup which is the expected
behavior.
For processors like A9 and A5 where the L2 cache is an outer one the
behavior should be unchanged.

ARM v7 architecture introduced the concept of cache levels and related
control registers. New processors like A7 and A15 embed an L2 unified cache
controller that becomes part of the cache level hierarchy. Some operations in
the kernel like cpu_suspend and __cpu_disable do not require a flush of the
entire cache hierarchy to DRAM but just the cache levels belonging to the
Level of Unification Inner Shareable (LoUIS), which in most of ARM v7 systems
correspond to L1.
The current cache flushing API used in cpu_suspend and __cpu_disable,
flush_cache_all(), ends up flushing the whole cache hierarchy since for
v7 it cleans and invalidates all cache levels up to Level of Coherency
(LoC) which cripples system performance when used in hot paths like hotplug
and cpuidle.
Therefore a new kernel cache maintenance API must be added to cope with
latest ARM system requirements.
This patch adds flush_cache_louis() to the ARM kernel cache maintenance API.
This function cleans and invalidates all data cache levels up to the
Level of Unification Inner Shareable (LoUIS) and invalidates the instruction
cache for processors that support it (> v7).
This patch also creates an alias of the cache LoUIS function to flush_kern_all
for all processor versions prior to v7, so that the current cache flushing
behaviour is unchanged for those processors.
v7 cache maintenance code implements a cache LoUIS function that cleans and
invalidates the D-cache up to LoUIS and invalidates the I-cache, according
to the new API.

Fix this harmless build warning:
arch/arm/mm/alignment.c: In function 'do_alignment':
arch/arm/mm/alignment.c:749:21: warning: 'offset.un' may be used uninitialized in this function
This is caused by the compiler not being able to properly analyse the
code to prove that offset.un is assigned in every case. The case it
struggles with is where we assign the handler from the Thumb parser -
do_alignment_t32_to_handler(). As this starts by zeroing this variable
via a pointer, move it into the calling function. This fixes the
warning.

There is a bug if l2x0 controller has been enabled when calling
l2x0_init, the aux ctrl register will not be saved in l2x0_saved_regs.
Therefore we will use uninitialized l2x0_saved_regs.aux_ctrl for
resuming later.
In this patch, the aux ctrl value is read and saved after it is
initialized. So we have the real value being set for resuming.

arm: mm: fix DMA pool affiliation check
From "Uwe Kleine-Knig" <u.kleine-koenig@pengutronix.de>:
this is the 2nd version of this series whose goal is to make struct
of_device_id.data const. Conceptually a driver must not modify the data
contained there so making it const is the right thing.
v1 of this series was sent with Message-id:
1342182734-321-1-git-send-email-y. Changes since then are:
- powerpc fixes
- several new consts that were found by Arnd that are possible after
patch 19.
Arnd suggested to take this series via arm-soc late for 3.6 in one go
because patch 19 depends on the former patches but is a precondition to
the latter and it fixes a few warnings. So getting it in via the
respective maintainer trees would need a much bigger coordination
effort. That means I prefer getting Acks over you taking the patch.
Vinod Koul already took
dmaengine: at_hdmac: add a few const qualifiers
that is in next-20120723 as 7fd63ccdad now. Vinod, I don't follow your
pull requests, but assuming you didn't let it already pull for 3.6 I
suggest you drop it from your queue and I just take your Ack.
This series was build tested for arm (all defconfigs) and powerpc (all
defconfigs and an allyesconfig) and grep didn't find more issues. As
before it introduces a warning in drivers/regulator/twl-regulator.c.
This driver does modify its .of_match_table when a device is bound which
doesn't fits the concept of independant devices. Arnd noticed another
new warning in drivers/scsi/qlogicpti.c that isn't that easy to resolve,
because the pointer to (now) const data is passed as first argument to
scsi_host_alloc. To fix that properly struct Scsi_Host.hostt needs to
get a const, too. Alternatively I could introduce a cast removing the
const, but I don't like that.

The __free_from_pool() function was changed in
e9da6e9905. Unfortunately, the test that
checks whether the provided (start,size) is within the DMA pool has
been improperly modified. It used to be:
if (start < coherent_head.vm_start || end > coherent_head.vm_end)
Where coherent_head.vm_end was non-inclusive (i.e, it did not include
the first byte after the pool). The test has been changed to:
if (start < pool->vaddr || start > pool->vaddr + pool->size)
So now pool->vaddr + pool->size is inclusive (i.e, it includes the
first byte after the pool), so the test should be >= instead of >.
This bug causes the following message when freeing the *first* DMA
coherent buffer that has been allocated, because its virtual address
is exactly equal to pool->vaddr + pool->size :

Add fixed PCI i/o mapping") from the arm-soc tree conflict in
a nontrivial way in arch/arm/mm/mmu.c.
Rob Herring explains:
The PCI i/o reserved area has a dummy physical address of 0 and
needs to be skipped by ioremap searches. So we don't set
VM_ARM_STATIC_MAPPING to prevent matches by ioremap. The vm_struct
settings don't really matter when we do the real mapping of the
i/o space.

With !HIGHMEM, sanity_check_meminfo checks for banks that completely or
partially overlap the vmalloc region. The test for partial overlap checks
__va(bank->start + bank->size) > vmalloc_min. This is not appropriate if
there is a non-linear translation between virtual and physical addresses,
as bank->start + bank->size is actually in the bank following the one being
interrogated.
In most cases, even when using SPARSEMEM, this is not problematic as the
subsequent bank will start at a higher va than the one in question. However
if the physical to virtual address conversion is not monotonic increasing,
the incorrect test could result in a bank not being truncated when it
should be.
This patch ensures we perform the va-pa conversion on memory from the
bank we are interested in, not the following one.

affects SMP platforms. However, when running an SMP_ON_UP kernel on a
uniprocessor platform we must take care to preserve the ASID as the

Fix dma_contiguous_remap() so that it continues through all the
regions, even after encountering one that is outside lowmem.
Without this change, if you have two CMA regions, the first outside
lowmem and the seocnd inside lowmem, only the second one will get
set up in the MMU. Data written to that region then doesn't get
automatically flushed from the cache into memory.

"Those patches are continuation of my earlier work.
They contains extensions to DMA-mapping framework to remove limitation
of the current ARM implementation (like limited total size of DMA
coherent/write combine buffers), improve performance of buffer sharing
between devices (attributes to skip cpu cache operations or creation
of additional kernel mapping for some specific use cases) as well as
some unification of the common code for dma_mmap_attrs() and
dma_mmap_coherent() functions. All extensions have been implemented
and tested for ARM architecture."

This patch adds support for DMA_ATTR_SKIP_CPU_SYNC attribute for
dma_(un)map_(single,page,sg) functions family. It lets dma mapping clients
to create a mapping for the buffer for the given device without performing
a CPU cache synchronization. CPU cache synchronization can be skipped for
the buffers which it is known that they are already in 'device' domain (CPU
caches have been already synchronized or there are only coherent mappings
for the buffer). For advanced users only, please use it with care.

Add some sanity checks and forbid mmaping of buffers into vma areas larger

This patch changes dma-mapping subsystem to use generic vmalloc areas
for all consistent dma allocations. This increases the total size limit
of the consistent allocations and removes platform hacks and a lot of
duplicated code.
Atomic allocations are served from special pool preallocated on boot,
because vmalloc areas cannot be reliably created in atomic context.

This adds a fixed virtual mapping for PCI i/o addresses. The mapping is
located at the last 2MB of vmalloc region (0xfee00000-0xff000000). 2MB
is used to align with PMD size, but IO_SPACE_LIMIT is 1MB. The space
is reserved after .map_io and can be mapped at any time later with
pci_ioremap_io. Platforms which need early i/o mapping (e.g. for vga
console) can call pci_map_io_early in their .map_io function.
This has changed completely from the 1st implementation which only
supported creating the static mapping at .map_io.
