The calculations for temperature and pressure compensation were already slightly
optimized in comparison to the datasheet. So, it makes sense to optimize even a
bit more, making proper use of C operators:
- variable t in bmp280_compensate_temp() can be eliminated by directly
returning the result of the relevant equation.
- make use of the += operator and eliminate an unnecessary parenthesis level in
bmp280_compensate_press().
When the initialization of the ctrl_meas register fails, the error message will
now mention the right register name.

Here's the big staging tree pull request for 3.19-rc1.
We continued to delete more lines than were added, always a good thing,
but not at a huge rate this release, only about 70k lines removed
overall mostly from removing the horrid bcm driver.
Lots of normal staging driver cleanups and fixes all over the place,
well over a thousand of them, the shortlog shows all the horrid details.
The "contentious" thing here is the movement of the Android binder code
out of staging into the "real" part of the kernel. This is code that
has been stable for a few years now and is working as-is in the tens of
millions of devices with no issues. Yes, the code is horrid, and the
userspace api leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not going to change
due to legacy issues that we have no control over. Because so many
devices and companies rely on this, and the code is stable, might as
well promote it out of staging.
This was all discussed at the Linux Plumbers conference, and everyone
participating agreed that this was the best way forward.
There is work happening to replace the binder code with something new
that is happening right now, but I don't expect to see the results of
that work for another year at the earliest. If that ever happens, and
Android switches over to it, I'll gladly remove this version.
As for maintainers, I'll be glad to maintain this code, I've been doing
it for the past few years with no problems. I'll send a MAINTAINERS
entry for it before 3.19-final is out, still need to talk to the Google
developers about if they are willing to help with it or not, last I
checked they were, which was good.

expected to be in sync with the current size of the buffer. And currently
all implementations of the get_length callback either return this field or a

There haven't been any users of the get_bytes_per_datum() callback for a
while. The core assumes that the number of bytes per datum can be calculated
based on the enabled channels and the storage size of the channel and
iio_compute_scan_bytes() is used to compute this number. So remove the
callback.

Originally device and buffer registration were kept as separate operations
in IIO to allow to register two distinct sets of channels for buffered and
non-buffered operations. This has since already been further restricted and
the channel set registered for the buffer needs to be a subset of the
channel set registered for the device. Additionally the possibility to not
have a raw (or processed) attribute for a channel which was registered for
the device was added a while ago. This means it is possible to not register
any device level attributes for a channel even if it is registered for the
device. Also if a channel's scan_index is set to -1 and the channel is
registered for the buffer it is ignored.
So in summary it means it is possible to register the same channel array for
both the device and the buffer yet still end up with distinctive sets of
channels for both of them. This makes the argument for having to have to
manually register the channels for both the device and the buffer invalid.
Considering that the vast majority of all drivers want to register the same
set of channels for both the buffer and the device it makes sense to move
the buffer registration into the core to avoid some boiler-plate code in the
device driver setup path.

Individual drivers should not be messing with the scan mask that contains
the list of enabled channels. This is something that is supposed to be
managed by the core.
Now that the last few drivers that used it to configure a default scan mask
have been updated to not do this anymore we can unexport the function.
Note, this patch also requires moving a few functions around so they are all
declared before the first internal user.

These changes are needed to support the functionality of a pedometer.
A pedometer has two basic functionalities: step counter and step detector.
The step counter needs to be enabled and then it will count the steps
in its hardware register. Whenever the application needs to check
the step count, it will read the step counter register. To support the
step counter a new channel type STEPS is added. Since the pedometer needs
to be enabled first so that the hardware can count and store the steps,
we need a specific ENABLE channel info mask.
The step detector will generate an interrupt each time a step is detected.
To support this functionality we add a new event type INSTANCE.

Currently, we get the new GSEL bits by OR-ing the old values
with the new ones. This only works first time when the old
values are 0.
Startup:
* GSEL0 = 0, GSEL1 = 0
Set range to 4G: (GSEL0 = 1, GSEL1 = 0)
* GSEL0 = 0 | 1 = 1
* GSEL1 = 0 | 0 = 0
* correct
Change range to 2G: (GSEL0 = 0, GSEL1 = 0)
* GSEL0 = 1 | 0 = 1
* GSEL1 = 0 | 0 = 0
* wrong, GSEL0 should be 0
This has the nice effect that we can use the full scale range,
exported in in_accel_scale_available.

of type u16, while dig_p2 to dig_p9 are of type s16. In
bmp280_read_compensation_press(), values read from the device were treated as
the wrong type.

follows:

- exynos7 does not include an ADC PHY control register.
- Some ADC_CON2 register bits being used in ADCv2 are listed as

If touchscreen mode is enabled and a conversion is requested on another
channel, the result in the last converted data register can be a
touchscreen relative value. Starting a conversion involves to do a
conversion for all active channel. It starts with ADC channels and ends
with touchscreen channels. Then if ADC_LCD register is not read quickly,

The following chips are either similar or have only the resolution
different. Hence, change this driver to support these chips too:
BMI055 - combo chip (accelerometer part is identical to BMC150's)
BMA255 - identical to BMC150's accelerometer
BMA222E - 8 bit resolution
BMA250E - 10 bit resolution
BMA280 - 14 bit resolution
Additionally:
* add bmc150_accel_match_acpi_device() function to check that the device
has been enumerated through ACPI;
* rename bmc150_accel_acpi_gpio_probe() to bmc150_accel_gpio_probe()
since the ACPI matching has been moved to the new function. Also, this
will allow for the GPIO matching to be done against a device tree too, not only
ACPI tree;
* rename bmc150_scale_info struct member 'range' to 'reg_range' to be
consistent with the naming convention used elsewhere in the driver
and declare it u8, instead of int;
* change CONFIG description to list all supported chips;

Maintainer Updates
* Add 3 designated reviewers for IIO. Lars, Peter and Hartmut have been
actively reviewing a lot of patches for a while now so this reflects
the status quo. These three are probably the only reason I keep
my head above the water!
New drivers and device support
* max5821 DAC
* Rockchip SARADC
* TI ADC128S052 ADC
* BMC150 Accelerometer
* exynos ADC driver gains support for s3c24xx and s3c64xx parts.
* kxcjk-1013 gainst range control and runtime PM support to drive
down it's power usage.
Driver removals
* Drop ad5930, ad99850, ad9852, ad9910 and ad9951 drivers on the simple
basis that they drivers just provided a register write function with
no compliant user space ABI whatsoever. Much better to drop them and
start again for these in the fullness of time.
Core Enhancements
* Join together neighbouring elements in the demux units that feeds
the binary interfaces. This cuts down on the number of individual
copies needed when splitting out individual channels from the incoming
channel scans.
* Other demux related cleanups such as using roundup instead of a local
implementation.
Cleanups
* Drop an unnecessary double setting of the owner field in xilinx adc.
* Some more patches to use managed (devm) interfaces to cut down on
complexity of removal code.
* adis16060 coding style fixlets.
* Fix some incorrect error returns in the Xilinx ADC driver.
* Coding style fixlets for various accelerometer drivers.
* Some sparse warning fixes to do with endianness and sign of variables.
* Fix an incorrect and entirely pointless use of sizeof on a dynamic pointer
in hid-sensor-magn-3d by dropping the relevant code.

Exynos ADC drvier have to control this clock.
Exynos3250/Exynos4/Exynos5 has 'adc' clock as following:
- 'adc' clock: bus clock for ADC
Exynos3250 has additional 'sclk_adc' clock as following:
- 'sclk_adc' clock: special clock for ADC which provide clock to internal ADC
Exynos 4210/4212/4412 and Exynos5250/5420 has not included 'sclk_adc' clock
in FSYS_BLK. But, Exynos3250 based on Cortex-A7 has only included 'sclk_adc'
clock in FSYS_BLK.

The userspace interface for acceleration sensors is documented as using
m/s^2 units [Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-bus-iio]
The fullscale raw values for the BMA80 corresponds to -/+ 1, 1.5, 2, etc G

The scale table was converting to G rather than m/s^2.

When creating the demux table we need to iterate over the selected scan mask for
the buffer to get the samples which should be copied to destination buffer.
Right now the code uses the mask which contains all active channels, which means
the demux table contains entries which causes it to copy all the samples from
source to destination buffer one by one without doing any demuxing.

The iio sysfs ABI defines a way to specify period for roc and thresholds.
What: /sys/.../events/in_accel_x_thresh_rising_period
What: /sys/.../events/in_accel_x_thresh_falling_period
what: /sys/.../events/in_accel_x_roc_rising_period
What: /sys/.../events/in_accel_x_roc_falling_period

When event spec is shared by multiple channels, which has definition
for mask_shared_by_type, iio_device_register_eventset fails.
For example:
static const struct iio_event_spec iio_dummy_events[] = {
{
.type = IIO_EV_TYPE_THRESH,
.dir = IIO_EV_DIR_RISING,
.mask_separate = BIT(IIO_EV_INFO_ENABLE),
.mask_shared_by_type = BIT(IIO_EV_INFO_VALUE),
}, {
.type = IIO_EV_TYPE_THRESH,
.dir = IIO_EV_DIR_FALLING,
.mask_separate = BIT(IIO_EV_INFO_ENABLE),a
.mask_shared_by_type = BIT(IIO_EV_INFO_VALUE),
}
};
If two channels use this event spec, this will result in error.
This change handles EBUSY error similar to iio_device_add_info_mask_type().

The I2C devices that make up the STMicroelectronics MEMS sensors
may be sneakily enabled by cleverly giving the device node the same
name as a string match from the platform device ID table. However
the right method is to use the compatible string.
On detection, the ST sensors use the ID string to probe and
instatiate the right sensor driver, so pass the kernel-internal ID
string in the .data field of the OF match table, and set the I2C
client name to this name when a compatible match is used.
This avoids having misc Linux-specific strings floating around in
the device tree.

Currently in the inkern.c code for IIO framework, the function
of_iio_channel_get_by_name() will return a non-NULL pointer when
it cannot find a channel using of_iio_channel_get() and when it
tries to search for 'io-channel-ranges' property and fails. This
is incorrect behaviour as the function which calls this expects
a NULL pointer for failure. This patch rectifies the issue.

A mixed bag of fixes, many of which feel just to late for 3.15.
* hid sensors - some devices need a feature report request in order to
change power state. This isn't part of the spec, but has been observed
on several devices and does no harm to others.
* mpl3115 has had two errors in the buffer description fixed. The presure is
signed, not unsigned and the temperature has 12 bits rather than 16.
These could lead to incorrect interpretation of the data in userspace.
* tsl2x7x - the high byte of the proximity thresholds should be written along
with the low byte (which was). This could lead to interesting results
with large thresholds.
* twl4030 - a flag to specify processed values were required was not set
when initializing a reading. As such values returned were in an unknown
state. Fixed by simply initializing it appropriately.
* IIO_SIMPLE_DUMMY_BUFFER did not select IIO_BUFFER leading to randconfig
build errors.
* ak8975 was applying an unwanted le16_to_cpu conversion as the i2c framework
already performs one. As such for big endian systems, the bytes would be
in the wrong order in the magnetic field measurements reported.
* mxs-lradc - the controllable voltage dividers were not enabled / disabled for
later channels than the first one during conversion.
* at91_adc error handling returned -ENOMEM in a u8. Return value of
at91_adc_get_trigger_value_by_name changed to int thus allowing -ENOMEM and
also original values to be returned.
* mcb - mcb_request_mem returns and ERR_PTR but the caller was checking for
NULL to detect an error.

Added IIO magnetometer driver for AK09911. In functionality is resembles
AK8975 or AK8963. But there are several differences, so instead of
modifying existing AK8975 driver and keep it clean, implemented as
a separate driver.
The key differences are:
- Register map is different and have different indexes
- AK09911 is a very compact interface with no DRDY pin. So no support
of interrupt or GPIO poll
- Even for polled mode no mention on ST2 register, which is required in
ak8975 driver
- mode values are different for fuse access

Here is the big staging driver pull request for 3.16-rc1.
Lots of stuff here, tons of cleanup patches, a few new drivers, and some
removed as well, but I think we are still adding a few thousand more
lines than we remove, due to the new drivers being bigger than the ones
deleted.
One notible bit of work did stand out, Jes Sorensen has gone on a tear,
fixing up a wireless driver to be "more sane" than it originally was
from the vendor, with over 500 patches merged here. Good stuff, and a
number of users laptops are better off for it.
All of this has been in linux-next for a while.

Some sensor hubs require a get feature report call to be issued soon after
changing the power state of the sensor. Without this, the sensor remains in
the current state. This patch adds a call soon after the power state.
This is retained as a generic call across all sensor hubs since the behavior
has been noticed on more than one implementation.

picked up by Arnd). I've included the general minor fixes here as it is
very late in the current cycle and they can all wait for the merge window.
* Recent change to hid-sensors introduced a possible infinite loop due to a
typo. In the same series, a report interval unit read was added but in the
case where the hardware doesn't support it a value of 0 would lead to some
nasty issues. The patch sets it to the specified default of msecs.
* Anon inodes were used by IIO without being explicitly selected. This has
been true for a long time so it clearly only effects rather unusual
configurations (rand configs)
* at91 requires the input subsytem but this wasn't explicity in the Kconfig.
* A couple of parts supported by the max1363 driver were using the wrong
iio_chan_spec arrays and hence would missreport their bit depths. This has
been there a long time and was never right so isn't a regression.

For PROP_REPORT_INTERVAL, the spec does not mandate the presence
of the report interval unit in the feature report and expects the
default unit of measure to be used as milliseconds.
Currently, when the unit is not present, it gets set as zero leading
to issues in sampling frequency.
This patch sets the unit of measure to the default unit if it
is not defined by firmware.

My static checker is upset that we check IS_ERR(t->reg) when we know it
is not an ERR_PTR.
Checking for IS_ERR() twice is often a sign of confusion and buggy code.
In this case, if the call to "ret = regulator_enable(st->vref);" fails,
then we call "regulator_disable(st->vref);" and that's a mistake because
"st->vref" is not enabled.
I fixed these problems and Hartmut Knaack pointed out a couple unneeded

To specify multiple elements in this type, added a repeat value.
So new format is:

Here r is specifying how may times, real/storage bits are repeating.

This callback is introduced to overcome some limitations of existing
read_raw callback. The functionality of both existing read_raw and
read_raw_multi is similar, both are used to request values from the
device. The current read_raw callback allows only two return values.
The new read_raw_multi allows returning multiple values. Instead of
passing just address of val and val2, it passes length and pointer
to values. Depending on the type and length of passed buffer, iio
client drivers can return multiple values.

Currently the pressure sensor has code to retrieve and enable two
regulators for Vdd and Vdd IO, but actually these voltage inputs
are found on all of these ST sensors, so move the regulator
handling to the core and make sure all the ST sensors call these
functions on probe() and remove() to enable/disable power.
Here also mover over to obtaining the regulator from the *parent*
device of the IIO device, as the IIO device is created on-the-fly
in this very subsystem it very unlikely evert have any regulators
attached to it whatsoever. It is much more likely that the parent
is a platform device, possibly instantiated from a device tree,
which in turn have Vdd and Vdd IO supplied assigned to it.

Adding MPU6500 in target list for this driver.
Description:
Source
Document: MPU-6500 Register Map and Descriptions Revision 2.1
Section 3: Register Map
This section describes difference in terms device programmability
between MPU6050 and MPU6500.
These are different registers, which differs between MPU6050 and
MPU6500.
Addr Name
---------------------
1E LP_ACCEL_ODR
6C PWR_MGMT_2
77 XA_OFFSET_H
78 XA_OFFSET_L
7A YA_OFFSET_H
7B YA_OFFSET_L
7D ZA_OFFSET_H
7E ZA_OFFSET_L
But the current MPU6050 driver doesn't use registers which are different
except PWR_MGMT_2. The difference is support of "LP_WAKE_CTRL" at bit6-7
in MPU6050 mode. In MPU6500 they are not defined.
In current mpu6050 driver, only values used for this register are for
standby mode for gyro and accelerometer.
In both case frequency of wakeups is set to default and not using
bit 6-7.
So this driver van as well support MPU6500. In addition MPU6500 can
run MPU6050 mode by changing device trim settings.
So changing config comments to allow MPU6500 to use this driver.
When the driver is enhanced to support more functions, i2c driver
data INV_MPU6500 or "WHO_AM_I" register can be used to add additional
functionality.

During probe the driver allocates dummy I2C devices (i2c_new_dummy())
but they aren't unregistered during driver remove or probe failure.
Additionally driver does not check the return value of i2c_new_dummy().
In case of error (i2c_new_device(): memory allocation failure or I2C
address cannot be used) this function returns NULL which is later
dereferenced by i2c_smbus_{read,write}_data() functions.
Fix issues by properly checking for i2c_new_dummy() return value and
unregistering I2C devices on driver remove or probe failure.

Ensure that querying the IIO buffer scan_mask returns a value of
0 or 1. Currently querying the scan mask has the value returned
by test_bit(), which returns either true or false. For some
architectures test_bit() may return -1 for true, which will appear
to return an error when returning from iio_scan_mask_query().
Additionally, it's important for the sysfs interface to consistently
return the same thing when querying the scan_mask.

The Xilinx XADC is a ADC that can be found in the series 7 FPGAs from Xilinx.
The XADC has a DRP interface for communication. Currently two different
frontends for the DRP interface exist. One that is only available on the ZYNQ
family as a hardmacro in the SoC portion of the ZYNQ. The other one is available
on all series 7 platforms and is a softmacro with a AXI interface. This driver
supports both interfaces and internally has a small abstraction layer that hides
the specifics of these interfaces from the main driver logic.
The ADC has a couple of internal channels which are used for voltage and
temperature monitoring of the FPGA as well as one primary and up to 16 channels
auxiliary channels for measuring external voltages. The external auxiliary
channels can either be directly connected each to one physical pin on the FPGA
or they can make use of an external multiplexer which is responsible for
multiplexing the external signals onto one pair of physical pins.
The voltage and temperature monitoring channels also have an event capability
which allows to generate a interrupt when their value falls below or raises
above a set threshold.
Buffered sampling mode is supported by the driver, but only for AXI-XADC since
the ZYNQ XADC interface does not have capabilities for supporting buffer mode
(no end-of-conversion interrupt). If buffered mode is supported the driver will
register two triggers. One "xadc-samplerate" trigger which will generate samples
with the configured samplerate. And one "xadc-convst" trigger which will
generate one sample each time the CONVST (conversion start) signal is asserted.

The event code currently holds a spinlock with IRQs disabled while calling
kfifo_to_user(). kfifo_to_user() can generate a page fault though, which means
we have to be able to sleep, which is not possible if the interrupts are
disabled. The good thing is that kfifo handles concurrent read and write access
just fine as long as there is only one reader and one writer, so we do not any
locking to protect against concurrent access from the read and writer thread. It
is possible though that userspace is trying to read from the event FIFO from
multiple concurrent threads, so we need to add locking to protect against this.
This is done using a mutex. The mutex will only protect the kfifo_to_user()
call, it will not protect the waitqueue. This means that multiple threads can be
waiting for new data and once a new event is added to the FIFO all waiting
threads will be woken up. If one of those threads is unable to read any data
(because another thread already read all the data) it will go back to sleep. The
only remaining issue is that now that the clearing of the BUSY flag and the
emptying of the FIFO does no longer happen in one atomic step it is possible
that a event is added to the FIFO after it has been emptied and this sample will
be visible the next time a new event file descriptor is created. To avoid this
rather move the emptying of the FIFO from iio_event_chrdev_release to
iio_event_getfd().

name_format already contains the final name and no format characters. So the
code basically reads:
dev_attr->attr.name = kstrdup(GFP_KERNEL, name_format);
if (dev_attr->attr.name == NULL)
...
kfree(name_format);
Which means we can save one alloc and free pair per attribute name if we
directly assign name_format to dev_attr->attr.name.

final name and has no format characters in it.
