Andy Shevchenko b279c4922e dmaengine: dw: add PCI IDs for Braswell DMAs
Braswell SoC has two DMA controllers for LPSS. This patch adds them to
supported list in the PCI driver.

Andy Shevchenko a15636e83e dmaengine: dw: move clock operations to platform.c
On BayTrail platform DMA is not functional in the PCI mode, whereby it always
failed and exit at the point when it tries to get a clock. It causes the PCI
mode probe to exit with the error message:
dw_dmac_pci: probe of 0000:00:1e.0 failed with error -2

This patch moves clock operations to where it belongs to. Thus, the clock is
provided only in ACPI / non-PCI cases.

Andy Shevchenko 4d130de20c dmaengine: dw: introduce generic filter function
The introduced filter function would be reused in the ACPI and DT cases since
in those cases we have to apply mandatory data to the requested channel. Thus,
patch moves platform driver to use it in that case.

The function unlikely can't be used by users of the driver due to an implicit
dependency to the dw_dmac_core module.

Andy Shevchenko 8950052029 dmaengine: dw: apply both HS interfaces and remove slave_id usage
Instead of one request line member let's use both source and destination ones.
Usually we have no such hardware except Atmel MMC controller found on AVR32
platform (see arch/avr32/mach-at32ap/at32ap700x.c and
drivers/mmc/host/atmel-mci.c).

This patch removes slave_id usage since it'll be removed from the generic
structure in later. This breaks the non-ACPI / non-DT cases for the users of
the driver, i.e. SPI and HSUART. However, these cases mean only PCI enumerated
devices for now, which is anyway broken (considering more than one DMA
controller in the system) and this patch series is intended to fix that
eventually.

The ACPI and DT cases shall be aware of the channel direction when setting
request lines, but this is a minor problem that would be addressed in future.

Linus Torvalds 930e0312bc sound updates for 3.17-rc1
There've been many updates in ASoC side at this time, especially the
framework enhancement for multiple CODECs on a single DAI and more
componentization works. The only major change in ALSA core is the
addition of timestamp type in sw_params field. This should behave in
backward compatible way. Other than that, there are lots of small
changes and new drivers in wide range, including a large code cut in
HD-audio driver for deprecated static quirks. Some highlights are
 below:

 ALSA Core:
 - Add the new timestamp type field to sw_params to choose
   MONOTONIC_RAW type

 HD-audio:
 - Continued conversion to standard printk macros, generic code
   cleanups
 - Removal of obsoleted static quirk codes for Conexant and C-Media
   codecs
 - Fixups for HP Envy TS, Dell XPS 15, HP and Dell mute/mic LED,
   Gigabyte BXBT-2807 mobo
 - Intel Braswell support

 ASoC:
 - Support for multiple CODECs attached to a single DAI, enabling
systems with for example multiple DAC/speaker drivers on a single
link, contributed by Benoit Cousson based on work from Misael Lopez
  Cruz
 - Support for byte controls larger than 256 bytes based on the use of
TLVs contributed by Omair Mohammed Abdullah
 - More componentisation work from Lars-Peter Clausen
 - The remainder of the conversions of CODEC drivers to params_width()
   by Mark Brown
 - Drivers for Cirrus Logic CS4265, Freescale i.MX ASRC blocks, Realtek
   RT286 and RT5670, Rockchip RK3xxx I2S controllers and Texas
   Instruments TAS2552
 - Lots of updates and fixes, especially to the DaVinci, Intel,

Fix the potential risk when enable config NET_DMA and ASYNC_TX. Async_tx is
lack of support in current release process of dma descriptor, all descriptors

potential race condition when dma engine is uesd by others clients (e.g. when
enable NET_DMA to offload TCP).

In our case, a race condition which is raised when use both of talitos and
dmaengine to offload xor is because napi scheduler will sync all pending
requests in dma channels, it affects the process of raid operations due to
ack_tx is not checked in fsl dma. The no-acked descriptor is freed which is
submitted just now, as a dependent tx, this freed descriptor trigger

Another modification in this patch is the change of completed descriptors,
there is a potential risk which caused by exception interrupt, all descriptors
in ld_running list are seemed completed when an interrupt raised, it works fine
under normal condition, but if there is an exception occured, it cannot work as
our excepted. Hardware should not be depend on s/w list, the right way is to
read current descriptor address register to find the last completed descriptor.
If an interrupt is raised by an error, all descriptors in ld_running should not
be seemed finished, or these unfinished descriptors in ld_running will be
released wrongly.

A simple way to reproduce:
Enable dmatest first, then insert some bad descriptors which can trigger
Programming Error interrupts before the good descriptors. Last, the good
descriptors will be freed before they are processsed because of the exception
intrerrupt.

Note: the bad descriptors are only for simulating an exception interrupt. This
case can illustrate the potential risk in current fsl-dma very well.

Hongbo Zhang 2baff5700b dmaengine: Freescale: use spin_lock_bh instead of spin_lock_irqsave
The usage of spin_lock_irqsave() is a stronger locking mechanism than is
required throughout the driver. The minimum locking required should be used
instead. Interrupts will be turned off and context will be saved, it is
unnecessary to use irqsave.

This patch changes all instances of spin_lock_irqsave() to spin_lock_bh(). All
manipulation of protected fields is done using tasklet context or weaker, which
makes spin_lock_bh() the correct choice.

Siva Yerramreddy 95b4ecbf75 dma: MIC X100 DMA Driver
This patch implements DMA Engine API for DMA controller on MIC X100
Coprocessors. DMA h/w is shared between host and card s/w.
Channels 0 to 3 are used by host and 4 to 7 are used by card.
Since the DMA device doesn't show up as PCIe device, a virtual bus called mic
bus is created and virtual devices are added on that bus to follow device model.
Allowed dma transfer directions are host to card, card to host and card to card.

Russell King - ARM Linux d1a792f3b4 Update imx-sdma cyclic handling to report residue
I received a report this morning from one of the Novena developers that
the behaviour of the iMX6 ASoC codec driver (using imx-pcm-dma.c) was
sub-optimal under high system load.

While there are issues relating to system load remaining, upon reviewing
the ASoC imx-pcm-dma.c driver, it was noticed that it not using the
residue support, because SDMA doesn't support it. This has the effect
that SDMA has to make multiple calls into the ASoC and ALSA code, one
for each period.

Since ALSA's snd_pcm_elapsed() does not need to be called multiple times
and it is entirely sufficient to call it once to update ALSA with the
current buffer position via the pointer method, we can do better here.
We can also avoid stopping the DMA entirely, just like real cyclic DMA
implementations behave. While this means that we replay some old samples,
this is a nicer behaviour than having audio stop and restart.

The changes to achieve this are relatively minor - imx-sdma.c can track
where the DMA is to the nearest descriptor boundary - it does this
already when deciding how many callbacks to issue. In doing this,
buf_tail always points at the descriptor which will complete next.

The residue is defined by the bytes remaining to the end of the buffer,
when the buffer is viewed as a single block of memory [start...end].
So, when we start out, there's a full buffer worth of residue, and this
counts down as we approach the end of the buffer, eventually becoming
zero at the end, before returning to the full buffer worth when we
wrap back to the start.

Moving the walking of the descriptors into the interrupt handler means
that we can update the BD_DONE flag at interrupt time, thus avoiding
a delayed tasklet stopping the cyclic DMA.

This means that the residue can be calculated from (total descriptors -
buf_tail) * descriptor size. This is what the change below does. We
update imx-pcm-dma.c to remove the NO_RESIDUE flag since we now provide
the residue.

Daniel Mack 13bbfb5c4e dma: cppi41: handle 0-length packets
When a 0-length packet is received on the bus, desc->pd0 yields 1,
which confuses the driver's users. This information is clearly wrong
and not in accordance to the datasheet, but it's been observed on an

Fix this by looking at bit 19 in PD2 of the completed packet. This bit

set, ignore the value in PD0 and report a total length of 0 instead.

The TI EDMA cleanups is a shared branch with the dmaengine tree, with

After discussion at last year's KS (and some more on the mailing lists),
we are here adding a drivers/soc directory. The purpose of this is
to keep per-vendor shared code that's needed by different drivers but
that doesn't fit into the MFD (nor drivers/platform) model. We expect
to keep merging contents for this hierarchy through arm-soc so we can

Jiada Wang ffe59b2930 dmaengine: imx: correct sdmac->status for cyclic dma tx
In cyclic dma tx's handler sdma_handle_channel_loop(),
SDMA channel statue is set to either DMA_ERROR or DMA_IN_PROGRESS
based on each period's status. This has the following issues:

1) If one period's status is BD_RROR, then channel status
will be set to DMA_ERROR, but it will be overwritten to DMA_IN_PROGRESS
if the following periods are OK.
2) DMA client may call sdma_control(DMA_TERMINATE_ALL) to stop the cyclic dma
operation, sdma channel status will be set to DMA_ERROR,
but if after this handler is called, then again the channel status will be overwritten
to DMA_IN_PROGRESS. Then the following dmaengine_prep_dma_cyclic() will always fail,
   as channel status is DMA_IN_PROGRESS.

As in cyclic dma tx, channel status will be initially set to DMA_IN_PROGRESS,
driver only needs to change it to DMA_ERROR, when something wrong happens
(one period status is wrong, or stoped by client explicitly).

Thomas Gleixner 740b41f788 dmaengine: edma: Provide granular accounting
The first slot in the ParamRAM of EDMA holds the current active
subtransfer. Depending on the direction we read either the source or
the destination address from there. In the internal psets we have the
address of the buffer(s).

In the cyclic case we only use the internal pset[0] which holds the
start address of the circular buffer and calculate the remaining room
to the end of the buffer.

In the SG case we read the current address and compare it to the
internal psets address and length.

- If the current address is outside of this range, the pset has been
processed already and we mark it done, update the residue_stat value
and process the next set. That avoids that we need to walk all
processed psets for every invocation of tx_status.

- If its inside the range we know that we look at the current active
  set and stop the walk.

- In case of intermediate transfers we update the stats in the
interrupt callback function before starting the next batch of
transfers. The tx_status callback and the interrupt callback are
  serialized via vchan.lock.

Jean Delvare 2dda47d1a4 platform: Fix timberdale dependencies
VIDEO_TIMBERDALE selects TIMB_DMA which itself depends on
MFD_TIMBERDALE, so VIDEO_TIMBERDALE should either select or depend on
MFD_TIMBERDALE as well. I chose to make it depend on it because I
think it makes more sense and it is consistent with what other options
are doing.

Adding a "|| HAS_IOMEM" to the TIMB_DMA dependencies silenced the
kconfig warning about unmet direct dependencies but it was wrong:
without MFD_TIMBERDALE, TIMB_DMA is useless as the driver has no
device to bind to.

Sekhar Nori 5fc68a6cad dma: edma: fix incorrect SG list handling
The code to handle any length SG lists calls edma_resume()
even before edma_start() is called. This is incorrect
because edma_resume() enables edma events on the channel
after which CPU (in edma_start) cannot clear posted
events by writing to ECR (per the EDMA user's guide).

Because of this EDMA transfers fail to start if due
to some reason there is a pending EDMA event registered
even before EDMA transfers are started. This can happen if
an EDMA event is a byproduct of device initialization.

Fix this by calling edma_resume() only if it is not the
first batch of MAX_NR_SG elements.

Without this patch, MMC/SD fails to function on DA850 EVM
with DMA. The behaviour is triggered by specific IP and
this can explain why the issue was not reported before
(example with MMC/SD on AM335x).

Tested on DA850 EVM and AM335x EVM-SK using MMC/SD card.

Andy Gross e7c0fe2a5c dmaengine: add Qualcomm BAM dma driver
Add the DMA engine driver for the QCOM Bus Access Manager (BAM) DMA controller
found in the MSM 8x74 platforms.

Each BAM DMA device is associated with a specific on-chip peripheral. Each
channel provides a uni-directional data transfer engine that is capable of
transferring data between the peripheral and system memory (System mode), or
between two peripherals (BAM2BAM).

The initial release of this driver only supports slave transfers between
peripherals and system memory.

Vinod Koul 9068b032d0 dmaengine: pch_dma: use tasklet_kill in teardown
As discussed in [1] the tasklet_disable is not a proper function for teardown.
We need to ensure irq is disabled, followed by ensuring that don't schedule any
more tasklets and then its safe to use tasklet_kill().

Here in pch dma driver we need to use free_irq() before tasklet_kill(). So move
up the free_irq() which will ensure that the irq is disabled and also wait till
all scheduled interrupts are executed by invoking synchronize_irq().

Dan Williams da87ca4d4c ioat: fix tasklet tear down
Since commit 7787380336 "net_dma: mark broken" we no longer pin dma
engines active for the network-receive-offload use case. As a result
the ->free_chan_resources() that occurs after the driver self test no
longer has a NET_DMA induced ->alloc_chan_resources() to back it up. A
late firing irq can lead to ksoftirqd spinning indefinitely due to the
tasklet_disable() performed by ->free_chan_resources().  Only
->alloc_chan_resources() can clear this condition in affected kernels.

This problem has been present since commit 3e037454bc "I/OAT: Add
support for MSI and MSI-X" in 2.6.24, but is now exposed. Given the
NET_DMA use case is deprecated we can revisit moving the driver to use
threaded irqs. For now, just tear down the irq and tasklet properly by:

1/ Disable the irq from triggering the tasklet

2/ Disable the irq from re-arming

3/ Flush inflight interrupts

4/ Flush the timer

5/ Flush inflight tasklets

Linus Walleij e9baa9d9d5 dma: ste_dma40: don't dereference free:d descriptor
It appears that in the DMA40 driver the DMA tasklet will very
often dereference memory for a descriptor just free:d from the
DMA40 slab. Nothing happens because no other part of the driver

nasty to dereference free:d memory, so let's check the flag
before the descriptor is free and store it in a bool variable.

Linus Torvalds f2c73464d7 ARM: SoC cleanups for 3.14
This is the branch where we usually queue up cleanup efforts, moving
drivers out of the architecture directory, header file restructuring,
etc. Sometimes they tangle with new development so it's hard to keep it
 strictly to cleanups.

Some of the things included in this branch are:

 * Atmel SAMA5 conversion to common clock
 * Reset framework conversion for tegra platforms
  - Some of this depends on tegra clock driver reworks that are shared with Mike
    Turquette's clk tree.
 * Tegra DMA refactoring, which are shared branches with the DMA tree.
 * Removal of some header files on exynos to prepare for multiplatform

Lars-Peter Clausen 04abf5daf7 dma: pl330: Differentiate between submitted and issued descriptors
The pl330 dmaengine driver currently does not differentiate between submitted
and issued descriptors. It won't start transferring a newly submitted
descriptor until issue_pending() is called, but only if it is idle. If it is
active and a new descriptor is submitted before it goes idle it will happily
start the newly submitted descriptor once all earlier submitted descriptors have
been completed. This is not a 100% correct with regards to the dmaengine
interface semantics. A descriptor is not supposed to be started until the next
issue_pending() call after the descriptor has been submitted. This patch adds a
second per channel list that keeps track of the submitted descriptors. Once
issue_pending() is called the submitted descriptors are moved to the working
list and only descriptors on the working list are started.

Freescale DMA has a feature of BandWidth Control (ab. BWC), which is currently
256 bytes and should be changed to 1024 bytes for best DMA throughput.
Changing BWC from 256 to 1024 will improve DMA performance much, in cases
whatever one channel is running or multi channels are running simultanously,
large or small buffers are copied. And this change doesn't impact memory
access performance remarkably, lmbench tests show that for some cases the
memory performance are decreased very slightly, while the others are even
better.

...the problem is that the receive path falls back to cpu-copy in
several locations and this trace is just one of the areas. A few
options were considered to fix this:

1/ sync all dma whenever a cpu copy branch is taken

2/ modify the page fault handler to hold off while dma is in-flight

Option 1 adds yet more cpu overhead to an "offload" that struggles to compete
with cpu-copy. Option 2 adds checks for behavior that is already documented as
broken when using get_user_pages(). At a minimum a debug mode is warranted to
catch and flag these violations of the dma-api vs get_user_pages().

Russell King 0be8253fa2 dmaengine: mv_xor: fix oops when channels fail to initialise
When a channel fails to initialise, we error out and clean up any
previously unregistered channels by walking the entire xordev->channels

Fix this by avoiding writing invalid pointers to this array in the first
place.

  Author: Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz <b.zolnierkie@samsung.com>
  Date: Fri Oct 18 19:35:32 2013 +0200

dmaengine: remove DMA unmap from drivers

which had the side-effect of not unmapping the self-test mappings.
Fix this by using dmaengine_unmap_data in the self-test routines.

In addition, since dmaengine_unmap() assumes that all mappings were created
with dma_map_page, this commit changes the single mapping to a page mapping
to avoid an incorrect unmapping of the memcpy self-test.

The allocation could be changed to be alloc_page(), but sticking to kmalloc
results in a less intrusive patch. The size of the test buffer is increased,
since dma_map_page() seem to fail when the source and destination pages are
the same page.

The higher order mempools support raid operations, and we want to

Stephen Warren 996556c92a dma: tegra: register as an OF DMA controller
Call of_dma_controller_register() so that DMA clients can look up the
Tegra DMA controller using standard APIs. This requires the of_xlate()
function to save off the DMA slave ID, and for tegra_dma_slave_config()
not to over-write this information; once DMA client drivers are converted
to dma_request_slave_channel() and DT-based lookups, they won't set this
field of struct dma_slave_config anymore.

Stephen Warren 0ad7c00057 dma: add channel request API that supports deferred probe
dma_request_slave_channel() simply returns NULL whenever DMA channel
lookup fails. Lookup could fail for two distinct reasons:

a) No DMA specification exists for the channel name.
This includes situations where no DMA specifications exist at all, or
   other general lookup problems.

b) A DMA specification does exist, yet the driver for that channel is not
   yet registered.

Case (b) should trigger deferred probe in client drivers. However, since
they have no way to differentiate the two situations, it cannot.

Implement new function dma_request_slave_channel_reason(), which performs
identically to dma_request_slave_channel(), except that it returns an
error-pointer rather than NULL, which allows callers to detect when
deferred probe should occur.

Eventually, all drivers should be converted to this new API, the old API
removed, and the new API renamed to the more desirable name. This patch
doesn't convert the existing API and all drivers in one go, since some
drivers call dma_request_slave_channel() then dma_request_channel() if
that fails. That would require either modifying dma_request_channel() in
the same way, or adding extra error-handling code to all affected
drivers, and there are close to 100 drivers using the other API, rather
than just the 15-20 or so that use dma_request_slave_channel(), which
might be tenable in a single patch.

acpi_dma_request_slave_chan_by_name() doesn't currently implement
deferred probe. It should, but this will be addressed later.

Ezequiel Garcia 82a1402eae dma: mv_xor: Fix mis-usage of mmio 'base' and 'high_base' registers
Despite requesting two memory resources, called 'base' and 'high_base', the
driver uses explicitly only the former. The latter is being used implicitly
by addressing at offset +0x200, which in practice accesses high_base.

In other words, the current driver breaks if the second memory resource
is ever place at an offset different from +0x200.

This patch fixes the above by defining the registers with the offset from
high_base, and use high_base explicitly where appropriate.
